As much as I admire Paul Ryan , his quote deeply disappoints me ,

I told my girlfriend the same thing .
Although I actually prefer ‘The Fountainhead’ (even though she goes a little long in a few parts), ‘Atlas Shrugged’ is excellent. Both are essential reads, IMHO.
I’m hoping for a better offering of the 2nd part of the movie version. The first one wasn’t bad, ….but it didn’t really capture the confliict of the book, or the resolve of the book’s primary characters.

Suggestion:
Based on your posts, I think I’m safe with this. Why not give her a copy of Levin’s ‘Liberty and Tyranny’, or Steyn’s new ‘After Ameriica’.
Neither are novels, so you lose the allegorical aspect of ‘Atlas Shrugged’, BUT: they certainly should flesh out for her a few your ideals and concerns for our future……
Thanks , I’ve read them both , the problem is that she is not very engaged politically . Her sympathies reside with us but she’s never been very involved . I’m working on changing that .
