Government Explained
” An inquisitive alien visits the planet to check on our progress as a species, and gets into a conversation with the first person he meets. The alien discovers that we live under the rule of a thing called “government”, and wants to understand more about what “government” is, what it does, and why it exists.
Produced and voiced by Graham Wright, based on part of the talk by Larken Rose at the Free Your Mind Conference 2011, which can be found here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2bCz9g…

I nominated you for the Very Inspiring Blogger Award!
Why thank you young lady . You are very kind . I am glad to see some young people waking up and taking an active interest in the future of our country .
In these troubled times there is no room for the youth of America to adopt a “it doesn’t concern me” attitude . I’m old ( sort of) but the future is yours and it will be up to you and your peers to jump in with both feet if there is to be anything left of the liberties our Founders risked so much to establish .
Thank you for visiting . Your input is always welcome . God Bless .
I agree. It’s up to my generation to make sure that the country doesn’t go downhill.
I’m afraid that the downhill slide is already in motion and has been for half of my life . You child , and your generation need to make yourselves heard along with whatever geezers like me are left to answer the call , to put a stop to this madness so that your generation and others to come don’t spend their lives in government servitude and learning to speak Chinese .
I couldn’t agree with you more. It really is up to our generation, but it’s hard to get them to see that. My generation is the worst yet; half of my graduating class dropped out before Christmas. If they don’t get motivated and educated and learn to stand up for themselves, we’re going to be in a lot of trouble.
That half probably voted for Obama too Miss . They’ve learned the wrong lesson . NOTHING IS FREE
Yep, I’m sure that they all did. Nope, there’s no such thing as free in the world. You have to work for what you’ve got… unless you sit on your butt and draw a government check every month.
You are right , and the proportion of butt sitters to workers is fast reaching a tipping point . Once that happens we are in BIG trouble .
I agree. The question is just what to do about it?
That is a very good question , actually the ONLY question that matters at this point . I wish I had the answers but as I see it all we can do as lovers of liberty , limited government and our Founders principles is to try and educate our youth to the fact that life as they know it won’t survive long at the present rate . As a wise man said ” that which cannot continue , won’t ” .
We have to combat the MSM and their stranglehold over information and try to lessen the impact of the ” low information voters ” .
The advocates of big government have a lot on their side , popular culture(Hollywood , Network TV etc ) , academia , MSM and while it seems that the forces of liberty are learning to take advantage of New Media ,it often appears that we are always a day late and a dollar short . See our post from last night regarding ” Upworthy” . We need a conservative/libertarian version of that for a start .
We have the majority on our side , they are just not involved .
I’ll definitely check out that post. We just need to do what we can to educate and inform.
Let’s see, “Lying, stealing, crooks”. This link kind of reinforces that comment.

Obama Warns of Sequester Will Cause Job Loses
Good link Brittius , Thanks , but who are all those suck-up oath breakers in the background ? Why would any self-respecting peace officer knowingly share the stage with the biggest threat to our Constitution that has existed since FDR ?
In the background, the hand selected choir of ass-lickers. Never any shortage of those types.
Too many peace officers today are not cut from the same bolt of fabric the Old Timers were. Today it’s political, and they have ambitions of rising to new heights. In the old days, it was a Job. More likely to get lumped up, than locked up.
Let me put it to you in other terms. If a real veteran street cop would be asked or told, to stand behind any politician, the response would be rather colorful and salty, and insubordination charges would be gladly accepted than kiss ass or sell out your tin. That’s my opinion, of course.
I noticed a few fire fighters in that choir, and those cops only have medals for Perfect Attendance or Glee Club; Not things like Combat Crosses, or Citations of Bravery.
Thanks for the clarification . I’ve since learned from my most recent post that those ” ass-lickers” were a photo op of “1st Responders” whose jobs might be on the line should the dreaded sequestration take effect . Boot-lickers All .
That’s what happens when Anti-Americans take the reins. Instead of cutting off the fat or UN-natural growths (which are themselves) they go for the jugular.
They are indeed the FAT that needs to be trimmed , the question is how do we accomplish that .
I have nominated u 4 the Versatile Blogger Award-http://moorbey.wordpress.com/2013/03/07/versatile-blogger-award/
This video both made me laugh and feel pretty stupid at the same time. It’s unfortunately a pretty accurate and depressing view of the state of our government today. It’s too bad more people don’t realize the power we’ve relinquished, but most are too sick of or confused by politics to pay enough attention to the right issues. Thanks for sharing!
Our pleasure and thank you for your comment , but unfortunately I think you give the people too much credit , ie … “most are too sick of or confused by politics to pay enough attention” . Your comment presumes that most people even care , and that is where I disagree .Most people today are too self-absorbed to be bothered with paying any attention to their leaders . As a blogger and reader of blogs you know that the facts on any given subject are just a few keystrokes away and so you endeavor to educate yourself . It is my opinion that the masses are too lazy to be bothered even though the technology is ubiquitous . They ( low information voters) prefer to be spoon-fed their opinions through the MSM , supermarket tabloids and TV . Mores the pity … a wise man once said “You Get the Government You Deserve.” . Unfortunately the rest of us suffer the incompetence of the majority these days in large part because we seem to be ruled primarily in a democratic fashion ( majority rule ) as opposed to the founder’s intended ‘Republic .
Young lady please allow me to quote an article that explains things more succinctly than more word-smithing skills would allow : ” Most well informed people are familiar with the adage, “You Get the Government You Deserve.” The identity of the first person to use that phrase seems to be in some dispute, yet many notable speakers and writers have used the phrase on numerous occasions. Among them are such disparate thinkers as Thomas Jefferson, H.L. Mencken, and Ayn Rand.
At first glance, the expression would seem simplistic and straightforward. Voters elect those who represent us at all (at least nearly all) levels of government, and therefore, “we reap what we sow.” Please note that I did not say WE elect, rather VOTERS elect. I make this distinction since in our great country, only slightly more than 50 percent of eligible voters typically cast a ballot, at least for national elections. But perhaps around 50 percent voter participation is nothing unusual. Maybe our voting percentage is at or above world averages? Regrettably, that is not the case. According to familyeducation.com, the U.S. ranks 35th in voter turnout relative to the world’s other prominent democracies.
From my perspective, a better expression would be “Citizens Get the Government Determined by Those Who Vote.” Drilling down further, who are those U.S. citizens who vote? Do they come from all walks of life? Are they representative of all eligible age and income groups? And, most important, are they well informed?
The last question is, at least in my opinion, the most salient. What drives a voter to make the choices he or she does? Sadly, the evidence seems to show that voters are heavily influenced by superficial stimuli such as TV and radio “spots,” roadside and yard signs, candidate appearances, and the ever-increasing use of emails, many of which contain false or misleading information.
Lamentably, it appears that the average American voter is not at all well informed. The following illustrations that demonstrate the average voter’s lack of knowledge come from Rick Shenkman’s book, “Just How Stupid Are We? Facing the Truth about the American Voter.” While numerous examples exist, here are some of the most egregious: Only 34 percent know that it is the Congress that takes us to war (at least according to the Constitution); only 35 percent know that Congress can override a presidential veto; 49 percent think that the president can suspend the Constitution. In 1991, only 25 percent knew the term length for a U.S. Senator, and only 20 percent knew the total number of senators. ”
The writer hits the nail on the head if you ask me … Very sad . The full article may be found here :You get the government you deserve… http://www.ourcoloradonews.com/trilakes/opinion/you-get-the-government-you-deserve/article_ad80bc34-8f80-568d-a156-61ecd088bd28.html
Good post.
Thanks . Glad you like it . We do too .
