Virginia Pizza Joint Offers 15 Percent Discount If You Pack A Gun
“Jay Luze is the owner of the ‘All Around Pizza Deli’ in Virginia Beach and, not surprisingly, owns a gun himself and is a strong supporter of gun rights.
By his account, some 80 percent of his customers are bringing along a weapon and he intends to extend the offer, made this month, right through March and is considering making it permanent. One customer, he said, got his discount while toting an AK 47.
Luze did not say if he’s had complaints or heard of anyone frightened off by an armed clientele.”
Love it! It’s not uncommon here in Alaska to see patrons open-carry, but it’s also estimated that about 10% of any crowd here is concealed carry. We were in a coffee shoppe one day last summer when some tourist freaked out over a man who was concealed. I knew he was because I know him, but how she could tell, I don’t know. The girl behind the counter, who is just a barista, said “Oh, that’s Mike, he comes in here everyday and he’s always armed.” I thought the tourist was going to have a stroke.
“That’s so dangerous! It could go off at anytime! You have to DO something!”
The barista, who is a friend of my daughter, so I know she’s about 18-19, cracked “When my boss gets back from the shooting range, I’ll be sure to tell him your concern, but Mike comes in here EVERYDAY and he’s ALWAYS armed and the gun has NEVER gone off. So do you still want those coffees?”
The entire line, even a couple of the other tourists, cracked up! The complaining tourist took her coffee outside and life resumed its usual sane Alaskan pace.

Lily, the barista, is one of my favorite young people. She and my daughter have been friends since junior high and she just makes me laugh. Most kids her age would have been so flabbergasted as to what to do in that situation, but Lily could be a standup comedian. She told me later that her boss was actually out picking up a shipment of coffee beans, but that he’d been at the shooting range the day before, so she fudged a bit. I guess he busted a gut laughing when she told him what she’d said. Mike’s a long-time customer who will keep coming back. The tourist business is nice, but unreliable. Lily made a wise choice.
