Canada Shooting: Manhunt As Police Officers Killed In Moncton

” A manhunt is under way in the Canadian city of Moncton after three police officers were shot dead and two hurt.

Police said they were searching for Justin Bourque, 24, who was “armed and dangerous”, and tweeted a picture of a suspect with weapons.”

Canadian Shooter

” Officials have warned people to stay inside and lock their doors.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) told the BBC the officers were shot responding to reports of an armed man wearing camouflage clothing.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper has offered his condolences to those affected. “The sacrifice of these brave officers will be honoured and remembered.” he said.

Witnesses said they heard the first shots in north-west Moncton at about 20:00 local time (23:00 GMT) on Wednesday. More shots were reported about two hours later.”

Possible Sasquatch Outside Squamish BC

This video was only uploaded for the benefit of a couple of friends, we had no intention for it to gather the interest it has. We are not claiming this to be anything other than a strange encounter based on some of the reasons below:

1) We were able to view the subject much better than what the video portrays as it was just a simple point and shoot camera. Contrast was excellent due to the snow behind the subject.

2) The subject was clearly bipedal and was without snowshoes or a backpack and wearing all one coloured clothing. Movement over this kind of terrain in soft snow without snowshoes would have been very difficult and the distance traveled over the given time period would have been very fast for a human without proper snow travel gear.

3) There was a very steep drop off below where the video was shot, easily a 300m sheer face. We were not equipped with climbing gear and a descent around would have been impossible before nightfall.

4) We have encountered bears on the approach to this summit in the past, this video is most definitely not showing a bear or any other wild animal.

5) Perhaps the most reasonable explanation for this video is a very ill prepared hiker, hiking up a difficult section of snowline as opposed to a much easier route, one who is very physically fit and able to cover ground in unusually quick fashion and must have had very large feet as we were breaking through snow crust in just our boots.”

Police Officer’s Son Charged In City’s Worst Mass Murder

” Like many local students, Matthew de Grood got off work Monday night and headed out to celebrate the end of the semester at the University of Calgary.

But shortly after being welcomed into a Brentwood house party, de Grood would be strapped to a stretcher and under arrest, accused of fatally stabbing five others at the gathering — the worst mass killing in Calgary’s history.”

cp-alta-calgary-stabbing

” Everybody is so shocked right now. I saw his picture. At first I thought, ‘Oh, my God, maybe he’s the one who got hurt. Then I read underneath. My heart just dropped,” said a former high school classmate of de Grood’s, who also knew him at U of C.

The victims — Lawrence Hong, Josh Hunter, Kaitlin Perras, Zackariah Rathwell and Jordan Segura — were, by all accounts, celebrating like everyone else when they became the subjects of an unprovoked attack just after 1 a.m. Tuesday.

Police Chief Rick Hanson said the victims were “targeted one by one” during a house party at 11 Butler Cres. N.W.”

Family Surprised To Learn It Was Toronto Cops Who Broke Into House, Removed Computers

Right address but wrong owner for search warrant

” When Nahid Alikhani and her sons came home on March 18, they found the front door jammed, muddy footprints throughout the house, their mail strewn about, doors ajar and all of their electronic devices missing.

Fearing a burglary, they called 9-1-1.

“ The police said, ‘Actually it was us,’” said Alikhani.

That’s when they noticed the search warrant that had been left. It was for their Markham address, but none of their names were listed. Then Alikhani spotted a name she did recognize — the son of the home’s previous owner.

Their story highlights difficulties surrounding police investigations, and obtaining search warrants while protecting personal privacy when the person police are looking for are no longer at the home being searched.

The Toronto police say the family was the victim of a sophisticated crime ring busted this week and that proper procedure was followed in lawfully entering the home.

  The family sees it differently.

“ They took every computer, laptop, tablet, everything,” said Alikhani’s husband, Ramin Rownaghi. His sons’ video game console, the Internet router, medications and credit cards were also missing.

He said it took hours to get police on the phone to explain the situation.”

Watch our neighbors to the north . Gun owners are even under siege from their “allies” on the right .

Originally posted on National Post | Full Comment:

At the just-concluded Liberal national policy convention, a motion called for Australian-style gun control in Canada. This would see a huge number of guns seized from their owners in exchange for monetary compensation, and then destroyed. The motion was defeated, but that didn’t stop some Tory MPs from warning lawful gun owners that the Liberals are out to get them. Why, some mused, they may even resurrect the long-gun registry.

As it so happens, Canada’s lawful gun owners had reason to be worried. But not about the Liberals. It’s the Tories who are seizing legally purchased firearms from law-abiding Canadian gun owners. And they aren’t even offering any cash in return.

As reported by Postmedia News, the guns in question are semi-automatic rifles manufactured by Swiss Arms. These rifles began arriving in Canada early in the last decade. Before they could be imported or sold in Canada, they had…

U.S., Mexico Mull Relaxing Border For ‘Trusted’ Business Travelers

” U.S. and Mexico authorities are on the cusp of striking a deal that would relax border controls for perceived “trusted” business travelers .

The U.K. Guardian reported that leaders for the United States and Mexico — Presidents Obama and Enrique Pena Nieto — will get together with Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper in Toluca on Wednesday to hone talks about freer economic opportunities. The talks come on the 20th anniversary of NAFTA, the North American Free Trade Agreement.

Rare Fish Caught From The Deep

” A rare fish was pulled from the deep in northeastern Canada and attracted a lot of attention. In fact this fish is believed to have only been caught twice. Nigel Hussey, a researcher with the Ocean Tracking Network, identified the mystery fish as a long-nosed chimaera.

‘Potentially, if we fish deeper, maybe between 1,000 and 2,000 metres (3,000 to 6,000 feet), we could find that’s there’s actually quite a lot of them there,’ University of Windsor researcher Nigel Hussey told CBC. ‘We just don’t know.’

The Rhinochimaeridae, commonly known as long-nosed chimaeras, are a family of cartilaginous fish. They are similar in form and habits to other chimaeras, but have an exceptionally long conical or paddle-shaped snout. The snout has numerous sensory nerve endings, and is used to find food such as small fish. The first dorsal fin includes a mildly venomous spine, used in defense.”

WikiLeaks Presents The Secret Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPP)

TPP

” Today, 13 November 2013, WikiLeaks released the secret negotiated draft text for the entire TPP (Trans-Pacific Partnership) Intellectual Property Rights Chapter. The TPP is the largest-ever economic treaty, encompassing nations representing more than 40 per cent of the world’s GDP. The WikiLeaks release of the text comes ahead of the decisive TPP Chief Negotiators summit in Salt Lake City, Utah, on 19-24 November 2013. The chapter published by WikiLeaks is perhaps the most controversial chapter of the TPP due to its wide-ranging effects on medicines, publishers, internet services, civil liberties and biological patents. Significantly, the released text includes the negotiation positions and disagreements between all 12 prospective member states.

The TPP is the forerunner to the equally secret US-EU pact TTIP (Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership), for which President Obama initiated US-EU negotiations in January 2013. Together, the TPP and TTIP will cover more than 60 per cent of global GDP. Both pacts exclude China.

Since the beginning of the TPP negotiations, the process of drafting and negotiating the treaty’s chapters has been shrouded in an unprecedented level of secrecy. Access to drafts of the TPP chapters is shielded from the general public. Members of the US Congress are only able to view selected portions of treaty-related documents in highly restrictive conditions and under strict supervision. It has been previously revealed that only three individuals in each TPP nation have access to the full text of the agreement, while 600 ’trade advisers’ – lobbyists guarding the interests of large US corporations such as Chevron, Halliburton, Monsanto and Walmart – are granted privileged access to crucial sections of the treaty text.

The TPP negotiations are currently at a critical stage. The Obama administration is preparing to fast-track the TPP treaty in a manner that will prevent the US Congress from discussing or amending any parts of the treaty. Numerous TPP heads of state and senior government figures, including President Obama, have declared their intention to sign and ratify the TPP before the end of 2013.”

This has NWO/Statism written all over it . The fact that Obama is trying to skirt the necessary Congressional approval of trade agreements says all we need to know about his administration’s efforts “on our behalf” . It would appear after a very brief , cursory reading that many of the provisions in the latest piece of sovereign renunciation are blatantly unconstitutional , which helps to explain the imperative of secrecy and subterfuge from our “most open , honest and transparent” administration .

This whole treaty , conceived in the smoke-filled back rooms of some old boys network private club , far from the prying eyes of the peons people and their representatives by the Masters of Industry and State is nothing more than a two-fisted power grab enriching the global corporate entity and the transnationalist political figures they bankroll .

” The 95-page, 30,000-word IP Chapter lays out provisions for instituting a far-reaching, transnational legal and enforcement regime, modifying or replacing existing laws in TPP member states. The Chapter’s subsections include agreements relating to patents (who may produce goods or drugs), copyright (who may transmit information), trademarks (who may describe information or goods as authentic) and industrial design.

The longest section of the Chapter – ’Enforcement’ – is devoted to detailing new policing measures, with far-reaching implications for individual rights, civil liberties, publishers, internet service providers and internet privacy, as well as for the creative, intellectual, biological and environmental commons. Particular measures proposed include supranational litigation tribunals to which sovereign national courts are expected to defer, but which have no human rights safeguards. The TPP IP Chapter states that these courts can conduct hearings with secret evidence. The IP Chapter also replicates many of the surveillance and enforcement provisions from the shelved SOPA and ACTA treaties.”

In order for Obama to skirt the Constitutional requirement of senatorial “advise & consent” the proposed TPP and TTIP have to be Executive Agreements and not , strictly speaking , treaties . This ploy allows him to avoid the necessary 2/3 vote of approval from the full Senate . Executive agreements have a long and controversial history in the hands of US presidents .

Having been unfamiliar with the distinction between the agreement and treaty we thought we would educate ourselves a bit and pass along our research for the benefit of readers such as ourselves . Here is how the Oxford Companion To The Supreme Court describes the differences between the two types of agreements :

” Under the Constitution, treaties with other countries require consent of two‐thirds of the Senate. The framers clearly intended joint action of the national executive and the representatives of states in Congress to make binding international obligations.

Executive agreements, unmentioned in the text, are practical alternatives made under presidential authority. They are so ubiquitous in American foreign relations—and sometimes so controversial—that one should distinguish various forms. The vast bulk have some form of legislative approval by statute, treaty, or joint resolution of Congress. For example, the North American and general trade agreements of 1993–1994 were approved by joint resolution. If the subject is within Congress’s broad powers, the Supreme Court accepts the delegation of legislative power and the Senate bypass. “

Franklin Roosevelt , Obama’s presidential idol , was the undisputed master of usurpation through the use of executive agreements , which coming from the man who’s very reign inspired the need for presidential term limits , who attempted to change the very nature of the Supreme Court and who issued orders for nationwide gold confiscation should come as no surprise .

” President Franklin D. “Roosevelt converted executive agreements into primary instruments of foreign relations. He approved the Litvinov Agreement recognizing the Soviet Union in 1933, and the destroyer bases deal of 1940. During World War II, Roosevelt and Truman made secret agreements with allies at Cairo, Yalta, and Potsdam affecting most of the world.”

Some history on executive agreements

” … presidents have had the power to enter into executive agreements with other nations since George Washington’s administration. Treaties are binding on future presidents unless modified with Senate consent; executive agreements are not.

The State Department explains:

As explained in greater detail in 11 FAM 721.2, there are two procedures under domestic law through which the United States becomes a party to an international agreement. First, international agreements (regardless of their title, designation, or form) whose entry into force with respect to the United States takes place only after two thirds of the U.S. Senate has given its advice and consent under Article II, section 2, Clause 2 of the Constitution are “treaties.” Second, international agreements brought into force with respect to the United States on a constitutional basis other than with the advice and consent of the Senate are “international agreements other than treaties” and are often referred to as “executive agreements.”

Let’s look, then, at 11 FAM 721.2 to see on what “constitutional basis” a president might enter into such an agreement.

(3) Agreements Pursuant to the Constitutional Authority of the President

The President may conclude an international agreement on any subject within his constitutional authority so long as the agreement is not inconsistent with legislation enacted by the Congress in the exercise of its constitutional authority. The constitutional sources of authority for the President to conclude international agreements include:

(a) The President’s authority as Chief Executive to represent the nation in foreign affairs;

(b) The President’s authority to receive ambassadors and other public ministers;

(c) The President’s authority as “Commander-in-Chief”; and

(d) The President’s authority to “take care that the laws be faithfully executed.” “

Findlaw offers even more on the executive agreement , it’s limitations and it’s consequences :

INTERNATIONAL AGREEMENTS WITHOUT SENATE APPROVAL

” The capacity of the United States to enter into agreements with other nations is not exhausted in the treaty-making power. The Constitution recognizes a distinction between ”treaties” and ”agreements” or ”compacts” but does not indicate what the difference is. 388 The differences, which once may have been clearer, have been seriously blurred in practice within recent decades. Once a stepchild in the family in which treaties were the preferred offspring, the executive agreement has surpassed in number and perhaps in international influence the treaty formally signed, submitted for ratification to the Senate, and proclaimed upon ratification.

During the first half-century of its independence, the United States was party to sixty treaties but to only twenty-seven published executive agreements. By the beginning of World War II, there had been concluded approximately 800 treaties and 1,200 executive agreements. In the period 1940-1989, the Nation entered into 759 treaties and into 13,016 published executive agreements. Cumulatively, in 1989, the United states was a party to 890 treaties and 5,117 executive agreements. To phrase it comparatively, in the first 50 years of its history, the United States concluded twice as many treaties as executive agreements. In the 50-year period from 1839 to 1889, a few more executive agreements than treaties were entered into. From 1889 to 1939, almost twice as many executive agreements as treaties were concluded. In the period since 1939, executive agreements have comprised more than 90% of the international agreements concluded. 389

In the interests of “equal time” , sort of , you can view TPP “news” , what little there is at the Office of The US Trade Representative’s website . Good luck with that .

In closing , and admittedly not knowing as much as we should about this looming shadow of globalism , we are of the opinion that any agreement or treaty related to business and commerce promulgated by the most economically illiterate leader this country has ever had can only be intended to accomplish one , the other or both of two things … most likely both : 1)  further pad the already bloated bank accounts of his corporate cronies through regulation and protectionism and 2) advance the Statist/NWO agenda that drives his trans-nationalist puppet masters through gaining control of the creative process … meaning control of the lines of communication ( internet freedom) and control of property rights (patents , trade marks , etc).

There is surely nothing in this secretive effort that can be described as advancing the cause of the individual and human rights and that is not acceptable from any US president .

Lunar Eclipse Friday: Where To See It

N/A

” A partial lunar eclipse will be visible Friday into Saturday night for those living from eastern Canada and the upper Northeast to Africa and most of Europe.

At 23:51 UTC, the fullest coverage of the moon by Earth’s shadow will occur, lasting for 239 minutes.

The eclipse will be most visible for the United States and Canada at 7:50 p.m. EDT. Due to the timing of the eclipse, the moonrise will not be high enough for western parts of North America to view; its peak will not reach so far west and will only be visible for Africa and Europe.”

Group Embraced By Obama Hit By Canadian Government For Terror Support

The CRA announced Friday it will strip the Islamic Society of North America Canada’s Development Foundation of its charitable status.

After a nearly two-year-long audit of its books, the CRA said it found evidence linking the group to an organization that funds a terrorist organization in Pakistan.”

Why Canada Spent $597,000 On A ‘Stealth Snowmobile’

(Durham University)

” The Canadian Press reports that the quiet, hybrid-electric snowmobile was commissioned in 2011 as part of Canada’s long-term military buildup in the Arctic, where melting ice is opening access to a part of the world with lots of natural resources and sketchy territorial claims. A prototype was reportedly designed to help conduct “winter operations” on a variety of terrains and to operate more quietly than other models on the market.

Arctic claims, as it turns out, are highly contested and terribly passive-aggressive, even more than 60 years after Canada resettled Inuit families in Resolute Bay to assert its sovereignty there. International treaties have, for the most part, neatly divided up the lands around the Arctic: No one owns the North Pole, but Russia, Canada, the United States, Denmark/Greenland and Norway have extended their borders northward to claim the territories around it.”

Quebec Town Grapples With Loss In Train Wreck Aftermath

” Five days after a train hauling 72 cylinders of crude oil jumped the track and exploded into a wall of fire, provincial police said they had recovered 20 bodies, with another 30 people still missing and presumed dead, confirming the worst fears of a community that had all but given up hope.

“She’s dead,” said Jean-Guy Lapierre of his niece, holding a copy of a Quebec tabloid that had printed pictures of some of the town’s missing young people on its front page. “She was just 28.”

The crash and subsequent explosions rocked the eastern Canadian town of Lac-Megantic shortly after 1 a.m. (0500 GMT) on Saturday, leveling its historic downtown strip.”

Canada Train Wreck Shows Need For Keystone Pipeline

” An oil-laden train not unlike those rolling down American tracks derailed and exploded Saturday in a Canadian town, proving why pipelines are safer and environmentalist opposition to a pipeline from Canada is misguided.

At least 13 people were reported dead and 37 missing in the charred Quebec town of Lac-Megantic, 130 miles east of Montreal, after the accident created an inferno of burning crude. Some may never be found, likely vaporized by the sheer intensity of the blaze that burned for 36 hours.”

Petrochemical Train Explodes In Quebec’s Lac-Megantic

” A driverless train carrying light crude oil has exploded in a Canadian town, forcing the evacuation of 1,000 people.

The blast sent a fireball and black smoke into the air, destroying dozens of buildings in Lac-Megantic, some 155 miles (250 km) east of Montreal.

The train’s 77 fuel cars reportedly uncoupled from its parked engine and derailed early on Saturday; 120 fire fighters are still fighting the blaze.

Some 60 people are missing, but no casualties have yet been confirmed.

Eyewitnesses reported that the town centre was crowded at the time of the blast, and that “chaos” ensued . “

Family Of Girl, 17, Who Killed Herself After Images Of Her Being ‘Gang Raped’ Were Posted Online By Her Attackers Speak Out About Their Grief

'Victim': She was labelled a 'slut' after she was allegedly gang raped by four teenagers in 2010

” The family of a 17-year-old girl who hanged herself after she was allegedly gang raped and bullied for being a ‘slut’ have spoken out about their grief and their determination to fight for justice.

Rehtaeh Parsons was found hanged in the bathroom of her Dartmouth, Nova Scotia home on April 4 – after nearly a year-and-a-half of torment – and her parents switched off her life support days later.

‘When Rehtaeh was born, I promised her the world,’ her mother Leah told People magazine, as she grasped a picture of her oldest child. ‘Now my beautiful girl is gone.’

She was allegedly attacked at the home of two brothers in Cole Harbour on November 12, 2011, when she was just 15.”

You can read more about Rehtaeh’s tragic story here , here and here

Demand An Independent Inquiry Into The Police Investigation

Some months back we posted on a girl in Nova Scotia who was raped , bullied and harassed to the point of taking her own life . The incident in question took place nearly a year and a half ago and still no justice , nor peace for Rehtaeh or her family . You can read our posts here and here and you can sign a petition demanding an investigation into why nothing has been done even while the rape was filmed and witnessed by numerous students .

” I am horrified at what happened to Rehtaeh. She was a beautiful, caring person. She was a amazing artist. She loved animals.

While I haven’t seen her in a few years, I’m friends with her family and I can’t believe how our community and the authorities failed to protect her.

Seventeen months ago, she was raped. The rape was photographed and the photos were shared around her Nova Scotia community. Rehtaeh was destroyed by this. Any 15 year old would be. She was called a slut. She was bullied. She faced depression. And this week she took her own life.

After Rehtaeh’s rape, the RCMP investigated for a year but said there was not enough evidence to lay charges.”

Unfortunately the below update is undated and thus don’t know if this is a new investigation or one that has already come and gone . Regardless , it will do the reader no harm to add the name to the above-linked petition . Please do so , so that there might be some measure of justice for a teen who lost her life to sexist pigs .

**UPDATE** Rehtaeh will finally have justice. Today I received a call from the Premier’s office saying they will be launching an “independent review of the actions of police and the Public Prosecution Service in the Rehtaeh Parson’s case.” They have yet to announce exactly who will review the case. Until the reviewers are announced and we know they are truly independent I will be leaving the petition page open for more people to sign. Holding authorities accountable is how we make sure tragedies like this don’t happen again, so thank you everyone!”

Editor’s Note : A concerned reader brought this story back to our attention and we are more than happy to bring it to yours .

Update : below is a comment we received from “Concerned” that provides links to both Rehtaeh’s mother’s and father’s web pages . Comment is reposted with the express permission of the commenter and we were touched by their concern and hope that you are too .

” Concerned Jul 1, 4:22 pm

Thank you very much for bringing this to attention, again….

As mentioned, I am concerned this has been “dragged on” so to speak, so the family and concerned persons “just get worn out”…People get exhausted.

I have read the Father’s Blog
http://glencanning.com/
and
The Mother’s Facebook
https://www.facebook.com/angelrehtaehofficial

and many news articles. It seems as if the school “investigation” (to my mind) was cursory and head patting.

I have found nothing to indicate any serious (or even any) effort to charge anyone. I know the comment posted on the petition page was posted months ago, and suspect they hoped it would bring results. So far all I can say, is “where did it go””?

in the meantime, across Canada, I have read in the news three cases of young males, one only 14, charged with child pornography, for taking consensual video or pics and posting same. All Good. BUT…— what about Rehtaeh????

I found your blog, discussing this previously, and right now, all I can hope is persons like yourself (bloggers and writers), might stir enough interest to bring results.

I don’t know any of these people, but to my mind it horrifies any thought there is law and justice. It is obscene. It is obscene that it appears justice is trying to exhaust family from this.

I hoped, at least if more signed the petition/sent it on/posted it, it may make authorites realize “folks want to know”.

Austerity Myth

” Europe’s struggles prove that “austerity” fails!

With a condescending sigh, they explain that Europe made deep cuts in government spending, and the result was today’s high unemployment. “With erstwhile middle-class workers reduced to picking through garbage in search of food, austerity has already gone too far,” writes Paul Krugman in The New York Times.

One problem with this conclusion: European governments didn’t cut! If workers pick through garbage, cuts can’t be a reason, since they didn’t happen.

Some European countries tried to reduce deficits by raising taxes. England slapped a 25 percent tax increase on the wealthy, but it didn’t bring in the revenues hoped for. Rich people move their assets elsewhere, or just stop working as much.

Iceland was hit by bank collapses — but government ignored street protests and cut real spending. Iceland’s budget deficit fell from 13 percent of gross domestic product to 3. Iceland’s economy’s is now growing.

Canada slashed spending 20 years ago and now outranks the U.S. on many economic indicators.
