Gun Control Backfires? Rick Perry Lures Connecticut Gunmakers To Texas

” The shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., have brought into high relief one of the anachronisms of the American economy: Some of the biggest and most influential makers of firearms in the United States are located in some of its bluest – and most antigun – states.

That is a fact that Gov. Rick Perry (R) of Texas hopes to turn to his advantage this week.

He is scheduled to visit Colt’s Manufacturing, which has been in Connecticut since 1847, and Mossberg & Sons of North Haven, Conn., the largest maker of shotguns in the US, among other manufacturers and suppliers in Connecticut and New York.”

Good for Governor Perry . Here’s wishing him much success .

The Social Construction Of A Mass Shooting Epidemic

” The killings of 20 first-grade students and six adult staff members at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, on December 14, 2012, obviously constitutes a terrible, newsworthy event. But the news coverage did more than report the details of what happened at Newtown. It also sought to classify this incident as an instance of a larger problem. The initial news reports described what had happened as “the second deadliest school shooting,” “another mass shooting,” and a “mass killing” (all in stories in the next day’s New York Times) and as “the second deadliest shooting event in U.S. history” (The Washington Post). The Post’s website ranked the 12 “Deadliest U.S. shootings” (the earliest case on their list occurred in 1949), while the Mother Jones website added Newtown to its page “A Guide to Mass Shootings in America” (which included only cases from 1982 to 2012).”

The categorization of “mass shootings” , “mass murders” , “workplace violence” or whatever other clever nomenclature that happens to be in vogue are decided upon by the media that reports on the stories and we would do well to remember that the present day media , the so-called mainstream anyway , are anything but dispassionate observers and reporters of fact .

” According to The New Republic, there were 70 mass shootings between 1982 and 2012, leaving 543 people dead. The magazine does not say whether this death toll includes the shooters, who often—but not always—also die. But let us assume that only the shooters’ victims were counted. (Amy Sullivan, the New Republic article’s author, says she believes that is the case.) That works out to about 2.3 incidents and 18 victims’ deaths per year. Last year was an unusually bad year, with 68 people killed in seven mass shootings—a terrible toll, to be sure. But in the context of some 2.5 million deaths from all causes last year, mass shootings, while dramatic, are simply not a major cause of death. And because these events are quite rare, and their number fluctuates from year to year, it is difficult to determine a clear trend. The horrors of 2012 made it easy from some commentators to claim that mass shootings were on the rise, but should there be fewer cases in 2013, it is unlikely that people will note that the problem is growing smaller.”

As with most any news items today , how events are portrayed in the media is really more an issue of what particular ax the reporting organization has to grind than it is a fair illustration of the facts .

Democratic Congressman: ‘Not Fair’ To Subject Congress To Obamacare Just Like Everyone Else

“Rep. John Larson (D., Conn.), is saying that “this is simply not fair” – as key staff members head for the exits to avoid Obamacare.

… many on Capitol Hill fear it could lead to a brain drain” and notes that “[t]he problem is far more acute in the House, where lawmakers and aides are generally younger and less wealthy.”

Mr Larson , we are of the opinion that there is little brain to drain in Congress . Politics is a magnet for the mediocre and you are living proof . The truly smart excel in the real world and have no need of attaching themselves to the public teat .

” What? Obamacare disproportionally hurts those with lower incomes? It may come as a surprise, but it shouldn’t. We’ve known this since before the legislation even passed.

More to the point, why did Rep. Larson vote to impose on the country a health coverage system that “is simply not fair”?

We hope you and your fellow Reps and Senators choke on it . That will be “fair” .

Step Inside The Connecticut Gun Factory That Is Leaving The State In Protest

PTR Industries, gun

” CEO Josh Fiorini and his gun manufacturing company PTR Industries, are right in the center of the national gun control debate.

PTR makes clones of the HK-91 semi-automatic rifle and is located in Bristol, CT. Bristol is about 45 minutes north of Newtown, where 20 children and six of their teachers were shot to death last December.

We visited PTR Industries to get a firsthand look at the company, their operation, and employees living on the front lines of the gun control debate.”

These parts are being assembled by PTR's 42 employees. This is the 1st phase assembly area.

See a photo essay tour of the factory Josh is packing up and taking to a more friendly business environment . Good for him and good for us . Bad for statists in Connecticut.

Police Fatally Shoot ‘Drunk’ 75-Year-Old Korean War Vet On Memorial Day Weekend In Posh Connecticut Mansion

Korean War vet John Valluzzo raised his gun on a police officer prior to getting fatally shot

” The founder and president of a Connecticut military museum was shot and killed at his home by police after he pointed a handgun at officers, Connecticut state police said Sunday.

State police identified the man killed Friday in Ridgefield as 75-year-old John Valluzzo.”

Let me get this straight , the girlfriend was free to call her friend in Florida yet didn’t call police .

” Connecticut’s News Times reports that Valluzzo’s girlfriend called a friend in Florida about 5:15 p.m. Friday and said Valluzzo was intoxicated and waving a gun around. The friend called police, who raced to the home to find Valluzzo still armed.”

She never says to her friend that she was being threatened , nor attempted to call the police herself , just that he ” was intoxicated and waving a gun around ” . Why did she stay in the home ? If the man was intoxicated and armed why didn’t she leave him to his own devices ?

Seems to us that if the girlfriend felt endangered she should have left , period . Perhaps then Mr Valluzzo would still be alive . This would seem to be a truly senseless tragedy .

Most Expensive Home Hits The Market At $190 Million

” There’s Versace’s former home, priced at $100 million, Steven Cohen’s $115 million apartment and a Manhattan penthouse listed at $125 million. But none of them hold a candle to Copper Beech Farm and its 50 acres of waterfront in Greenwich, CT, which recently hit the market at $190 million, becoming the most expensive listing in the U.S. (Click here or on the photo to go to a slideshow.)”

” While the house is impressive — public records measure it at 13,519 square feet with 12 bedrooms and 9 baths — it’s the spectacular land that pushes the price tag up to nearly $200 million. The home sits on 4,000 feet of coveted waterfront property on Long Island Sound, which doesn’t includes the additional access to two private islands in the Sound. The two parcels, one at 30 acres and one at 20, contain a grass tennis court, formal gardens, carriage house, apple orchard, two greenhouses and a 75-foot-long heated pool. Considering that a 75-acre Greenwich property nowhere near the water is listed at $32.5 million, the $190 million ask is a little more understandable.”

” Thinking about financing a place like this? According to Zillow’s mortgage calculator and assuming a 20 percent down payment (which would be $38 million) on a 30-year fixed-rate mortgage, a monthly payment would be $687,734.”

Meteorite Crashes Through Roof Of Connecticut Home

” An expert confirmed today that an object that sailed through the roof of a Connecticut home was a meteorite. The crash occurred on Friday night.

On Friday night Larry Beck, of Wolcott, Conn., heard a crash in his attic. The next morning as he was checking things out, he found a significant amount of damage, according to NBC Connecticut.
“There is no doubt that this is a legitimate meteorite,” said Stefan Nicolescu, the collections manager for the mineralogy division at the Yale Peabody Museum of Natural History, reports the Hartford Courant. “It doesn’t look like any terrestrial rock.” “

Defy the King! Electrifying Speech At Pro-Gun Rally In CT

” In a rousing speech which is sure to inspire pro-gun rights advocates across the nation — and enrage those who choose to limit the Second Amendment — Mike Vanderboegh took to the Connecticut State Capital yesterday. Speaking at the Connecticut Citizens Defense League’s Second Amendment rally, Vanderboegh — one of the men who broke the Fast & Furious debacle, declared “civil war is starring us in the face.”

USA TODAY Poll: Public Support For Gun Control Ebbs

” Four months after the shooting rampage at Sandy Hook Elementary School, a USA TODAY Poll finds support for a new gun-control law ebbing as prospects for passage on Capitol Hill seem to fade.

Americans are more narrowly divided on the issue than in recent months, and backing for a bill has slipped below 50%, the poll finds. By 49%-45%, those surveyed favor Congress passing a new gun-control law. In an NBC/Wall Street Journal poll in early April, 55% had backed a stricter gun law, which was down from 61% in February.”

Tugging at the heartstrings and attempting to “never let a crisis go to waste” failed this time around .

“So much of the support for gun control is emotional, following the Newtown tragedy,” says Stuart Rothenberg, editor and publisher of the non-partisanRothenberg Political Report. The December shooting at the Connecticut school left 20 children and six adults dead. “The longer you get away from there, people start thinking of other issues. They start thinking about terrorism or jobs or immigration, and not surprisingly, then some of the momentum behind gun control starts to fade.”

The Boston Marathon bombings last Monday also may have had an effect, he speculates. “It wouldn’t be shocking if people sitting in their homes in Massachusetts cities and towns thought to themselves, ‘Boy, I wish I had something to protect myself with if a terrorist came through the door now.’”

Odd isn’t it ,  that nowhere in this article do we find mention of the astronomical ” 90% support” for new gun laws  claim so recently trumpeted from on high by our lord and savior Barack and his minions in the MSM ? More pie in the sky BS , more lies …

SENATOR TRIES TO SHUT DOWN NRA-SPONSORED NASCAR RACE

” Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT) has a great new idea for gun control grandstanding: call on Rupert Murdoch to cancel a NASCAR race sponsored by the NRA this weekend.  Murphy claims the National Rifle Association sponsorship would be “inappropriate in the immediate wake of the Newtown massacre.”

The “immediate wake” of Newtown?  The shooting occurred in December.  When does the “immediate wake” end?  2014?  2018?  Never?

The race is to be held at the Texas Motor Speedway, which as the reader might surmise, is not located in Connecticut.  Murphy doesn’t seem interested in rational discourse, as CNN relates his letter to Murdoch:

“The race not only brings national attention to an organization that has been the face of one side of this heated debate, it also features the live shooting of guns at the end of the race,” Murphy wrote to Rupert Murdoch, the chairman and chief executive of News Corporation, which owns the Fox network where the race will be broadcast.

“I would like to make a similar challenge to you,” Murphy told the media mogul in his letter Thursday. “You should play a constructive role in our national dialogue by refraining from broadcasting the NRA 500. By airing this race you will be strengthening the brand of a radical organization that is currently standing in the way of meaningful progress on this issue.”

So much for all the balloon juice about how much Democrats “respect your Second Amendment rights” and want to be best pals with “responsible gun owners” and “responsible hunters.”  That’s what the NRA is.  For months, Democrats have called for a “national conversation on guns,” but it turns out people who join that conversation on the “wrong” side can’t even sponsor a NASCAR race.

Murphy is making a totalitarian effort to read the NRA completely out of society.  Conveniently enough, once you’ve been designated an unspeakable monster, it is no longer necessary to salute your “rights” or take your dissent seriously.

If you don’t like the word “totalitarian,” well, stop running around and being totalitarian, gun control nuts.  Asserting that no one can dissent from your agenda in good faith, and must obey your commands without complaint, is a totalitarian impulse.  So is using human props to make “arguments” that no one is allowed to refute, without being accused of monstrous insensitivity.”

Connecticut Gun-Maker To Leave State Over New Laws

” A Connecticut gun-maker announced on Wednesday it intends to leave the state, just six days after passage of restrictive gun control legislation, while two other manufacturers said they are considering relocation offers from other states.

Manufacturers also plan to lobby the state’s congressional delegation next week “to make sure they hear from our side,” said Mark Malkowski, president of Stag Arms in New Britain.

Jonathan Scalise, owner of Ammunition Storage Components, also of New Britain, said he’s received offers from Arizona, Arkansas, Kansas, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota and Texas. He said he will carefully evaluate the impact of a move on his business and its 150 employees.

Bristol-based PTR said in a statement posted on its website that it has not decided where it will move, but has commitments from most employees to relocate. The company makes military-style rifles and employs more than 40 people. PTR Vice President John McNamara said the company expects to make a more formal announcement about a move within six weeks.”

School: Americans Don’t Have Right To Bear Arms

” The father of a Connecticut child is furious after discovering that his son’s school is teaching students that Americans don’t have a Second Amendment right to bear arms.

“I am appalled,” said Steven Boibeaux, of Bristol. “It sounds to me like they are trying to indoctrinate our kids.”

Boibeaux’s son is an eighth grader at Northeast Middle School. On Monday his social studies teacher gave students a worksheet titled, ‘The Second Amendment Today.’

“The courts have consistently determined that the Second Amendment does not ensure each individual the right to bear arms,” the worksheet states. “The courts have never found a law regulating the private ownership of weapons unconstitutional.

The worksheet, published by Instructional Fair, goes on to say that the Second Amendment is not incorporated against the states.

“This means that the rights of this amendment are not extended to the individual citizens of the states,” the worksheet reads. “So a person has no right to complain about a Second Amendment violation by state laws.” “

Firearms Company Relocating To North Texas

”  A firearms company that makes AR-15 style rifles for the iconic brand Colt, will open a plant in Breckenridge in Stephens County. Oregon company Bold Ideas confirmed the development Friday.

Bold Ideas goes by the name Colt Competition, making high accuracy rifles for competition shooting.

The move by Colt Competition into Breckenridge comes as the CEO of Colt Manufacturing in Connecticut has said there will soon be few good answers to keep his company in the state. Connecticut passed some of the nation’s most restrictive gun laws this week.”

The ATF Revokes Firearm License From The Gun Shop That Sold Adam Lanza’s Mother The Bushmaster “Assault Weapon” But Won’t Say Why

” Shortly after the killings the federal government raided Riverview Gun Sales and now the ATF has revoked the firearm permit from the gun shop. The question is why, but the ATF is silent. Here is what the owner of the gun shop had to say:

There is nothing more devastating than the loss of a child,” LaGuercia said in a statement in December. “We are absolutely appalled that the product that we sold several years ago would be used in this type of horrendous crime. Our hearts go out to the victims and the families

From all accounts Riverview Gun Sales legally sold this weapon to a law abiding citizen so it sees as though an explanation is due because this seems highly unusual.”

Conn. Gov. Daniel Malloy: Public Safety Trumps Loss Of Gun Manufacturers

” Connecticut Gov. Daniel P. Malloy, who on Thursday signed some of the nation’s most sweeping new gun-control laws, brushed aside concerns on Sunday that the Second Amendment crackdown could drive several longtime arms manufacturers from his state.

“We’ve decided that public safety trumps all of that,” Mr. Malloy, a 57-year-old Democrat, told CNN. “I hope they stay and manufacture products that can legally be sold. But if they leave, that will be a decision they make. We’re not making them leave.” “

As an aside it appears that the state of New York has bribed Remington to stay in it’s long – time home in the upstate town of Ilion so we doubt they will demonstrate the intestinal fortitude to take their jobs where they are welcome and tell Andy Cuomo to pound sand .

Connecticut’s New Gun Law Is Selling an Awful Lot of Guns

This was a big concern for gun owners, and thousands of them rushed to gun stores to stock up on guns and ammunition that could soon be illegal.”

BREAKING: Connecticut Gun Ban Bills Revealed

” 2.     The bill requires “universal background checks” for the sale of all firearms immediately, upon passage.

Under current law, private sales of rifles and shotguns are completely unregulated (while the sale of any pistol or revolver or the sale of a rifle or shotgun by a licensed dealer requires a criminal background check). Under the bill, this glaring loophole is immediately closed, and all private long gun sales must be preceded by the buyer passing a national criminal background check.

Immediately upon passage, no pistol, revolver, rifle or shotgun can be sold to any Connecticut resident until the buyer undergoes and passes a national criminal background check — whether such sale is private, at a gun show, or through a dealer.”

Colt May Leave Connecticut Due to New State Gun Laws

” … President and CEO Dennis Veilleux said the pro-gun control climate that has taken hold in the wake of the Sandy Hook school massacre and other firearm attacks has left him feeling unwelcome in the state his company has called home for 175 years. Proposed laws being debated by the Legislature and pushed by Gov. Dannel Malloy include a new gun offender registry, an expanded assault weapons ban, ammunition restrictions and a ban on bulk purchases of handguns. Veilleux said those measures have put Colt and its nearly 700 employees in the cross hairs. “

CONNECTICUT MAN TOOK THREE DAYS OFF WORK TO DELIVER THIS EPIC TESTIMONY AGAINST GUN CONTROL

” How do Connecticut residents feel about the crackdown on the Second Amendment? Well, there are people from both sides making passionate arguments on the issue, however, one gentleman last week was able to make a particularly persuasive case against more gun control and in favor of the U.S. Constitution.

Meet Robert Steed, a resident of Vernon, Conn. who took three days straight off work to attend several gun control hearings in Connecticut. On March 14, Steed was more “aggravated” than usual with lawmakers and he let them know it in his fiery testimony, telling them that they were “coloring outside the lines of constitutional parameters.”

” The reason that your jobs are becoming so difficult is because you’re coloring outside the lines of constitutional parameters,” Steed shot back. “That’s the bottom line. You are trying to marriage up public safety with constitutional rights. The Constitution did not guarantee public safety, it guaranteed liberty. And sometimes what comes with liberty is tragedy, unfortunately.” “

Gun Rights Groups Converge On The Connecticut State Capitol

Gun Rights Advocates Voice Concerns in Hartford

” Prominent gun rights groups and their supporters are convening at the Connecticut State Capitol Monday to protest new proposed gun-control measures and to remind lawmakers of the long history and economic importance of the state’s storied firearm industry.

The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) is joining with the National Rifle Association, the Coalition of Connecticut Sportsmen, and the  Connecticut Citizens Defense League to hold a “Lobby Day” Monday at the second floor atrium of the Connecticut state capitol’s Legislative Office Building in Hartford.

The 10 a.m. event, replete with a complimentary shuttle service and transportation volunteers in orange hats, aims to protect the Connecticut gun industry from legislative efforts that could cause thousands of layoffs in the state.

Last week, Democrats on a gun control task force in the state legislature proposed banning modern sporting rifles by July 1 and confiscating magazines over 10 rounds by October 1. Further legislative committee hearings are scheduled this week to discuss the proposals.

An assault-weapons ban would cause approximately 1,700 job losses in Connecticut alone, according to the NSSF.

Approximately 2,900 Connecticut residents work for gun makers, while another 4,400 work for companies that would also be affected by the ban, according to the NSSF.”
