Mapping How Emotions Manifest In The Body

” The mapping exercise produced what you might expect: an angry hot-head, a happy person lighting up all the way through their fingers and toes, a depressed figurine that was literally blue (meaning they felt little sensation in their limbs). Almost all of the emotions generated changes in the head area, suggesting smiling, frowning, or skin temperature changes, while feelings like joy and anger saw upticks in the limbs—perhaps because you’re ready to hug, or punch, your interlocutor. Meanwhile, “sensations in the digestive system and around the throat region were mainly found in disgust,” the authors wrote. It’s worth noting that the bodily sensations weren’t blood flow, heat, or anything else that could be measured objectively—they were based solely on physical twinges subjects said they experienced .”

Obama Is The Ultimate Ad Hominem President

” At a fundraising event earlier this week in New York City, President Obama said this:

What’s blocking us right now is a sort of hyper-partisanship in Washington that I was, frankly, hoping to overcome in 2008. My thinking was when we beat them in 2012 that might break the fever, and it’s not quite broken yet.

As a consequence we get the kind of gridlock that makes people cynical about government. My intentions over the next 3 ½ years are to govern. … If there are folks who are more interested in winning elections than they are thinking about the next generation then I want to make sure there are consequences to that.

In this instance, the most hyper-partisan president in modern times is ascribing that trait to Congressional Republicans. What we’ve learned about Mr. Obama over the years is that he that while he is unusually inept at governing, he’s quite good at campaigning. He certainly enjoys it, having taken the concept of the Permanent Campaign beyond anything we’ve ever seen. It turns out it’s the only thing he does well—no human being in history has raised campaign cash quite like he has—and it’s all he seems interested in doing.

On some deep, subconscious level, though, Mr. Obama seems ashamed of the path he’s chosen. And so the president projects those traits he loathes in himself on to others. To give you a sense of how deep the malady runs, the president does more than merely project; he actually preaches against the very character flaws he himself cannot overcome.

I understand Mr. Obama has complained many times that there are checks on his power, but I prefer the wisdom of James Madison to the ambitions of Barack Obama.

President Obama Appeals to Newtown Tragedy to Push for Stricter Gun Laws

” President Obama gave his weekly address and revisited the Newtown tragedy in an appeal to Congress to pass universal background checks, restrictions on private gun sales, and the assault weapons ban.

Adam Lanza planned his grisly murders for years, and if it weren’t a ‘military-style’ rifle, it would have been something else, like fire or explosives. Are we going to ban fire too? Because in 2009 there were over 58,000 arsons, costing an average of $17,411 each in damage. According to the U.S. Fire Administration, there are an average of 375 deaths each year from arson, which is also more than those killed by all rifles.”

Budget Politics

image

” Back in my teaching days, many years ago, one of the things I liked to ask the class to consider was this: Imagine a government agency with only two tasks: (1) building statues of Benedict Arnold and (2) providing life-saving medications to children. If this agency’s budget were cut, what would it do?

The answer, of course, is that it would cut back on the medications for children. Why? Because that would be what was most likely to get the budget cuts restored. If they cut back on building statues of Benedict Arnold, people might ask why they were building statues of Benedict Arnold in the first place. The example was deliberately extreme as an illustration. But, in the real world, the same general pattern can be seen in local, state and national government responses to budget cuts.”

Biden Says, “Critically Important to Act” on Guns–Opens Door to Executive Action

Of course any thinking person can decode Idiot Joe’s words . By ” critically important ” he is referring to the leftist belief in never letting a “crisis go to waste* . In other words , ” here’s our opportunity to shove something entirely unsalable down the people’s throats while emotions run high ” .

It’s all politics all the time and is in no way to be construed as having the remotest to do with actual public safety . They think that as long as they strike while the iron is hot that they can ram through yet another high profile policy plank of the democratic party that they know is not only publicly unpalatable but also blatantly unconstitutional .

Recall that the above young lady’s death was at the hands of a man that the democrats referred to as ” the Lion of the Senate”

What , you say ? They wouldn’t do that ? Think Teddy “the swimmer” Kennedy and Obamacare … They’ll do anything to win . Think ” nuclear option” , think recess appointments with congress still in session , think about their present talk of changing the filibuster rules . Need more ?  , How about rule changes in NJ when Robert Torricelli dropped out of his senate race and similar shenanigans in Massachusetts for Teddy’s seat .

” The Obama administration is seeking to institute a far more sweeping gun-control agenda than simply reinstating the failed  Clinton bans on “assault weapons” and “high-capacity” magazines.

While the administration seeks to ban whole classes of firearms, a working group led by longtime gun control supporter Vice-President Joe Biden is also seriously considering proposals for a national registration database to track the movement and sale of all firearms, and much more. (Please see related story on congressional proposals below.)

After meeting with gun ban activists on Wednesday, Biden said, “This is a problem that requires immediate attention.  I want to make clear that we’re not going to get caught up in the notion that, unless we can do everything, we’re going to do nothing.  It’s critically important that we act.”

Biden went on to open the door to the option of imposing restrictions unilaterally.
“The president is going to act,” said Biden.  “There are executive orders, executive action that can be taken.  We haven’t decided what that is yet.  But we’re compiling it all with the help [of] the attorney general and all the rest of the Cabinet members as well as legislative action we believe is required.”

When it comes to attacking our Second Amendment rights, this administration will pull out all the stops. “

As a final thought for our readers we must consider the fact of who exactly is in charge of these proceedings and speaks of the need for “critical action” , yes we refer to none other than Joe ” plagiarist” Biden .  Who is dumber or more incompetent than crazyUncle Joe ” ?

* -“You don’t ever want a crisis to go to waste; it’s an opportunity to do important things that you would otherwise avoid.”

American Elites’ Obsession with Gun Control

“Dan Baum on the reaction to the Batman massacre:

Among the many ways America differs from other countries when it comes to guns is that when a mass shooting happens in the United States, it’s a gun story. How an obviously sick man could buy a gun; how terrible it is that guns are abundant; how we must ban particular types of guns that are especially dangerous. The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence responded to the news with a gun-control petition. Andrew Rosenthal of the New York Times has weighed in with an online columnsaying that “Politicians are far too cowardly to address gun violence…which keeps us from taking practical measures to avoid senseless shootings.”

The party of “science” strikes again .

Is it too much to asked to be governed by reason instead of emotion ?

“New research funded by the National Science Foundation has scientists warning consumers about the potentially harmful effects energy-saving CFL light bulbs can have on skin.

The warning comes based on a study conducted by Stony Brook University and New York State
Stem Cell Science — published in the June issue of Photochemistry and Photobiology — which looked at whether and how the invisible
UV rays CFL bulbs emit affect the skin.

Based on the research, scientists concluded that CFL light bulbs can be harmful to healthy skin cells.”
