Journalists At Sochi Are Live-Tweeting Their Hilarious And Gross Hotel Experiences

SochiReporters Tweet

” Amid continued debate over whether or not Sochi is prepared to host the 2014 Olympics (here are 15 alarming signs that Russia might not be ready) reporters from around the world are starting to check into local hotels — to their apparent grief. Some journalists arriving in Sochi are describing appalling conditions in the housing there, where only six of nine media hotels are ready for guests. Hotels are still under construction. Water, if it’s running, isn’t drinkable. One German photographer told the AP over the weekend that his hotel still had stray dogs and construction workers wandering in and out of rooms.”

Here’s a lovely tweet , come on in the water is fine … yuck

The Incompetence Of Our Neo-Monarchy

” It is a condition of my admission to this great land that I am not allowed to foment the overthrow of the United States government. Oh, I signed it airily enough, but you’d be surprised, as the years go by, how often the urge to foment starts to rise in one’s gullet. Fortunately, at least as far as constitutional government goes, the president of the United States is doing a grand job of overthrowing it all by himself.

On Thursday, he passed a new law at a press conference. George III never did that. But, having ordered America’s insurance companies to comply with Obamacare, the president announced that he is now ordering them not to comply with Obamacare. The legislative branch (as it’s still quaintly known) passed a law purporting to grandfather your existing health plan. The regulatory bureaucracy then interpreted the law so as to un-grandfather your health plan. So His Most Excellent Majesty has commanded that your health plan be de-un-grandfathered. That seems likely to work. The insurance industry had three years to prepare for the introduction of Obamacare. Now the King has given them six weeks to de-introduce Obamacare.”

Worse And Worse: New Documents Detail First Week Of HealthCare.Gov

” The Obama administration really has to reconsider its strategy of trying to hide how bad the Obamacare website has been. The debacle just drags out as details leak out slowly, as with the remarkable reports that Darrell Issa received from the website contractors and released today.

Among the damning revelations:

  • On the first day of the website roll-out, 90% of Medicaid applicants were mistakenly rejected.
  • On the second day, 40,000 people are estimated to have been stuck in the HealthCare.gov waiting room – only 100 had enrolled.
  • By the third day. it was confirmed that insurers were not getting the data for people who had signed up for healthcare.

But wait, there’s more! ” Lots more …

The reality is so much worse than the rumors .

Democratic Party Consultant: “Dem Party Is F****d” Because Of Obamacare

” The panic inside the Democratic Party over Obamacare is really beginning to set in as the Obama Administration continues to deal with the fallout of an embarrassing rollout of the glitchy federal health insurance exchange website, Healthcare.gov, and seemingly endless reports of Americans losing their health insurance coverage or being hit with more expensive plans.

Ron Fournier of the National Journal relayed the concerns and indignation of one Democratic Party consultant who put it very simply — they are “f****d”: “

Industry Source Tells NRO: WH May Have To Consider “Unthinkable Options” If Website Meltdown Continues Into November

” Today’s must-read comes from Yuval Levin, who spoke to five managers at the HHS department that’s running Healthcare.gov and three health-insurance industry managers. Their reactions to two weeks of total chaos on the site: “Restrained panic” from the former and more or less pants-wetting panic from the latter. I don’t think this qualifies as the news story we’re all waiting for because Levin has no sources up the chain in the decision-making parts of the executive branch, but if people in the industry are whispering about “unthinkable options” now, rest assured that people in the White House are too.

I can’t excerpt all the parts that are noteworthy, although if you’ve been following news about the Healthcare.gov apocalypse you already know some of what Levin reports — the login fiasco is a result of HHS demanding that people create an account before seeing what plans cost, the system still can’t calculate subsidies correctly (which means some people are getting the wrong price when they buy coverage), the “back end” communications between the federal data hub and private insurers are a shambles, and the chaos will only increase if HHS solves the login problems without solving the back end problems. (Imagine insurers having to sift through 5,000 garbled enrollments per day instead of 50.) What about the timeline, though? Per Levin’s sources, D-Day will come sometime in mid-November.

If the problems now plaguing the system are not resolved by mid-November and the flow of enrollments at that point looks like it does now, the prospects for the first year of the exchanges will be in very grave jeopardy. Some large advertising and outreach campaigns are also geared to that crucial six-week period around Thanksgiving and Christmas, so if the sites are not functional, all of that might not happen—or else might be wasted. If that’s what the late fall looks like, the administration might need to consider what one of the people I spoke with described as“unthinkable options” regarding the first year of the exchanges…

Sick people with preexisting conditions whose coverage will be very expensive for insurers will spend all day on the site trying to sign up. Young, healthy people, whose money insurers desperately need to help pay for that very expensive coverage for sick people, might try once or twice and then give up. Result: A giant bill for insurance companies with no way to pay it except by jacking up premiums on everyone who currently has insurance, and even that might not be enough. That’s the death spiral, and that’s why “unthinkable” options are suddenly, but inevitably, on the table.”

… Experts Say Website Built On Ten-Year-Old Technology Will Need To Be Constantly Fixed And Then Totally Overhauled

” After weeks of a dysfunctioning website and mass derision, the Obamacare exchange woes are only starting as some are now giving insurers the wrong date on patients. And the trouble isn’t over.

One technology expert claims the faulty sites, which cost nearly $400 million to build, were made on ten-year-old technology that will require constant fixes and eventually the entire system will have to be overhauled.

A technology expert said the flaws could do lasting damage to the law if customers are deterred from signing up or mistakenly believe they have obtained coverage.

John Engates, chief technology officer at Rackspace, told USA Today that recent changes have made the system easier to use, but they still require clearing the computer’s cache several times, stopping a pop-up blocker, talking to people via Web chat who suggest waiting until the server is not busy, opening links in new windows and clicking on every available possibility on a page in the hopes of not receiving an error message. “

SEN. GRAHAM THREATENS TO BLOCK OBAMA’S CIA PICK FOR BENGHAZI ANSWERS

” In a statement released Tuesday, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) telegraphed that he would delay the confirmation of President Barack Obama’s CIA nominee John Brennan if the White House fails to answer questions about the Benghazi attacks.

“I do not believe we should confirm anyone as Director of the CIA until our questions are answered,” he declared.

Mr. Graham said that any effort on his part to delay the confirmation process was not directed at Mr. Brennan but rather was meant to get to the bottom of intelligence failures involved in the Benghazi fiasco. “

How Obama’s Policies Led To Benghazigate

” It took some 22 hours for American help to arrive in Benghazi after all the t’s had been crossed and the i’s had been dotted, and the body of America’s ambassador to Libya had been dragged through the streets by “rescuers” stopping along the way to pose for cell phone pictures with his corpse.

By way of comparison it takes about 16 hours for a boatload of Libyan illegal immigrants to row to the Italian island of Lampedusa. Support for the Americans under fire in Libya would have arrived sooner if a few former members of the Harvard Rowing Team had gotten in one of the many rowboats beached on the shores of Lampedusa and pushed the oars all the way to Benghazi.

Obama Inc. blamed the second set of September 11 attacks on a movie, which was giving Al Qaeda credit for not only orchestrating worldwide attacks on American embassies and consulates, but doing it in a matter of days based on nothing more than a YouTube trailer. That would make Al Qaeda one of the more impressive organizations around, but the administration found it easier to give Al Qaeda credit that the terrorist group didn’t deserve rather than accept the blame that it did deserve.

When madmen in America shoot up schools or movie theaters, Obama blames the weapons they used and calls for gun control. When madmen in the Middle East shoot up American consulates and embassies, he blames movies and calls for film control. “

Benghazi: Osama’s Revenge on Obama

“Talk about chickens coming home to roost. Talk about the Mother of All Fiascos. It’s the
revenge of Osama bin Laden from the bottom of the ocean, and the message is plain: al-Qaeda is very much alive, and America is a paper tiger.

The Middle East is beginning to fall apart — Iran just sent a spy drone over Israel’s sensitive defense installations, and the IDF
waited hours to react; Turkey forced down a Syrian arms plane, and al-Qaeda’s Al Zawahiri openly assaulted the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi in a six-hour attack,
working through al-Qaeda in the Maghreb (AQIM), while the glorious Libyan friends did nothing as our ambassador was being raped and murdered. The guards called for
help, and nobody responded. A police car fled the scene. The other ten cop cars requested by the consulate never showed up. “

“Take the RQ-170 Sentinel spy drone that went down in Iran in December 2011. The U.S. chose
neither to attempt to retrieve it nor to bomb the wreckage. Why? Who knows? But it seems that,as in the case of the administration’s silence
when Iranians hit the streets in protest during the spring of 2009, Obama was worried about provoking an Iranian response.   Although Iran brags that it will reverse-engineer the drone, it is
not likely to actually do so.
However, it will very probably sell off key components to the Chinese
and the Russians, who will duplicate it or at least find far more effective ways to neutralize its use. “
