” The Guardian in 2009 predicted five years of rapid warming:

The world faces record-breaking temperatures as the sun’s activity increases, leading the planet to heat up significantly faster than scientists had predicted for the next five years, according to a study.

The hottest year on record was 1998, and the relatively cool years since have led to some global warming sceptics claiming that temperatures have levelled off or started to decline. But new research firmly rejects that argument.

The research, to be published in Geophysical Research Letters, was carried out by Judith Lean, of the US Naval Research Laboratory, and David Rind, of Nasa’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies.

Fail. Five more years of no warming followed.

Professsor Ross McKitrick says in a new paper that the warming pause has now lasted an astonishing 19 years at the surface and 16-26 years in the lower troposphere: “

” Conceived as a bestseller, Casino Royale effortlessly transcended such unworthy aims. Today, its
protagonist is up there with Count Dracula and Batman and a handful of other iconic A-listers. Fleming did not anticipate what to me is always the dreariest convention of
the celluloid Bond blockbuster – the final 20 minutes in which 007 and the girl run around a hollowed-out mountain or space station or some other supervillain lair shooting extras in tinfoil catsuits while control panels explode all around them and Bond looks frantically for the button that
deactivates the nuclear laser targeting London, Washington, Moscow and/or Winnipeg – but, that oversight aside, it’s remarkable how much of the 007 architecture he had in place so quickly. In
Casino Royale, the roulette table shows up on page one, M on page three, Moneypenny on page 13, the Double-Os on 14, the CIA’s Felix Leiter on 31, the first dry martini, shaken not stirred, on page 32. “

Fictional Dreams of My Father

Professor Jacobson

“There is very little chance I’ll end up reading David Maraniss’ biography of Obama, although by all accounts it is a very detailed work which punctures much of Obama’s self-portryal (you remember the “composite” girlfriend revealed in a pre-release excerpt).

Ben Smith has read the book, and finds:

David Maraniss’s new biography of Barack Obama is the first sustained challenge to Obama’s control over his own story, a firm and occasionally brutal debunking of Obama’s bestselling 1995 memoir, Dreams from My Father.”

The “war” rages on . I’ve lost count but this must be about skirmish number 6 or 7 . Don’t the have any other arrows in their quiver ?

“Democrats say their research shows women are paid just 77 cents for every dollar earned by men and that a law is needed to equalize those rates.
But party lawmakers are not hiding the political motives behind the timing and scope of the bill, which follows a series of other female-focused measures rejected by the Republicans that the Democrats say
demonstrate that the GOP is waging a “war on women.” “
