Fifty four year-old Mary Walker from McAllen, Texas has been a member of the NRA for ten years. She owns 1 gun, a 9mm Glock and works as a teacher.
” Photographer Justin Sullivan attended the National Rifle Association Convention in Houston, Texas and took this set of portraits of NRA members. Each photograph has beneath it a short caption saying where they are from, what they do and how many guns they own. “
” In the face of a national ammo shortage, Armscor USA and Armscor International have doubled their manufacturing capabilities and committed $4 million in new equipment and facilities to support shooting enthusiasts and gun owners.
“At Armscor, we recognize the inconvenience and frustration of gun owners have in finding ammunition and we are doing everything we can to push more product out the door and on to store shelves,” said Martin Tuason, CEO of Armscor International. “We are at something of an advantage in that our growth in US sales had us already looking at long term expansion so we are really accelerating our timelines.” “
“ Jetpacking was awesome fun! Despite the fat lip I had a great time. I think knowing a bit about physics actually helps fly the jetpack. It works on the same principle as a rocket (Newton’s 3rd law) but unlike the shuttle, you don’t carry your own propellant with you. Instead, water is pumped out of the lake by the jetski at up to 60 litres a second. It is then fired out of the nozzles at around 15 m/s creating 1800 N of force, the equivalent of about 150 fire extinguishers. On me this can produce acceleration of about 1.5g’s “
With the onset of Spring thoughts turn to the outdoors and as the weather improves what could be more pleasurable than getting out on the water for some fishing ? Here are some tips on routine maintenance for your fishing reels so that you don’t spend your time making repairs instead of boating fish .
” CNN ran an article on the front page of its website today in which the topic of parents asking about guns prior to playdates and sleepovers.
The article said more parents are asking the question about gun ownership and storage before letting children go to a friend’s home.
What is surprising is that CNN actually admitted the following in the article.
Despite incidents such as the recent death of a 6-year-old New Jersey boy shot in the head by a 4-year-old playmate, as well as the accidental shooting of a Tennessee sheriff’s deputy’s wife by a 4-year-old boy, accidental firearms deaths are rare among children.
According to the CDC’s National Center for Injury Prevention and Control, 703 children under the age of 15 died in accidental firearms deaths between 2001 and 2010, the latest year for which the agency’s statistics on fatalities are available. During the same period, 7,766 children under the age of 14 suffered accidental firearms injuries — about one injury for every million children.
Injuries (note, that is injuries, not deaths) occur at a rate of around 1 in 1,000,000.”
” What does it take to win a fishing tournament? Perhaps a better question is, what doesn’t it take? The dirty little secret about tournament fishing is that winning requires a lot of everything. While intense preparation usually figures as a major component of any successful team, that doesn’t preclude plain dumb luck as accounting for a winner’s check. Similarly, playing it safe on the water is often the key to success — but then again, the risk-taker is sometimes the one who prevails in the end. And that’s the beauty of tournament fishing: You never know what lies in wait.
Here are a few thoughts from some recent winners of big events and their accounts of just how they did it.”

” When a car looks as good as these, chances are you also want the garage to look the part. Most of these cars are worth more then a large-sized home for an average person. Take a look at how these high end cars get stored.
If the cars are worth this much, it makes one wonder, how much one of these garages costs to engineer and build?”
” As a 14 year-old, and a freshly-minted Eagle Scout, I had a terrible crush on my 11 year-old cousin Mary, and she on me.
So intense was my desire just to reach out and touch her that it kept me awake at night. That is the way 14 year-old boys are. As it happens, a variety of restraints, some internal, many external, kept me from doing so, but I can still remember the frustrated passion of it all.
I suspect that 14 year-old boys who are attracted to other boys feel that passion just as intensely. If the leadership of the Boy Scouts of America has its way, though, these boys will be able to indulge their passions in ways I could not even have dreamed of. They will get to shower with their 11 year-old crushes, skinny-dip with them, maybe even share a two-man pup tent. Even though I was more self-disciplined at 14 than most, these are temptations I could never have resisted.
Those parents who would willingly expose their 11 year-old sons to these scenarios are flirting with criminality.”
” The main problem that I can think of for licensing gun owners is that it converts a right that you can exercise at will into a privilege for which you need government permission. That raises important practical objections and, potentially, constitutional hurdles.
The practical objections should be clear in such a politically loaded issue: Informing millions of gun owners that they now need permission from government officials they’ve already clearly indicated they distrust to purchase and own firearms — something they consider a natural right — is begging for opposition and non-compliance on a massive scale. Fisher says he foresees little opposition because many gun owners have submitted to licensing and permitting requirements for concealed carry and hunting. But … hunting is a recreational activity involving a use of a firearm that’s already owned. Concealed carry also involves a use of an already owned gun — and permitting requirements for concealed carry are sufficiently controversial that several states, including my own Arizona, haverepealed them or made them voluntary (some people still want them for the purposes of reciprocity with other states). “
” Let’s begin with the 500 line of pump guns. Mossberg now has options in 20 gauge 500s. There are several different versions of their defense minded 500, and some that are more sporty. They’ve even carried it over to the Maverick line.
But it is the 20 gauge defensive guns that I respect the most. While I’m built to handle anything the 12 gauge can shoot, I have seen other shooters get so nervous about recoil that they aren’t effective as shooters. Some folks need a smaller shotgun. That’s all there is to it.
And an eight shot 20 gauge Mossberg 500 is going to provide that option for many of these people. These guns are noticeably smaller, lighter, and they’ll be much easier to use. “
” When the boat-show season ramps up each fall, we begin sensing trends within the industry. As we gather details for our annual preview, those vague feelings solidify. For instance, this year, we included a category new to these listings — dual-console boats. Manufacturers have seen the need to blend multiple family uses into a fishing vessel; the DC fits that bill.
You’ll also see a few reintroductions of boats that were announced in 2012 but never brought to market. A few more are heavily updated models whose builders chose not to rename the lines. This year, we present 34 new boats — from an 18-foot skiff to a 47-foot express.”
” I was poking around on Youtube, and quite by accident I stumbled across this very cool series of video profiles created by the International game Fish Association. Each one is a short biography of an angler who has been inducted into the IGFA Hall of Fame, and there are plenty of fly fishermen (and -women) in the mix. Here are a few that I grabbed from the long list. You can check out the whole series on the IGFA’s YouTube channel. “
” In the face of possible legislation to restrict and possibly ban firearms and magazines over a certain capacity, waves of panic buyers have stripped shelves to the paint, at both retail and online gun stores.
A combination of demand and gouging has caused prices for rifle magazines and rifles, parts and accessories to more than double, with some vendors selling goods at five times what the average rate was just a few weeks ago.
Many online companies are selling magazines faster than their systems can handle, accepting orders for stock they don’t have and running out of stock mid-transaction.
Brownells spokesman Jason Corpus had this to say.”
” Of the numerous, and varied, duties of American Rifleman’s editors, few are as difficult as reviewing the past year’s new product releases and selecting the firearms, ammunition and accessories that are most deserving of the sought after American Rifleman Golden Bullseye Award.
“The Golden Bullseye Award has become a much-coveted symbol of excellence, innovation and quality in firearms, accessories and related equipment,” said Joe H. Graham, Executive Director of NRA Publications. “This year’s winning slate offers consumers the very best the shooting and hunting industry has to offer. We congratulate the winners and look forward to recognizing them at the NRA Annual Meetings in Houston.” “

” Here is Juliet done up in a Pinky Street Style. I was originally just going to do Juliet, but I thought she needed to have someone to kill. I found this great Disco Zombie, and I thought it worked with the Pinky Street Style. “

” I have really been into making custom Nerf guns lately, so I decided to try to make one for good ol’ Mario. Here is what I imagine it would look like. The ammo of choice is a Bullet Bill, and of course there is a working flashlight for all those dark pipes he has to explore. “
Well, that’s the proposition being floated by Hanebrink with its new Hustler X5 electric street bike which, among other near electric motorcycle touches, is said to have a top speed of around 80 miles per hour. It also looks nothing like anything else in this company’s portfolio, with its typical offerings appearing more to be like this. “
” As long as there have been guns, there have been women shooters. And they’ve made do with the guns and gear designed for men. And why not? It works. And I’m the first to acknowledge that some women shooters have no desire, whatsoever, to carry a concealed handgun in a pink holster, or wear jewelry made from bullet casings. But some do, and the list that follows is for them.
All of these ideas com from GunGoddess.com, a retail site that might make the shopping easier. This list is a bit random, and designed more to show the variety of what is available. “
” Do you remember your first tackle box? I remember mine. It was a battered, old, Army-green metal box passed down from my father. It had a single metal latch on the lid, a thin, bent-wire handle and three rickety, fold-out trays. It wasn’t pretty — but it served me well, toting what few lures I owned safely back and forth to the water.
Things have a way of changing over time, though. Today, metal boxes are a thing of the past. And while the hard-shell, molded-plastic tackle box that took its place is still used by many anglers, fishermen are turning more often to soft-sided tackle-storage systems.
There are many compelling reasons why “
If your blood is pumping and you’re ready to try your hand at 3-Gun, getting started is easy. “Just show up! That is the best way to get involved with 3-Gun. You don’t need the latest gear or modified guns.
According to Pete Brown, “The easiest way to get started is with borrowed gear or what you already have in your gun safe. If you have pistol, rifle and shotgun—great! If not, bring what you have. At any rate, when you are on the range there will be so many different people willing to let try a piece a gear or give you a tip—the helpful nature of the community is incredible. Then—after you have a shot a match or two—you’ll have a much better idea of what you need (or want) and you will be able to make an informed decision from there.”
Cheaper Than Dirt’s Clint Upchurch is abusing the steel targets at a recent 3-Gun Nation event.
“There are several great sources these days to find a place to shoot or match. Of course you can go to3GunNation.com and click “The Sport of 3-Gun,” then click the “Get Started” link. Once there, you’ll have access to a wealth of information including contact information for clubs in every state, “ said Brown. “
