Gun Bill Passes Legislature , Goes To Governor

” The Alabama House of Representatives Monday morning passed the much-debated Omnibus Gun Bill, which proponents say will give Alabama the strongest Second Amendment protections in the country. It now goes to the Governor for his signature.

The final bill was the product of a compromise between the National Rifle Association, The Alabama Sheriffs’ Association and the Alabama District Attorneys’ Association.

“With President Obama dead set on limiting our right to bear arms, it was imperative for us to push legislation that would defend this important constitutional right for Alabamians,” Hubbard said.

The NRA said the bill, if signed by the Governor, “will restore and protect the rights of responsible gun owners and sportsmen in Alabama by reforming the state gun laws in the following ways:”

Texas Votes 100-47 To Nullify Unconstitutional Federal Gun Control Laws

” The state of Texas continues to fight back hard against federal  intrusions, especially in the area of gun control as President Obama and some  Washington lawmakers push for new laws infringing upon the Second Amendment’s  right of Americans to keep and bear arms.

Gun rights advocates in the state have  applauded the measure, saying it would serve as a bulwark against future  erosions of the Second Amendment within Texas. What’s more, many are pointing to  recent comments by Fox News legal analyst and contributor Judge Andrew  Napolitano that such widespread noncompliance with new federal gun  control statutes would make them “nearly impossible to enforce.”

NRA SURGES TO RECORD 5 MILLION MEMBERS

” At the National Rifle Association’s convention in Houston, TX, NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre announced that the NRA has now grown to an unprecedented 5 million active members. He concluded his speech with the theme of all the NRA officers, vowing, “From liberty’s defense, we will never back down. We will never surrender. We will always stand. We will always fight.”

Well over 70,000 members of the NRA are assembled in Houston, Texas for its 142ndAnnual Meeting—projected to break the all-time record for the nation’s oldest and largest Constitutional rights organization. The convention houses over 300,000 square feet of exhibits (mostly firearms and accessories), seminars on various topics including women’s and children’s safety, and formal speeches from national political leaders and the NRA’s leadership. The central focus on the annual convention—as always—is protecting the Constitution’s Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms.

With 5 million members in its ranks and growing, that promise from the NRA’s leadership is likely to continue to be felt. Look for the NRA to engage its increased political strength in the 2014 midterm elections.”

Defy the King! Electrifying Speech At Pro-Gun Rally In CT

” In a rousing speech which is sure to inspire pro-gun rights advocates across the nation — and enrage those who choose to limit the Second Amendment — Mike Vanderboegh took to the Connecticut State Capital yesterday. Speaking at the Connecticut Citizens Defense League’s Second Amendment rally, Vanderboegh — one of the men who broke the Fast & Furious debacle, declared “civil war is starring us in the face.”

Alabama Senate Passes Pro-Gun Omnibus Firearms Bill

” There has been a lot made in the news and other media about gun control measures being passed at the state level. Less has been made of the pushback against the disarmament wave in some other states, like Alabama, to strengthen and shore up gun rights. Yesterday the Alabama Senate passed SB 286, an Omnibus Firearms bill that strengthens gun rights in the Yellowhammer State. However, it will still need to make it through House before ending up on the Governors desk . . .

Alabama already recognizes very strong gun rights, but they are scattered throughout the Constitution, various statutes, case law, Attorney General opinions, and so forth. This omnibus bill consolidates certain statutory provisions and expands on them. The bill states its purpose as follows:

“The purpose of this section is to establish within the Legislature complete control over regulation and policy pertaining to firearms, ammunition, and firearm accessories in order to ensure that such regulation and policy is applied uniformly throughout this state to each person subject to the state’s jurisdiction and to ensure protection of the right to keep and bear arms recognized by the Constitutions of the State of Alabama and the United States. This section is to be liberally construed to accomplish its purpose.”

That should help clear up any ambiguities. Let’s take a look. “

Missouri House Passes Much Anticipated ‘Sweeping Pro-Gun Proposals’

” The bill, which passed with a 115-41 vote, does several key things to protect resident’s gun rights. First, it bans the enforcement of federal gun control regulations within the state’s lines. Second, the bill allows for certain school officials to be armed, provided they have a valid permit and register with the Department of Public Safety. It also allows for the open carry of small firearms, less than 16 inches long. Additionally, the bill drops the legal age requirement to apply for a concealed carry permit from 21 to 19, while still requiring a background check and completion of a firearms safety course. The bill prohibits health professionals from being required to ask people about firearm ownership or documenting that information in medical records. Lastly, the bill makes it illegal to publish any personal information about gun owners or those applying for a concealed carry permit.

Currently there are a total of 24 pieces of gun legislation in the Missouri House, most of which focus on loosening gun restrictions rather than making them tighter. One piece that’s sponsored by a St. Louis republican would make it a felony for lawmakers to propose gun control bills.”

Arizona Lawmakers Want Cities To Sell Guns From Buyback Programs

” Arizona lawmakers, stepping into the contentious national gun control debate, approved a controversial measure on Tuesday mandating that cities and counties resell firearms turned in during gun buyback programs rather than melt them down.

The Republican-controlled Arizona state Senate voted 18-12 to no longer allowed firearms to be destroyed by local municipalities, saying it was a waste of taxpayer money. The state House approved the bill in March.

The measure must now be signed or vetoed by Republican Governor Jan Brewer, a staunch gun rights advocate. A spokesman for the governor declined comment on the fate of the legislation late on Tuesday.”

Good for Arizona taxpayers . In this time of chronic budget deficits it is insane for municipalities to spend hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars for guns that are going to be destroyed .

US SUPREME COURT MULLS NEW YORK GUN RIGHTS CASE

” Beyond a raging political battle over limiting gun access is a case that could be heard this year by the US Supreme Court over a New York law limiting the right to carry the weapons in public.

The nine US high court justices met behind closed doors Friday to consider which cases they will take in their next term, including an appeal launched by five New Yorkers against a state law they say violates their “right to bear arms,” enshrined in the US Constitution.

Backed by the powerful National Rifle Association gun lobby, the five plaintiffs in the case said that their requests for permits to carry concealed firearms had been rejected by state officials.

The plaintiffs oppose the law, which says that to be given a permit to carry a firearm outside the home, a gun owner must clearly demonstrate that it is explicitly needed for self-defense.

“State law treats the carrying of handguns for self-defense not as a right, but as an administrative privilege lying beyond the reach of most people,” the plaintiffs said in their petition.

“Asserting that bearing arms is too dangerous to allow as a matter of course, New York forbids responsible, law-abiding adults from carrying handguns for self-defense unless they first demonstrate a ‘proper cause’ to do so.” “

Poll: Law Enforcement Officers Overwhelmingly Support Gun Rights and Oppose New Gun Control

” According to a survey released by PoliceOne.com of over 15,000 retired and active duty officers it is clear that the law enforcement community in the US strongly supports the gun rights of private citizens.

Based on the findings it does not look like most officers support any new gun legislation currently being proposed, saying that it would do little to promote officer safety or reduce crime rates.

This is in direct contrast to many anti gun politicians statements that a majority of police officers support their gun control initiatives in the interest of improving “officer safety”.

Here are the key findings from the survey:

  • 99 percent said policies other than an “assault weapons” ban are most important to prevent mass shootings.
  • Almost 96 percent said that a ban on standard capacity magazines would not reduce violent crime.”

The State of Colorado Part I: Denver Day of Resistance (VIDEO)

Mike Holler Denver Day of Resistance

” Protesters from across the state of Colorado scaled the steps up to the capitol building in Denver, rallying against the proposed gun control measures legislators will be voting on later this year. It was called the Denver Day of Resistance.

At least 400 people made it to the rally (protest organizers told us 500), and passers-by showed their support by honking regularly as they drove past the crowd.

There was no counter-protest, there was no conflict with the police, just a few hundred people cheering, singing, praying and showing their support for gun rights. It was one “hallelujah” short of preaching to the choir, although there were plenty of “amens.” “

From John Hawkins

” Yesterday, there were about 75,000-100,000 people (That’s the estimate I’m being given. It’s hard to be more exact than that because we haven’t heard from all the organizers yet, not every rally had a news story, and there were apparently a number of last minute rallies added that we didn’t have listed) who went to roughly 150 Day of Resistance rallies across 39 states. Rand Paul cut a video (see below) for the event at the last minute and there were tens of thousands of dollars worth of guns and ammunition that were given or raffled away. Additionally, to the best of our knowledge unlike the Occupy Movement, there were no arrests, rapes, murders, or attacks on the police. It was just law-abiding Americans who love their country and 2nd Amendment rights, peacefully gathering to exercise their Constitutional rights.”

” Thousands across the nation gathered today to mark Day of Resistance, an event sparked by President Obama’s signing in December of 23 executive actions on “gun violence reduction.” The president and his staff hand-picked four children to join him on stage to plead their case, but as more and more legislators at the state and national levels push for extensive restrictions on gun ownership, plenty of Americans would like to have their say as well, even if they have to brave the elements to do it.”

By Staying Neutral In The Battle Over Gun Control Is Starbucks Pro-Gun By Default? (VIDEO)

” On Friday, it was “Gun Owners Support Starbucks Day” all across Virginia, according to gun rights activist Ed Levine, the founder of Virginia Open Carry.

Unlike some of its competitors, Peet’s Coffee for example, that have posted “No Guns Allowed” signs in states that permit law-abiding citizens to carry concealed firearms for self-defense outside the home, Starbucks has made the conscious decision to remain apolitical, to simply follow local laws.

To Starbucks credit, gun control advocates have not made it easy for them to remain neutral.  On several occasions, organizations like The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence have made Starbucks the target of a national boycott.

In fact, as reported by the CS Monitor, efforts to boycott Starbucks are still ongoing, the latest is being led by the National Gun Victims Action Council, a Chicago-based pro-gun control organization.”

Gun-Grabber Has Meltdown, Flees Public Affairs Forum In Anger

” With all of the emotion that proposals to infringe on the right to keep and bear arms can generate, what started as a calculated insult against a gun rights proponent speaking at a forum in Oregon turned into an open display of anger and self-humiliation by a former Democrat statehouse candidate.

Lee Coleman fled the hall sputtering insults as he was being questioned by a laughing cameraman.

The event was a Washington County Public Affairs Forum held on Monday. The guest speaker was Kevin Starrett, executive director of Oregon Firearms Federation, and the tensions were created when Coleman, a forum member took to the microphone and turned things personal.”

Time For Law Abiding Gun Owners To Stand And Fight For Their 2A Rights

” It’s no secret that the recent mass shootings are being used and manipulated to slowly erode, gnaw at and diminish the 2nd Amendment.

The Diane Feinstein’s and Mike Bloomberg’s of this country essentially want to neuter the 2nd Amendment so it’s essentially just a privilege in name only, not a Right as guaranteed by our Bill of Rights. President Barack Hussein Obama has initiated 23 Executive Orders, which potentially could put 2A rights on a very slippery slope and blur the lines of HIPPA laws and personal health information (PHI) as it relates to gun ownership.

Now more than ever, each and every law abiding gun owner needs to stand up and be heard. That action can take many shapes and forms. Recently there have been a host of states where Guns Across America rallies have been organized and citizens have exercised their 1st Amendment right to support their 2nd amendment right! Bravo!!

Sheriff Lee Baca and the Gun-Gift Connection

” The L.A. County Sheriff’s Department is known in gun-rights circles for being stingy with concealed-weapons permits. Sheriff Lee Baca has total discretion over who is allowed to get a permit, and he hasn’t given out many.

As of May 2012, only 341 people had been granted them, according to sheriff’s records. Compare that with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, which had 1,754 permit holders in 2011, despite a population of just 2 million people to L.A.’s 10 million. The Kern County Sheriff granted even more, with 3,564 permit holders in a population of 800,000 people.

In L.A. County, records show, most of the permits go to judges and reserve deputies. But there is another group that seems to have better luck than most in obtaining permits: friends of Lee Baca. Those who’ve given the sheriff gifts or donated to his campaign are disproportionately represented on the roster of permit holders.

Michel had not looked in depth at L.A. County’s practices, but the Weekly did. Last year, the Weekly filed a public records request for all 341 active concealed-weapons permits granted by the Sheriff’s Department — as well as a list of the 123 people who applied for concealed weapons over an 18-month period but were denied. (You can see the complete list of permit holders we obtained from the Sheriff’s Department here.)

Those lists contain many of the same names that appear on Baca’s gift reports and contribution records.

In fact, more than two dozen people who have given gifts or campaign contributions to the sheriff also have gun permits. More than one out of every 10 permits issued to civilians went to people on Baca’s gift list. The permit holders include Michael R. Yamaki, an attorney and reserve deputy who is among Baca’s best friends, as well as several people who attended Baca’s 1999 wedding.”

ABC, CBS, NBC Slant 8 To 1 For Obama’s Gun Control Crusade

” At next week’s State of the Union Address, President Barack Obama is likely to continue his ongoing push for more gun control. It’s a push first  spurred on by Obama’s gun control allies in the liberal media. In the wake of the horrific school shooting in Newtown, Connecticut on December 14, the Big Three (ABC, CBS, NBC) networks quickly moved to exploit the tragedy to push for more gun control legislation while mostly ignoring solutions that respect gun owners’ Second Amendment rights.

CBS was the most stridently anti-gun rights network. By a whopping 22 to 1 ratio, CBS aired more stories that favored gun control (44) to those that supported gun rights (2), with 37 neutral pieces. ABC aired almost six times as many stories that favored gun control (29) to those that favored gun rights, with 25 neutral stories. NBC pushed for more gun control in 26 of their stories to just 5 that tilted in favor of gun rights for a 5 to 1 ratio, with 43 neutral segments.”

Breitbart – One Voice Silenced, Millions Awakened

” The Resistance Begins: New York Gun Owners Refuse to Register.

“Largest Act of Civil Disobedience in State History”

With emotions running high in the aftermath of the Newtown Sandy Hook shooting, politicians on the State and Federal level have begun introducing legislative actions to curtail access to firearms protected by the Second Amendment.

In Missouri, parents may soon be forced to register firearms with their child’s school under threat of criminal penalties.

In Massachusetts, another proposal would require storage of semi-automatic rifles at government approved storage depots.

And, in the State of New York, congressional representatives have already passed legislation that requires registration of every semi-automatic rifle and reduces maximum magazine capacity to 7 rounds of ammunition, and Governor Cuomo has floated the idea of gun confiscation.

Now, in what is sure to be a growing trend across the entire country, New York gun owners are organizing a resistance against what many believe to be the most, “brazen infringement on the right to keep and bear arms anywhere in the nation,” according toThe New American:

Preparations are already being made for mass resistance.”

New York Gun Owners Flip the Bird to “Assault Weapons” Registration Law

” New York Governor Cuomo the Junior may have rushed throughhis new gun control law with such speed thatpolice will avoid its restrictions only through the blessed miracle ofselective enforcement, but he may have a little trouble getting the state’s firearms owners to attend his party. The new law requires owners of those scary-looking rifles known as “assault weapons” to register their property (amidst assurances that, oh no, the registration lists will never be used for confiscation), but gun rights activists are actively urging gun owners to defy the new mandate.

According to Frederic Dicker at the New York Post:

Assault-rifle owners statewide are organizing a mass boycott of Gov. Cuomo’s new law mandating they register their weapons, daring officials to “come and take it away,” The Post has learned. “

Lawlessness or Armed Citizens

” Are you beginning to get the picture? Anti-gun laws are not and never have been designed to disarm a citizenry for the purpose of public safety. They are a precursor to far more nefarious laws and actions by government agents all of which have been and will be designed to drive individuals into fear and then submission. “

” If you really want to know what you are dealing with when you talk to friends, family members or neighbors who are of the anti-gun persuasion I highly recommend you read and take to heart the wisdom that Rabbi Bendory imparts in his article.

We are dealing with individuals within the executive, legislative, and judicial branches at both the state and federal level who have conspired – along with their money power brokers – to deliberately subdue any group or groups to which they feared loosing their power; hated because of their moral persuasions; or stood as a force against illegal proclamations which included murder and overt acts of theft. This egregious assault on any human’s natural right to self defense is always draped in the palatable lie of “public safety”.

The convoluted thinking of those in power is brought home in the opinion expressed by Florida Justice Rivers H. Buford in the early part of the 20th century who wrote explaining a Florida gun control statute:

“I know something of the history of this legislation. The original Act of 1893 was passed when there was a great influx of negro laborers in this State drawn here for the purpose of working in turpentine and lumber camps. The same condition existed when the Act was amended in 1901 and the Act was passed for the purpose of disarming the negro laborers . . . . The statute was never intended to be applied to the white population and in practice has never been so applied. . . .[T]here has never been, within my knowledge, any effort to enforce the provisions of this statute as to white people, because it has been generally conceded to be in contravention of the Constitution and non-enforceable if contested.” “
