Photo3S-NIR™ Camera

photo3s near IR camera

” The Photo3S-NIR captures aerial video and high resolution still images in the near-infrared light spectrum. Both the Photo3S and Photo3S-NIR are 3-axis stabilized for stable imagery and precise tracking, and offer common benefits with Aeryon’s full line of integrated imaging payloads.

Military and Public Safety applications include detecting near-infrared light sources and indicators. Commercial and industrial applications include precision agriculture, assessing fire hazards, monitoring droughts, and other environmental projects. “

New Study Helps Explain Why Tuna and Porpoise Hang Out Together

” For decades, recreational and commercial fishermen have exploited the unique relationship between yellowfin tuna and certain species of porpoise (aka dolphin) in the Eastern Pacific. Schools of yellowfin swim with pods of spotted dolphin and spinner dolphin in the tropics, as well as Pacific common dolphin and white-sided dolphin as far north as Southern California in warmer months. Commercial fishermen look for the dolphin and then wrap up the pod with purse seines to capture the schooling tuna below, sometimes killing dolphin in the process. Recreational fishermen troll lures or put baits in front of the pod to catch yellowfin.

Most anglers, including me, have always believed that the relationship was born out of the search for food, though no one knew if the porpoise were leading the tuna to food or vice versa. However, recently published research indicates that the tuna follow the dolphin, but food is not the primary reason. “

9 Flattops at Norfolk

Norfolk Holidays

” With the returns from deployment of the carrier DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER on Dec. 19, and the amphibious ships IWO JIMA and NEW YORK on Dec. 20, the piers at Norfolk’s naval base are about as full up as they’ll ever be.

Five aircraft carriers, four big-deck amphibious assault ships, a full cast of “small boy” surface warships, along with nuclear submarines and support ships, are crowding the base, giving a comfortably snug feeling to the waterfront. Similar scenes — although not with the gathering of flattops seen here — are taking place at other fleet concentration areas like San Diego and Pearl Harbor. “

” To cleanse the palate. I was going to do a post on the Higgs boson, but what would you rather spend time on? Reading a dummy like me try to find insight about afantastically complex matter of particle physics or watching the single most awesome 15 seconds of fireworks that you’ll ever see? The bad news: The crowd apparently was bummed that hours of waiting outside paid off with less than half a minute of sparkly fun goodness. The good news: I’m reasonably sure that this is going to be the first Instagram pic to win a Pulitzer. Looks like a sexy space amoeba descending to Earth to spread love and music and hallucinogens and maybe a radioactive pathogen that’ll kill us all. Can’t wait to see which band buys the rights to it as cover art for their next album. “

Here’s hoping so , anyway .

“Election results from Wisconsin and the California cities of San Jose and San Diego communicate a simple message that is likely to be misunderstood by Democrats and Republicans, liberals and conservatives.

The short version: Voters everywhere are finally starting to realize that municipalities, states, and (here’s hoping) the federal government are out of money. That’s the real message of the major contests last night.”
