Why America Wants Drones That Can Kill Without Humans*

” Scientists, engineers and policymakers are all figuring out ways drones can be used better and more smartly, more precise and less damaging to civilians, with longer range and better staying power. One method under development is by increasing autonomy on the drone itself.

Eventually, drones may have the technical ability to make even lethal decisions autonomously: to respond to a programmed set of inputs, select a target and fire their weapons without a human reviewing or checking the result. Yet the idea of the U.S. military deploying a lethal autonomous robot, or LAR, is sparking controversy. Though autonomy might address some of the current downsides of how drones are used, they introduce new downsides policymakers are only just learning to grapple with.

The basic conceit behind a LAR is that it can outperform and outthink a human operator. “If a drone’s system is sophisticated enough, it could be less emotional, more selective and able to provide force in a way that achieves a tactical objective with the least harm,” said Purdue University Professor Samuel Liles. “A lethal autonomous robot can aim better, target better, select better, and in general be a better asset with the linked ISR [intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance] packages it can run.” “

An Update On Obama’s Personal Army…

” Because the American military swears an allegiance to the U.S. Constitution, and not to the President, could Obama’s strategy be to strip our Armed Services and shift their dollars into an all powerful civilian Army under his command?  Two tips coming into CiR this week surprisingly connect just these dots and link these machinations to Obamacare funding.

An article from the Marine Corps Times this week states: “The Marine Corps faces a difficult period of transition that will include shedding thousands of personnel per year, sharpening its role as a crisis-response force. . .”  This means our U.S. Marine Corps is being cut by 8,000 personnel fewer “than previously planned, and 12,800 fewer than the 186,800 end strength” recommended by senior Marine analysts!  This severe reduction in the Marine Corps force is the “minimum acceptable force” according to the warning given Congress by Commandant Gen. Jim Amos.  “Eleven combat arms battalions and 14 aviation squadrons will be cut,” he added.  This very important article, sent to CiR, details a severe force reduction in “Manpower and Force Structure,” plus procurements and even Aviation.  As many as 25,000 airmen and 550 planes “would go if sequester continues.”  But how come sequester isn’t affecting Obama’s Army?

A long time FEMA source cites this sentence in the Obama Army speech:  “We cannot continue to rely only on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we’ve set.”  This tipster told CiR that when Obama took office, older, long time FEMA employees and/or individual assistance personnel were in the process of being replaced by “18 to 24 year olds who knew next to nothing” about homeland security or emergency response.  These young people and FEMA operations were pulled into Washington, D.C. under the executive branch’s prerogative.”

U.S. Spy’s Secrets Assist Chinese Electronic Warfare Against U.S. military Data Links

” China’s military is using stolen U.S. military secrets obtained from a convicted spy to defeat a high-technology communications system used in joint warfighting, combined arms warfare, and missile defenses, according to U.S. officials.

The disclosure that China has the capability of jamming the Joint Tactical Information Distribution System, or JTIDS, was revealed in a Chinese military technical article published in July.

JTIDS is part of a group of military communications systems called Link 16 that gives U.S. military forces jam-resistant communications, a key strategic advantage used in joint warfighting, a specialty of the American military.

JTIDS allows for a nearly unlimited number of military commanders and operators to share information, such as precision location or position data, critical in tracking, monitoring, and targeting. It is also resistant to electronic warfare attacks by rapidly jumping to different frequencies.

The Chinese article reveals that the People’s Liberation Army is studying this feature and working to defeat it.

The article, “Anti-Jamming Performance of JTIDS-Type Waveform,” was published July 10 in the journal Aerospace Electronic Warfare, a publication of Institute 8511, a unit of the China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation (CASIC).

The article states that Chinese researchers have studied the JTIDS anti-jamming capabilities and formulated an “optimal jamming strategy from the point of view of the interferer.” “

The Demographics Of Enlisted Troops And Officers

Interactive U.S. map of troop representation levels

” Who serves in the active-duty ranks of the U.S. all-volunteer military? Conventional wisdom holds that military service disproportionately attracts minorities and men and women from disadvantaged backgrounds. Many believe that troops enlist because they have few options, not because they want to serve their country. Others believe that the war in Iraq has forced the military to lower its recruiting standards.

Previous Heritage Foundation studies that examined the backgrounds of enlisted personnel refute this interpretation.[1] This report expands on those studies by using an improved methodology to study the demographic characteristics of newly commissioned officers and personnel who enlisted in 2006 and 2007.

Any discussion of troop quality must take place in context. A soldier’s demographic characteristics are of little importance in the military, which values honor, leadership, self-sacrifice, courage, and integrity-qualities that cannot be quantified. Nonetheless, any assessment of the quality of recruits can take place only on the basis of objective criteria. Demographic characteristics are a poor proxy for the quality of those who serve in the armed forces, but they can help to explain which Americans volunteer for military service and why.

Based on an understanding of the limitations of any objective definition of quality, this report compares military volunteers to the civilian population on four demographic characteristics: household income, education level, racial and ethnic background, and regional origin. This report finds that:”  READ IT ALL HERE

No Longer Unthinkable: Should US Ready For ‘Limited’ Nuclear War?

” For more than 60 years, most Americans have thought of nuclear weapons as an all-or-nothing game. The only way to win is not to play at all, we believed, because any use of nukes will lead to Armageddon. That may no longer be the game our opposition is playing. As nuclear weapons proliferate to places that might not share our reluctance to use them in small numbers, however, the US military may face a “second nuclear age” of retail Armageddon for which it is utterly unprepared.

Adversaries are less likely to be deterred by America’s nuclear arsenal if they decide we won’t strike back with our big bombs in response to a limited, low-yield nuclear attack on US troops. It’s even less credible the US will retaliate massively if the adversary stages the nuclear strike on its own soil as a last-ditch defense against “regime change,” as Russia has wargamed and as Iran is no doubt tempted to do. Least credible of all  is US nuclear retaliation for a nuclear attack that doesn’t actually kill anyone: An enemy with even modest space capability can detonate a nuclear warhead high in the atmosphere, where it will generate a high-altitude electromagnetic pulse (or HEMP) that disrupts the electronics on which the US military depends without actually taking any lives. (Congress has held hearings on electromagnetic pulse in the past, albeit focused on threats to the American homeland rather than US forces abroad, but legislative interest has waned since the 2012 defeat of Maryland Rep. Roscoe Bartlett, the Hill’s foremost hawk on EMP).

“We’ve gotten very used to bombing countries, going downtown and working our will” from Baghdad to Belgrade, Wilson said. When the target has nuclear weapons, however, even using  America’s fading conventional superiority starts looking a lot more dangerous.”

U.S. Currently Fighting 74 Different Wars … That It Will Publicly Admit

” Linda J. Bilmes and Michael D. Intriligator, ask in a recent paper, “How many wars is the US fighting today?”

Citing a page at US Central Command’s (CENTCOM) website, they highlight the “areas of responsibility” publicly listed:

The US Central Command (CENTCOM) is active in 20 countries across the Middle Eastern region, and is actively ramping-up military training, counterterrorism programs, logistical support, and funding to the military in various nations. At this point, the US has some kind of military presence in Afghanistan, Bahrain, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, U.A.E., Uzbekistan, and Yemen.

US Africa Command (AFRICOM), according to the paper, “supports military-to-military relationships with 54 African nations.”

[Gosztola points out that the U.S. military is also conducting operations of one kind or another in Syrian, Jordan, South Sudan, Kosovo, Libya, Yemen, the Congo, Uganda, Mali, Niger and other countries.]

Altogether, that makes 74 nations where the US is fighting or “helping” some force in some proxy struggle that has been deemed beneficial by the nation’s masters of war.

Special Operator who Debriefed Benghazi Responders Claims Troops Were Available

Benghazi_Help

” There seems to be an uptick in reports coming out now about Benghazi. This interview is still hidden, but we may not be far away from the first full testimony or interview with either a survivor or someone who was part of the process.

“Special Report” hosts a special operator that says multiple assets could have aided U.S. forces in Benghazi.

The administration has insisted from the beginning that there was no help available for the Americans under assault in Libya. None that could arrive in time to change the outcome in Benghazi.

SPECIAL OPERATOR: “I know for a fact that C 110 CIF was doing a training exercise, not in the region of northern Africa but in Europe. And they had the ability to react and respond.”

The C110 is a Combatant Commanders In-extremis Force, in layman’s terms, a 40 man special operators force capable of rapid response and deployment specifically trained for incidents like the one in Benghazi.”

Dedicated to Helping Snipers Kill the Enemy — AmericanSnipers.org

” The following is the account and history directly from the organization we all need to support.

In late 2003, a small group of U.S. police snipers formed a support network to address the operational equipment needs of U.S. military snipers deployed abroad in the war on terror.

Formerly known as “The Adopt A Sniper” program, the effort began as a simple request for assistance among deployed friends, whom were also peace officers serving in the National Guard and Reserve. These peace officers were employed as SWAT team snipers at home in the U.S. and were also assigned as snipers within the United States military.

As the initial war in Afghanistan stabilized and the war in Iraq progressed, the urban mission profiles of police and military snipers were found to overlap. The gear and supplies needed to accomplish the two missions were found to be virtually identical. Once deployed, these military snipers requested assistance from their SWAT sniper friends in procuring the specialized gear, which was better suited for their missions and but not supplied by their parent military entity for a variety of reasons.”

Is Martial Law Imminent?

Editors Note : This article is a few years old but in light of recent developments we here at YouViewed thought that it deserved a second reading . If anything the scenario it discusses is more likely than ever .

” A somewhat disturbing ad recently appeared on internet employment sites, the ad in question was placed by the National Guard. Apparently, the Guard is now looking for people to work at internment camps.

Here is the ad as it appeared:

“Correction Officer Internment / Resettlement Specialist”

“As an Internment/Resettlement Specialist for the Army National Guard, you will ensure the smooth running of military confinement/correctional facility or detention/internment facility, similar to those duties conducted by civilian Corrections Officers. This will require you to know proper procedures and military law; and have the ability to think quickly in high-stress situations. Specific duties may include assisting with supervision and management operations; providing facility security; providing custody, control, supervision, and escort; and counseling individual prisoners in rehabilitative programs.”

So, why is the National Guard hiring “Internment / Resettlement Specialists?”

In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, 15,000 federal troops patrolled the streets of New Orleans. We were told that they were there to stop the looting and perform humanitarian duties. Of course, the widespread looting was brought under control, but under that control, many law-abiding citizens also lost their rights as well. Soldiers as well as armed Blackwater contractors went house to house, detaining citizens and confiscating their firearms…Martial law had come to New Orleans.

The worst scene I can remember from those terrible days was of a patrol of U.S. soldiers arriving at the home of an elderly woman. The soldiers forced their way into the woman´s home, wrestled her to her kitchen floor, handcuffed her, and confiscated her revolver (her only protection against the violent criminals in that city). The woman cried and pleaded with the soldiers to allow her to protect herself.

Despite her loud protests, the soldiers then picked up the woman and placed her onto the back of their truck. Though she wanted to stay in her home, these soldiers took her away against her own will.

I don´t know what happened to that poor woman, but I remember thinking…My God! If that can happen there, it can happen in any other American city!

Unfortunately, it would appear that the groundwork for martial law in this country has been laid and may be soon implemented. It could be declared in the event of another terrorist attack, a natural disaster, or even a worsening financial crisis.

On October 13, 2008, President of Euro Pacific Capital Peter Schiff appeared on the Glenn Beck Show. Their most troubling exchange follows:

SCHIFF: “You know, what`s going to happen, of course, is as inflation starts running out of control and prices start going through the roof, the government again is going to focus on the symptoms and not the disease. And they are going to impose price controls on energy, on food, on a lot of other things that are vital, which means shortages, which means long lines, black markets, civil unrest. All this stuff is coming if we don`t stop. [...]

BECK: Peter, let`s talk a little bit about martial law. Why would that even be a consideration?

SCHIFF: Well, I don`t think it was a threat if they had rejected the bailout Bill, but I think it is a possibility a few years down the line. We just spoke a little bit about price controls and the effect that they are going to have.

If we have shortages of food, if we have rolling blackouts. And people are upset, and they are hungry, and they are cold, there could be civil unrest. There could be looting, rioting, and that might be the impetus for the government to declare martial law.”

Read the whole thing and make up your own minds . also please note that it was President Bush that actually paved the way for the elimination of the Posse Comitatus Act . Our liberties are under assault from ALL government , not just the libera side of the aisle .

” On October 17, 2006, President Bush signed into law, the John Warner Defense Authorization Act. The new law allows the President to declare a “public emergency” at his own discretion, and place federal troops anywhere throughout the United States. Under this law, the President also now has the authority to federalize National Guard troops without the consent of Governors, in order to restore “public order.” The President can now deploy federal troops to U.S. cities, at will, which eliminates the 1878 Posse Comitatus Act. In short, President Obama can now declare Martial Law anytime he pleases.

An Excerpt from the John Warner Defense Authorization Act follows:

“Use of the Armed Forces in Major Public Emergencies.” Section 333, “Major public emergencies; interference with State and Federal law” states that “the President may employ the armed forces, including the National Guard in Federal service, to restore public order and enforce the laws of the United States when, as a result of a natural disaster, epidemic, or other serious public health emergency, terrorist attack or incident, or other condition in any State or possession of the United States, the President determines that domestic violence has occurred to such an extent that the constituted authorities of the State or possession are incapable of (“refuse” or “fail” in) maintaining public order, “in order to suppress, in any State, any insurrection, domestic violence, unlawful combination, or conspiracy.”

Gen. McChrystal Wants Tighter Restrictions on Civilian M4s

Stan McChrystal

” Retired Gen. Stanley McChrystal joined the growing ranks of talking heads speaking out on the current gun-control debate on MSNBC. McChrystal appeared on the show to talk about his new memoir ”My Share of the Task” but was quite clear about his position on the private ownership of weapons such as M4-style carbines. McChrystal was the commander of U.S. forces in Afghanistan before he resigned in the wake of a scandalous Rolling Stones article in 2010. I’m surprised he didn’t side-step the issue.”

What kind of army officer doesn’t support our constitutional liberties ? This is a clear demonstration of the PC rot that has infested the upper echelons of all sectors of government including the military . Seeing this blatant statism from a supposed defender of our freedoms has to make one wonder where the Army’s loyalties will lie when the SHTF .

LYONS: Draft Of New U.S. Army Handbook Must Be Scrapped

” According to the Army’s Combined Arms Center at Ft. Leavenworth, Kan., it is our military’s ignorance and lack of empathy for Muslim and Afghan cultural norms that is the basic cause for our Afghan military partners to react violently and kill our troops.

For example, if our military personnel hear or witness an Afghan soldier sodomizing a young boy, the handbook tells U.S. service members to voice no objection, accept it or ignore it, or they could be killed. If an Afghan beats, rapes or kills a woman in the presence of a U.S. serviceman, they are not to interfere or stand up for women’s rights or else they might be killed.

What the Army is saying, in effect, is that if Afghan partners conduct violence against U.S. service personnel, it is the serviceman’s fault. This is mind-boggling. We know, according to former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Adm. Mike Mullen, that nine out of 10 Afghan military personnel are illiterate and cannot be counted on in combat. Endemic corruption is embedded in Afghan culture and certainly extends to their military. They cannot be trusted.

Other cultural norms our professional U.S. military must accept without reservation by our Afghan partners is desertion, drug use, thievery, dog torture and collusion with the enemy, the Taliban. Also, U.S. military members must not discuss Islam in any form. “

US Soldiers Ordered To Not Criticize Islam, Pedophilia Or Advocate Women’s Rights

” Well, it now seems that the new Army Manual reflects Barack Obama’s soft spot for Islam and muzzles our American soldiers fighting for freedom, including freedom of speech.  And you STILL don’t think this guy is a danger to our country?

From Judicial Watch:

Here is a strong indicator that the Obama Administration’s crusade to
appease Islam has gone too far; a  new U.S. military handbook for
troops deployed to the Middle East orders soldiers not to make
derogatory comments about the Taliban or criticize pedophilia, among
other outrageous things.

It gets better; the new manual, which is around 75 pages, suggests
that Western ignorance of Afghan culture— not Taliban infiltration—is
responsible for the increase in deadly attacks by Afghan soldiers
against the coalition forces. “

M14, M21/M25 SWS, M1A, Mk 14 EBR

“It is better to burn out then to fade away.” Thus it was for one of the shortest-lived standard-issued battle rifles for the U. S. military. A firearm sandwiched in between the great M1 Garand and the M16, historically speaking this gun barely made a showing on the battlefield. However, in its brief appearance it made such an impression that it is once again being called in the line of duty. That rifle is the United States 7.62mm M14. “
