” After falling victim to thieves who swiped packages off of their front porch several times, a Northeast D.C. couple decided to teach them a lesson.

Tis the season for package thieves; many D.C.-area residents have recently caught robbers taking packages on surveillance. But for one couple, caught on camera wasn’t enough—they boxed up a stinky surprise from their two dogs.

About 3 p.m. Friday, surveillance footage shows a man walking up and down the sidewalk in front of their home, before stealing their package and taking off. The caught-on-camera incident marked the third package taken from their yard since October. “

Sheriffs Plan Massive Gathering In Washington To Oppose Executive Amnesty

” Sheriffs across the country are planning a massive gathering in Washington, D.C., to speak out against President Obama’s potential executive action on immigration.

Sheriff Thomas M. Hodgson of Bristol County, Mass., sent a letter to organize a meeting of sheriffs in Washington, D.C., on December 10, two days before the existing government-funding bill expires, to meet with congressmen and encourage them to take action to secure the border.

“ Never before in our nation’s history has it been so important for the American sheriffs to stand united and speak with one voice to secure our nation’s borders,” Hodgson wrote. “Senator Jeff Sessions, Senator David Vitter and other members of Congress have agreed to join us at the Capitol to demand immediate action to secure our borders as the first step in achieving legitimate immigration reform in the future. Several sheriffs have agreed to work in a spirit of cooperation to assist in recruiting at least 200 sheriffs to travel to Washington, D.C. for this historic meeting and press conference with members of Congress.” “

Census Bureau: California Still Has Highest U.S. Poverty Rate

” California continues to have – by far – the nation’s highest level of poverty under an alternative method devised by the Census Bureau that takes into account both broader measures of income and the cost of living.

Nearly a quarter of the state’s 38 million residents (8.9 million) live in poverty, a new Census Bureau report says, a level virtually unchanged since the agency first began reporting on the method’s effects.

Under the traditional method of gauging poverty, adopted a half-century ago, California’s rate is 16 percent (6.1 million residents), somewhat above the national rate of 14.9 percent but by no means the highest. That dubious honor goes to New Mexico at 21.5 percent.

But under the alternative method, California rises to the top at 23.4 percent while New Mexico drops to 16 percent and other states decline to as low as 8.7 percent in Iowa.

The only other state to approach California in the alternate rankings is Nevada at 20 percent, although Washington, D.C., is close at 22.4 percent. “

Does anyone else find it peculiar that the poverty rates are greatest in the areas of Obama’s greatest support ?

D.C. To Begin Accepting First Applications In Decades For Concealed-Firearm Permits

” D.C. Police Chief Cathy L. Lanier on Thursday said her department will begin accepting applications next week for the first public permits to carry concealed firearms in the nation’s capital in more than four decades.

Lanier’s announcement came as the D.C. Council’s judiciary committee met to grapple with a federal judge’s ruling striking down the District’s long-standing concealed-carry ban. That ruling, handed down in July, will take effect next week.

Last month, the D.C. Council enacted emergency legislation — and is in the process of writing a permanent law — to allow city residents to carry concealed weapons. The measures set out requirements for D.C. residents who own properly registered handguns as well as nonresidents with a state carry license to obtain a permit to bear a concealed weapon in the city.

But both the temporary law and the permanent measure would be among the most restrictive nationwide, giving Lanier the final say on which applications are granted. The chief and other officials have said that strict rules are needed to ensure the security of dignitaries and high-profile events.”

Not exactly a shall-issue situation , this “emergency legislation” , while landmark in that the citizens of DC can finally attempt to exercise their 2nd Amendment rights , as written those rights are still to be “allowed” under the sole discretion of one political bureaucrat … further litigation seems a certainty . Any guesses as to the chances of the average  DC resident being granted “permission” to defend themselves in one of the most dangerous cities in the country ?

“Please Leave Our Neighborhood”: Rich White Woman Defends Elderly Black Man From Cops

” Last week, an elderly African-American man was walking through a wealthy neighborhood just outside of Washington D.C when he was confronted by two African-American Washington Metro Police.

Without any reason, the officers stopped the man and began to question him.  The man had allegedly expressed some dissatisfaction with how he was being singled out, and the officers then ordered him to get on the ground.

Jody Westby, a white, female attorney and CEO of a company called Global Cyber Risk LLC, witnessed the altercation while working from her home office.  She immediately ran out to confront the police, and asked her housekeeper to record the developing situation. “

Heavy Rain, Floods Swamp Mid-Atlantic, Northeast

” Drenching rain led to flash floods in the Washington and Baltimore metro areas Tuesday as a potent storm system slogged through the Mid-Atlantic.

The heavy rain is forecast to pelt the Northeast and New England later on Tuesday and into Wednesday.

A flash flood emergency was in effect for parts of the Baltimore area as of late afternoon.

Several people were rescued from flooded cars and numerous roads were closed in the D.C. area, WUSA-TV reported. Roads are also closed in the Baltimore area.

As of late afternoon, Baltimore had picked up 6.27 inches of rain, making this the city’s second-rainiest August day since records began in 1871. Photos on social media showed cars swamped in a parking lot at BWI airport.

Some spots had picked up an estimated 10 inches of rain, the National Weather Service reported. “Numerous water rescues and road closures have been reported.” “

Mystery: Posters In NYC, D.C. Call Clintons ‘America’s Lannisters’

” A new Clinton mystery has hit New York City and Washington, D.C. with the surprise display of posters declaring the Clintons as “America’s Most Dangerous Family” and “America’s Lannisters.”

Pulled by advertising bikes over the weekend, the posters use themes from TV’s “Game of Thrones” and “House of Cards” in portraying BillHillary and Chelsea Clinton — and advisor James Carville — as evil, though they don’t indicate exactly what the advertising is for.

One of the ad posters appears similar to the style of the hit Netflix series, “House of Cards.” The poster is in black and white and shows Bill and Hillary under an upside down U.S. flag, the sign of distress. That poster reads, “America’s Most Dangerous Family.” “

Elites Beware: Eric Cantor’s Defeat May Signal A Populist Revolution

” Expecting House Majority Leader Eric Cantor to win his GOP primary in Virginia, I spent Election Day in Pennsylvania – interviewing angry Republicans, Democrats and independents about the rise of political populism.

I was in the wrong state, but I had the right topic. Cantor’s defeat has less to do with immigration reform than it does with an uneven movement that should frighten conservative and liberal political elites to their shallow cores.

Americans see a grim future for themselves, their children and their country.  They believe their political leaders are selfish, greedy and short-sighted – unable and/or unwilling to shield most people from wrenching economic and social change. For many, the Republican Party is becoming too extreme, while the Democratic Party – specifically President Obama – raised and dashed their hopes for true reform.”

Only someone who has lived in a cave for the past twenty years could believe that real change can come from the District of Corruption . Despite the best efforts of the Corporate-State run media to demonize all things Tea Party and despite the occasional drug-addled morons shooting up the neighborhood a la Las Vegas , more and more citizens are coming to the conclusion that the ballot box and the courts offer no recourse …

” At the West Chester’s popular D.K. Diner, a U.S. veteran who served five combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan said the only solution may be a revolution against political elites. “We may need to drag politicians out and shoot them like they did in Cuba,” said a grim-faced Frederick Derry two days after a Los Vegas couple allegedly shot two police officers. The attackers draped their bodies with a “Don’t Tread on Me” flag, according to ABC News, pinned a swastika on them and a note that read “The revolution has begun.”

A violent revolution is unconscionable. But what may be in the air is a peaceful populist revolt – a bottom-up, tech-fueled assault on 20th century political institutions. In a memo to his fellow Democrats, former Clinton White House political director Doug Sosnik writes persuasively about “an increasing populist push across the political spectrum.

At the core of Americans’ anger and alienation is the belief that the American Dream is no longer attainable. Previous generations held fast to the promise that anyone who worked hard and played by the rules could get ahead, regardless of their circumstances. But increasingly, Americans have concluded that the rules aren’t fair and that the system has been rigged to concentrate power and wealth in the hands of a privileged few at the expense of the many. And now the government is simply not working for anyone.”

Sosnik is wrong in that the government is working for some people and some businesses , just not the bulk of the taxpaying public . It’s working just fine if you draw a publicly funded paycheck as a federal employee or are a lobbyist , politician or corporate bigwig . It also works quite well if you happen to be a member of the media elite as the cronyism and nepotism between those two entities is well-documented .

But he is correct in thinking that the time is nigh for the average citizen to choose sides and decide if he/she will indeed take part in the destruction of the barricades .

” Which side of the barricade are you on? Populists from the right and the left – from the tea party and libertarian-leaning Rand Paul to economic populist Elizabeth Warren – are positioning themselves among the insurgents. Sosnik pointed to six areas of consensus that eventually may unite the divergent populist forces:

  • A pull back from the rest of the world with more of an inward focus.
  • A desire to go after big banks and other large financial institutions
  • Elimination of corporate welfare.
  • Reducing special deals for the rich.
  • Pushing back on the violation of the public’s privacy by the government and big business.
  • Reducing the size of government.

In Washington, Cantor’s defeat is being chalked up to the tea party’s intolerance toward immigration reform. While he paid a price for flirting with a White House compromise, Cantor’s greater sin was inauthenticity – brazenly flip-flopping on the issue. Typical politician.”

Mr Fournier’s contention that Elizabeth “Fauxcahontas” Warren is anything but a confirmed Statist aside , we are willing to concede that the lines of battle are being drawn and that there is much common ground to be found between the Occupy crowd and the Tea Partiers .

The question remains , which American personage will be able to unite these disparate interests and lead the charge over the barricades of corruption to reinstate American republicanism and reestablish a nation of limited government .

Net Neutrality Activists Are Mobilizing For A “Day Of Action”

Save The Internet

” Internet activists are hunkered down today, meeting with major tech companies, startups, venture capitalists, and organizations representing communities of color in preparation for a coordinated response to counter the Federal Communications Commission’s proposed new rules that could destroy net neutrality.

The proposed FCC regulations, first reported yesterday by the Wall Street Journal, would allow broadband providers to essentially act as gatekeepers and charge websites fees in order to reach customers through a data “fast lane.” This is the antithesis of net neutrality, which states that all traffic is to be treated equally. In short, net neutrality is an assurance that internet providers can’t favor one kind of traffic over another, or charge for access to certain parts of the internet. According to activists, yesterday’s reports signal a hard end to that practice as well as the open internet (FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler attacked the reports in a blog post, saying that “the allegation that it will result in anti-competitive price increases for consumers is also unfounded”).

The news has web activists are worried. And they’re mobilizing.

“ Net Neutrality is on life support,” Free Press’ Josh Levy wrote this afternoon in a joint Reddit AMA on the subject. As of this afternoon, it’s the top post on Reddit’s front page with over 5,000 upvotes, a signal that the news seems to have hit a nerve online and that frustration with the FCC is beginning to bleed into the mainstream.”

Man Found Guilty After Carrying Replica Bullets

You can read more about Mark Witaschek and his ordeal with the DC statists from our previous efforts to highlight Emily Miller’s great work on his behalf . Perhaps a brief synopsis of the case is in order for the new readers : Based on a phone tip from a disgruntled ex-wife Mr Witaschek , a successful businessman with no criminal record , and his family were subject to a full scale SWAT raid in the wee hours of the morning looking for “illegal firearms” .

After an exhaustive search there were no illegal firearms found  , but a fired shotgun shell , a souvenir from an past upland hunt , and some muzzle loading supplies were uncovered . For that Mr Witaschek’s life has been turned upside down by the State .

This incident serves to vividly illustrate the two-tiered legal system that absolves a celebrity , one of the Elite , like David Gregory for knowingly possessing one of those “evil” 30 round magazines while persecuting the “unconnected” citizen on a much less serious offense .

Kudos to Emily Miller and the Washington Times , who alone have made it their mission to see that this case gets the attention it deserves . The links in the previous sentence will take the reader to the body of work from Ms Miller and the Times regarding their reporting of Mr Witaschek .

” Since November, advertisements featuring the face of former National Security Agency contractor Edward Snowden have been wrapped around several city buses roaming the streets and avenues of Washington, D.C. The can’t-miss ads featuring whistleblower Snowden’s goateed visage cover most of the outside of the buses.

The ads are part of the Thank You, Edward Snowden campaign headed by the Partnership for Civil Justice Fund, a left-leaning public interest organization that focuses on defending activists’ free speech rights. According to the group’s executive director, Mara Verheyden-Hilliard, the ads were funded by donations from some 30,000 citizens.” “

Here’s Big-G , the ultimate Konnection …

Big G is the leader of The Kronies. He towers over the other Kronies—heck, he towers over everybody. His bulging muscles are only a fraction of his power. His half-blue, half-red suit symbolizes the two-party system. He has a mirror for a face (because Big G is “us”). How can so much power be concentrated in one hero? Ask the Kronies. Together, they make an unstoppable team.

Big G’s origins are something of a mystery. He is thought to have emerged long, long ago — at a point when human beings started thinking of clan kings as having godlike powers. Some say this powerful entity manifests itself in many different civilizations, at many different places and times. Today he has found his greatest expression here in America — as Big G.

Some think Big G is all powerful. But like all heroes, Big G has a weakness. When the people falter in their belief in the Greater Good, his power starts to wane. Thus, he sometimes has to demonstrate his terrific might, to bring about order, and to align the people towards the Greater Good. A few times in the past, he’s lost grip on the G-force. When that happens he goes underground only to reemerge later — bigger, stronger and more powerful than before.

Smith & Wesson To Stop Selling Guns In California Due To Microstamping Law

http://cdn.breitbart.com/mediaserver/Breitbart/Big-Government/2014/01/18/Smith-and-Wesson-Gun-Show-AP.png

” Smith & Wesson announced it will stop selling its handguns in California rather than manufacture them to comply with the new micro-stamping law. The other publicly traded firearms manufacturer in the U.S., Sturm, Ruger, also said this month that it will stop new sales to California.

The announcement late Wednesday came a week after the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), the trade association for firearms manufacturers, filed suit against California for requiring that all new semi-automatic pistols that are not already on the state’s approved gun roster have the micro-stamping technology.

Smith & Wesson President and CEO James Debney said, “As our products fall off the roster due to California’s interpretation of the Unsafe Handgun Act, we will continue to work with the NRA and the NSSF to oppose this poorly conceived law which mandates the unproven and unreliable concept of micro-stamping and makes it impossible for Californians to have access to the best products with the latest innovations.” “

D.C. Man On Trial For One Shotgun Shell

” A year ago this month, the attorney general for the District of Columbia let NBC News anchor David Gregory off scot-free for possession of a “high capacity” magazine because doing so “would not promote public safety.”

Now, Irvin Nathan refuses to use that same prosecutorial discretion for an average citizen who violated a bizarre technicality that makes empty casings and shells a crime as serious as having an illegal firearm.

Mr. Witaschek, a successful financial adviser with no criminal history, is the first known case of a citizen being prosecuted in D.C. for inoperable ammunitionWashington police and prosecutors have spent a year and a half trying to nail him for the possession of so-called unregistered ammunition.

A hunter and gun owner, Mr. Witaschek has always kept his firearms at his sister’s house in Virginia. If convicted, he faces a year in jail and a $1,000 fine for having a single, inoperable shotgun shell in his home. The jury trial starts on Feb. 11.

The Metropolitan Police Department raided Mr. Witaschek’s rented Georgetown house twice in the summer of 2012 on the word of his angry ex-wife.

Frustrated with not finding the promised firearms, the police handcuffed him, searched his home top to bottom and came out with only ammunition, which carries the same felony penalty as a firearm.

Mr. Witaschek told me this week, “Since the night my home was invaded and family terrorized by a militarized D.C. police force, I am more afraid of what government is doing than I am of any of the people I encountered when I spent the night in jail.” “

All this because of the word of a disgruntled ex-wife . Anyone who doubts the existence of the American police state are deluding themselves . Listen to the above video in which Emily Miller gives a detailed synopsis of the entire nightmare that has been foisted on the Witaschek family .

Millions In Farm Subsidies Flow Freely To DC Residents Who Don’t Actually Farm

” Washington, D.C., doesn’t have many farms, or farmers. Yet thousands of residents in and around the nation’s capital receive millions of dollars every year in federal farm subsidies, including working-class residents in Southeast, wealthy lobbyists on K Street and well-connected lawmakers on Capitol Hill.

In neighboring Chevy Chase, Md., one of the nation’s wealthiest communities, lawyers, lobbyists and at least one psychologist collected nearly $342,000 in taxpayer farm subsidies between 2008 and 2011, according to the watchdog group Open the Books.

Taxpayer subsidies were also paid out to Gerald Cassidy, the founder of one of Washington’s most powerful lobbying firms, Cassidy & Associates; Charlie Stenholm, a former congressman; and Chuck Grassley, a Republican senator from Iowa. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack continues to receive subsides even though he has overseen the agency that pays them since 2009.

” All of it is entirely legal,” said Adam Andrzejewski, founder of Open the Books, a group that created an online database and mobile app to track the subsidies.

To illustrate just how far the subsidy program has strayed from its original purpose, Open the Books calculated payments going to three major cities with few, if any, modern ties to farming: Washington, D.C., New York City and Chicago. Taxpayers sent $30 million to those residents over the past four years to compensate them for converting farmland to conservation areas and for growing soybeans, cotton, corn, rice and other crops.”

Poll: Americans Have Little Faith In Government

Americans enter 2014 with a profoundly negative view of their government, expressing little hope that elected officials can or will solve the nation’s biggest problems, a new poll finds.

Half say America’s system of democracy needs either “a lot of changes” or a complete overhaul, according to the poll conducted by the AP-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research. Just 1 in 20 says it works well and needs no changes.

Americans, who have a reputation for optimism, have a sharply pessimistic take on their government after years of disappointment in Washington.”

We are well and truly screwed . Americans have no faith in government yet demand more of it . This is the inevitable result of the generations long indoctrination of Statism through the co-operation of a compliant media and a state-run educational system .

” When it comes to the issues people cited as most important to them, 80 percent want the government to spend significant effort working on them. Yet 76 percent say they have little or no confidence the government will make real progress.

But asked generally about the role of government in society, the AP-NORC Center poll finds Americans divided on how active they want government to be. Half say “the less government the better.” However, almost as many (48 percent) say “there are more things that government should be doing.”

On the economy, an area historically driven by the private sector, the poll finds a clear public desire for active government. Fifty-seven percent of Americans say “we need a strong government to handle today’s complex economic problems.”

Even among those who say “the less government the better,” 31 percent feel the nation needs a strong government to handle those complex problems.”

It’s A Very Merry Christmas For Washington Insiders

” I realize this is an unhappy topic to be discussing during the Christmas season, but the American people need to realize that they are being pillaged by the insiders that controlWashington and live fat and easy lives at our expense.

If you don’t believe me, check out this map showing that 10 of the 15 richest counties in America are the ones surrounding our nation’s imperial capital.

Who would have guessed that the wages of sin are so high?

D.C., itself, isn’t on the list. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t a lot of people living large inside the District.

Here are some interesting nuggets from a report in the Washington Business Journal:

D.C. residents are enjoying a personal income boom. The District’s total personal income in 2012 was $47.28 billion, or $74,733 for each of its 632,323 residents, according to the Office of the Chief Financial Officer’s Economic and Revenue Trends report for November. The U.S. average per capita personal income was $43,725.”

” Want some other examples of profitable Washington sleaze? Here are some excerpts fromRich Tucker’s column for Real Clear Policy:

The real place to park your money is in Washington, D.C. That’s because the way to get ahead isn’t to work hard or make things; it’s to lobby Washington for special privileges. Look no further than the sweet deal the sugar industry gets. It’s spent about $50 million on federal campaign donations over the last five years. So that would average out to $10 million per year. Last year alone, the federal government spent $278 million on direct expenditures to sugar companies. That’s a great return on investment.”

Washington: A World Apart

Where The Money Is

This map highlights in yellow the nation’s Super Zips — those ranking highest on income and college education.
The largest collection of Super Zips is around Washington, D.C.

It should come as no surprise that the bulk of the nation’s income resides in the DC to Boston corridor but the fact that DC is ground zero for riches , even beyond Manhattan should be appalling to every average American .

” A Washington Post analysis of the latest census data shows that more than a third of Zip codes in the D.C. metro area rank in the top 5 percent nationally for income and education. But what makes the region truly unusual is that so many of the high-end Zip codes are contiguous. They form a vast land mass that bounds across 717 square miles. It stretches 60 miles from its northern tip in Woodstock, Md., to the southern end in Fairfax Station, and runs 30 miles wide from Haymarket in Prince William County to the heart of the District up to Rock Creek Parkway.

One in four households in the region are in a Super Zip, according to the Post analysis. Since the 2000 Census on which Murray based his analysis, Washington’s Super Zips have grown to encompass 100,000 more residents. Only the New York City area has more Super Zips, but they are a much smaller share of the total of that region’s Zip codes and are more scattered.

Zip codes are large swaths of territory, and people from many different walks of life live in them. But many Washington neighborhoods are becoming more economically homogenous as longtime homeowners move out and increasing housing prices prevent the less affluent from moving in. The eventual result, in many cases, is a Super Zip. And because the contiguous Super Zips are surrounded by areas that are almost as well-off, it’s possible to live in a Super Zip and rarely encounter others without college degrees or professional jobs.”

Who controls these moneyed areas you ask ? Well , who do you think ? The party of the “common man” … LOL , Democrats all .

   * Long Island is harder to quantify given that it is a geographic area and not a municipality , but it is comprised of four different counties and we hereby provide the links to those which are also predominantly democratic in composition . The four counties/boroughs are Queens , Brooklyn aka Kings County , Nassau and Suffolk . Queens and Brooklyn being boroughs of the City of New York .

Nassau and Suffolk counties once Republican strongholds, these days see-saw back and forth between Republican and Democratic control but as the money from NYC spreads east once loyal republican districts are seeing their political make-up changed to be more in keeping with the statist agenda most commonly held in the city of NY .

It is certainly ironic that the majority of support for the “little people” resides in the gated communities that are actually  the bastions of wealth in this country .

Million Mask March Shuts Down Sections Of DC

Anonymous protesters at Washington Monument.

” The Million Mask March, an event organized by the Anonymous collective, unfolded in hundreds of cities around the world and the United States today.

The District of Columbia was no exception, and participants in the event peacefully assembled at national landmarks, occupied the Capitol building’s steps, shut down Pennsylvania Avenue, and briefly laid siege to the Department of Justice headquarters.

The March began at the Washington Monument at nine in the morning, where the group organized themselves as participants arrived from as far away as California, Oregon, Canada, Texas, Florida, and Maine. The air was filled with an excitement as more and more people arrived. Signs were made drawing attention to various causes including NSA surveillance, genetically modified foods, auditing the Federal Reserve, and freeing imprisoned Anons; most notably Jeremy Hammond and the PayPal 14.”

Activists from the umbrella group Anonymous donned their Guy Fawkes masks on November 5 as they held a rally outside the White House.

The 1605 failed assassin who tried to blow up the English parliament has become the symbol of the group which has various concerns including spying governments, education and war.

Demonstrator Doug Johnson explained why he was taking part:part:

“I’m just here, I’m trying to help the American people wake up a little bit and know that it’s our life, it’s our world and we can do with it what we want and we can make it a better place if we all choose to and if we all work together.”

” On October 26, 2013, protesters from across the political spectrum gathered in Washington, D.C. to take part in the Stop Watching Us rally, a demonstration against the National Security Agency’s domestic and international surveillance programs.

Reason TV spoke with protesters – including 2012 Libertarian Party presidential candidate Gary Johnson and former Congressman Dennis Kucinich – to discuss the rally, why people should worry about the erosion of privacy, and President Barack Obama’s role in the growth of the surveillance state.

Techies Concerned Over NSA Surveillance Will March In D.C., Proclaiming ‘Stop Watching Us

” Organizers hope to draw a couple of thousand protesters to the rally and march, set to kick off at 11:30 a.m. Saturday in front of Union Station before moving to the Reflecting Pool at the Capitol. Speakers will include Rep. Justin Amash (R-Mich.), former congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio), NSA whistleblower Thomas Drake and former Army Lt. Dan Choi, who is a gay-rights activist.”

” Hosted by a hodgepodge coalition that includes the American Civil Liberties Union and the Council on American-Islamic Relations as well as libertarian-leaning groups such as the Competitive Enterprise Institute and FreedomWorks, the Stop Watching Us organizers hope for a diverse crowd that includes the Internet-weary. No need to RSVP by name: Just show up! Don’t worry about those addresses they’re collecting from you — it’s just to let lawmakers know that an actual constituent has shown up; no other use for the data planned.

But it’s the Internet-savvy who represent the beating heart of the movement. At a training session Friday morning on the Hill, a few gray-haired activists and policy wonks stood out in a crowd dominated by the postgrad vibe — beards, glasses, shaggy hair — of techies on their day off from the cubicle farm.”

D.C. Businessman Faces Two Years In Jail For Unregistered Ammunition, Brass Casing

The man sure looks like a threat to public safety , doesn’t he ? It’s a good thing they had thirty armed officers to take him down . Jeez …

” Mark Witaschek, a successful financial adviser with no criminal record, is facing two years in prison for possession of unregistered ammunition after D.C. police raided his house looking for guns. Mr. Witaschek has never had a firearm in the city, but he is being prosecuted to the full extent of the law. The trial starts on Nov. 4.

The police banged on the front door of Mr. Witaschek’s Georgetown home at 8:20 p.m. on July 7, 2012, to execute a search warrant for “firearms and ammunition … gun cleaning equipment, holsters, bullet holders and ammunition receipts.

Mr. Witaschek’s 14-year-old daughter let inside some 30 armed officers in full tactical gear.

D.C. law requires residents to register every firearm with the police, and only registered gun owners can possess ammunition, which includes spent shells and casings. The maximum penalty for violating these laws is a $1,000 fine and a year in jail.

Police based their search on a charge made by Mr. Witaschek’s estranged wife, who had earlier convinced a court clerk to issue a temporary restraining order against her husband for threatening her with a gun, although a judge later found the charge to be without merit.

After entering the house, the police immediately went upstairs, pointed guns at the heads of Mr. Witaschek and his girlfriend, Bonnie Harris, and demanded they surrender, facedown and be handcuffed.

The police found no guns in the house, but did write on the warrant that four items were discovered: “One live round of 12-gauge shotgun ammunition,” which was an inoperable shell that misfired during a hunt years earlier. Mr. Witaschek had kept it as a souvenir. “One handgun holster” was found, which is perfectly legal.

One expended round of .270 caliber ammunition,” which was a spent brass casing. The police uncovered “one box of Knight bullets for reloading.” These are actually not for reloading, but are used in antique-replica, single-shot, muzzle-loading rifles. “
