” A Lamborghini that was part of an exotic car racing attraction at Walt Disney World crashed into a guardrail, killing a passenger and injuring the driver on Sunday, police said.

The attraction lets racecar fans be drivers or passengers in luxurious cars such as Lamborghinis, Porsches or Ferraris.

It wasn’t immediately clear if the driver was a track employee or a customer. The driver was hospitalized with minor injuries. The passenger was a 36-year-old man from Davenport.”

Horrifying Video Of VLN 1 Crash That Killed A Spectator At Nurburgring Race Track Released

” A horrifying incident took place yesterday at the VLN1 endurance race held at the iconic Nurburgring Race Track. British driver Jann Mardenborough was involved in an accident that resulted in the death of one spectator and the injury of two others.

The moment that Mardenborough’s Nissan flew over barriers into an unsuspecting crowd was caught on tape. In the video we see Mardenborough’s vehicle coming around a corner with the front end lifted from the ground. The car seems to ride on its back wheels for a moment before flying over a spectator barrier. The vehicle can be seen landing on its back. The video cuts away for a moment and then we see driver Mardenborough able to exit the vehicle on his own.”

Baby Found Alive In Car 14 Hours After Crash In Utah River

” A baby survived a car crash in a frigid Utah river after being strapped in a car seat upside-down for about 14 hours before being found by a fisherman, officers said.

The 18-month-old girl’s condition was upgraded from critical to stable but critical condition at a Salt Lake City hospital, but her 25-year-old mother, Lynn Groesbeck of Springville, was found dead in the car, police said Sunday.

The fisherman discovered the car on its top about 12:30 p.m. Saturday in the Spanish Fork River in Spanish Fork, about 50 miles south of Salt Lake City, police Lt. Matt Johnson said.

Investigators believe the wreck occurred about 10:30 p.m. Friday when a resident near the accident scene reported hearing something, Johnson said. The resident was unable to find anything out of the ordinary when checking the area near Provo.”

The Ford GT Will Cost $400,000, Sell 250 Per Year

Ford GT prototype - 2015 Chicago Auto Show live photos

” Revealed at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show to a shocked and awed audience, the Ford GT has lit the world afire with its dramatic styling and promised performance. Now, it has a price tag to match the heat of its debut: about $400,000.

The word comes from Dave Pericak of Ford Performance at the Geneva Motor Show. Pericak said the price of the Ford GT would be near that of the Lamborghini Aventador, which stickers at a brisk $397,500, base.”

” With “more than” 600 horsepower on tap from a twin-turbocharged EcoBoost 3.5-liter V-6, a carbon fiber and aluminum structure, and serious aerodynamics, the Prototype-racer in production form should prove to be among the world’s most impressive sports cars—if not quite on par with the $1-million-plus hypercars from McLaren, Porsche, and Ferrari.”

I-Team: Collector Car Owners Experience Daylight Nightmare

” A Washington couple says they were falsely arrested by the Nevada Highway Patrol for stealing a collector car they actually owned.

The highway patrol admitted two errors that led to Robin and Beverly Bruins being removed from their car at gunpoint. And, now, the highway patrol is facing a lawsuit.

As the I-Team learned, it all began with confusion over a license plate on a classic car. A highway patrol dash camera recorded a trooper stating over a loudspeaker: “Driver! Remove your keys from the ignition and put them on the roof now!”

From that point Robin Bruins and his wife experienced a daylight nightmare when the senior citizens found themselves looking down the barrels of police pistols.”

Driver Says He Had Been Drinking Before Upper Deck Crash

” An East Boston man says he had been drinking before his pickup truck launched off the upper deck of Interstate 93 and crashed onto the lower deck on Sunday morning.

Vannak Sao, 33, is facing charges of operating under the influence of liquor and negligent operation of a motor vehicle. Traffic cameras caught his truck smashing through a light pole, an exit sign and several lengths of chain link fence before plummeting to the lower deck, just missing another car.”

Nissan Silvia: Fast, furious … And Illegal In The United States?

” An Ocean Springs man a few weeks ago pleaded guilty for smuggling a Nissan Silvia into the United States. He faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

That seems steep for a car that can be purchased online for less than $20,000 (Australian). Some things to consider …

What is a Nissan Silvia: The Nissan Silvia refers to the Japanese car maker’s line of sports cars, which all share a similar chassis. The Nissan 240sx is the closest thing to a Silvia in the United States.

Why is this car so special: It has a unique aerodynamic frame, chrome detailing, and turbo-charged engine. In other words, it’s very fast. They have low platforms, rounded upper bodies, and sloping hoods. The Nissan Silvia S15 has a slim front end, complete with a low front bumper and integrated grill. According to one website, the wide headlights slope inward from the sides and combine with lower fog lights to give the driver high visibility in sub-par conditions.

Why is this car illegal in the United States: This particular vehicle was declared illegal because it did not meet federal safety and pollution standards and it had a right-hand steering column, similar to cars in England. However, some Silvia cars have been modified for U.S. regulations and registered in the United States.

Why risk bringing it into the United States: First, only the defendant (Kendall Noble) can say his reasons for bringing this particular vehicle into the country. But many car enthusiasts purchase the Nissan Silvia S15 because it has had great success in local drag racing (street classification), drifting competitions and street racing. In drifting, the car has won 7 D1 Grand Prix championships with 5 different drivers driving the S15 (Nobuteru Taniguchi:2001; Ryuji Miki:2004; Yasuyuki Kazama:2005; Masato Kawabata:2007; Youichi Imamura:2009,2010,2011) “

This story absolutely reeks of shame and government overreach , as the reader can see in the comments . Doesn’t our government have better ways to spend our money than on a witch hunt for “illegal” cars ? We would like to know why the car , regardless of emission standards and righthand steering is illegal without it being put on the road .

It seems to us that until it is being driven on the road that it is no different than a top fuel dragster of a Nascar vehicle , neither of which meet highway safety standards nor emission standards .

Gunman Knocked Down In Attempted Car-Jacking

” Footage has been revealed of an armed man trying to escape a high-speed police chase by hijacking a car on a busy motorway.

Two men had been tracked by police from Queensland, Australia, on a 93-mile (150km) police chase from near Brisbane through to New South Wales.

Police halted the blue Mitsubishi Lancer with road spikes at Tweed Heads before one of the men fired his semi-automatic handgun at police.

He then tried to shoot at a passing car, forcing it to stop suddenly and the car behind it to plough into its back, sending belongings across the busy Pacific Motorway.

  Both drivers appeared unhurt.

Apparently trying to hijack another car, the 32-year-old pointed his gun at another vehicle, which struck him, knocking the gun from his hand.”

The NASCAR/Nick Offerman Super Bowl Commercial Kicks Tuchus

” There are two NASCAR Super Bowl XLIX commercials floating around the intertubes, a two-plus-minute spot and a cut-down, :30 version. With airtime costing $9 million per minute ($150,000/second!), it’s probably safe to assume that NASCAR will air the shorter version during the game, but we think you deserve to see the full-boat version too:(see above)

What We See: Both versions feature Parks and Recreation star Nick Offerman with his giant, manly man moustache, advocating for saving America’s fast-disappearing values by watching NASCAR on the NBC Sports Network (there is no mention of the Fox coverage that starts in February). Visually, it’s pretty much all Offerman all the time, but the background vignettes are packed with uniquely American jingoistic icons: star-spangled thong bathing suits, rodeo bull riding, double-neck electric guitars, victory-lane donuts, giant slabs o’beef on the grill, and, oh yeah, beer. Mixed in with all of this is plenty of track action, including a Big Wreck and a scene where Offerman, wearing a now-banned Dale Sr.–style open-face helmet, edges out Kevin Harvick for the checkered flag. The music is fast paced, the copy is clever, and Offerman nails every line, including rhyming “Busches” with “tuchus” while maintaining a straight face.”

2000bhp Lambo Crashes Into Lake

” Though Lamborghini has replaced the Gallardo with the new, more powerful Huracan, the old V10 is still no slouch.

No slouch, and therefore, not really in need of a two-thousand-horsepower modification. Yep, this Lamborghini Gallardo has been treated to a pair of twin-turbos strapped onto its V10 to make 2000bhp.

All that power and no extra downforce also means things get… squirmy. Attempting a half-mile pass, the twin-turbo Gallardo loses control at a very high speed, and then veers right, off the track and straight into a lake.

Luckily the driver wasn’t injured in the accident.”

Watch Dodge Prove The Charger Hellcat’s 204 mph Top Speed

” The Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat makes some enormous claims: World’s most powerful, quickest-accelerating, highest-top speed sedan, ever.

It’s not hard to believe the power claims—at 707 horses, the supercharged screamer’s Hemi V8 could arm-wrestle the moon. Somehow, it even manages 22 mpg, though you’d likely have to lash your right foot to the seat frame, like Odysseus passing the Sirens, to achieve that number.

But, c’mon. You don’t instinctively click Hellcat headlines looking to get the EPA’s take. You wanna know if a domestic sedan that’s priced like a midrange Audi with power figures that out-muscle Lamborghini can actually live up to the hype.

Well, according to Dodge, it can—to the tune of 204.55 mph, verified using back-to-back runs in opposite directions per the rules.

Yes, an American family sedan, recognizably similar to the ones populating rental fleets across the country, and priced within reach of folks who don’t decorate their houses with exotic animal furs, will willingly cannonball you and four other humans well and truly past the 200 mph mark.

These are terrifyingly good times to be alive.”

” The Baillon Collection, coming up for auction on February 6th, is just that—a forgotten hoard of gorgeous European cars left for decades under open-sided sheds in southern France. Their owner, shipping magnate Roger Baillon, fell on hard economic times in the 1970s and was never able to build the automotive museum he had worked towards. Instead, his cars became a ghostly testament to the power of neglect. “

Deadly Cincinnati Overpass Collapse Closes SB I-75 Indefinitely

” A construction worker died and a truck driver was hurt when a section of the old northbound Hopple Street exit overpass collapsed during construction onto southbound I-75 late Monday.

” A very tragic scene,” said Cincinnati Police Chief Jeffrey Blackwell. “It appears the workers, while they were on the deck doing the demolition of the bridge, something happened. We are not sure and that is what the investigation will tell us in the coming hours.”

The southbound side of the highway will be shut down indefinitely, creating what police describe as a traffic nightmare as the work week begins following Monday’s federal holiday. “

Dakar Rally: Matt Campbell Survives High-Speed Crash In Desert Race

” A Calgary driver has been released from a South American hospital after he was injured in a spectacular crash Saturday during an off-road rally through the Bolivian desert.

Calgarian Matt Campbell is recovering in a South American hospital after a 174 km/h crash in the Dakar Rally in Bolivia. (elmartilloracing.com)

Matt Campbell, 63, and two teammates were taking part in the legendary Dakar Rally when their vehicle became airborne and flipped several times before coming to a stop.”

” ” The race car was moving at a speed of 174 km/h when suddenly they found the water cut five feet deep.… There was not much to do but hang on and resist the crash. The affectations are quite notable, the car was completely destroyed,” El Martillo Racing said in a statement on their Facebook page.

CBC News spoke to Campbell who says he’s a little stiff and black and blue from head to toe.

Campbell says the rally relies on old fashioned technology instead of GPS systems. The driver relies on their navigator with a paper road book to manually count down the route metre by metre.”

From l to r …  Nicolas “Nico” Ambriz , Luis “Fito” Ramirez & Matt Campbell

” Campbell was behind the wheel at the time of the accident. Reports say the team tried to skim across a stream at high speed when the vehicle’s front end became immersed in the water — sending the car into the catapult.

Campbell is the principal driver for the El Martillo Racing team. The team was sitting in 36th place at the time of the accident. “

How Rich Do You Need To Be To Afford The New Ford GT Supercar?

” At the 2015 Detroit Auto Show, Ford went for the gold – both in honors and price tags.

Its new Ford F-150 won the North American Truck/Utility of the Year award, and the company was runner-up for the North American Car of the year with its Mustang, which lost to the Volkswagen Golf.

But the golden child of the show was the new Ford GT, which had been a mere rumor for months.

The verdict: It was worth the wait – and possibly even the price tag.”

” In time for the 50th anniversary of the original GT40 winning the LeMans races, the new GT is all about flash. The machine has a 600-horsepower EcoBoost V-6 engine and is no gas sipper. The sleek, “futuristic” body is made completely of carbon fiber, which posed a huge engineering challenge. CNET quoted the car’s creator and Ford vice president of design, Moray Callum, as saying, “We wouldn’t have been able to build [this] car 60 years ago. Even 20 years ago.” “

Behold, The World’s First Automatic Supercar

” It’s heresy, I tell you, absolute heresy. As if it’s not enough that a lowly Chevrolet must now be considered a supercar — no “almost” dismissive needed or deserved, thank you very much — even more blasphemous is that said Chevy is at its most “super” when hooked up to an automatic transmission.

The car, not surprisingly, is the latest rendition of Corvette’s topflight Z06. That’s hardly a revelation; if any Chevrolet were to be deemed super, it would have to be the iconic Corvette. But, it is a little more shocking that the transmission in question is not one of those new fangled PDK’ed thing-a-ma-bobs with their fancy dual clutches and pre-selected gear changing mechanisms, but rather a plain, old torque-converted, could-be-in-a-Cadillac slushbox.”

2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06

” Nor is it just in a straight line that GM’s new eight-speed 8L90 autobox is superior to the also available seven-speed manual. Zooming around Spring Mountain Motor Resort’s 2.4-kilometre racetrack, the combination of precise gear selection algorithms and bullet-quick shifting (Jeff Polidan, Chevy’s design systems engineer for the new eight-speed transmission, claims that, at 0.45 seconds, his automatic shifts faster than Porsche’s supposedly-higher-tech PDK) have the autobox shifting gears perfectly. Indeed, so adroit does the 8L90’s computer match gears and revs that the Z06 is quicker, more manageable and indeed more fun left in its fully automatic mode. Use the paddle shifters if you must, but you’ll be slower for it. The 2015 Z06 truly is, in every sense of the word, the first automatic transmission supercar.”

” There’s no doubt the Z06 must finally be deemed a true supercar. The 6.2-litre supercharged V8 boasts 650 horsepower (smack dab between Lamborghini’s Huracan and Aventador), 650 pound-feet of torque (more than either) and, when hooked up to the aforementioned eight-speed autobox, can accelerate to 100 kilometres an hour in just 3.1 seconds (just barely behind the aforementioned Aventador and 0.3 seconds quicker than the manual). The quarter mile arrives in a truly startling 10.95 seconds as long as you’re you’re letting the eight-speed autobox shift itself; a slightly longer 11.2 seconds if you insist on shifting the seven-speed manual yourself.”

Spendy, Special-Edition Snake: Shelby To Offer 50th Anniversary 427 Cobra

” Over five decades ago, when Carroll Shelby wedged a Ford 260 V-8 into an AC Ace, who would’ve thunk the damn-hard-to-kill Shelby would be in the ground, yet new Cobras bearing his name would still be available for sale? Yet they are. A year after Shelby American announced the 50th Anniversary 289 FIA Cobra, 2015 sees the commemorative launch of that car’s bigger, altogether more monstrous brother, the heavily-mythologized 427.

Like the 289 FIA car released last year, the 50th Anniversary Edition 427 Cobra is delivered sans engine. For maximum authenticity, you’ll want to pick up an FE side-oiler displacing — duh — 427 cubic inches and a four-speed Toploader. Alternately, put a boosted-to-Venus EcoBoost in the thing and utterly befuddle the masses. If you’re an extreme weirdo, source an early AC two-liter straight six. We’ll buy dinner for the first character who pulls that move. We’ll also happily proclaim his or her undying supremacy. Alternately, you can purchase the unspecified powertrain package that Shelby’s currently developing for the car.

Pricing, as you’d expect, nudges itself firmly into eye-watering territory. A fiberglass-bodied roller will set you back $119,995. Adding $60k to your bank draft will snare you an aluminum body with a snappy polish job. Fiberglass cars are finished in Guardsman Blue with Wimbledon White stripes, a classically Cobra-esque color scheme even a grump like Destro could appreciate. Special Anniversary-oriented bits include a 23-gallon racing-style tank, fancier interior materials, special gauges, and unique badges.

Shelby is only turning out 50 examples of the Anniversary 427s, so prospective snake-handlers should prepare to shell out the ducats sooner rather than later. The car will say hello in the flesh at Barrett-Jackson’s Scottsdale Auction on January 12th. Orders open the following day, leaving metallic herpetologists plenty of time to turn over the couch and hit the Coinstar machine.”

12 Injured In 35-Car Pileup On I-93 In New Hampshire

” A 35-car pileup on snowy Interstate 93 in New Hampshire on Friday morning left a tractor-trailer in flames, crumpled cars strewn along the roadway and 12 people injured, as snow squalls and ice made driving treacherous.

The crash was reported around 10 a.m. on I-93 North in Ashland, according to the New Hampshire Department of Transportation. New Hampshire State Police Lt. Jerome Maslan said 35 vehicles were involved in two separate pileups, after initial reports that 50 to 100 cars might have been involved.

One of the crashes involved a tractor-trailer that caught fire after a vehicle went underneath it. Aerial footage of the crashes showed boxes strewn about and crumpled cars.”

The Livermore, California-based firm recently announced expanded integration of facial recognition technology into its offerings.”

” ” The new Vigilant Mobile Companion app expands the benefits of license plate recognition and facial recognition technologies to all areas of the agency,” a Vigilant Solutions press release claimed. “Using many of the new analytic tools that Vigilant has released in its Learn product over the last couple of years, the app makes these tools even more easy to use and accessible on a mobile device. The app also features Vigilant’s FaceSearch facial recognition which analyzes over 350 different vectors of the human face.”
