Teen Reels In 1,058-Pound Blue Marlin Off Kona Coast

” It was certainly the catch of the day for a New York City teenager when he “caught the fish of a lifetime,” a 1,058-pound blue marlin, off the Kona coast on Wednesday.

” I would imagine that there’s not very many more things as exhilarating than catching a ‘grander’ in Kona,” said 16-year-old Kai Rizzuto.”

” The gargantuan marlin measured 11 feet from its jaw to tail and took Kai 30 minutes to reel in. “It was a 30-minute fight. I’ll tell you it was the hardest 30 minutes I’ve ever fought a fish,” said Rizzuto. “When I saw that fish at the end of line I was just thinking, don’t break off. Do not break off.” “

New World’s Largest Yacht In The Works

” Better watch your back, (current world’s largest) 590-foot Azzam. Project “Triple Deuce” is coming. And at 728 feet (222 meters), she’s going to send you, and other yachts in your category, into relative obscurity as she swipes your title as the world’s largest yacht.

“ Project Triple Deuce is about to set the world on fire as not only the largest private yacht ever built, coming in at a whopping 222 meters, but also the most expensive, at a cost of over $1 billion USD,” said Craig Timm, yacht broker at 4Yacht, Inc., responsible for selling Project Triple Deuce to his client.

To put this massive yacht in perspective for the layman, the sheer size of Triple Deuce even dwarfs some cruise ships. As an example, Costa Cruises has a ship named Costa Classic that is 722 feet long and carries 1,308 passengers and 590 crewmembers. But Triple Deuce is a private yacht, and is designed to carry only 36 guests in opulent luxury with a crew complement of 90-100.

In addition to being the longest private yacht in the world at 728 feet, the yacht will have a beam of nearly 82 feet, and a draft of nearly 16 feet.

She’ll be no slouch in the speed department either, with top speed projected to be in excess of 30 knots—to be achieved by triple gas turbine engines generating over 100,000 horsepower. The yacht also has no rudders. Electric podded propulsion units will handle maneuvering.

4Yacht Inc Project

Owner and guests will live like royalty

The owner’s suite, at 2,960 square feet (275 square meters) over two stories, will encompass nearly one full deck of space in the seven-deck yacht, and offer unparalleled views. It will feature two staterooms, and will include private access to a helipad and an elevator from an exclusive drive-in dock, as well as all the luxury amenities you would come to expect. The owner’s suite also offers a private gym, office and study, private dining area, butler’s stateroom and more.

Onboard guests will be similarly pampered in four VIP suites of 968 square feet (90 square meters) apiece, and 12 guest suites, each at over 645 square feet (60 square meters). All guests will have access to the yacht’s two pools, one indoor, one outdoor, multiple Jacuzzis, spa facilities, full time masseuse, hair stylist and barber, as well as all the water toys the yacht can carry.

Who Would Buy A Yacht Of This Size?

“ It takes a person of vision, someone with a dream to own the worlds largest yacht and to bring it to reality,” claims Timm. “For several years, we have advertised the sale of a 200-meter yacht and have worked with several UHNWI as well as several Middle Eastern clients toward the goal of building a yacht of this size. We had many discussions with our buyer that a yacht of 200 meters was of sufficient length, however with the launching of Azzam recently at 180 meters, that all changed.

“ What our client was concerned about is that if we built the yacht to 200 meters, then someone would come along like Roman Abramovich when he built Eclipse at 163.5 meters, to barely ‘eclipse’ Sheikh Maktoum’s yacht, the 162-meter Dubai, by only 1.5 meters,” said Timm. “By building the yacht to 222 meters, he wants to make it difficult, if not impossible, to be ‘eclipsed’ himself.”

According to Timm, construction of Project Triple Deuce will begin at a European shipyard, which has still yet to be decided, in the next 6-12 months, with a target delivery date of spring 2018. He goes on to say that the yacht will be built under the 100 A1 Passenger Ship Classification and be fully PYC (Passenger Yacht Code) Compliant.

What will it all cost?

Current large superyachts run about €3.5 million to €4 million per meter to build at the best European shipyards.

Doing some quick math, it seems that Project Deuce will cost €777 million to €888 million, or at the current USD exchange rate, $1.1 billion to $1.2 billion.

“ Don’t forget to add in annual operating costs,” Timm said. “On a yacht of this size, it will run the owner an additional $20-$35 million USD per year.”

Much like the race to build the tallest buildings in the world, such as the Shanghai Tower at 632 meters (2073′), or the Burj Khalifa at 828 meters (2717′), super yachts will continue to expand their size depending on who needs to have the biggest and best yacht.

How Long Will Project Triple Deuce Hold Its Position As The World’s Largest Yacht?

“ That’s hard to determine, as there is a limit, not in size, but functionality and logistics,” Timm said.  “We haven’t gotten there yet, but if the uber wealthy of the world have their way, Project Triple Deuce will be toppled in the future. How soon? That will be anybody’s guess.” “

Enactment Of This Law Will Set A Dangerous Precedent … Sign The Petition Now

Anchorage Petition

” Florida is attempting to appease wealthy waterfront homeowners by permitting local municipalities to create ordinances that would ban anchoring anywhere near private residences and in particular, anchoring overnight for cruising boaters. The manner in which these ordinances could be written could actually effectively ban anchoring in large parts of Florida.

Florida state politicians are attempting to circumvent the entire FWC Anchoring/Mooring Pilot Program by allowing any municipality not participating in the program to determine any minimum distance boaters can anchor from every private residence.

Passage of an amendment such as this would not only make knowing where in Florida overnight anchoring is allowed an impossible task, but could effectively eliminate legal anchoring in nearly all of the state.
If you wish more information on this topic, you can view excellent articles at practicalsailor.com waterwayguide.com and at sailmagazine.com

Why should this matter to you? Because, laws enacted in Florida are being considered by waterfront communities as far away as Ontario Canada, even Australia and other overseas countries, and in all of the coastal states of the United States, including the Great Lakes.

These laws, if enacted, will create a precedent that could negatively affect your rights to enjoy the waters of your state or province. We need you to speak out and protect boaters’ and the public’s rights to use the waters of Florida.

Please help us now, so that we don’t have to help you later when this comes to your town.”

Neither of the women kayaking was injured in the attack. Officials say the women, who are in their mid-20s, were trying to take pictures of the seals at the time.”

25 Great Center-Console Boats Over 30 Feet

” This is the age of the super-sized center console. Based on big, beamy hulls and boasting plenty of power – usually in the form of multiple V-6 or V-8 outboards – these offshore fishing machines are suitable for a wide range of angling pursuits – from sailfish to swordfish, kingfish to cobia, tuna to tarpon and more.

What defines a big center-console fishing boat? We think 30-something-plus feet LOA (length overall) serves as the benchmark, though today you’ll certainly find multiple boats over 40 feet in this genre. And there are some spectacular models – not just because of their size, but also because of their great designs, features and style.

We’ve scoured the market to find today’s top models, great center-console boats that have earned the respect of serious offshore anglers. So if you are looking for a new blue-water boat, start your search here with 25 Great Center-Console Boats Over 30 Feet. (Listed alphabetically by manufacturer.)

” The EdgeWater 318CC continues to be a favorite among saltwater anglers. This center-console boat’s 10-foot, 2-inch beam offers plenty of fishing space for you and your crew without feeling crowded. The unsinkable design of EdgeWater’s SPI (Single Piece Infusion) all-composite construction enables a safer, stronger and well-performing hull.

The outboard-powered 318CC features a 28-gallon livewell and two fish lockers – one forward and one aft that can double as a livewell. It also offers tackle storage in the leaning post and rod holders aplenty. Rated for 700 hp and boasting 300-gallon fuel capacity, the 318CC has the power and range to fish far offshore and return you safely.”

Biggest Sport Fishing Boats Ever Made

Viking 92 Convertible

” The largest Viking to date in its 50-year history is its new 92 Convertible.

It launches late summer 2014. The first boat will be an enclosed-bridge model, and this will be followed by open-bridge versions. The project was handled by Viking from design, the building of the molds in-house with the aid of a pair of five-axis profiling milling machines and all of the construction aspects.

The 23-foot beam not only opens the salon, but transforms into a living room with built-in furniture and appointments like a 60-inch flat screen television that rises on a lift out of the teak cabinetry. An L-shape island in the galley complements the work area and all countertops feature custom-selected granite. A pair of walk-in pantries and a full day head are forward and characterize an excellent use of space. Nearby, a formal dining area accommodates eight guests.”

If Viking is not your cup of tea , how about a Hatteras ?

hatteras

Hatteras 90′

” Hatteras’ largest sport-fishing boat is the 90C. The boat was built in 1995, with the first boat delivered in 1996. This was a series of convertibles Hatteras produced at the time, the first one was in 1992, which was an 82C.

There were a total of 23 boats from the series built and sold from 1992-1998. At the time, it had largest diesel engines on a sport-fishing boat — the Deutz 16v-620 engine with 2,900 break hp.

Another unique feature of the 90C is that Hatteras built a bridge upon a bridge, meaning a flybridge on top of an enclosed bridge. There was only one like this built in its fleet.

The biggest challenge with the build process was the draft of the boat due to the large horsepower. Hatteras Engineering and Michigan Wheel designed a hybrid propeller specific for this model.

Of course the comparison above is not quite fair as the Viking 92′ is a current production boat while Hatteras , at present , “only” makes sportfish up to 77′ in length … see below .

Who could forget those terrors of the inland seas , the jet-skiers …

Last but not least another collection of epic boating fails , some funny , some not so funny , as a reminder of the seriousness of our chosen hobby .

Well that will do it for now . We searched for some kayaking fails but they were all more on the serious side and so were found to be not it keeping with the humorous nature of our post . Hope you enjoyed this compilation and here’s to warmer weather .

” An emaciated man whose boat washed up on a remote Pacific atoll this week claims he survived 16 months adrift in the Pacific, floating more than 8,000 miles from Mexico.

The man, with long hair and beard, was discovered on Thursday when his 24ft (7.3m) fibreglass boat with propellerless engines floated on to the reef at Ebon atoll and he was spotted by two locals.”

” ” His condition isn’t good but he’s getting better,” said Ola Fjeldstad, a Norwegian anthropology student doing research on Ebon, the southern most outpost of the Marshall Islands. “The boat is really scratched up and looks like it has been in the water for a long time.”

Fjeldstad said the man, dressed only in a pair of ragged underpants, claimed he left Mexico for El Salvador in September 2012 with a companion who died at sea several months ago. Details of his survival were sketchy, Fjeldstad added, as the man spoke only Spanish, but he said his name was Jose Ivan.”
