Top 10 Health Benefits Of Going To A Shooting Range

” Whether you’re preparing for the military or police academy or just out for a recreational activity, going to a shooting range can be a stress-relieving adventure. Believe it or not, the benefits of participating in shooting sports can improve your health both physically and mentally.

Here are the top 10 health benefits of going to a shooting range:

Builds physical discipline: In an age of the “couch potato,” this sport can help build many physical disciplines that are not only healthy but enjoyable. Increased strength, stamina, hand-eye coordination, and fine motor skills are just a few of the physical disciplines acquired in the shooting sports that apply, not only to this sport, but to all of life.

Arm strength: Shooting a gun requires strong, sturdy arms and hands; in order to aim and shoot your target you must keep your hands and arms steady.

Focus: Keeping your eyes on the target while aiming a gun requires a lot of focus. Removing your mind from any other activities, you find yourself in the present moment in which there is only one thing at hand to do, and it straight in front of you.

Eyesight: Practicing your shooting can’t fix any eye deficiencies, but it can exercise the eye capabilities that you already have. By giving your eyes a break from staring at computers, TVs, phones and tablets, you will be relieving this eye stress.”

The Real Side Effect Of A Gluten-Free Diet: Scientific Illiteracy

GLUTEN LIE

” Walk into any grocery store or coffee shop and you’ll find gluten-free muffins, gluten-free chips, and gluten-free bread. Gluten has replaced fat as the ingredient we love to shun.

And yet, scientists can’t find any good evidence to support this fad. Gluten is a protein composite that gives shape to grains like wheat, rye, and barley. And it’s true that a very small fraction of people have celiac disease, a real medical condition that causes their bodies to violently reject gluten. But that’s only a small fraction of people, and it’s not enough to explain the craze. The rest of us are going gluten-free without any real scientific basis for doing so.

It’s exactly because the gluten-free diet has surged in popularity recently, despite the science, that Alan Jay Levinovitz, a professor of philosophy and religion at James Madison University, became fascinated by it. I talked to him about his new book, The Gluten Lie, to better understand why we’ve gone against this grain to the tune of more than $10 billion this year. “

Researchers Believe A Biological Revolution Enabling Humans To Experience Everlasting Youthfulness Is Coming

” It is likely the first person who will live to be 1,000 years old is already alive today.

This is according to a growing regiment of researchers who believe a biological revolution enabling humans to experience everlasting youthfulness is just around the corner.

At the epicentre of the research is Aubrey de Grey — a Cambridge gerontologist and co-founder or the California-based Strategies for Engineered Negligible Senescence(SENS) Research Foundation.

“ The first thing I want to do is get rid of the use of this word immortality, because it’s enormously damaging, it is not just wrong, it is damaging,” he told Motherboard.

“ It means zero risk of death from any cause — whereas I just work on one particular cause of death, namely aging.” “

New Playground Safety Requirements Are Absurd

” A combination of government regulations and free market innovation has created playgrounds that are incredibly safe for kids… except if they die of boredom. All the fun stuff is gone, but boy is what’s left non-lethal!”

” The CDC reports that in the 10 years from 1990 to 2000, there were just 31 deaths from playground falls, and 70 percent of these were at playgrounds in someone’s backyard. This means that on public playgrounds, there was an average of about one death per year from falling. With about 40,000,000 kids in America under age 10, that means the chances of a child dying or seriously hurting himself in a playground fall are infinitesimal.”

” Nevertheless, the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) has proposed new standards that would revamp the surfacing materials on playgrounds. ASTM’s stated mission is to prevent concussions and head injuries. But with the chances of these accidents already so low, you have to wonder about their true intentions.”

There are no slides , no swings and no seesaws left thanks to this insane pursuit of safety uber alles by the do-gooders of society and yet they are still not content ? What is left to take away from the kids ? More importantly , one wonders how much of this over-regulation of our lives results from a real desire to save lives and how much of the Nanny State is driven by lawyers and the fear of liability ?

Study: Fast-Food Curb Did Not Cut Obesity Rate In South LA

” A much-hailed law that restricted the opening of new stand-alone fast-food restaurants in one of the poorest sections of Los Angeles did not curb obesity or improve diets, a new study found.

City lawmakers passed the zoning ordinance in 2008 that limited the opening or expansion of fast-food outlets in a 32-square-mile area south of Interstate 10 that struggles with high obesity rates and other health problems.

The law, believed to be the first effort of its kind by a major city to improve public health, did not ban new eateries in strip malls.

The research by the Rand Corp. think tank found that obesity rates in South Los Angeles continued to rise after passage of the law.

It had no meaningful effect,” Rand senior economist Roland Sturm said. “There’s no evidence that diets have improved more in South LA. Obesity and overweight rates have not fallen.” “

The money quote:

Before the fast-food ordinance, 63 percent of South Los Angeles residents reported being overweight or obese compared to 57 percent in other parts of the county. Three years after the ordinance went into effect, 75 percent of South Los Angeles residents reported being overweight or obese compared to 58 percent in other parts of the county.”

Tuberculosis Infects 27 At Kansas City Area High School

” Nearly 30 people have tested positive for tuberculosis at a Kansas City-area high school, officials confirmed Wednesday.

That’s about 10 percent of the 300 tested after one person tested positive at Olathe Northwest High School last week, KSHB reports. Officials have not confirmed who may have been the original carrier of the disease.

Tuberculosis is an airborne bacteria that usually attacks the lungs. It’s typically spread when a person coughs, sneezes, speaks or sings, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.”

The reader must scroll way down to get to the heart of the matter:

Mentally Ill Man Killed In Altercation With Miami Gardens Police

Lavall Hall

” A 25-year-old mentally ill man is dead after getting into an altercation with police officers early Sunday morning.

Miami Gardens police said officers were called to a home regarding a violent, mentally disturbed man. When officers arrived, the man — identified as Lavall Hall — would not comply with their instructions and engaged in a physical altercation with some sort of object, police said.

Witnesses described the object as a broom.

As a result, Hall was shot and died at the scene, police said.

” All I want is justice,” Hall’s mother, Catherine Daniels Brown, told Local 10 News. She said she called police after feeling threatened by Hall.

” If I (knew) they (were) going to kill my child, I would have never, ever called them,” she said.

Hall had recently been released from a mental health facility. Brown said police should have known about his mental illness as they had been called to his home before.”

Isn’t it so much better that the mentally ill are free to roam the streets and be killed by the police instead of them being institutionalized and getting the help they need as was the case years ago before the do-gooders “set them free” . Idaho Mumps Outbreak Expands To Washington State

” An outbreak of mumps that began in September 2014 among students at the Moscow campus of the University of Idaho continues to spread outside the Moscow area. Idaho has 21 reported confirmed and probable cases, including six in the Boise area, as of Friday, Feb. 6. Two cases in Washington also are associated with this outbreak.

Mumps is a contagious virus that spreads from person-to-person via droplets of saliva or mucus from the mouth, nose, or throat of an infected person, usually when the person coughs, sneezes, or talks. An infected person can spread the virus before being sick. The virus is also spread when someone with mumps touches items or surfaces without washing their hands, and then someone else touches the same item or surface and rubs their mouth or nose.”

First the measles , now mumps … how is it that all of these virtually eradicated diseases from our childhood are reappearing in the age of Obama ?

This , from the comments says it all:

” John Gardner

Geeze. Measles. Now mumps. Its almost like we’ve recently had an influx of unvaccinated people from overseas and deliberately spread them all over the country … Oh! Wait ….. never mind.”

Anybody Care To Guess How America Continues To Suffer From Previously “Eradicated” Diseases ?

The CDC has provided us with the answer to the above question and we are certain that it comes as no surprise to readers not blinded by political correctness . We quote from the CDC’s Measles FAQ page:

” Q: Has measles been eliminated from the United States?

A: Yes. In 2000, the United States declared that measles was eliminated from this country. The United States was able to eliminate measles because it has a highly effective measles vaccine, a strong vaccination program that achieves high vaccine coverage in children and a strong public health system for detecting and responding to measles cases and outbreaks.

Q: What does “measles elimination” mean?

A:Measles elimination is defined as the absence of continuous disease transmission for 12 months or more in a specific geographic area. Measles is no longer endemic (constantly present) in the United States.

Q: If measles is eliminated, why do people still get it in the United States?

A: Every year, measles is brought into the United States by unvaccinated travelers (Americans or foreign visitors) who get measles while they are in other countries. They can spread measles to other people who are not protected against measles, which sometimes leads to outbreaks. This can occur in communities with unvaccinated people.

Most people in the United States are protected against measles through vaccination, so measles cases in the U.S. are uncommon compared to the number of cases before a vaccine was available. Since 2000, when measles was declared eliminated from the U.S., the annual number of people reported to have measles ranged from a low of 37 people in 2004 to a high of 644 people in 2014. “

The rest of the CDC FAQ may be viewed here .

To us it is inconceivable that a massive influx of unscreened , unvaccinated illegal aliens does not play a significant role in the spread of infectious disease , especially when one takes note of the fact that these illnesses always seem to rear their heads in urban schools where the illegal population is highest .

Our leaders have nothing to fear though , there are damn few illegals attending their children’s fancy private schools .

Your Personality Could Influence How You Fight Disease

” When you break it down, personality can be defined as a collection of distinct psychological traits which remain fairly constant over time and therefore shape the way we react to the world around us. These traits include extroversion/introversion (how sociable we are), neuroticism (the tendency towards negativity) and conscientiousness (which includes how cautious we are and how carefully we plan). We all know where we fall on these various scales and how it impacts our friendship circle, the way we perform our jobs and even how we cope with adversity — but can it actually affect our health?

In a recent study, Kavita Vadhara and colleagues correlated different personality traits with biological immune responses — that is, how geared up our body is to deal with threats to our immune system. And the results of their research led to some interesting insights into how personality type may affect our immune system.

The team asked 121 healthy students to complete personality questionnaires to assess, among other traits, extroversion, neuroticism and conscientiousness. They also took blood samples and from these they investigated the activity of 19 different genes involved in inflammatory immune response, as well as genes involved in defense against viruses. “

Wife Chops Off Cheating Husband’s Penis, Twice

” A jealous wife in China chopped off her cheating husband’s penis as he slept, then snuck into his hospital room after he had it sewn back on — and hacked it off again and tossed it out the window.

Fan Lung, a dad of five, sealed his fate when he decided to use his wife’s cellphone to send his secret lover a hot and heavy email, Central European News reports.

The 32-year-old forgot to log out of his account after the message was sent, which is how his 21-year-old wife, Feng — who is now under arrest for grievous bodily harm — came across the saucy exchange and snapped.

The jilted wife went berserk, grabbed a pair of scissors, stormed into their bedroom and cut off his penis while he was sleeping.”

The woman’s second attempt was much more successful …

” Lung was rushed to the hospital, where doctors were able to save the appendage and sew it back on.

But Feng was able to sneak into the recovery room, where she chopped his penis off a second time and threw it out the window, according to CEN.

Despite desperate search efforts, authorities were unable to find Lung’s manhood. Police believe it may have been stumbled upon by a stray dog or cat, according to CEN.”

At Least 69 In Mozambique Are Dead After Drinking ‘Poisoned’ Beer. Is Crocodile Bile To Blame?

” At least 69 people who drank a homemade beer at a funeral in Mozambique over the weekend have died, health officials have announced. Authorities believe that the beer, a traditional millet-based brew called pombe, was poisoned during the course of the funeral.

In addition to those who died, at least 169 people remain hospitalized, according to health officials. “As we prepared to determine the cause of death of people we began to receive a lot of people with diarrhea and other muscle aches. After that we began to receive dead bodies from several neighborhoods,” Paula Bernardo, a local health official in the country, told a state-run radio station in Mozambique.

Officials believe that the brew was poisoned some time during the daylong funeral. Those who drank the brew only in the morning had no signs of illness, the Associated Press reported. But those who drank in the afternoon were sick by the next morning. The woman who brewed the beer was among the casualties, they reported.”

What Food Banks Need Most (And What They Get Too Much Of)

what food banks need most

” Is there a food drive going on near you? Every day for the last week, our kindergartener has loaded up her purple backpack with groceries for her class’s food drive. Boxes of whole-grain pasta and jars of tomato sauce, brownie mix and canola oil, all easier-to-make versions of meals I regularly fix for our family. But I got to thinking, are these really the most useful things to donate?

When we lived in Rome, there was an immigrant woman who used to sit on a plastic crate outside the grocery store. She wore a shawl around her shoulders and scarf on her head. Sometimes her daughter would be there too, a girl about eight years old with long dark hair. Almost always I’d be pushing our big blue double stroller, two apple-cheeked American toddlers in tow. Almost the woman or child would ask for food, pleading in Italian.

Yes, I’d nod. I’ll help. At least I’ll try.

Not speaking Italian well enough to understand the details of their situation, not to mention the complexities of the Italian social system, I’d do what I thought was best. Pick up a few things they could eat right then, plus a few dinner items to take home. Ready-made sandwiches, bottles of milk, string cheeses and fruit. For later, pasta (it was Italy after all), tomatoes, maybe a sliver of Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese, the good stuff. It was the best I could do without knowing anything about them. Did they have electricity? Any food allergies? I’ll never know.

But now we’re in North Carolina and I can do more. A lot more. Today I spoke with two sources, the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina plus two staffers at The Salvation Army food bank in Durham. Here’s what I learned.

WHO GOES TO A FOOD BANK

Picture a homeless man, an elderly woman or a single mom with three kids but not just babies: a toddler, a second grader and a fourteen-year-old. Maybe they live in an apartment and receive food stamps on a monthly basis, maybe it’s about $200 worth. With food stamps, there are restrictions on what they can buy at the store and almost always, they’ll run out anyway. That’s why they’re at the food bank. The electricity may have just been turned off. There might not be water. Or maybe there’s no apartment at all. Many are in crisis, living in hotels or on the street.

WHAT FOOD BANKS NEED MOST (AND WHAT THEY GET TOO MUCH OF)

Storage space is often in short supply at food banks, so prioritization is key.

  1. Canned meats: Think beyond tuna & soup, which food banks get tons of. Instead go for canned beef, canned ham, canned chicken, canned salmon. Or hearty ready-to-go meals like beef stew and chili with meat.
  2. Canned vegetables: Everyone donates green beans. Instead, give potatoes, carrots, spinach, peas or any other veggies your family likes.
  3. Canned fruit: Not pineapple. This is the most commonly donated fruit. Any other fruit, particularly those in fruit juice without extra sugar, would be great. Dried fruit works too (raisins, etc.)
  4. Boxes of rice (bags can tear)
  5. Low-sugar cereal like plain Cheerios or Raisin Bran
  6. Peanut butter
  7. Instant oatmeal, instant grits
  8. Cans of beans
  9. Pasta, pasta sauce
  10. Biscuit mix, or any mix you only add water to
  11. Cans, cartons or boxes of powered and evaporated milk
  12. Snack items for kids to take to school: juice boxes, applesauce containers, granola bars
  13. Diapers in sizes above newborn, plus wipes
  14. Toiletries: toothbrushes, soap, toothpaste, lotion, shampoo & conditioner, Chapstick (consider someone living outside this time of year)
  15. Feminine hygiene products: unscented pads will be most universally used, not tampons
  16. Spices like cinnamon, oregano, basil, salt, pepper
  17. Sliced bread. It’s got a long shelf life but always goes immediately.
  18. Bags of apples or potatoes. Ditto.
  19. Chocolate. It’s not a necessity but just a pick-me-up that I would sure appreciate, especially when it comes time to fill stockings.
  20. Consider donating reusable shopping bags. It takes a lot of humility for people to come to a food bank and since they’ll likely be walking home or taking public transportation, it’s nice to at least blend in.

WHAT I DIDN’T REALIZE ABOUT FOOD BANKS

  • A lot of people have diabetes in this group. Consider low-sugar dietary restrictions.
  • Some food banks have a recording (or a live person) who will explain their top needs of the moment by phone.
  • Cans and boxes are sturdier than bags. By the time families are receiving the food, it’s been handled A LOT and packaging needs to be strong enough to hold up. One food bank said never bring anything in glass, ever.
  • Pop-top cans are ideal; particularly for those living on the streets.
  • Think about weekends and school breaks. Kids who qualify for free lunches typically receive breakfast at school too and when schools are out for holidays or summer, these families need more support.
  • Many families are in crisis at this time in their lives and food banks often work in tandem with churches or other non-profit programs to get them back on their feet. The Salvation Army in Durham, for example, coordinates with First Baptist Church’s “Jobs for Life” program. Recipients get interview training and in some cases, a ride to the mall where they’re coached on asking for job applications.

These are the top priorities for the food banks I spoke with in my area. But there are still plenty of other things to give–and keep in mind what’s needed here might vary from your area, and definitely from season to season. “

These Are The Most Stressed ZIP Codes In America

” How’s your day at work going? Well, we hope it’s not too bad, considering how stressful things can be nowadays. Bills to pay, rent that’s due, long commutes…it’s enough to make you want to tear your hair out. Could things really be any worse?

As it turns out, yes, it could be much worse. Don’t believe us? Well, here at the Movoto Real Estate Blog, we tend to be pretty good at making lists, and it doesn’t stress us out too much, so, we decided to make a list of the absolute most stressful ZIP codes to call home. Some of them will probably be a bit surprising.

The most stressed ZIP codes in the nation were:

1. 44093, Williamsfield, OH
2. 38647, Michigan City, MS
3. 93640, Mendota, CA
4. 36776, Sawyerville, AL
5. 38617, Coahoma, MS

Now, you’re probably thinking that there’s no possible way that some little place in Ohio is more stressed out than your home ZIP. To find out how we got these results, just head down to the very next section, where we talk about our methods. If you’re curious about the 50 most stressed out spots, you can check the chart at the bottom and see if your home ranked. “

Breakthrough Stroke Treatment A Game-Changer For Sufferers

” Stroke is a leading cause of death in the U.S., killing 130,000 Americans each year — one of every 19 deaths, federal statistics show. One reason: Conventional treatments involving clot-busting drugs are only effective when given within three hours of a stroke’s onset, so most sufferers never make it to the hospital in time.

But a revolutionary new procedure is giving stroke victims new hope and help, as Newsmax TV’s “Meet The Doctors” reports this week.” It’s called a thrombectomy, and the procedure essentially involves vacuuming out blood clots that form in the brain causing strokes, blocking blood flow and leading to disability and death.

Imran Chaudry. M.D., with the Medical University of South Carolina Medical Center, explains that with a thrombectomy, patients can benefit even 12 hours after suffering a stroke, and perhaps longer. Although the procedure is still considered experimental, studies are underway to refine the technique and establish its safety and effectiveness — research that could lead the Food and Drug Administration to approve it as a front-line stroke therapy. “

Green Menace: Wind Turbines Deemed A ‘Human Health Hazard’

” For years, President Obama has exploited public concern over “climate change” in order to wage a brutal campaign of genocide against our nation’s birds. Wind turbines have been turned into highly efficient killing machines, mowing down bald eagles in grisly fashion, dozens at a time. A new finding by science suggests that humans may be next.

Health officials in Brown County, Wisconsin have declared a local industrial wind farm to be a “human health hazard,” following a four-year investigation in health complaints from area residents.

Jay Tibbetts, a physician and a member of the Brown County Board of Health, said the board did not come to its decision lightly. “We have 80 people on record who have made health complaints, including a nurse who is going deaf,” Tibbets said. “We can’t just ignore this.”

The Brown County health code defines a human health hazard as “a substance, activity or condition that is known to have the potential to cause acute or chronic illness or death if exposure to the substance, activity or condition is not abated.” [emphasis added]

The ruling is bad news for Duke Energy, the company that owns and operates the wind farm. Not surprisingly, Duke Energy has close ties to the Obama administration and the Democratic Party. In 2012, the company provided a $10 million loan to the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, which was never repaid. “

Obama’s Border Policy Fueled Epidemic, Evidence Shows

EV-D68 Spread

” The deadly EV-D68 enterovirus epidemic, which struck thousands of kids this fall, was likely propelled through America by President Barack Obama’s decision to allow tens of thousands of Central Americans across the Texas border, according to a growing body of genetic and statistical evidence.

The evidence includes admissions from top health officials that the epidemic included multiple strains of the virus, and that it appeared simultaneously in multiple independent locations.

The question can be settled if federal researchers study the genetic fingerprint of the EV-D68 viruses that first hit kids in Colorado, Missouri and Illinois to see if they are close relatives to the EV-D68 viruses found in Central America.”

So far, that virus has been found in nine American kids who died from illness, has apparently inflicted unprecedented polio-like paralysis in roughly 50 kids, and has put hundreds of young American kids into hospital emergency wards and intensive care units throughout more than 40 states.”

DC Caller has more as do we , here , here , here and here . At least five nine American children have died from this failure to protect our borders and our citizens , all for the sake of a “permanent democratic majority” . Remember that on Tuesday as you cast your ballots .

And if the fear of your child contracting EV-D68 isn’t enough , keep in your mind what CDC director Thomas Friedan said about the pointlessness of airport screening for Ebola as long as the border remains wide open .
