Federal Prosecutors Accuse Two Delta Employees Of Gun Trafficking

” Federal prosecutors accused a Delta Air Lines Inc. baggage handler and a former employee of the carrier of ferrying guns aboard a passenger flight as part of a larger gun-trafficking operation between Atlanta and New York.

The accused employee, Eugene Harvey of Atlanta, was arrested without incident on Saturday and made an initial appearance in front of a U.S. Magistrate Judge in Atlanta on Monday, said Federal Bureau of Investigation Special Agent Stephen Emmett. Mr. Harvey’s alleged accomplice, Mark Quentin Henry, was arrested earlier this month.

Mr. Henry told investigators that he had traveled on a Delta flight on Dec. 10 from Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport to New York’s Kennedy Airport carrying 18 handguns, seven of which were loaded, in his carry-on backpack, according to a criminal complaint filed on Friday in U.S. District Court in Atlanta against Mr. Harvey. The complaint alleges Mr. Henry was assisted by Mr. Harvey, who worked inside a secure baggage transfer room at Hartsfield-Jackson and had a special badge and a unique access code to gain entry to the area.

An FBI affidavit in support of Mr. Harvey’s arrest warrant alleged that Mr. Henry, who it said is a convicted felon, supplied 129 handguns of various makes and models, and two assault rifles, to another co-conspirator, who sold them to a New York undercover agent. This activity allegedly occurred from May 1 through Dec. 10, according to an investigation led by the New York Police Department described in the complaint. “

Arrests Made When Pumpkin Festival Turns To Mayhem

” Disturbances lasted until early Sunday near Keene State College after an annual pumpkin festival erupted into mayhem and led to arrests, injuries and police in riot gear using tear gas.

Keene State student Ellery Murray told The Boston Globe that she was at a party Saturday that had drawn a large crowd when people started throwing things. She said police responded in riot gear and used tear gas to break up the crowd.

” People were just throwing everything they could find — rocks, skateboards, buckets, pumpkins,” she said. “People just got too drunk.”

The parties around the school were part of the annual Keene Pumpkin Festival, where the community tries to set a world record of the largest number of carved and lighted jack-o-lanterns in one place.”

80 From N.Y. Police And Fire Forces Are Charged In Social Security Fraud

” Eighty retired New York City police officers and firefighters were charged on Tuesday in one of the largest Social Security disability frauds ever, a sprawling decades-long scheme in which false mental disability claims by as many as 1,000 people cost taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars, according to court papers.

Scores of those charged in the case essentially stole in plain sight, according to a 205-count indictment and a bail letter, collecting between $30,000 and $50,000 a year based on fabricated claims that they were completely incapacitated by serious psychiatric disorders. Many said that their actions in response to the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks were responsible for their psychiatric conditions, such as post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety or depression.

But their Facebook pages and other websites, according to the court papers, tell a starkly different story.

The bail letter includes photographs culled from the Internet that show one riding a jet ski and others working at jobs ranging from helicopter pilot to martial arts instructor. One is shown fishing off the coast of Costa Rica and another sitting astride a motorcycle, while another appeared in a television news story selling cannoli at the Feast of San Gennaro on Mulberry Street in Manhattan.”

” Young Mexican drug cartel members are flaunting their wealth on Facebook and Twitter, giving investigators important clues about their movements and contacts.

Last week, police in the Netherlands arrested Jose Rodrigo Arechiga Gamboa, an enforcer for the Sinaloa cartel, after he arrived at Schiphol airport on a flight from Mexico under an assumed name.

Arechiga’s Twitter tag is “El Chino Anthrax”, named after the deadly disease, and believed to refer to a method of disposing of opponents.

He is now in Dutch jail awaiting extradition to the United States, where he is wanted on drug trafficking charges.

On the social networking site, Gamboa has posted a picture of a Lamborghini with a rifle poking from its window, and experts believe that his online activity may have helped law enforcement officials pin him down.”

Walmart Shelves In Springhill, Mansfield, Cleared In EBT Glitch

Another photo from the Springhill Walmart store shows carts overflowing with food, reportedly left abandoned after balances started showing up again on customers' EBT cards.

” Shelves in Walmart stores in Springhill and Mansfield, LA were reportedly cleared Saturday night, when the stores allowed purchases on EBT cards even though they were not showing limits.

The chaos that followed ultimately required intervention from local police, and left behind numerous carts filled to overflowing, apparently abandoned when the glitch-spurred shopping frenzy ended.

Springhill Police Chief Will Lynd confirms they were called in to help the employees at Walmart because there were so many people clearing off the shelves. He says Walmart was so packed, “It was worse than any black Friday” that he’s ever seen.

Lynd explained the cards weren’t showing limits and they called corporate Walmart, whose spokesman  said to let the people use the cards anyway. From 7 to 9 p.m., people were loading up their carts, but when the cards began showing limits again around 9, one woman was detained because she rang up a bill of $700.00 and only had .49 on her card. She was held by police until corporate Walmart said they wouldn’t press charges if she left the food. “

Nevada Family Says Police Occupation of Homes Violated the Third Amendment

” You don’t often hear about lawsuits based on the Third Amendment, the one that says “no soldier shall in time of peace be quartered in any house without the consent of the owner, nor in time of war but in a manner to be prescribed by law.” That usually overlooked provision is cited in a federal lawsuit recently filed by Anthony Mitchell and his parents, Michael and Linda Mitchell—an oddity for which we can thank the Henderson, Nevada, police department.

The Mitchells, who live in separate houses near each other in the Las Vegas suburb, were forcibly evicted from their homes on July 10, 2011, by police officers responding to a domestic violence report involving one of their neighbors. Here is how it all started, according to the complaint:”
