New Jersey Bill Is Outright Gun Ban On .22-Caliber Rifles And Leads To Confiscation

By newly proposed NJ law this is now an “assault” rifle … slippery slope ? Nah

” New Jersey has become ground zero this year for legislative battles over gun control.

The Brady Campaign ranked the state third in the nation for most restrictive firearms laws, yet anti-gun Democrats who control the legislature are determined to go all the way to gun bans and confiscation.

The New Jersey Assembly’s Law and Public Safety Committee was scheduled to hold a public hearing on Monday (postponed for snow) about a bill that reduces the maximum magazine capacity from 15 to 10.

Since the legislation covers both detachable and fixed magazines, it has the effect of to banning popular, low-caliber rifles.

The Association of New Jersey Rifle and Pistol Clubs gave the draft legislation to top firearms experts in the country to determine what guns would fall under the expanded ban.

They discovered that the bill would affect tube-fed, semi-automatic rifles because the magazine cannot be separated from the gun.

Thus, the experts found that at least 43 common rifles would suddenly be considered a prohibited “assault firearm,” such as the .22 caliber Marlin Model 60, Remington Nylon 66 and Winchester 190.

Just having one such gun would turn a law-abiding owner into a felon overnight.”

Emily Miller has more . From a state that banned certain pellet rifles this should come as little surprise . I guess the feeling among NJ pols is that their constituents are as corrupt as their leaders .

Crime Study: Handguns, Not ‘Assault Rifles,’ Used In Most Mass Shootings

” Media hype about mass shootings in America has fostered a myth that the killings are on the rise and that an assault weapon ban, expanded background checks and greater attention to the mentally ill will curb a rampaging epidemic, according to an authoritative and exhaustive study by a noted criminologist.

Instead, according to James Alan Fox, author and criminology professor at Northeastern University, mass shootings have remained stagnant over 34 years, averaging 20 a year, and few were committed by the type of berserk psychos portrayed by the media.

Public discourse is grounded in myth and misunderstanding about the nature of the offense and those who perpetrate it,” he writes in the journal “Homicide Studies.” He added: “Without minimizing the pain and suffering of the hundreds of those who have been victimized in recent attacks, the facts clearly say that there has been no increase in mass shootings and certainly no epidemic.”

The study debunks several proposals aired from President Obama, Vice President Joe Biden and Senate Democrats after the December 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting aimed at stopping mass killings. While he said any plan is worth trying, he concluded that short of abolishing the Second Amendment, there is little that can be done.

Mass murder just may be a price we pay for living in a society where personal freedom is so highly valued,” he wrote in the study coauthored Northeastern criminology student Monica DeLateur. “

Story Continues , here is a link to the study itself and below is a video of a speech Professor Fox gave a year ago on the topic .

Rock Hill Students Hold Guns During Veterans Day Event

ROCK HILL GUNS

” The principal of Saluda Trail Middle School in Rock Hill is defending the decision to let students hold military weapons during a Veterans Day program at the school last week.

A parent complained after pictures of two students holding weapons were posted on the eighth grade school blog.

In each picture a member of the military is next to the student.

The parent thought, that in light of recent school shootings, it was inappropriate.

Principal Brenda Campbell disagreed.

“Those guns are completely no ammo. They had been checked out by the military themselves, who brought them into our school,” Campbell said.”

Kudos to Principal Campbell for standing her ground .

The Most Wanted Gun in America

” THE phone rings again at Pasadena Pawn and Gun, and a familiar question comes down the line: “Got any ARs?”

The answer is no. Pasadena Pawn and Gun, a gun retailer and pawnshop 15 miles south of Baltimore, is pretty much sold out of America’s most wanted gun, the AR-15-style semiautomatic rifle. Since the massacre in Newtown, Conn., in December, the AR-15, the military-style weapon that the police say was used in the shootings, has been selling fast here and across the nation.

Before Newtown, the rifles sold for about $1,100, on average. Now some retailers charge twice that. At Pasadena Pawn, on the wall behind glass counters of handguns, are three dozen or so AR-15-style rifles. Dangling from nearly every one is a tag that says “Sold.”

“The AR-15, it’s kind of fashionable,” says Frank Loane Sr., the proprietor. His shop has a revolving waiting list for the rifles, and a handful of people are now on it. “The young generation likes them, the assault-looking guns.” “

Champion Shooter Educates the Public on Semi-Automatic Firearms

” Here is champion shooter Jessie Duff explaining the differences between a hunting rifle and an AR-15 style rifle, along with some other guns. Jessie Duff, competition shooter, made an appearance on the Hannity Show last evening. She walked the audience through various semi-automatic firearms; rifles and handguns. It was quite educational for those who do not understand what is being discussed in the media and by politicians lately as a “military-style assault rifle”. Educate yourself, then share with others.

Point of fact: More kids died this week from the flu than from guns. More died in car accidents than from guns.

I like to shoot the AR-15. It is fun and there is no recoil, so you can shoot all day. The first time my husband let me shoot one, after I was done and talking to a friend I said I shot about 30 rounds. My husband laughed and said no, it was more like 90! When you educate yourself you will see what a bunch of media and political hype this whole gun issue is! The AR is the least of your worries, and if you wonder why a couple of mentally deranged crazies have used them, as the media is eager to report, it is because they are very popular. You can customize them in a lot of different ways to suit your personal choices and desires. The only way to eliminate this fear of firearms is to educate yourself, take some classes in firearms, and go out and enjoy a day on the shooting range. You will come away with a better understanding of what self-defense is all about and gain confidence in your ability to defend and protect yourself, your family and your property. Your initial fear will be replaced with self-assurance as you master the skills of target shooting.

Immersing yourself in the traditional gun culture (which is part of being an American) you will also come to understand the reason the founding fathers wrote the Second Amendment in the Bill of Rights in the Constitution, which states that “…the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.” I interpret that to mean that the federal government is constitutionally prohibited from enacting ANY gun control laws that would infringe on our right to be armed to protect ourselves from threats or enemies, foreign or domestic. The laws in place that prohibit a known felon from owning or possessing a firearm are reasonable, and are to protect the law abiding populace. Background checks on those who want to purchase guns also make sense, as we have the technology to do so and we should prevent firearms from getting into the wrong hands. We are never going to eliminate all gun crime. On the other hand, statistics show that cities that have strict gun control laws and areas designated as “gun free zones” only allow for criminals to know that they can commit crimes with little or no resistance. We can be reasonable in effecting safer gun control measures, but harsher rules of what kind of weapons and how many rounds a magazine can hold, only harm law abiding citizens. Enforce the laws with strict consequences on those who commit violent crimes of all kinds, with any form of deadly weapon.

This knee jerk reaction of our politicians shows us that they never want to let a crisis go to waste. They want us disarmed. Ask yourself why? ”

The Truth About assault Weapons

Bravo Company USA

” Please share this information on your FaceBook page in the hope that other folks in the “I support the 2nd Amendment, but don’t want people to have AR15 rifles” crowd get a better real understanding of the issues at stake.
If we don’t get these folks involved and on our side, the 2nd Amendment will eventually be completely eroded. There is so much misinformation put out there by the gun-grabbers and then repeated by the media. Let’s take a moment to clear up some of that misinformation.

1) Civilian AR-15 rifles are NOT the same automatic weapons the Military has. The military has fully automatic weapons. Civilian AR-15s in production today do NOT. They shoot one shot per trigger pull, just like a semi auto hunting rifle. I know often the when the media makes commentary they show B-roll video in the background of a machine gun shooting and spraying, but that is not how civilian AR-15 rifles operate.

2) Civilian AR-15 rifles (or similar) has the same type of internals as your semi auto deer rifle. Civilian type “assault” rifles function the exact same way as deer hunting rifles. They just look different.

3) Even the term “assault” rifle is gun grabber sensationalism parroted by the media. “Assault” weapons are fully automatic (select fire), and they have been heavily regulated since the 1930s, and civilian manufacturer has been completely outlawed almost 30 years ago!!

4) ”AK-47s” have already been banned from manufacture from civilians, also almost 30 years ago. Again the civilian look-a-like rifles have the same type of semi auto internals as your hunting rifle. Different cosmetics, same type of mechanics.

5) An AR15 (or similar) is NOT a “high powered rifle”. I guess it depends on what you want to categorize as “high power”, but these rifles shoot some of the smallest rifle cartridges in the market. Deer rifles are a LOT more powerful than any of these rifles. And soon the gun-grabbing crowd will recategorize your deer rifle as a “high powered sniper rifle”. That is how this political movement works.

6) A hunting shotgun is a LOT more lethal in these close quarter mass killings of unarmed innocent people than any semi auto rifle. Anyone with extensive firearms training and experience will confirm that.

The politicians know these new laws will NOT stop these types of mass killings. They even admit it! But they want to pass them anyway because it serves their greater mission of effectively neutering the second amendment. The leaders in this movement actually DON’T WANT these laws to work (even if they would) because when they are shown ineffective, they now have the political momentum to pass more ineffective laws, and grab more guns.

This is all part of a broader gun grab, done slowly, in increments, over time, until the Second Amendment is just a bunch of meaningless outdated words on an old piece of parchment.

When a sociopath chooses that shotgun or hunting rifle in the next horrific event, you are the legislature’s next target.

The philosophy of “We need to pass more laws to stop sociopathic criminals from breaking our laws” is effective because most Americans are not really paying attention to these details. (Please read that line twice) Please help to educate the public with this information.

Also it should be noted, the 2nd Amendment has NOTHING to do with hunting, fishing, competitive shooting, “sporting purposes”, racquet ball, swimming, camping, etc. The 2nd Amendment (and the entire Bill of Rights) is to preserve a balance of power between the citizens and their government. ”
