Breaking A Decades-Long Trend, The World Gets More Violent

” If you were watching the news last year, it was hard to escape the impression the world was falling apart. Now the data is in. And yes, it turns out the world’s most violent conflicts got a lot bloodier in 2014 — almost 30 percent bloodier, in fact.

According to an analysis of data from the world’s 20 most lethal wars last year, at least 163,000 people died in conflict. That compares to just under 127,000 in the 20 worst wars the previous year, a rise of 28.7 percent.”

That’s a pretty disturbing spike by anyone’s terms. And if you look at the first few months of 2015, the violence doesn’t seem to be waning.

What’s even more worrying is that this seems to be part of an ongoing trend that now goes back eight years. According to the Australia-based Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP), global violence — as defined by a range of measures from conflict deaths, to displaced persons, to homicide rates — has been rising since 2007.”

” This news is in many ways surprising because up to 2007, the data suggested the world was becoming a much safer place.

According to the IEP, global violence had been broadly subsiding since the end of World War Two. Harvard psychologist Steven Pinker traces it back even further. Since the dawn of prehistory, Pinker’s research suggests, mankind has been becoming less violent.

So what is going wrong now? And how bad could it all get? ”

What could have changed ?  Couldn’t be a lack of competent leadership now could it ? Nah … they’ve assured us we’ve never been safer . Read more at Reuters …

Sarah Palin Hammers Obama For His Snub Of The Paris Anti-Terror Rally

” President Barack Obama is coming under increasing criticism for his no-show at the massive anti-terrorism, pro-free speech rally in Paris that took place on Sunday. While virtually every other world leader was in attendance including those of France, Germany, the Ukraine, Israel, Jordan, and the Palestinian Authority, not one major American official, not even Attorney General Eric Holder who flew out of Paris over the weekend, choose to show up. Sunday, Sarah Palin, the former Alaska governor, former vice presidential candidate, and current most powerful female politician on the planet, took to Facebook pm Sunday to demand why.

She started her post by praising the unprecedented rally, which placed over a million people in the streets of Paris, as a powerful answer to the evil inflicted by the Islamist terrorists last week. Then she noted the one man who was conspicuous by his absence. Palin’s condemnation was damning.”

What Leading Democrat Politicians Took Koch Brother Money?

Dem Koch Heads

” Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has worked tirelessly to vilify the Koch Brothers. Ranting and raving on the Senate floor like a madman, the senior Senator from Nevada has publicly bashed the benefactor brothers for their willingness to engage in the political process.
Through all of his blustering, Sen. Reid has tried to paint campaign contributions as a decidedly right wing issue; apparently, Sen. Reid has never stopped to wonder where Democrats get their money.
According to a new report, Democrats are reaping the benefits of the supposedly ill-gotten gains of Koch Industries as the profits from the brothers’ dealings have been financing Democrats for years.”

… We need full disclosure on Benghazi — now

“Someone high up in the administration,” Lyons writes, “let
our people get killed” — and he wants some answers immediately as to whom:

“The Obama national security team,
including CIA, DNI, State Department and the Pentagon , watched and listened to the assault but did nothing to answer repeated calls for assistance. It has been reported that President Obama met with Vice President Joseph R. Biden and Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta in the Oval Office, presumably to see what support could be provided. After all, we had very credible military resources within striking distance. At our military base in Sigonella, Sicily,
which is slightly over 400 miles from Benghazi, we had a fully equipped Special Forces unit with both transport and jet strike aircraft prepositioned. Certainly this was a force much more capable than the 22-man force from
our embassy in Tripoli.

I know those Special Forces personnel were ready to leap at the opportunity. There is no doubt in my mind they would have wiped out the terrorists attackers. Also I have no doubt that Admiral William McRaven, Commander of U.S. Special Operations Command,
would have had his local commander at Sigonella ready to launch; however, apparently he was countermanded—by whom? We need to know.

  I also understand we had a C-130
gunship available, which would have quickly disposed of the terrorist attackers. This attack went on for seven hours. Our fighter jets could have been at our Benghazi mission within an hour. Our Special Forces out of Sigonella could have been there within a few hours. There is not any doubt that action on our part could have saved the lives of our two former Navy SEALs and possibly the ambassador.

Having been in a number of similar situations, I know you have to have the courage to do what’s right and take immediate action. Obviously, that courage was lacking for Benghazi. The safety of your personnel always remains paramount. With all the technology and military capability we had in theater, for our leadership to have deliberately ignored the pleas for
assistance is not only incomprehensible, it is unAmerican.”

Who’s ‘Politicizing’ Benghazi?

” Obviously, Miss Cutter is right: A healthy mature democracy should spend its quadrennial election on critical issues like the Republican party’s war on puppets rather than attempting to “politicize” the debate by dragging in stuff like foreign policy, national security, the economy, and other obscure peripheral subjects. But, alas, it was her boss who chose to “politicize” a security fiasco and national humiliation in Benghazi. At 8:30 p.m., when Ambassador Stevens strolled outside the gate and bid his Turkish guest good night, the streets were calm and quiet. At 9:40 p.m., an armed assault on the compound began, well planned and executed by men not only armed with mortars but capable of firing them to lethal purpose — a rare combination among the excitable mobs of the Middle East. There was no demonstration against an Islamophobic movie that just got a little out of hand. Indeed, there was no movie protest at all. Instead, a U.S. consulate was destroyed and four of its personnel were murdered in one of the most sophisticated military attacks ever launched at a diplomatic facility.”

Conduct Unbecoming

” Vice President Joe Biden interrupted Paul Ryan 82 times in a 90-minute debate with rival Paul Ryan, while CNN reported that women preferred Ryan.”

Did Obama And Biden Forget That They Televise Debates?

“In two debates President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden have collectively moved into first place in the all-time worst use of the medium of television in a debates. Collectively they’ve frowned and smirked (Obama) and creepily smiled and guffawed (Biden) in such inglorious fashion as to historically portray themselves so poorly that they’ve move the needle decidedly in their opponents favor. Obama’s debate loss is already historic.”

Truer words have seldom been spoken

“Joe Biden is one of the most experienced debaters we have in modern politics,” Paul Ryan said before leaving his Florida debate camp for the site of Thursday’s vice presidential debate.  “But the Achilles heel he has is President Obama’s record.”

Except perhaps for these

“You could fill a bookshelf with the foreign policy mistakes that Vice President Biden has made in the course of his very long career in Washington,” says the aide.

But the bottom line is this

” A House committee heard extensive testimony establishing that the Obama administration refused requests for heightened security from ambassador to Libya Christopher Stevens and his aides, requests made just weeks before Stevens and three other Americans were murdered in a terrorist attack timed to coincide with the anniversary of September 11.  House testimony also established beyond any doubt that Obama, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, White House spokesman Jay Carney, and UN Ambassador Susan Rice all made untrue statements when they attributed the attack to angry protests over an anti-Muslim video.”

“In the first week since Paul Ryan joined Mitt Romney on the Republican ticket, something subtle yet fundamental has happened to the country–something not yet
reflected in poll numbers or punditry: the mantle of leadership has shifted.

Barack Obama and Joe Biden (certainly the latter) occupy office but cannot be said to govern in any meaningful way beyond formalities. Obama avoids the media ; Biden has been sent back to Delaware ; and their vast auxiliary army
of super PACs and community
organizers is reduced to petty sniping.and personal attacks. No one expects any truly new ideas or proposals to come out of the Obama campaign anymore. It is telling that the only real debate this week was between Romney and Ryan’s Medicare policies, not
Obama’s. “

She’s No Dummy … Ha

” Did Hillary Clinton turn down the opportunity to replace Joe Biden as soon as two weeks ago in a
White House lunch with Valerie Jarrett?

Ed Klein, author of “The Amateur,” says his sources in the Hillary camp say it’s true in an appearance last night on CNBC with Larry Kudlow. Not only did she turn Obama down, but according to Klein, Obama’s “socialistic policies” are part of the reason the presumed 2016 frontrunner wants
to maintain her distance from the campaign: “

Biden Explained

Investors Business Daily

” There’s no question that a sober discussion about the proper size and scope of government would be welcome. And Ryan has proved
himself more than capable of engaging in such a dialogue. But don’t expect anything even
remotely resembling that from today’s Democrats. The party of FDR these days is only interested in one thing: spreading fear.

To get a taste of the Democrats’ “sober” and “serious” approach to big issues, consider the ad a liberal group ran last May attacking Ryan’s
Medicare reform. That ad depicted a Ryan lookalike shoving a screaming, wheelchair bound woman off a cliff. Not one prominent Democrat decried that ad.”
