” The police have discovered that guns in the hands of law abiding Americans may be the best defense against guns in the hands of criminals.

Chris Cox (Executive Director, National Rifle Association Institute for Legislative Action) moderates the discussion with Emily Miller (Senior Opinion Editor, The Washington Times); David Clark (Sheriff of Milwaukee County, Wisconsin); and The Honorable Sandy Adams, former United States Representative for Florida at CPAC 2014 on March 8, 2014.

Recorded at the American Conservative Union (ACU) Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) 2014, March 6-8, 2014, Washington, D.C.

“Okay, we know that Romney has a tendency to, er, flip-flop on issues. Of late, he has been saying that he supports the Second Amendment
and gun rights. In an exclusive Daily Caller interview with Mitt Romney, conducted by the
NRA’s Chris Cox, he goes much further:

Cox: Would you support legislation to provide national reciprocity for Right-to-Carry permit holders so that they can protect themselves when they’re traveling outside their home states?

Gov. Romney: Absolutely. Fundamental rights don’t disappear when we cross state borders, and self-defense is a fundamental
right.

Cox: Would you support the reimposition of a federal ban on semi-automatic firearms incorrectly called “assault
weapons?”

Gov. Romney: No. I do not support any additional laws to restrict the right to keep and bear arms.
