How Mass (Legal) Immigration Dooms a Conservative Republican Party

Foreword, by Phyllis Schlafly

” People come to America because it is a remarkable oasis of freedom, prosperity, and opportunity for foreigners no matter what socioeconomic rank they were assigned in their native country. Republicans and conservatives recognize that the principal reason for our unique abundance is our constitutional restraints on the power of government. As Thomas Jefferson said, “In questions of power, let no more be heard of confidence in man, but bind him down from mischief by the chains of the Constitution.”
Accordingly, Republicans and conservatives believe in limited government, constitutional separation of powers, balanced budgets, and a minimum of government supervision and interference in our daily lives. Other countries have constitutions that list what the government should do for individuals, whereas the U.S. Constitution recites what government cannot do to us.
This approach has stood the test of time: Our Constitution is the longest-lasting constitution in history. Republicans recognize this as the major factor in our economic
successes. As this report makes clear, current immigration policies are adding thousands of people every day whose views and experience are contrary to the conservative agenda of limited government. Most immigrants come from countries where the only government they knew was one that played a much larger role in the economy and society.
By itself, the 1.1 million legal immigrants that arrive each year under the current system will create 5.1 million new potential voters by 2024 and 8.4 million by 2028. Congressional Budget Office (CBO) projections indicate that under the Senate Gang of Eight’s S.744 bill the total additional potential voters would rise to 9.7 million by 2024 and 17.9 million by 2028.
Current immigration policies are adding thousands of people every day whose views and experience are contrary to the conservative agenda of limited government, reducing Republicans’ ability to offer an alternative to big government.
The influx of these new voters will reduce or eliminate Republicans’ ability to offer an alternative to big government, increased government spending, higher taxes, and favorite liberal policies such as Obamacare and gun control. New voters will lean on our hard-pressed health care system and overcrowded public schools to demand more government spending. Amnesty advocates point to the assimilation of large numbers of immigrants in the early years of the 20th century. But that was followed by a national pause and slow down of immigration from the 1920s to the 1960s that allowed newcomers to assimilate, learn our language, and adapt to our unique system of government.
Furthermore, most of those earlier immigrants arrived eager to become Americans. Many became almost 200percent Americans, typified by Irving Berlin’s “God Bless America” and by those who dominated Hollywood in those years. Still, it took seven decades and Ronald Reagan before descendents of many of those immigrants votedRepublican. There is nothing controversial about this report’s conclusion that a significant majority of immigrants arriving today generally agree with the Democrats’ big government
agenda. And it is for this reason that they vote two-to-one for Democrats. This report not only cites a large body of survey research showing this is the case, it also quotes numerous academics and political observers making the same point. Immigration has created a greatly expandedleftist Democratic electorate.
The 2008 National Annenberg Election Survey found that 62 percent of immigrants prefer a single, government-run health care system. The 2010 Cooperative CongressionalElection Study found that 69 percent of immigrants support Obamacare, and the Pew Research Center found that 75 percent of Hispanic and 55 percent of Asian immigrants support bigger government. A Harris poll found that 81 percent of native-born Americans believe the schools should teach students to be proud of being American compared to only 50 percent of immigrants who had become naturalized U.S. citizens.

Secret To Happiness? Be A Conservative Woman

Arthur Brooks is the president of the American Enterprise Institute, where I am a visiting fellow, and also a social scientist who has written a book on happiness. His research has shed light on who’s happy, and why

Other patterns were surprising, at least to me. Women in the United States have long reported greater levels of happiness than men. Their advantage has, however, been shrinking, and for an unhappy reason: falling happiness among women. Scholars are unsure why that’s happening. Women also rebound more quickly than men from the death of a spouse — perhaps, Brooks speculates, because they have more close friends.

Over the last 40 years, women who describe themselves as “conservative” have been more likely than women to their left to say they are “very happy,” and those who say they are “extremely conservative” have been happier still. Over the same period, conservatives in general have held the same pattern: Righty men, too, have been happier than their more liberal counterparts. So maybe the last two presidential elections should be seen as a victory for the redistribution of happiness as well as income.”

Vince Vaughn Couldn’t Care Less What Liberal Hollywood Thinks

” If you question Vince Vaughn about his political views, he’ll tell you he’s a proud conservative – and he doesn’t care what the liberals in Hollywood think.

In a telephone interview with Adam Carolla, Hollywood A-list actor Vince Vaughn made a bold statement about his conservative values. When Carolla directly asked him, “Do you count yourself a conservative?” Vaughn didn’t hesitate, he quickly responded, “I do, yeah…I mean I’m very supportive of Ron Paul, but I’ve always been more conservative than not.”

“I really like Ron Paul…I think that when you get older, you just get less trust in the government running anything. And you start to realize…when you go back and start to look at the Constitution and the principles of liberty, the real purpose of government is to protect the individual’s right to, you know, sort of think and pursue what they have interest in,” Vaughn replied.”

With idiots like Tom Cruise getting all the press and money and dominating the entertainment industry , it is easy to forget about an actor who has a head on his shoulders . Thanks , Vince Vaughn for providing the lone voice from the wilderness .

Sen. Mike Lee On “What’s Next For Conservatives”

Below are just a few highlights to Sen Mike Lee’s recent address to the Heritage Foundation as provided by Townhall.com.

” It has been quite a month in Washington.

It began with our effort to stop Obamacare — a goal that all Republicans share even if we have not always agreed about just how to pursue it. And it is ending with powerful practical proof of just why stopping Obamacare is so essential.

This law is unaffordable and unfair… and it’s getting worse all the time. As of today, President Obama’s policy is to fine any American who does not buy a product that his bungled website will not sell them.

And they call us unreasonable.”

Senator Lee is a man to be reckoned with .

” What do we do next, not only to stop Obamacare… but to advance a larger, positive vision of America, and craft a practical plan to get us there? What’s next for conservatives?

That is the question I would like to try to answer today.

One of conservatives’ defining virtues is our insistence on learning from history. And to help answer the question, “what’s next?,” I think the most instructive history that conservatives can learn from today is our own.”

He understands better than most in the Republican party that the answers lie in the history of the party and the free exchange of ideas and not in some sort of revisionist theory that requires the right side of the aisle to engage in fratricide and play yes man to the left side all in a fruitless attempt to get the media to refrain from calling the conservatives names .

” In The Conservative Mind, Russell Kirk observed that “conservatives inherit from [Edmund] Burke a talent for re-expressing their convictions to fit the time.”

That is precisely what the conservatives of the late 1970s did. The ideas that defined and propelled the Reagan Revolution did not come down from a mountain etched in stone tablets.

They were forged in an open, roiling, diverse debate about how conservatism could truly meet the challenges of that day. That debate invited all conservatives and as we know, elevated the best.”

As the struggle for the direction of the Republican party is played out , it’s comforting to know that at least a few of our duly elected officials “have a clue” even while admitting that the old guard remain clueless to all but how to get re-elected .

” Together, that generation of conservatives transformed a movement that was anti- statist, anti-communist, and anti-establishment… and made it pro-reform.

Contrary to the establishment’s complaints, conservatives in the late 1970s did not start a “civil war.” They started a (mostly) civil debate.

Because of that confident and deeply conservative choice – to argue rather than quarrel, to persuade rather than simply purge – the vanguards of the establishment never knew what hit them.

The bottom line was that in 1976, the conservative movement found a leader for the ages… yet it still failed.

By 1980, the movement had forged an agenda for its time… and only then did it succeed.

That, my fellow conservatives, is the lesson our generation must take from our movement’s “revolutionary era” – and the enormous and exhilarating challenge it presents to us today.”

It is a strong , moving speech that shows Mike Lee to be a man to look to for the future of liberty , choice and sound policy . Read the whole thing .

The Conservative Shift In Public Opinion Has Happened In All 50 States

” Recently on this blogLarry Bartels drew attention to an astonishing fact: the public is as conservative as it has been in 50 years. To highlight this point, Professor Bartels presented the public’s policy mood — James Stimson’s measure of public support for government programs—from 1950 to 2012. In a recent article, Julianna Koch and I generated measures of policy mood for each state from the 1950s to 2010 (our measures our here). What we found is that the conservative opinion shift Professor Bartels highlighted repeats itself in every state.”

Barack Obama Has Created More Conservatives Than He Has Jobs

chart conservative mood us

” The latest update of Stimson’s policy mood series suggests that the American public in 2012 was more conservative than at any point since 1952. (Actually, since mood in each year is estimated with some error, it seems safer to say that the current level of conservatism roughly equals the previous highs recorded in 1980 and 1952.) While the slight increase in conservatism from 2011 to 2012 is too small to be significant, it continues a marked trend that began as soon as Barack Obama moved into the White House…

Political pundits often suppose that presidential election outcomes reflect the current and future ideological mood of the country. For example, Obama’s election in 2008 was hailed as the advent of “The New Liberal Order” and cited as evidence that “liberal views have re-emerged with a vengeance.” His reelection in 2012 was even more improbably described as “the most decisive mandate for an assertive, progressive governing model in well over a generation.” In reality, Stimson’s data show, the public was already more conservative than usual in 2008, and a good deal more conservative by 2012.”

Exclusive: States With Lowest Unemployment Are Dominated By Conservatives & Republicans

” America is said to be the laboratory of democracy. If so, there may be a top secret ideological formula for lower unemployment: conservatism.

States where self-identified conservatives dominate the political landscape are more likely to have the lowest unemployment rates. People can argue about it, but they should take it up with the Bureau of Labor Statistics and the people who respond to Gallup surveys.

Comparing Bureau of Labor Statistics’ state unemployment numbers released on March 18th, 2013 with Gallup polling published in February 2013, the superior performance of conservative states is glaring. Gallup frames its scores as ‘conservative advantage,’ and these variables average out to a score of 17.7. That means the middle-of-the-road ideology score is about 17.7.”

Conservative Bloggers Say Facebook Selectively Enforcing Non-Existent Rules

” On Sunday, two conservative bloggers accused Facebook of selectively enforcing rules that are either non-existent or not made known to the millions of people who use the site. Diane Sori, a Florida-based conservative who blogs at the Patriot Factor, and Craig Andresen of the National Patriot basically argued that Facebook is arbitrarily punishing conservatives using non-existent policies in order to silence criticism of Barack Obama.

The accusations stem from an incident involving the Facebook page “Barracuda Brigade for Our American Girl! 2012,” a community fan page supporting Sarah Palin.”

Hell , this is no surprise … even some WordPress blogging tools exhibit a leftward slant . Zemanta and the recommended tags algorithms often seem prejudicial towards the statist mindset if you ask me .

CPAC Turns Away Pamela Geller

” For the last four years, Pamela Geller of AtlasShrugs.com and the American Freedom Defense Initiative have held events at CPAC featuring guests she invites to discuss the influence of Islamism on America. But this year, the American Conservative Union (ACU) has no room for Geller or her message.

In years past, the events were standing room only thanks to their popularity, but that apparently was not enough to counter pressure brought to bear from somewhere to exclude Geller’s message.”

We’re a day late with this one but it is very much worth your time .

The Legacy Andrew Breitbart Left for The Next Generation

” Today is the one year anniversary of the death of New Media pioneer and American patriot Andrew Breitbart. In his memory I’m reprinting the article I published a year ago in response, explaining the impact he had, originally titled “Immortality: Andrew Breitbart’s 5 Gifts to Generation Y Conservatism.”

Greg Gutfeld on his friend Andrew Breitbart:

My wife called him the wizard, for he could conjure up anything at any time with limitless energy.

As an enthusiast for pop culture’s fruits, perhaps Big Hollywood’s founder would allow a Harry Potter reference to describe the impact he left on American political culture and the lives of those who knew him.”

” Alabama is the most “conservative” state in the U.S., with roughly 50 percent of its residents “identifying their ideology as conservative,” trailed closely by North Dakota and Wyoming (both 48.6 percent), according to a recent survey by Gallup.”

Gallup Reports on the Most Conservative & Liberal States

What Is the Future of Conservatism?

” Lost in all the post-election analysis was a much larger and more cynically brilliant Obama us-and-them campaign that created the image of a shrinking, geriatric white male plutocratic establishment forced to give way to the new age of the diverse “other.” Affluent Asians, blacks, Latinos, gays, women, etc., supposedly had beef with Republicans and were brilliantly united by Obama in vague resentment against “them.”

In this regard, Republicans have to focus on a more populist approach that ensures their message of smaller government, lower taxes, a strong defense, and more freedom appeals to those on the receiving end of government largesse. Free-market conservatives do best when they appear naturally as part of the working or small-business class and can’t be caricatured as elevator-owning grandees–and when they mix it up and take their licks in trying to appeal to those who probably won’t vote for them. ”

Stop With The Excuses Already … You Sound Like The Opposition

” Movement conservatives, Reagan conservatives, and tea partiers did not back Gov. Romney in the Republican primaries. Despite misgivings, when the GOP establishment chose Romney, these patriotic conservatives did not sulk or stay home. They walked through fire for Romney and formed the backbone of his base and ground game. They gave their all to their country, they volunteered their time, they donated what they could to a candidate they did not choose, and they voted for him. Why? Because they put the future of the country ahead of their own personal interests.

Which is something Ann Coulter may want to try. “

Duh !

Thanks Peggy . It only took you three years . And the conservative elites wonder why we have as much disdain for them as we do for the liberal elites . Duh!
