Benghazi Panel To Query Top Officials

” A special House committee looking into the deadly Benghazi, Libya, attacks in 2012 will interview a host of current and former high-ranking Obama administration officials as it speeds the pace of the investigation.

The panel’s chairman, Rep. Trey Gowdy, R-S.C., said Friday he intends to interview 20 high-ranking officials, including former Defense Secretary Leon Panetta and former CIA director David Petraeus, as well as White House chief of staff Denis McDonough and national security adviser Susan Rice.

The list also includes former White House press secretary Jay Carney, Army Gen. Martin Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and former national security adviser Thomas Donilon.”

” Gowdy has previously said he will ask former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton to testify at a public hearing before the 12-member committee. He said Friday that appearance should occur “as soon as possible.” Gowdy said last week he was frustrated at the slow pace of the investigation and was going to “ratchet it up.”

Gowdy said the interviews with the high-ranking officials will begin as soon as April, after the panel interviews 22 potential witnesses who work for the State Department or have knowledge of the attacks.”

Evidence Casts Doubt On Ex-CIA Leaders’ Claims On Benghazi Mortar Attack

” If former CIA Director David Petraeus and his ex-deputy Michael Morell are recalled to testify on Benghazi, they can expect hard questions about the mortar attack on the CIA annex which killed two former Navy SEALs.

Republican Mike Rogers, chairman of the powerful House Intelligence Committee, is weighing whether to recall one or both of those officials over their Benghazi congressional testimony.”

” Rogers said the evidence suggests a highly skilled team carried out the mortar strike. Fox News has confirmed five rounds were fired in under a minute, with three hitting the annex roof — a target roughly the size of two convenience stores.

” This was exceptionally good shooting. It was clearly accurate. They adjusted their fire, which is a term a mortar crew might use, so they went a little long and a little short and they fired for effect,” Rogers said. “When you fire for effect and you have three rounds hit exactly where they were intended that ended up taking the lives of our American heroes there, that tells me that they knew exactly what they were doing. So that was either significantly preplanned, or it was a mortar crew that was exceptionally good.”

Spontaneous my a** … Lies , lies and more lies . It took only two ranging shots from these spontaneous amateurs to be able to drop the next three rounds right on the Annex roof ? Sure . And ponder this little fact found near the end of the story :

While the CIA annex was heavily fortified, its security cameras intact and a drone overhead throughout the attack, there is apparently no video of the mortar strike itself.”

How America Lost Its Four Great Generals

” The quasi-official ideology of the U.S. armed forces holds that generals are virtually interchangeable, that individual personalities don’t matter much, that ordinary grunts are in any case more important than their leaders, and that what really counts are larger systems that make a complex bureaucracy function. There is some truth to all of this. But for all of the bureaucratic heft of the services and the heroism of ordinary soldiers, it is hard to imagine the Civil War having been won without Grant, Sherman, and Sheridan—or World War II without Marshall, Eisenhower, Patton, Bradley, Arnold, LeMay, Nimitz, Halsey, and all the other senior generals and admirals.

Likewise it is hard to imagine the War on Terror having been waged without four-star commanders such as David Petraeus, Stanley McChrystal, John Allen, and James Mattis. They are among the most illustrious generals produced by the last decade of fighting. They are the stars of their generation. From Iraq to Afghanistan and beyond, they emerged from anonymity to orchestrate campaigns that, after initial setbacks, have given the United States a chance to salvage a decent outcome from protracted counterinsurgencies; they have also literally rewritten the book on how to wage modern war successfully. Yet aside from the similarities in the challenges they faced and the skills they displayed in rising to the task, these men share another, more troubling resemblance: They are either gone from the military or (in the case of Mattis) about to go as of this writing. And for the most part they are leaving under unhappy circumstances. A strong case can be made that all were shabbily treated to one extent or another. Petraeus was hounded out of the CIA and McChrystal out of high command in Afghanistan under a cloud of scandal; Allen saw his reputation unfairly marred by scandal before deciding to call it quits; and Mattis is said to have been pushed out early after clashes with the White House. Certainly none of them was afforded the respect and honors that successful officers at the pinnacle of their career ought to expect—in part to drive younger officers to follow their example and seize the day when their time comes. The treatment of these four remarkable generals at the hands of President Obama and his aides, whatever the merits of each individual case, is likely to rankle within the armed forces and leave those forces less prepared for future challenges.”

With Speech, Petraeus Returns To Public Life, ‘Keenly Aware’ Of Altered Reputation

” Since he resigned as director of the Central Intelligence Agency last November after acknowledging an extramarital affair, David H. Petraeus has all but vanished from the national scene.

But in a speech on Tuesday night, Mr. Petraeus will seek to open a new chapter in his career — one that carves out a role for himself as a voice on energy, economic and veterans issues and in the private sector.

Mr. Petraeus’s speech, which will take place at an event honoring veterans and the R.O.T.C. program at the University of Southern California, will begin with an account of the “personal journey” he has undergone since his resignation.

“Needless to say, I join you keenly aware that I am regarded in a different light now than I was a year ago,” Mr. Petraeus will say, according to an advance text of his speech that was made available to The New York Times.”

Does History Tell Us Why Obama’s Been Firing Senior Military Officers

” In recent months Obama has ended the careers of General Carter Ham USA, Rear Adm. Charles M. Gaouette USN, General John Allen USMC, General William Ward USA, General James Mad Dog Mattis USMC.

Then there were Generals Billy McChrystal and David Petraeus who made big headlines when they had their talks with the Commander in Chief..

There are a number of rumors circulating that almost all of these officers had questioned the Presidents, intentions, methods, integrity or truthfulness.

There was a recent article by Reaganite Republican ^  on freerepublic.com stating the the Russian’s believe the Obama Administration is terrified of Officiers who take their oath to support the Constitution seriously…. because put bluntly those officers pose a threat to his ability to rule by Unconstitutional Executive Fiat

Russian Military Intel Tells Kremlin Obama Fired Military Officers Because He ‘Fears a Coup’

According to (shadowy anonymous blogger) Sorcha Faal the Russian military’s GRU foreign intelligence unit presented a report to Kremlin leadership late last month that said Obama removed one of the United States Navy’s most powerful admirals from his command (in the wake of Benghazi 9/11) specifically because he fears a military coup is being planned against him.”

John Brennan To Be Nominated To Head CIA

” Mr Brennan, a 25-year CIA veteran, is expected to be announced by the White House later today.

An Obama administration official told the Associated Press that the president will also formally announce that he is nominating Chuck Hagel as his next defense secretary. Both men must be confirmed by the Senate.

Mr Obama considered Mr Brennan for the top CIA job in 2008. But Mr Brennan withdrew his name amid questions about his connection to enhanced interrogation techniques while serving in the spy agency during the George W. Bush administration.

Mr Brennan denied involvement in the controversial interrogation tactics, including waterboarding, and has spoken out against them.

The CIA’s top job is vacant after David Petraeus resigned in the wake of a sex scandal. An FBI investigation uncovered that Mr Petraeus, a former four star general, was having an extramartial affair with his biographer Paula Broadwell. ”

*Editors Note : We have no problem with enhanced interrogation per se . We merely point out the hypocrisy of the left in condemning the Bush administration while turning a blind eye to whatever the Obama administration does .

The Media’s Petraeus Story: Nothing Could Be More Far-Fetched Simply on Prima Facie Evidence

” Clearly we are in deep waters here: This involves political intrigue at the highest level and has profound national security implications, involving the directorship of the CIA and clandestine operations, intelligence reports, multi-billion dollar expenditures and US efforts to stabilize client regimes and destabilize target regimes. CIA intelligence reports identifying allies and enemies are critical to shaping global US foreign policy. Any shift at the top of the US empire’s operational command can and does have strategic importance.

The ‘outing’ of General Allen, the military commander in charge of Afghanistan, the US main zone of military operations occurs at a crucial time, with the scheduled forced withdrawal of US combat troops and when the Afghan ‘sepoys’, the soldiers and officers of the puppet Karzai regime, are showing major signs of disaffection, is clearly a political move of the highest order.

What are the political issues behind the beheading of these two generals? Who benefits and who loses? “

Mark Steyn: Jill Kelley For Secretary Of State

” Anyway, I blow hot and cold on the Petraeus sex scandal. Initially, it seemed the best shot at getting a largely uninterested public to take notice of the national humiliation and subsequent cover-up over the deaths of American diplomats and the sacking of our consulate in Benghazi. On the other hand, everyone involved in this sorry excuse for a sex scandal seems to have been too busy emailing each other to have had any sex. The FBI was initially reported to have printed out 20,000 to 30,000 pages of emails and other communications between Gen. John Allen, U.S. commander in Afghanistan, and Jill Kelley of Tampa, one-half of a pair of identical twins dressed like understudies for the CENTCOM mess hall production of “Keeping Up With The Kardashians.” Thirty thousand pages! The complete works of Shakespeare come to about three-and-a-half-thousand pages, but American officials can’t even have a sex scandal without getting bogged down in the paperwork. “

This is like “Army Wives” meets “Jersey Shore ” Holy Cow .

” This connection between Natalie and another family at the top of CENTCOM comes in addition to General David Petraeus and General John Allen. As previously reported by Breitbart News, Jill Kelley may have used her influence to have both former CIA Director General Petraeus and General Allen to speak favorably on her twin’s behalf during her custody battle.

Petraeus was in the midst of leading the investigation into the Benghazi mission attack when he took time to write a letter of support for Ms. Khawam. The generals wrote flowery testaments to Natalie’s parenting skills based on observations of her behavior at social functions. The letters stand in stark contrast to the evidence presented in the case and to Judge Neal Kravitz’s ruling where he deemed:

Ms. Khawam appears to lack any appreciation or respect for the importance of honesty and integrity in her interactions with her family, employers, and others with whom she comes in contact. The court fully expects that Ms. Khawam’s pattern of misrepresentations about virtually everything, including the most important aspects of her life, will continue indefinitely. In the same case, her twin, Jill Kelley, was ruled to be a “patently biased and unbelievable witness.” “

” Jill Kelley, the Tampa socialite caught up in the David Petraeus scandal, sent an email to Mayor Bob Buckhorn scolding the police for releasing to the media phone calls that included her phone number and address.

The email, one of several between Kelley and Buckhorn since 2011, was made available by the mayor’s office Friday. The email was sent Wednesday, a day after Kelley emailed the mayor seeking help with media staking out her Bayshore Boulevard home.

In the latter email, Kelley said “my family has been put through the ringer, and my kids are scared. … And to put insult to injury, your police dept gave the local 911 tapes to the press!”

Victor Davis Hanson

” Why, about a mile from the consulate, did we have a large CIA-staffed “annex” that seems to have been busy with all sorts of things other than providing adequate security for our nearby diplomats?

Before the election, the media was not interested in figuring out what Ambassador Christopher Stevens actually was doing in Benghazi, what so many CIA people and military contractors were up to, and what was the relationship of our large presence in Libya to Turkey, insurgents in Syria and the scattered Gadhafi arms depots.

But the strangest “coincidentally” of all is the bizarre resignation of American hero Gen. David Petraeus from the CIA just three days after the election — apparently due to a long-investigated extramarital affair with a sort of court biographer and her spat with a woman she perceived as a romantic rival.”

Sex Scandals — What About The Women Who Help Create Them?

” Paula Broadwell hit the big 4-0 on Friday, the same day President Obama accepted her lover’s resignation. She is a soldier herself, a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army Reserves, promoted in August of 2012. A glance at her resume leads you to think of her as intelligent, with degrees from West Point and Harvard, she even worked with the FBI at one point, albeit with the Joint Terrorism Task Force, but my mercy the irony. She has two children ages six and four.

So where are the pundits calling her a fool? Where is the criticism? Where is the same public humiliation, on the same level that has been meted out against General Petraeus? I can not help but observe one simple fact, when it comes to affairs society seems to criticize the men who have them, way more then the women they have them with. Is it because women are considered delicate? Do we consider the sexual appetites of males to be overwhelming, thus women are excused? Basically he made her do it. I think this logic is anti-women. I’m not saying that to be controversial, or even chauvinistic, I truly believe that women are capable of doing anything and even more then men. That would include weathering the brunt of criticism of an affair. “

Human Events

offers us this handy playbill to help us keep track of the Jill Kelley Saga .

” 1. Retired Army Gen. David H. Petraeus had an affair with his biographer Army Reserve Lt. Col. Paula D. Broadwell (nee Kranz). The relationship began when Petraeus was the U.S. theater commander in Afghanistan and continued through his tenure as CIA director. Her book, “All In: The Education of Gen. David Petraeus” is a silly book. But, at least now we know why it is so silly.

2. Broadwell sent cloaked emails to Gilberte K. “Jill” Kelley (nee Khawam) a Tampa, Fla., society hostess. The authoress suspected the Lebanese-born surgeon’s wife of romancing Petraeus.

3. Kelley hosted social events for Tampa-based U.S. Central Command, while Petraeus was its commanding general.”

The real Petraeus scandal is why the bureau was rummaging around in his private communications in the first place.

” For the past week, Washington has been embroiled in an ever-escalating sex scandal involving Gen. David Petraeus, his biographer Paula Broadwell, and a third woman named Jill Kelley, and now, tangentially it seems, Gen. John Allen. The affair between Petraeus and Broadwell was discovered by the FBI and revealed late last week when Petraeus resigned as director of the CIA. But while the salacious details have kept Washington’s press corps busy, the details about how the bureau ever got this information should concern us far more.

Every turn in the investigation that led to Petraeus’s resignation perfectly illustrates the incredible and dangerous reach of the massive United States surveillance apparatus, which, through hundreds of billions of dollars in post-9/11 programs — coupled with weakened privacy laws and lack of oversight — has affected the civil liberties of every American for years. The only difference here is the victim of the surveillance state’s reach was not a faceless American, but the head one of the agencies tasked to carry it out.

The spark that set events in motion was a handful of allegedly harassing emails sent anonymously to Kelley, a friend of Petraeus’s, which she brought to a friend at the FBI. Yet it’s unclear why an investigation was ever opened, given that everything publicly known about the emails suggests they weren’t illegal.

As the Daily Beast reported, they said things like “Who do you think you are? … You parade around the base … You need to take it down a notch.” The story noted, “when the FBI friend showed the emails to the cyber squad in the Tampa field office, her fellow agents noted that the absence of any overt threats.” ”

And Why Is No One Asking ?

” There’s no implication that the South Korean government has anything to do with the growing scandal that involves Kelly, Allen, Petraeus, and Paula Broadwell, Petraeus’s biographer and alleged mistress. But her work on behalf of the South Koreans may explain some of the 20,000 to 30,000 pages of e-mails between her and Allen that the Defense Department‘s Inspector General‘s office is investigating now.

Kelley does drive a Mercedes sedan with license plates that say “Honorary Consul,” and sheinvoked her honorary diplomatic status in a Nov. 11 911 call when she was complaining about trespassers on her private property.

“I’m an honorary consul general, so I have inviolability, so they should not be able to cross my property,” she told the 911 operator. “I don’t know if you want to get diplomatic protection involved as well, because that’s against the law to cross my property because, you know, it’s inviolable.”

“Ok, no problem, I’ll let the officer know,” the 911 operator responded.”

What the Petraeus Investigation Tells Us About Online Surveillance

” With regards to the David Petraeus scandal, as you dig through the very human details of a powerful man’s dalliance with an attractive woman, an important question should occur to anybody with more than aNational Enquirer-level interest in the matter: Wait … The FBI did all of this digging over some bed-hopping? Yes. Yes, it did. And over at The Guardian, Glenn Greenwald wants to know why more people aren’t concerned. “

Our Apologies And Gratitude To Monica Crowley and The Blaze

But we felt the need to reprint this piece in it’s entirety . It gets right to the heart of the matter and raises all of the right questions … and we don’t mean who was sleeping with whom . Forgive us for taking the liberty with your hard work , but we felt the need necessity to spread this article far and wide , including our fledgling audience .

” The sex scandal is merely the diversion. Of course, everyone is fascinated by the salacious details and intriguing personalities involved in the latest scandal involving sex. In this case, people are riveted by the extramarital affair between America’s once-golden General, David Petraeus, and his biographer, Paula Broadwell. Since that story exploded last Friday afternoon, there has been a steady drip-drip-drip of new allegations involving another woman (Jill Kelley), an FBI agent who was reportedly thrown off the original case for “growing obsessed” with Kelley and sending her “shirtless” photos of himself to her, and the Commander of U.S. and NATO troops in Afghanistan, General John Allen, who reportedly sent Kelley tens of thousands of “potentially inappropriate” emails. He is now under investigation as well.

Wonder why we’re getting a drip-drip-drip of wild new details every day? To keep us distracted. The sex scandal is a mess, but it’s not the mess that matters.

What matters is what happened in Benghazi, Libya on September 11 that resulted in the deaths of four Americans, including two Navy SEALS, a longtime foreign service officer, and the personal representative of the President of the United States, U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens.

Here are a few of the critical questions that REALLY matter:

1. As has been reported by Aaron Klein and others, the U.S. compound in Benghazi was NOT a consulate.  It was a “mission” of some sort, and it looks increasingly likely that the CIA was running the show there.  What was the CIA doing in Benghazi?

2. What were Stevens and the others doing at that CIA mission late into the evening?

3. Before he was killed that fateful night, Navy SEAL Tyrone Woods rescued scores of Americans from the compound. Who were they?  What were they doing in Benghazi?

4.  Woods sprung into action to try to save the Ambassador and others despite being given the order to “stand down.” Who gave the “stand down” order? Did Obama approve it?

5.  Who repeatedly denied their requests for help as they were under attack? Who was watching the attack unfold in real time back in Washington?

6. Who dreamt up the fiction that the attack was inspired by some obscure video? And who sent out top administration officials, including U.S. Ambassador to the UN, Susan Rice, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and CIA Director David Petraeus, among others, to spin and perpetuate the fiction—for weeks?

7.  MOST IMPORTANTLY: What is this administration REALLY covering up?

A)  Did this administration secretly sell or give weapons to al Qaeda and other Islamists operating under the “Libyan rebel” banner?

B) Was Stevens running a CIA operation to reacquire those weapons from al Qaeda for two purposes: to prevent it from being known that the U.S. was arming our mortal terrorist enemy, and/or to transfer those weapons to the equally odious al Qaeda, Muslim Brotherhood, and other Islamist “rebels” in Syria?

C) Jennifer Griffin of Fox News—who has done outstanding investigative work on this story—reported yesterday that part of the CIA mission in Benghazi was actually a detention facility in which scores of prisoners were being kept from all across the Middle East and Africa. She reported that it was the “largest” such facility the CIA was operating. The CIA immediately issued a denial, saying that it has not operated such a detention facility since January 2009, when newly sworn-in President Obama signed an executive order outlawing such facilities. Did Benghazi, in fact, house a terrorist prison?

D)  If Griffin’s reporting is correct and Benghazi WAS a detention facility, did Obama know about/sign off on it?  Or was this a rogue CIA operation?

E)  Griffin also reported that the prisoners held there were moved 2 weeks before the attack on September 11.  Did the CIA get a sense an attack was
coming to try to free the prisoners there?

F)  In a public speech on October 26, Paula Broadwell stated that the Benghazi mission WAS, in fact, holding prisoners.  How did she get that information?  It seems to back up Griffin’s reporting.

G) If it WERE, in fact, a detention facility, were interrogations occurring? If so, what was the nature of those interrogations?

This is just the starting point for the REAL questions that MUST be asked—and answered—by this administration.

It’s not about the sex. It’s about what was REALLY going on in Benghazi and what Team Obama is REALLY covering up. If Benghazi were a terrorist detention facility—and possibly engaging in enhanced interrogation techniques (EITs)—then Obama has quite the policy scandal on his hands.

After all, Obama retained most of President Bush’s counter-terrorism programs….with the exception of detention and EITs. Could it be that Obama and/or the CIA were still carrying out those policies?

This is just the beginning. Get ready for a roller-coaster ride of epic proportions. The families of Chris Stevens, Glen Doherty, Tyrone Woods, and Sean Smith deserve the TRUTH….and so do we. ”

Thank You Dr. Crowley .

Here Fishy Fishy …

” Just when I thought the Petraeus story couldn’t get any weirder, along comes a story in the Wall Street Journal reporting that an FBI official allegedly sent shirtless pictures of himself to Jill Kelley, the Tampa woman who has emerged as a key player in this increasingly bizarre drama: ”

” So that’s strange. But here’s what is truly weird: The emails in question don’t seem to be a big deal.Wired‘s Kim Zetter says they “reportedly told Kelley to ‘back off’ and ‘stay away’ from the unnamed man.” According to the Journal:

The accusatory emails, according to officials, were sent anonymously to an account shared by Ms. Kelley and her husband. Ms. Broadwell allegedly used a variety of email addresses to send the harassing messages to Ms. Kelley, officials said.

One asked if Ms. Kelley’s husband was aware of her actions, according to officials. In another, the anonymous writer claimed to have watched Ms. Kelley touching “him” provocatively underneath a table, the officials said.

A Daily Beast story cites a source “who was until recently at the highest levels of the intelligence community” characterizing the emails as “More like, ‘Who do you think you are? … You parade around the base … You need to take it down a notch.'”

Either way, that doesn’t sound like the kind of thing that merits an FBI investigation, bureau officials’insistence notwithstanding.

One more thing: The New York Daily News spoke with Broadwell’s father, Paul Krantz, who told the paper: “This is about something else entirely, and the truth will come out.”

“There is a lot more that is going to come out,” said Krantz, claiming he was not allowed to elaborate. “You wait and see. There’s a lot more here than meets the eye.”

I suspect we’ll know more soon — and I wonder if what we learn will reflect well on the FBI.”

This case gets more odiferous by the day .

And Again , We Ask , Who Is Jill Kelley ?

“They had to have known and for them to say they were intercepting e-mails and reading the CIA Director emails and not reporting that to the White House is bull… what the DNI should have done should have done is call him and say ‘What is this? What is this? What is going on here?’ instead of waiting… They are not telling the truth. They get pants on fire award. The White House is not telling the truth. It is politically engineered by all of you would not be reading the doing the investigation in the diameter of the justice without informing the white house. They are lying.” – Gary Bernsten, Former CIA Operative”

FBI Searches Paula Broadwell’s Home

How do a few emails that were “not specific enough to warrant criminal charges”  justify this continuing witch hunt on the part of the FBI , which by the way , just happens to be part of Eric Holder’s ” Justice ” Department ?

They’ve already established that Broadwell sent the “not specific enough to warrant criminal charges” emails so why the continued harassment and investigation if it was not a prosecutable offence ?

” The quiet at Paula Broadwell’s home in Dilworth was broken late Monday as FBI agents searched her family’s home for more than four hours.

Two dark sedans and two minivans pulled onto Mount Vernon Avenue around 8:40 p.m. Monday.

Agents went from room to room, appearing through the thinly-curtained downstairs carrying notepads. Camera flashes burst through the windows of the darkened second-floor.

Nearly four-and-a-half hours later, around 1:15 a.m., ten agents filed out of the two-story brick home with boxes, hard-drives and a bulky briefcase. ”
