” Terrorist attacks and resulting deaths increased sharply last year, according to statistics made public Thursday by the director of national intelligence.
“ When the final counting is done, 2014 will have been the most lethal year for global terrorism in the 45 years such data has been compiled,” DNI Director James Clapper told Congress, adding that about half of all attacks took place in three states: Iraq, Pakistan, and Afghanistan.
Last year from January to September, around 13,000 terror attacks were carried out, killing 31,000 people. By contrast, in 2013, 22,000 people were killed in terrorist violence in over 11,500 attacks, Clapper disclosed during a wide-ranging world threat briefing before the Senate Armed Services Committee.
More than 3,400 foreign jihadists have joined the al Qaeda offshoot known as the Islamic State (IS) that is showing signs of establishing its own nation state, Clapper said.
The DNI also testified that IS (also known as ISIL or ISIS) is expanding outside Iraq and Syria into the Arabian Peninsula, North Africa, and South Asia. The group also is planning terror attacks on Western interests and against Shiite Muslims, he said.”
Contrast the Obama administration’s own DNI chief’s testimony with his boss’s statement of just a few months ago wherein “President Peace Prize” asserted that the “world has never been safer”. Read more .
” So much for national unity:
Just a day after the Charlie Hebdo shooting left 12 dead and had politicians calling for the country to unite, a row between politicians broke out after the National Front were not invited to take part in Sunday’s rally for “national unity” in Paris.
In the most recent national election in France, Marine Le Pen’s National Front won. So the national unity rally excludes the most popular national party. That seems likely to work.
~The French establishment is co-opting these brave men’s deaths for their own purposes, and for the most part the world’s media are helping them get away with it. I spent much of Thursday on TV and radio, and my irritation with the dismal #JeSuisCharlie campaign increased as the day wore on. The self-flattering evasiveness of all those cartoonists around the world offering lame variations of “the pen is mightier than the sword” was especially feeble. The cartoon at right, by Chimulus (Michel Faizant) of Le Nouvel Observateur, at least confronts the ugly truth of Wednesday morning, rather than tippy-toeing around it:
Mohammed publishes a comic strip on the death of Charb.
With plenty of boxes.
The only problem? Chimulus drew that two years ago – December 31st 2012. This week, when his remarkably prescient cartoon came true, his courage deserted him.
~As to those TV and radio appearances, first up was with Joyce Kaufman at 850 WFTL in Florida, which you can hear by clicking here. It was a lively ride: as Scaramouche says, “Made my day.” “
Read it all and treat yourself to a second helping of Mr Steyn’s blistering attacks on Western hypocrisy , the opening of which is here:
” The French authorities killed three murderous savages yesterday. That was the only good news on a day in which a third hostage siege began in Montpellier. The bad news started at the top, with President Hollande’s statement after the Charlie Hebdo slaughter and the Kosher grocery siege:
Those who committed these acts have nothing to do with the Muslim religion.
Yeah, right. I would use my standard line on these occasions – “Allahu Akbar” is Arabic for “Nothing to see here” – but it’s not quite as funny when the streets are full of cowards, phonies and opportunists waving candles and pencils and chanting “Je suis Charlie.” Because if you really were Charlie, if you really were one of the 17 Frenchmen and women slaughtered in the name of Allah in little more than 48 hours, you’d utterly despise a man who could stand up in public and utter those words.”
” President Obama did something extraordinary, perhaps unprecedented, in his post-election news conference Wednesday: He claimed a mandate on behalf of voters who didn’t vote.
” To everyone who voted, I want you to know that I hear you,” the president said. “To the two-thirds of voters who chose not to participate in the process yesterday, I hear you, too.”
What did that mean? What did those non-voters say?
It would probably be more useful to ask what the president heard. And apparently Obama heard expressions of support from non-voters across the land.
The president explained that many more voters turned out when he was elected, and then re-elected, than in Tuesday’s midterms that left Republicans firmly in control of House and Senate. “One of the things that I’m very proud of in 2008 and 2012, when I ran for office, was we got people involved who hadn’t been involved before,” Obama said. “Part of what I also think we’ve got to look at is that two-thirds of people who were eligible to vote just didn’t vote.” “
This collection of tweets says it all , among them this one stands out …
” Hey, Obama, the two thirds who stayed home don’t like you either–you’ve alienated them from politics by betraying their hopes in you
— Dinesh D’Souza (@DineshDSouza) November 6, 2014 “
” No event on Earth generates more spin than a disaster.
And so it was in the midst of Tuesday’s carnage and the hungover aftermath. In the hours since the GOP took the Senate, the worser hacks of the progressive movement have emerged in print and television, where they have gnashed their terrible teeth and rolled their terrible eyes and shown their terrible excuses for why they had so decisively lost.
So here, The Daily Caller presents the top three spins floating around on the Internet, from dumbest to stupidest:
1) President Barack Obama Is Just Too Damn Smart For All Of You Idiots (Democrats Included), Courtesy Of The National Journal
People who take the time to read the National Journal were in for a real treat Wednesday morning, when they were taught that the problem with 2014 is that Mr. Obama is a sort of philosopher king, suited not for the world of campaigning and technology, but for some misty Avalon, where “deliberation, nuance, [and] reason” protect him from all that sham and drudgery of the campaign trail.
This thought is from National Journal’s White House correspondent– the man they charge with accurately reporting on the president.”

Pelosi Taken Apart By David Gregory On False Obamacare Promises
We have to give David Gregory some small measure of credit today . He took a very hard line on the “if you like it , you can keep it” meme that the Dem’s have been singing from the rooftops for the past three years and pushed , pulled and prodded Nancy Pelosi in an effort to get her to own up to the lie , all to no avail . Ms Pelosi was the obstinate denier to the end , employing every verbal contortion imaginable … she comes off as nothing more than a little Goebbels … ” if I just keep repeating it long enough maybe someone will believe me” . What arrogance , what hypocrisy .
One was left with the impression that even Gregory wanted to reach across the table , grab the little fabricator by the throat and call her a liar . We know that was how we felt .

” Some members of Congress apparently don’t like to be reminded about how much debt the country continues to rack up.California Rep. Maxine Waters and Minnesota Rep. Keith Ellison both issued complaints about the displays, according to video of the hearing.”
What Happens If Obama Loses?
” The Politico takes an interesting look at what kind of blamestorming will occur if Obama loses on Tuesday
A defeat for Barack Obama on
Tuesday would be no ordinary loss
It would be a traumatic experience: the death of the dream of liberal realignment embodied in Obama’s insurgent 2008 campaign. And it would be all the more distressing to Democrats because so many of them fervently believe they will win tomorrow. “
“The office of the Director of National Intelligence is both confirming that the attack on the US consulate in Benghazi was deliberately planned in advance and excusing the White House for getting the story wrong. Officials are trying to determine if a mysterious, little known organization called “Al-Qaeda” had something to do with the attack. This doesn’t seem likely, as Al-Qaeda was reported dead or at least in what former Vice President Cheney would have called its “death throes” in Pakistan last spring, but you never know.”
“The party of government refuses to even entertain the possibility that we can no longer afford it”
“The speeches at last night’s kickoff of the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte were notable less for what they contained and more for what they did not: any engagement with the issue of having a debt load (of $16 trillion) that is now larger than GDP, of having a long-forecasted entitlement time bomb marching northward toward 100 percent of federal spending, of having underfunded obligations in the trillions of dollars promised by politicians addicted to handing out “free” benefits.”
“The man with no plan.”
“Our elites have sunk into a boutique decadence of moral preening entirely disconnected from reality: A non-homophobic chicken in every pot, an abortifacient dispenser in every Catholic university, a high-speed-rail corridor between every two bankrupt California municipalities . . . “
What a moron . Why would anyone pay for this dolt’s opinions ?
“David Frum at The Daily Beast uses his frustration about the lack of gun control momentum in the aftermath of the Aurora shootings, to take an incoherent swipe at the Republicans attention to the Fast and Furious scandal.
“The right-wing theory of the
case in the Fast & Furious
scandal is that the Obama
administration hoped to
generate demand for gun
control in the United States by
allowing the export of deadly
guns to Mexico.Yet demand for gun control does not respond even to mass murders inside the United
States. If you were a secret gun-
snatcher, would you ever
imagine that gun crime inside
Mexico would produce a better
result? More plausible conspiracy
theories, please.” “
