States With The Most People On Food Stamps

” With grocery bills priced as high as $1,300 per month as of late, some American workers simply cannot afford all of their groceries on top of everything else they already have to buy. This is why the government offers food stamps.

The USDA Food and Nutrition Service reports that as of September 2014, there were around 46.5 million individual food stamp recipients (22.7 million households) receiving an average benefit of $123.74 each (around $257 per household).

To be eligible, a household has to earn a gross income amount that’s less than 130% of the poverty level, or a net income amount (gross income minus deductions) that’s less than 100% of the poverty level for their family size.

This means, a single person can be eligible for food stamps if his or her gross monthly income is under $1,265 ($15,180 per year), and a family of four can be eligible if they gross less than $2,584 per month ($31,008 per year). The applicant also can’t be a wealthy person who simply doesn’t have a steady income source. So, if the applicant has thousands of dollars sitting in the bank, for instance, they won’t apply as cash assets are considered as well.”

And the “winner” is … our nation’s capital …

” 1. District of Columbia

• Number of food stamp recipients: 144,768

• Percentage of the state’s population on food stamps: 21.97%

• Total cost of just these benefits alone (That is, how much do just the money on those EBT cards cost the state?): Around $18 million

• Estimated cost of benefits alone per capita in this state: $27.19 per person “

Our nation’s capital is a true study in contrasts , the highest percentage of food stamp recipients along with the richest suburbs in the nation .

Mother And Daughter Weigh A Total Of 43 Stone And Get £34k A Year Handouts, But Refuse To Diet

” A mother and daughter who get £34,000 a year in handouts because they are too fat to work say they’d rather be happy and on benefits than depressed and thin

Janice and Amber Manzur weigh a total of 43 stone and are so overweight they have to use mobility scooters as their weight means to get around.

But both women refuse to diet and mother-of-two Ms Manzur, 44, insists: “I’d rather my daughter live life on benefits being fat and happy than depressed and thin.”

Ms Manzur lives in a three-bedroom house that has been customised by the council to accommodate her disability and drives a Fiat Quibo disability car worth around £15,000.

Ms Manzur said: “There’s no point in dieting, it doesn’t make a difference.”

This is the inevitable result of the culture of dependence fostered by the Leviathan State … and for those who inhabit the world of the pound , a stone is equivalent to 14 pounds or 6.35 kilograms … do the math and you get 602 lbs between the two layabouts .

The Fiscal Cost Of Unlawful Immigrants And Amnesty To The U.S. Taxpayer

Immigration Costs 2013 - Table 4

” Unlawful immigration and amnesty for current unlawful immigrants can pose large fiscal costs for U.S. taxpayers. Government provides four types of benefits and services that are relevant to this issue:

  • Direct benefits. These include Social Security, Medicare, unemployment insurance, and workers’ compensation.
  • Means-tested welfare benefits. There are over 80 of these programs which, at a cost of nearly $900 billion per year, provide cash, food, housing, medical, and other services to roughly 100 million low-income Americans. Major programs include Medicaid, food stamps, the refundable Earned Income Tax Credit, public housing, Supplemental Security Income, and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families.
  • Public education. At a cost of $12,300 per pupil per year, these services are largely free or heavily subsidized for low-income parents.
  • Population-based services. Police, fire, highways, parks, and similar services, as the National Academy of Sciences determined in its study of the fiscal costs of immigration, generally have to expand as new immigrants enter a community; someone has to bear the cost of that expansion.

The cost of these governmental services is far larger than many people imagine. For example, in 2010, the average U.S. household received $31,584 in government benefits and services in these four categories.

The governmental system is highly redistributive. Well-educated households tend to be net tax contributors: The taxes they pay exceed the direct and means-tested benefits, education, and population-based services they receive. For example, in 2010, in the whole U.S. population, households with college-educated heads, on average, received $24,839 in government benefits while paying $54,089 in taxes. The average college-educated household thus generated a fiscal surplus of $29,250 that government used to finance benefits for other households.

Other households are net tax consumers: The benefits they receive exceed the taxes they pay. These households generate a “fiscal deficit” that must be financed by taxes from other households or by government borrowing. For example, in 2010, in the U.S. population as a whole, households headed by persons without a high school degree, on average, received $46,582 in government benefits while paying only $11,469 in taxes. This generated an average fiscal deficit (benefits received minus taxes paid) of $35,113.

The high deficits of poorly educated households are important in the amnesty debate because the typical unlawful immigrant has only a 10th-grade education. Half of unlawful immigrant households are headed by an individual with less than a high school degree, and another 25 percent of household heads have only a high school degree.

Some argue that the deficit figures for poorly educated households in the general population are not relevant for immigrants. Many believe, for example, that lawful immigrants use little welfare. In reality, lawful immigrant households receive significantly more welfare, on average, than U.S.-born households. Overall, the fiscal deficits or surpluses for lawful immigrant households are the same as or higher than those for U.S.-born households with the same education level. Poorly educated households, whether immigrant or U.S.-born, receive far more in government benefits than they pay in taxes. “

The Day After Labor

” To all our American readers, Happy Labor Day! And to all our Canadian readers, Happy Labour Day! That’s what the day used to be about: putting the “u” in Labor. You can’t spell labour without you, and without you and your labour this planet would be a primitive state of nature, red in tooth and claw. Consider the words of Peter J McGuire, General Secretary of the Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners, proposing the very first Labor Day a mere century-and-a-third ago. The new day would be an occasion, he said, to honor those “who from rude nature have delved and carved all the grandeur we behold”.

What a crazy! All the grandeur we behold comes from man and his work? What fossil fuel is he inhaling? Today, rude nature is the state we aspire to, and you can’t even delve and carve a Keystone pipeline underneath it, out of sight. Labor itself, in the sense Mr McGuire used the term, is morally dubious among our elites, and, down at the other end, simply unknown. A statistic from my book After America, personally autographed copies of which are exclusively available from the SteynOnline bookstore and which help support my campaign against Nobel fraud Michael Mann’s rude nature, into which I hope to be carving a hearty “up yours”…

Whoops, sorry. Where was I? Ah, yes. A quote from After America:

One fifth of British children are raised in homes in which no adult works. Just under 900,000 people have been off sick for over a decade, claiming “sick benefits”, week in, week out for ten years and counting.

By 2012, one tenth of the adult population had done not a day’s work since Tony Blair took office on May 1st 1997 – a decade and a half earlier. In such households, the weekday ritual of rising, dressing, and leaving for gainful employment is entirely unknown. In Ferguson, Missouri, the “conversation”, as they say on MSNBC, is between the dependent class and the governing class that ministers to them and keeps them in line. If you’re a convenience store owner, your low-skilled service jobs are the only labor on offer, and, for your pains, you get burned and looted by the dependent class while your 911 calls go unanswered by the governing class, both of which you fund.

Now there’s a glimpse of the world to come, for those who wish to ponder it. Of course, nothing dates quicker than the future, as I suggested in this Labour Day column from Canada’s National Post twelve years ago:

This Labour Day, I thought about the working class, the masses.

No, honestly, I did. Okay, I was on the beach, but the folks around me lying on the sand had jobs they’ll be getting back to this morning. They worked. They would be classed as workers. But they’re not an homogeneous “working class”, they’re not conscripts in Karl Marx’s “masses”. The transformation of Labor Day, from a celebration of workers’ solidarity to a cook-out, is the perfect précis of the history of Anglo-American capitalism. “

The 35.4 Percent: 109,631,000 On Welfare

” 109,631,000 Americans lived in households that received benefits from one or more federally funded “means-tested programs” — also known as welfare — as of the fourth quarter of 2012, according to data released Tuesday by the Census Bureau.

The Census Bureau has not yet reported how many were on welfare in 2013 or the first two quarters of 2014.

But the 109,631,000 living in households taking federal welfare benefits as of the end of 2012, according to the Census Bureau, equaled 35.4 percent of all 309,467,000 people living in the United States at that time.

When those receiving benefits from non-means-tested federal programs — such as Social Security, Medicare, unemployment and veterans benefits — were added to those taking welfare benefits, it turned out that 153,323,000 people were getting federal benefits of some type at the end of 2012.

Subtract the 3,297,000 who were receiving veterans’ benefits from the total, and that leaves 150,026,000 people receiving non-veterans’ benefits.

The 153,323,000 total benefit-takers at the end of 2012, said the Census Bureau, equaled 49.5 percent of the population. The 150,026,000 taking benefits other than veterans’ benefits equaled about 48.5 percent of the population. “

Dozens Of Shootings In Chicago Over Holiday Weekend

” The long Fourth of July weekend in Chicago was riven by violence, with dozens of shootings across the city. Since Thursday afternoon, when the holiday weekend began in earnest, at least 82 people were shot, 14 of them killed, according to the Chicago Tribune:

Many of the long weekend’s shootings were on the South Side, clustered in the Englewood, Roseland, Gresham and West Pullman neighborhoods that rank among the most violent in the city.

The victims ranged from the 14-year-boy shot by police in the Old Irving Park neighborhood to a 66-year-old woman grazed in the head as she walked up the steps of her porch on the Far South Side. Most victims were in their late teens and 20s.

Nearly all of the people shot and killed were black or Hispanic men, the Chicago Sun-Times noted, which speaks to a larger issue nationwide: Black people are much, much more likely to be killed by gunfire than white people. The Department of Justice reported that in 2010, the rate of firearm homicides for black people was 14.6 per 100,000 people and the rate for Hispanic people was about 4 per 100,000. By comparison, the rate for white people was 1.9 per 100,000.

This is hardly a new thing as the video report of last year’s Independence day violence can attest …

The death toll in 2013 was 12 while those wounded numbered 72 . This is the price to be paid for glorifying the thug life and for decades of liberal policies . Clarke: Liberal Policies Have Destroyed The Black Family

SheriffDavidClarke

” The latest attempt by liberals to help black people is underway in our K-12 urban public schools.

These do-gooders are now defining down socially acceptable behavior for black students in school. Bad behavior is being excused and attempts to hold black kids accountable by enforcing codes of conduct are called racist.

Having a sense of discipline has always been considered a virtue, a redeeming quality, but now its roots are claimed to lie in racism.

White liberal elites have chimed in about school codes of conduct.

The Capital Times newspaper of Madison, Wis., recently chronicled bad behavior by black students in its public schools. In the story, Secretary of Education Arne Duncan said that racial discrimination in school discipline codes “is a real problem today.”

The white superintendent of the Madison public schools believes that “we need to address head-on our racial bias and the assumptions we make of students who are in the classroom.”

Really? Where I come from, bad behavior has always been unacceptable and is codified not by race but by societal norms to keep chaos from reigning.

These watered-down student codes of conduct sweeping across urban public school systems will not help black parents, kids or communities. Like every other display of liberal empathy, they will have a reverse effect, and it will not be positive.

All anti-social behavior and social pathology is normalized, and to disagree is racial stereotyping. What these race provocateurs do not want to admit is the reason we are seeing more disruptive behavior in schools is because of poor and ineffective parenting, manifested by liberal policies.

There is a government program today for everything in the black community that used to be the responsibility of the individual, such as parenting. Because of this system, many parents have abdicated what is their most important responsibility and turned it over to the government.

Uncle Sam is now raising their kids. “

Study: Income Inequality Greater, Growing Faster In Blue States

” President Obama has said that reducing the growing gap between high and low income earners is one of his top domestic priorities. But a new study finds that residents of states that voted for Obama in 2012 “are experiencing more income inequality than people in other states.”

“ Income inequality is worse in blue states, and has also grown more quickly in those areas over the past 10 years,” according to the study, entitled “Blue states have the income-inequality blues,” by Richard Barrington, senior financial analyst at MoneyRates.com.

CNSNews.com previously reported that a Brookings Institute study found that the highest levels of income inequality in the nation were in large cities that overwhelmingly voted for President Obama’s reelection in 2012.”

‘Be Open-Handed Toward Your Brothers’

” Conservatives eager to reverse these facts naturally reach for their checkbooks. As I found in my 2006 book Who Really Cares, the average conservative household contributes significantly more to charity than does the average liberal household despite earning less income. According to the 1996 General Social Survey, those who strongly agreed that “the government has a responsibility to reduce income inequality” gave away $140 on average to charity. Among those who strongly disagreed, the average gift was $1,637.

Of the 10 most charitable states in 2012, as ranked by the Chronicle of Philanthropy, nine went for Romney over Obama. Three times as many red states as blue states placed in the top 20 states in giving. And all but one of the 10 least charitable states swung President Obama’s way.

Why do conservatives give more? The research shows that the largest charity differences owe to religious participation. We see that religious liberals are approximately as generous as their conservative co-religionists. But there are far more religious conservatives today than religious liberals, so the political gap persists.”

Arthur Brooks has written a definitive piece on the nature of charity and benevolence in the hands of private citizenry as compared to the liberal demand for government-mandated beneficence  . This lengthy essay is worth every minute of your time as it explains in great detail how conservatives and their private giving is so much more effective than the liberal’s demands of charity at the point of a gun .

Big Government Doesn’t Work … Never Has , Never Will

” People shouldn’t be surprised about the botched roll-out of Obamacare and all the damaging effects of the law that are now generating headlines. Over the decades, federal efforts to subsidize and manipulate the economy have failed over and over again.

That lesson has been driven home to me in researching Downsizing Government. Farm policies, for example, have been an ongoing boondoggle for more than eight decades. President Herbert Hoover’s Federal Farm Board blew $500 million trying to stabilize crop markets, but it did the opposite by inducing overproduction and depressing prices. Every farm bill since then—including the one moving through Congress right now—has been based on two very dumb ideas: that farm businesses need welfare and that agriculture needs government central planning.

I recently came across “The Sickness of Government,” (PDF) a 1969 essay by famed management theorist Peter Drucker. It is strikingly relevant to the problems we see in Washington today from Obamacare, to farm programs, to IRS abuse, to NSA spying. Unlike, say, Ayn Rand–who at the time was writing about government from the standpoint of individual freedom–Drucker was writing from the practical perspective that Big Government simply wasn’t working.

Modern government has become ungovernable. There is no government today that can still claim control of its bureaucracy and of its various agencies. Government agencies are all becoming autonomous, ends in themselves, and directed by their own desire for power, their own narrow vision rather than by national policy.” “

In simple terms , big government runs contrary to human nature . Competition , ambition and self-interest are the motors of the human spirit and government is the antithesis of all . Big government , by it’s very nature , contradicts the natural order of things as it attempts to do FOR the individual that which should be done BY the individual .

IS THERE A WAY OUT?

” According to a recent Fox News poll, 73 percent of Americans are dissatisfied with the direction of the country, up 20 points from 2012. Americans sense that there’s a lot going wrong in our nation, but most don’t have a clue about the true nature of our problem. If they had a clue, most would have little stomach for what would be necessary to arrest our national decline. Let’s look at it.

Between two-thirds and three-quarters of federal spending, in contravention of the U.S. Constitution, can be described as Congress taking the earnings or property of one American to give to another, to whom it does not belong. You say, “Williams, what do you mean?” Congress has no resources of its very own. Moreover, there’s no Santa Claus or tooth fairy who gives it resources. The fact that Congress has no resources of its very own forces us to recognize that the only way Congress can give one American one dollar is to first — through intimidation, threats and coercion — confiscate that dollar from some other American through the tax code.”

Our first graph demonstrates how the gross federal debt has ballooned from approximately 57% of the GDP in 1960 to nearly 107% in 2013 . Can you say Greece anyone ?

” If any American did privately what Congress does publicly, he’d be condemned as an ordinary thief. Taking what belongs to one American to give to another is theft, and the receiver is a recipient of stolen property. Most Americans would suffer considerable anguish and cognitive dissonance seeing themselves as recipients of stolen property, so congressional theft has to be euphemized and given a respectable name. That respectable name is “entitlement.” Merriam-Webster defines entitlement as “the condition of having a right to have, do, or get something.” For example, I am entitled to walk into the house that I own. I am entitled to drive the car that I own. The challenging question is whether I am also entitled to what you or some other American owns.”

This graph shows overall growth in government spending from 1962 to 2010. As the reader can see federal spending has increased nearly five-fold in the past half century while tax revenues have actually declined as a percentage of GDP over the same period . See graph below .

” Let’s look at a few of these entitlements.”

The graph above shows the explosive grow of entitlement spending over the past 50 years.

” More than 40 percent of federal spending is for entitlements for the elderly in the forms of Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, housing and other assistance programs. The Office of Management and Budget calculates that total entitlement spending comes to about 62 percent of federal spending. “

As the article and above graphs show we are in debt up to our eye-balls and beyond , and even though the facts are there for all to see , Americans in general seem to be willfully blind to the impending collapse and it is less the certain that the public will develop the will to meet this issue head-on and resolve to do what is necessary to save our Republic .

” Can you imagine what the American people would do to a presidential candidate who’d declare, as James Madison did in a 1794 speech to the House of Representatives, “Charity is no part of the legislative duty of the government”? “

Read Mr Williams’ entire article .

The Tea Party

” Each of the great civilizations in the world passed through a series of stages from their birth to their decline to their death. Historians have listed these in ten stages.”

1) The first stage moves from bondage to spiritual faith.

2) The second from spiritual faith to great courage.

3) The third stage moves from great courage to liberty.

4) The fourth stage moves from liberty to abundance.

5) The fifth stage moves from abundance to selfishness.

6) The sixth stage moves from selfishness to complacency.

7) The seventh stage moves from complacency to apathy.

8) The eighth stage moves from apathy to moral decay.

9) The ninth stage moves from moral decay to dependence.

10) And the tenth and last stage moves from dependence to bondage.

Where would you say America is?

In doing a bit of research we have found the range of stages of societal decline to be anywhere from 7 to 10 with 9 being the most commonly agreed upon number . The list itself seems to be attributable to Sir Alex Fraser Tytler: (1742-1813) Scottish jurist and historian.

The average age of the world’s greatest civilizations has been two hundred years.
These nations have progressed through this sequence:

1. From bondage to spiritual faith;
2. from spiritual faith to great courage;
3. from courage to liberty;
4. from liberty to abundance;
5. from abundance to selfishness;
6. from selfishness to complacency;
7. from complacency to apathy;
8. from apathy to dependence;
9. from dependency back again into bondage.”

Wikipedia , however , offers this refutation of the claim that Tyler originated this progression of decline :

” There is no reliable record of Alexander Tytler’s having made the statement.[12] In fact, this passage actually comprises two quotations, which didn’t begin to appear together until the 1970s. The first portion (italicized above) first appeared on December 9, 1951,[13] as part of what appears to be an op-ed piece in The Daily Oklahoman under the byline Elmer T. Peterson.[14] The original version from Peterson’s op-ed is as follows:

Two centuries ago, a somewhat obscure Scotsman named Tytler made this profound observation: “A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the majority discovers it can vote itself largess out of the public treasury. After that, the majority always votes for the candidate promising the most benefits with the result the democracy collapses because of the loose fiscal policy ensuing, always to be followed by a dictatorship, then a monarchy.”

The list beginning “From bondage to spiritual faith” is commonly known as the “Tytler Cycle” or the “Fatal Sequence”. Its first known appearance is in a 1943 speech “Industrial Management in a Republic”[15] by H. W. Prentis, president of the Armstrong Cork Company and former president of the National Association of Manufacturers, and appears to be original to him.”

Here we have a more comprehensive examination of the history of the above quote from Loren CollinsThe Truth About Tytler.

It would appear to us however , that regardless of who is responsible for formulating the aforementioned progression of man’s continual cycle of bondage to freedom to bondage , there is no denying the facts of the progression itself . Nor is there any basis for denial of where the United States happens to be in the downward spiral back to barbarism and serfdom .

Reasonable people may argue whether we are in stage 6 or stage 8 but there is no doubt whatsoever that we are coasting along the downward path and the times of courage and liberty and abundance are only visible in the rearview mirror and getting smaller by the day .

Since The RINO’s Caved On Spending Can We Expect Any Less On Amnesty And Pork ?

” Fresh off his no-compromise victory against Republicans during the one-sixth government shutdown, the president has some more divisive issues in store for the American people. Wow, what a shock.

Among these: amnesty for illegal immigrants, passing a $3.8 trillion budget, raising taxes, and more kickbacks for Democrat allies. Anybody really surprised about this coming from the “professional activist” president?

Here’s a novel idea: Why don’t we let the American people determine their own agenda for a change, instead of giving more power to corrupt and inept Washington politicians to do it for us?”

” Tonight on the Glenn Beck Program, Glenn welcomed three guests who were armed with the facts about gun rights and the history of the Second Amendment. Star Parker, founder of the Coalition on Urban Renewal and Education, actor Joseph Phillips, and writer and activist Kira Ayn Davis all discussed the impact of gun control legislation on the African American community.

From the very beginning, the three panelists all focused on how gun control has been used as a tool to keep the African American community out of power.

“The Democrats have never changed their strategy. They want people unarmed, uneducated and dependent on whoever that master is. Whether it’s the master that time in slavery or the master that keeps them enslaved to the welfare state,” Star Parker told Glenn.”

Forbes Lists America’s 20 ‘Most Miserable Cities’; Guess What The Vast Majority Have in Common?

Believe it or not , this is no third world slum ... This is Detroit

” Forbes just published its 20 Most Miserable Cities List for 2013. The magazine left off several obviously more “worthy” contenders, perhaps because its decisions to include and exclude certain criteria were, to say the least, more than a little odd.

I have listed the magazine’s top twenty following the jump, along with each city’s mayor and that person’s political leanings, showing a commonality the magazine’s Kurt Badenhausen failed to observe:

20. Youngstown, Ohio — Charles P. Sammarone, Democrat
19. Gary, Indiana — Karen Freeman-Wilson, Democrat
18. Poughkeepsie, New York — John C. Tkazyik, Republican
17. Cleveland, Ohio — Frank Jackson, Democrat
16. Atlanta, Georgia — Kasim Reed, Democrat
15. Atlantic City, New Jersey — Lorenzo Langford, Democrat
14. Milwaukee, Wisconsin — Tom Barrett, Democrat
13. Camden, New Jersey — Dana Redd, Democrat
12. St. Louis, Missouri — Francis Slay, Democrat
11. Toledo, Ohio — Michael Bell, ran as an independent but is a lifelong Democrat
10. New York, New York — Michael Bloomberg, Nanny State “Independent” since 2007; Democrat before 2001; ran as a Republican in 2001 just to get a spot on the ballot.
9. Waukegan, Illinois — Robert G. Sabonjian, Democrat (see first paragraph following this list)
8. Stockton, California — Anthony Silva, a Republican sworn into office by Democrat and former California Assembly Speaker Willie Brown.
7. Warren, Michigan — James Fouts, Republican

Do You Live In A Death Spiral State

” Don’t buy a house in a state where private sector workers are outnumbered by folks dependent on government.

Thinking about buying a house? Or a municipal bond? Be careful where you put your capital. Don’t put it in a state at high risk of a fiscal tailspin.

Eleven states make our list of danger spots for investors. They can look forward to a rising tax burden, deteriorating state finances and an exodus of employers. The list includes California, New York, Illinois and Ohio, along with some smaller states like New Mexico and Hawaii.”

If your career takes you to Los Angeles or Chicago, don’t buy a house. Rent.

Elderly Lose Milk and Butter Because Of Rising Cost Of Muslim Immigrants

” This story is about a municipality in Sweden, but it could be about any number of countries in Europe, and for that matter it could also be about the United States.

Muslim immigration leads to high costs in violence and welfare, and the elderly end up suffering as all the money goes to pay for integration course for violent Muslim teens and their father and his four wives and their nineteen kids.

The money has to go somewhere and the social safety net paid into by the natives is embezzled, hijacked and looted to pay for the medical and criminal expenses of the Islamic colonists and settlers.”

The Cloward-Piven Way

” If the Cloward and Piven agenda were being implemented, would it look any different?

In all likelihood, they would be delighted with the massive deficits and the “spillage” that is the lax implementation of government entitlements.

1966 Article by Columbia Professors Cloward and Piven was a hot topic for awhile, but has since fell from attention.  But isn’t now the time to reconsider exactly how this administration is steering people into record government program participation?

Some quotes from the 1966 article that reveal the mission.  Increase the entitlement roles, redistribute wealth, guarantee income, and reduce qualifications for participating in these programs.  Use organizing, demonstrating and a “climate of militancy”.”

ICE Union Head On Deporting Welfare-Dependents: ‘We Are Not Permitted To Enforce That Statute. Period’

” The legal prohibition on new immigrants becoming primarily reliant on government assistance for subsistence — or public charges — is never enforced, Chris Crane, an ICE agent and president of the ICE agent’s union told reporters on a conference call Thursday afternoon.

“It is certainly part of what we are supposed to be doing, it is definitely a federal statute within the [Immigration and Nationality Act],” he said when asked about the enforcement of the century-old public charge restriction. “However I will say this: that in my career, I have never seen or heard of the charge being applied in any case to anyone.”

Crane — whose union is in the midst of a lawsuit against Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, ICE Director John Morton, and U.S. Customs and Immigration Services Director Alejandro Mayorkas over the administration’s changes to immigration policy — noted that even officers who have been in the agency longer than his ten years have told him they have never seen or heard it employed.”
