Presbyterians Vote To Divest In Protest Against Israel

” The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) on Friday became the most prominent religious group in the United States to endorse divestment as a protest against Israeli policies toward Palestinians, voting to sell church stock in three companies whose products Israel uses in the occupied territories.

The General Assembly voted by a razor-thin margin — 310-303 — to sell stock in Caterpillar, Hewlett-Packard, and Motorola Solutions. Two years ago, the General Assembly rejected a similar divestment proposal by two votes.

The American Jewish Committee, a policy and advocacy group based in New York, said the vote was “driven by hatred of Israel.” But Heath Rada, moderator for the church meeting, said immediately after the vote that “in no way is this a reflection of our lack of love for our Jewish brothers and sisters.”

The decision is expected to reverberate beyond the 1.8 million-member church. It comes amid discouragement over failed peace talks that have left activists desperate for some way to affect change and as the broader movement known as BDS — or boycott, divestment and sanctions against Israel — has gained some momentum in the U.S., Israel’s closest and most important ally.

Presbyterians who advocated for divestment insisted their action was not part of the broader boycott movement. Israeli officials, along with many American Jewish groups, denounced the campaign as an attempt to delegitimize the Jewish state. Separately, the assembly also voted to re-examine its support for a two-state solution.

In a statement on its Facebook page, the Israeli Embassy in Washington denounced the resolution as “shameful.” “

As if the Church doesn’t have enough problems with declining membership , now it chooses to slit it own throat in the name of , “tolerance” … Jesus H Ch***t .

The Presbyterian church lost me years ago , when I resigned my Eldership as the result of our Pastor , in a board meeting proposing a church trip to boycott Walmart for selling a legal product (guns & ammo) and in the same motion deciding that the church building should be made available for use by the illegal alien community of our town …

Read the whole story of the PresbyterianUSA’s voluntary journey towards extinction here . As with most things involving faith , when you try to be all things to all people you instead end up being nothing to nobody .

Chicago Mayor’s Plan Backfires, Mutual Funds Invest In Gun Companies Anyway

” A few weeks ago Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel wrote letters to several mutual funds asking them to pressure gun companies into embracing newly proposed gun laws, and as it turns out the political pressure hasn’t persuaded the investors to alter their portfolios.

A handful of the mutual funds contacted by Emanuel — Allianz, BlackRock, Vanguard, and Capital World Investments — submitted those forms and reported last week that they would retain ownership of Smith & Wesson and Sturm, Ruger and Company.

According to the documents filed:

Allianz reportedly owns 7.1 percent of Ruger Capital

World Investments owns 6.5 percent of Ruger

Vanguard reportedly owns 7.14 percent of Ruger, and 7.46 percent of Smith & Wesson

BlackRock reportedly owns 7.5 percent of Ruger, and 5.31 percent of Smith & Wesson”
