Federal Regulators Leaked US Electrical Grid Classified Information

DOE Report

” Classified information about the physical security systems of the U.S. electrical grid was leaked by the country’s top energy regulatory commission, according to a government watchdog report.

The Energy Department inspector general reports that classified information about electrical grid security was mishandled by officials on the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), the nation’s grid regulator.

The IG found that at least one FERC presentation contained information that should have been classified, was handled by commission employees who did not have proper clearance and was given to federal and industry representatives in non-classified settings.

” As you are aware, the materials in question raise concerns with the security and integrity of our Nation’s critical energy infrastructure, including the Nation’s power grid,” the IG reported. “We are especially concerned with reports that the document that was not properly classified and may currently be stored on unclassified Commission servers, as well as on current and former Commission employees’ desktop computers, laptops, portable electronic devices, and copiers.”

The report comes in the wake of a Wall Street Journal report that the government was investigating an April 2013 attack on a power substation near San Jose, California where gunmen did millions of dollars’ worth of damage and nearly took out the power to the region.

The more we read of government doings such as this the more we become convinced that these isolated incidents of “lack of oversight” actually constitute a well thought out plan to bring about panic and anarchy in order to get the people to clamor for ever-more heavy handed State actions … It reeks of Alinskyism and Cloward-Piven , not to mention Rahm Emanuel’s famous quip ” Never let a crisis go to waste” … and if a crisis doesn’t exist , create your own .

Report: FBI Warns Of US Govt Breaches Linked To Anonymous Hackers

” In a memo it distributed this week, the FBI warned that a breach of US government systems was “a widespread problem that should be addressed,” according to a Reuters report.

Activist hackers linked to the collective known as Anonymous have secretly accessed U.S. government computers in multiple agencies and stolen sensitive information in a campaign that began almost a year ago, the FBI warned this week.

The hackers exploited a flaw in Adobe Systems Inc’s software to launch a rash of electronic break-ins that began last December, then left “back doors” to return to many of the machines as recently as last month, the Federal Bureau of Investigation said in a memo seen by Reuters.

The memo, distributed on Thursday, described the attacks as “a widespread problem that should be addressed.” It said the breach affected the U.S. Army, Department of Energy, Department of Health and Human Services, and perhaps many more agencies.”

What’s Another $45 Million At The Energy Department?

” The Department of Energy (DOE) announced it is spending $45 million of taxpayer money for 38 different projects for advanced transportation technologies. But private companies should be making these investments on their own to provide the best products available for consumers.

The 38 projects funded by DOE are going to universities, laboratories, and private companiesfor development of more efficient batteries for electric vehicles, advanced fuels and lubricants, efficient heating ventilations and air conditioning systems, and the next generation of lightweight materials to make cars lighter while not compromising safety.

In some instances, the DOE spending is blatant corporate welfare. DOE awarded $1.5 million to Caterpillar, $1.75 million to General Electric, $3 million to 3M Company, and $350,000 to Ford Motor Company. If these companies believe it is valuable to work with the DOE laboratories and universities, they should do so, but there is no need for taxpayers to subsidize them.”

OBAMA SPENT $11.45 MILLION PER ‘GREEN JOB’ CREATED

” In 2008, then-candidate Barack Obama promised to create 5 million “green jobs” if elected president. However, an analysis by the Institute for Energy Research (IER) finds that since 2009, the Department of Energy’s (DOE) $26 billion loan program created just 2,298 permanent jobs, at a cost of $11.45 million per job created.

In his New York Times bestselling book Throw Them All Out, Government Accountability Institute President Peter Schweizer revealed that 80% of Department of Energy loans went to companies owned by or connected to President Barack Obama’s top campaign fundraisers.”

Education Dept. Helps Leak Students’ Personal Data

” States and schools are signing over private data from millions of students to companies and researchers who hope to glean secrets of the human mind.

Nine states have sent dossiers on students —including names, Social Security numbers, hobbies, addresses, test scores, attendance, career goals, and attitudes about school —to a public-private database , according to Reuters. Standardized tests are beginning to incorporate psychological and behavioral assessment. Every state is also building databases to collect and share such information among agencies and companies, and the U.S. Department of Education has recently reinterpreted federal privacy laws so that schools and governments don’t have to tell parents their kids’ information has been shared.

Second, students and their guardians should have full access to their own records, with the ability to correct false information. They also should be informed of and able to opt out of all data-sharing involving their records. Schools need parent consent to give children so much as an aspirin. They should get consent to share a student’s psychological evaluations or test performances.”

Energy Department Networks Hit By Sophisticated Cyber Attack

” Computer networks at the Energy Department were attacked by sophisticated hackers in a major cyber incident two weeks ago and personal information on several hundred employees was compromised by the intruders.

Energy Department officials, along with FBI agents, are investigating the attack on servers at the Washington headquarters. They believe the sophisticated penetration attack was not limited to stealing personal information. There are indications the attackers had other motives, possibly including plans to gain future access to classified and other sensitive information.

No classified information was compromised in the cyber attack, said officials who provided details of the attack to the Washington Free Beacon on condition of anonymity.”

” Staggering Smith Electric may be next Solyndra”

” Smith makes electric powered trucks
favored by the Obama administration, yet
has never turned a profit and is heavily in
debt. Smith originally scheduled its IPO to
seek $125 million in new investment, but
cut that back to only $75 million, then
cancelled the offering outright.
“It is an astonishing disaster and it is likely
the next step might be a Chapter 11
bankruptcy filing,” said Eric Meltzer, a
Philadelphia-based manager of distressed
companies.
The failed IPO is being compared to
Solyndra because it also cancelled an IPO
just before filing for bankruptcy solar
energy company. Solyndra cancelled its
public offering just before filing for
bankruptcy. “

The Backscratchers

Free Beacon on Cronyism in Obamaworld .

“The former head of the Department of Energy’s controversial loan guarantee program held a high-power soiree for Al Gore while interviewing for the position, and invited two of the DOE officials interviewing him to attend, according to recently disclosed emails.

The party, while legal, highlights the tangled web of political and personal connections between the loan office, environmental groups, and venture capitalists involved in many of the projects that received Energy Department loan guarantees.”

Does anyone notice a pattern here ? It pays handsomely to be a friend of Obama .

New disclosures show that one of President Obama’s bundlers is the wife of an executive at an energy company that received a more-than- $1.2 Billion Department of Energy (DOE) loan guarantee for a solar power plant.

Arvia Few is a bundler for the Obama re-election campaign who has promised to raise between $50,000 and $100,000. She began bundling for Obama in the first quarter of
2012.

Her husband , Jason Few , is an executive at a company that has benefited handsomely from the Obama administration’s clean energy spending, records show. ”
