Auschwitz: Drone Video Of Nazi Concentration Camp

Published on Jan 27, 2015

” Drone video shows the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp as it is today – 70 years after it was liberated by Soviet troops. The camp in Poland is now maintained as a World Heritage Site and is visited by thousands of tourists and survivors every year. Auschwitz was the largest camp established by the Germans during World War II. More than a million people – the vast majority of them Jews – died there between 1940, when it was built, and 1945, when it was liberated by the Soviet army.

Railway tracks into Auschwitz-Birkenau – Trains filled with victims from throughout occupied Europe arrived at the camp almost every day between 1942 and the summer of 1944.

Ruins of wooden huts at Birkenau – Birkenau (or Auschwitz II) was erected in 1941 solely as a death camp, the wooden huts are now in ruins with only brick fireplaces and chimneys remaining.

Entrance to Auschwitz I -The wrought-iron sign over the entrance bears the words Arbeit Macht Frei – “Work sets you free”.

Auschwitz I – The brick-built buildings were the former cavalry barracks of the Polish Army.

Courtyard between blocks 10 and 11 at Auschwitz I – Block 11 was called “the Block of Death” by prisoners. Executions took place between Block 10 and Block 11 and posts in the yard were used to string up prisoners by their wrists.

Auschwitz Birkenau is now a museum run by the Polish Culture Ministry, and a Unesco world heritage site.

DJI’s New Inspire 1 Quadcopter Lifts Its Arms To Shoot Stunning 4K Video

” Cinematographers and geeks alike already use DJI drones to shoot some pretty epic aerial photography. Those airborne images and video are about to get a lot better with the company’s newest quadcopter, the Inspire 1, which has a built-in 4k camera. The sleek, streamlined black-and-white drone transforms in mid-air into a V design by lifting its carbon-fiber arms above the camera assembly, allowing the user to shoot unobstructed video in any direction.

The on-board camera can capture 4K video at 24, 25, and 30 fps, and 1080p video at 24, 25, 30, 50, and 60 fps. The Inspire 1 can snap 12-megapixel stills with its 94-degree wide-angle lens — the camera itself rotates a full 360 degrees and can tilt down 125 degrees. It’s also detachable, meaning you can upgrade the camera when a new version comes along.

” We see this as the perfect combination of the Phantom and Spreading Wings series, being able to take off at the touch of a button while simultaneously giving users fine control of the images they capture,” says Frank Wang, DJI CEO and co-founder.

DJI says the drone can fly stable and steady even in strong winds or navigate the indoors without GPS. Inspire 1 uses an optical flow camera that maintains a stereoscopic image of the ground, which helps to prevent it from drifting while you’re trying to record video. “

A beautifully engineered creation , if a little on the pricey side .

Incredible Close-Up Drone Video Of An Erupting Volcano In Iceland

” This epic video isn’t a CGI outtake from Lord of the Rings. It’s proof that a guy with a quadcopter managed to get very, very close to an erupting Icelandic volcano—close enough to melt the face of the GoPro camera that shot the video.

Eric Cheng, director of aerial imaging for drone maker DJI, joined photographer Ragnar Th. Sigurdsson for a last-minute trip to the eruption site in the Bardarbunga volcanic system. Sigurdsson had access to the proper permits and connections with the local authorities to get close enough to send a drone over the eruption.”

” The trip to the volcano had to happen within a day-long window on Sept. 20 when skies would most likely be clear and winds would be blowing in the right direction to avoid exposure to poisonous gases. Cheng wanted to shoot at night, when the glow of the lava would be most prominent. After flying to Iceland, Cheng and Sidurdsson drove about 15 hours from Reykjavik—four of those hours were over rivers and rough terrain that tore the front bumper off of their 4×4.

After driving as far as cars were permitted, about 2 kilometers (1.2 miles) from the main caldera, Cheng launched his quadcopter. The drone is a DJI Phantom 2—an off-the-shelf model costing less than $1,000—toward the volcano. The drone flew out of visual range after a few minutes, and Cheng used a wireless video transmission system, using the video signal to peer virtually through the Phantom’s camera. He recorded the wireless HD video locally. “If the Phantom didn’t make it, at least we would still have the footage,” Cheng said. “

” June 19,2014 10:52 am. I filmed this approx. 10-15 minutes after the fire started . I was filming a friends boat in south bay close by when we saw the smoke coming from The marine groups yard. This was fascinating to watch through my monitor, but having a boat myself,I couldn’t help thinking of how horrible it would be to have your dream boat go up in flames. I’m sure the insurance will replace it, but wow , what a bummer and a hassle.” “

” There is a very big chance that there will be no action to appease the American people with declassified information until after the November 6th elections. Until then, Barack Obama is likely to remain silent on the issue, dodging questions where he can and remaining silent where he can’t: ”
