Government Employees Cause Nearly 60% Of Public Sector Cyber Incidents

Fed Cyber Attacks

” About 58 percent of cyber incidents reported in the public sector were caused by government employees, according to an annual data breach report compiled by Verizon. The findings — stripped of identifying information — do not mention ex-contractor Edward Snowden’s mammoth leak of national secrets.

Even if Snowden’s leaks had been included in the tally of results attributed to insider threats, they wouldn’t have made much of a dent.

” If that were recorded in here, that would be a single event,” said Jay Jacobs, a Verizon senior analyst and co-author of the report.

Most (34 percent) of the insider incidents in the global public sector during the past three years were miscellaneous errors such as emailing documents to the wrong person. Unapproved or malicious use of data by public servants accounted for 24 percent of reported incidents.

Surprisingly, cyberspying and intrusions via security holes in websites, known to be big problems in government, represented less than 1 percent of the situations reported. “

Growing Backlash To Government Surveillance

” From Silicon Valley to the South Pacific, counterattacks to revelations of widespread National Security Agency surveillance are taking shape, from a surge of new encrypted email programs to technology that sprinkles the Internet with red flag terms to confuse would-be snoops.”

” Policy makers, privacy advocates and political leaders around the world have been outraged at the near weekly disclosures from former intelligence contractor Edward Snowden that expose sweeping U.S. government surveillance programs.”

” “Until this summer, people didn’t know anything about the NSA,” said Center for International Security and Cooperation at Stanford University co-director Amy Zegart. “Their own secrecy has come back to bite them.”

Activists are fighting back with high-tech civil disobedience, entrepreneurs want to cash in on privacy concerns, Internet users want to keep snoops out of their computers and lawmakers want to establish stricter parameters.”

Almost Half Of iPhone Apps Peek At Your Private Stuff

” Computer scientists at the University of California, San Diego discovered that nearly half of the mobile apps running on Apple’s iOS operating system have gained access to private data. These findings are based on a study of 130,000 users of jailbroken iOS devices, where users have removed restrictions that keep apps from accessing the iPhone’s operating system.

One might assume that the results are skewed because the study participants were using a jailbroken iPhone. However, the majority of applications in the study were downloaded through Apple’s App Store and were able to access the same information on locked phones as well.

In March, Apple stopped accepting new applications or app updates that access these “unique identifiers,” or privacy invaders. However, the findings suggest that although this update was made to the App Store policy, many apps can still get that information. Unique identifiers allow the creators of the app and advertisers to track a user’s behavior through all the different apps on their devices. Some apps even associate the unique identifier with the user’s email and other personal information.

The researchers developed an app called ProtectMyPrivacy (PMP) that is able to detect what data the other apps running on an iOS device are trying to access. Their application enables users to selectively allow or deny access to information on an app-by-app basis, based on whether they feel the apps need the information to function properly.

The team has also added notifications and recommendations for when an app accesses other privacy-sensitive information, such as a devices’ front and back camera, microphone and photos.”

“We wanted to empower users to take control of their privacy,” said Yuvraj Agarwal, a research scientist in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at UC San Diego who co-authored the study. “The choice should be in users’ hands.”

Government Spying: 1st Verizon, Now The Internet

Internet_Spying

” Washington Post reports U.S. government able to tap the servers of nine Internet companies.”

Here is the Washington Post article: Documents: U.S. mining data from 9 leading Internet firms; companies deny knowledge

An Excerpt :

” The National Security Agency and the FBI are tapping directly into the central servers of nine leading U.S. Internet companies, extracting audio and video chats, photographs, e-mails, documents, and connection logs that enable analysts to track foreign targets, according to a top-secret document obtained by The Washington Post.

The program, code-named PRISM, has not been made public until now. It may be the first of its kind. The NSA prides itself on stealing secrets and breaking codes, and it is accustomed to corporate partnerships that help it divert data traffic or sidestep barriers. But there has never been a Google or Facebook before, and it is unlikely that there are richer troves of valuable intelligence than the ones in Silicon Valley.

If document requiring company to submit phone records for millions of Americans is authentic, it would be the broadest surveillance order known to date

Equally unusual is the way the NSA extracts what it wants, according to the document: “Collection directly from the servers of these U.S. Service Providers: Microsoft, Yahoo, Google, Facebook, PalTalk, AOL, Skype, YouTube, Apple.” “

” Dear American liberals, leftists, social progressives, socialists, Marxists and Obama supporters, et al: We have stuck together since the late 1950’s for the sake of the kids, but the whole of this latest election process has made me realize that I want a divorce. I know we tolerated each other for many years for the sake of future generations, but sadly, this relationship has clearly run its course. Our two ideological sides of America cannot and will not ever agree on what is right for us all, so let’s just end it on friendly terms. We can smile and chalk it up to irreconcilable differences and go our own way. Here is a our separation agreement: –Our two groups can equitably divide up the country by landmass each taking a similar portion. That will be the difficult part, but I am sure our two sides can come to a friendly agreement. After that, it should be relatively easy! Our respective representatives can effortlessly divide other assets since both sides have such distinct and disparate tastes. –We don’t like redistributive taxes so you can keep them. –You are welcome to the liberal judges and the ACLU. –Since you hate guns and war, we’ll take our firearms, the cops, the NRA and the military. –We’ll take the nasty, smelly oil industry and the coal mines, and you can go with wind, solar and biodiesel. –You can keep Oprah, Michael Moore and Rosie O’Donnell. You are, however, responsible for finding a bio-diesel vehicle big enough to move all three of them. –We’ll keep capitalism, greedy corporations, pharmaceutical companies, Wal-Mart and Wall Street. –You can have your beloved lifelong welfare dwellers, food stamps, homeless, homeboys, hippies, druggies and illegal aliens. –We’ll keep the hot Alaskan hockey moms, greedy CEO’s and rednecks. –We’ll keep Bill O’Reilly, and Bibles and give you NBC and Hollywood . –You can make nice with Iran and Palestine and we’ll retain the right to invade and hammer places that threaten us. –You can have the peaceniks and war protesters. When our allies or our way of life are under assault, we’ll help provide them security. –We’ll keep our Judeo-Christian values. –You are welcome to Islam, Scientology, Humanism, political correctness and Shirley McClain. You can also have the U.N. but we will no longer be paying the bill. –We’ll keep the SUV’s, pickup trucks and oversized luxury cars. You can take every Volt and Leaf you can find. –You can give everyone healthcare if you can find any practicing doctors. –We’ll continue to believe healthcare is a luxury and not a right. –We’ll keep “The Battle Hymn of the Republic” and “The National Anthem.” –I’m sure you’ll be happy to substitute “Imagine”, “I’d Like to Teach the World to Sing”, “Kum Ba Ya” or “We Are the World”. –We’ll practice trickle-down economics and you can continue to give trickle up poverty your best shot. –Since it often so offends you, we’ll keep our history, our name and our flag. Would you agree to this? If so, please pass it along to other like-minded liberal and conservative patriots and if you do not agree, just hit delete. In the spirit of friendly parting, I’ll bet you might think about which one of us will need whose help in 15 years. Sincerely, John J. Wall Law Student and an American P.S. Also, please take Ted Turner, Sean Penn, Martin & Charlie Sheen, Barbara Streisand, & ( Hanoi ) Jane Fonda with you. P.S.S. And you won’t have to press 1 for English when you call our country. “

The Shame Of Higher Education

Could someone please explain to us why we should pay 40/50 thousand dollars a year for political indoctrination ?

” The college Republicans at Fordham University were scheduled to hear a talk by Ann Coulter on November 29th. Upon hearing this news, the university president attacked the conservative club that invited her.

Ann Coulter was scheduled to speak at Fordham University on November 29. Her appearance, organized by the conservative club on campus and funded by the school, would have marked the first time this fall a conservative addressed the Fordham student body.

Upon the announcement this week of the event, the conservative club was routinely attacked by others on campus.

Adding to the attacks against the club was the university president, Joseph McShane. Instead of welcoming Ann Coulter and encouraging students to consider her ideas, he issues an email to students, alumni, and faculty blasting the club for inviting her to speak.

He writes that groups area allowed to bring speakers with “diverse viewpoints” and that the school won’t block her fromspeaking, yet he felt compelled to openly attack the conservative group leadership for hosting her.

Here’s the text of the email he sent.”

Benghazi: Help America Find the Truth BEFORE the Election

image

” Despite the extraordinary nature of the event and its immense implications for the War on Terror and for U.S. foreign policy in
general, most mainstream media outlets are devoting little or no attention to it.

Meanwhile, an election is being held on November 6 that is considered by many to
be the most important in our lifetimes. Some are already voting. Yet the electorate remains largely in the blind on this key issue.

We further know there are a number of individuals out there who know the truth or part of the truth about what happened in
Benghazi that night. Most probably those individuals work for the government (intelligence agencies, State Department, etc.) or the military and are not permitted
to divulge this information in public.

We sympathize with them, their requirements, and their privacy. But we also suspect those people are feeling pangs of guilt when they see the father of one of our slain heroes on television, demanding to know the truth. “

Best selling thriller writer Brad Thor talks with The Blaze about his new book ” Black List ” and the creeping “surveillance society ” that we now find ourselves in .

” “If I had been around with George Orwell back when he wrote ‘1984’ and I knew what I know now, he would have told me I was crazy,” Thor said, chuckling to himself before getting serious again. “Orwell couldn’t have predicted this.”

Flashback to 1975, he explained, when Sen. Frank Church appeared on NBC’s “Meet the Press” and issued a dire warning about America’s invasive surveillance capabilities:

“[America’s intelligence gathering] capability at any time could be turned around on the American people and no American would have any privacy left. Such the capability to monitor everything: telephone conversations, telegrams, it doesn’t matter. There would be no place to hide.” “

Just unbelievable , but then again , we are in the era of “Hope & Change”

“The following is NOT a work of fiction. It did take place. It took place in the most liberty rich country in the history of the world. It didn’t happen in one of the old Soviet Eastern Bloc nations. It didn’t happen in Cuba or Venezuela. It didn’t happen in Iran. It happened here, in the United States of America.”

This is how citizens desiring to inquire about their own PUBLIC servants are treated nowadays , read on .

“Let me first begin by telling you about a man that I have come to know over the last week. Larry Keller is just a normal guy. He’s an average, hard working American trying to live his life the best way that he knows how. He operates a consulting business out of his home in Asheville, North Carolina. He cares about his country and he believes, like most of us here, that Americans have the right to question those in government that we may disagree with.

Over a month ago, when the EPA’s Al Armendariz “crucify” comments reached a boiling point, Keller began to inquire as to how he could contact Mr. Armendariz.  Larry didn’t agree with his statements about the oil and gas industries and felt compelled to contact him by email. Like I said before, we all believe that we have that right.

Keller tried Googling Armendariz’s name to find his contact information, he ended up on a website that led him to contact, by email, a man by the name of Dr. David Gray who is the Director of External Affairs for the EPA. Larry Keller, average American, wrote a one sentence email to Dr. Gray which stated simply:

“Hello Mr. Gray-Do you have Mr. Armendariz’s contact information so we can say hello?”

That’s it. That’s all he said. He never heard back from Dr. Gray and I assume he went about his average life like anyone else would.

Then a little over a week after the Armendariz comments became public knowledge, on May 2nd to be exact, Larry Keller was visited by two individuals along with a uniformed Asheville Police Officer. The following is what transpired:”

Be sure and read the rest , and check your six .
