Explosions, Massive Fire Rock New Albany Biodiesel Plant

BIO-DIESEL EXPLOSION

” Several explosions and an intense fire rocked the JNS Biofuel Plant off Highway 15 North in New Albany and cameras were rolling when the second blast sent flames shooting into the air with a large plume of smoke.

The fire broke out about 5:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Union County plant, about 90 minutes southeast of Memphis, Tenn., and 13 hours later the flames continue to burn bright.

There have been no reported injures.

Union County local firefighters have been playing the waiting game all day, watching and waiting to see when it would be safe to get closer to maybe help get the fire out. Well that all came to a screeching stop just after 1 p.m., when our cameras captured that loud explosion and resulting fireball.”

Quebec Town Grapples With Loss In Train Wreck Aftermath

” Five days after a train hauling 72 cylinders of crude oil jumped the track and exploded into a wall of fire, provincial police said they had recovered 20 bodies, with another 30 people still missing and presumed dead, confirming the worst fears of a community that had all but given up hope.

“She’s dead,” said Jean-Guy Lapierre of his niece, holding a copy of a Quebec tabloid that had printed pictures of some of the town’s missing young people on its front page. “She was just 28.”

The crash and subsequent explosions rocked the eastern Canadian town of Lac-Megantic shortly after 1 a.m. (0500 GMT) on Saturday, leveling its historic downtown strip.”

Petrochemical Train Explodes In Quebec’s Lac-Megantic

” A driverless train carrying light crude oil has exploded in a Canadian town, forcing the evacuation of 1,000 people.

The blast sent a fireball and black smoke into the air, destroying dozens of buildings in Lac-Megantic, some 155 miles (250 km) east of Montreal.

The train’s 77 fuel cars reportedly uncoupled from its parked engine and derailed early on Saturday; 120 fire fighters are still fighting the blaze.

Some 60 people are missing, but no casualties have yet been confirmed.

Eyewitnesses reported that the town centre was crowded at the time of the blast, and that “chaos” ensued . “

Explosions, Fire On Fuel Barges In Mobile, Ala

” Firefighters from Mobile, Ala., and U.S. Coast Guard crews responded Wednesday night to four explosions and a fire on fuel barges in the Mobile River.

Officials were responding to two explosions and a fire at natural gas barges when a third explosion occurred, Mobile Fire and Rescue spokesman Steve Huffman said. It was not immediately clear if the third explosion was on one of the barges that were already engulfed in flames.

A fourth explosion was reported just before 10 p.m. CDT.”

” CBS affiliate WKRG Mobile reported of no fatalities. Three people were hospitalized with burns and information on their conditions was not immediately available.

Fire officials said they planned to let the barges burn into the night because the situation was too unstable.

The explosions happened in an area of the river east of downtown Mobile, Huffman said. U.S. Coast Guard Petty Ofc. Carlos Vega said the blast happened in a ship channel near the George C. Wallace Tunnel — which carries traffic from Interstate 10 under the Mobile River.”

Authorities Believe They Have Identified A Suspect

” Investigators believe they have identified a suspect in the Boston Marathon bombings, a source who has been briefed on the investigation told CNN’s John King exclusively.

The breakthrough came from analysis of video from a department store near the site of the second explosion. Video from a Boston television station also contributed to the progress, said the source, who declined to be more specific but called it a significant development.

Earlier, a federal law enforcement source with firsthand knowledge of the investigation told CNN that a lid to a pressure cooker thought to have been used in the bombings had been found on a roof of a building near the scene.”
