New Illinois Law Will END Chicago “Assault Weapons” Ban

” As I’m sure most of you know, yesterday Illinois state House passed a bill that, when/if signed into law, will give residents of the state a mechanism for concealed carry. Illinois was previously the only state in the US without some kind of concealed carry program.

The new bill has further reaching implications though. One of the aspects of the amended version of the bill is that the state will get preemption on gun laws. This would mean that cities, towns and counties would not be able to enact their own gun legislation. This means in cities like Chicago, the strict “assault weapons” ban in place there will be effectively repealed.”

New Bill Requires Gold And Silver Registration

” The slippery slope to confiscation has begun.

Gold and silver buyers could soon have to register with the state of Illinois.

Rick Santelli provides an update on legislation that requires every gold and silver transaction to be registered with the State. Here are the basics. The bill, officially called SB-3341, was introduced in 2012, immediately passed the Illinois Senate and is now awaiting action by the House.”

” In 2012, the Illinois General Assembly passed the Precious Metal Purchasing Act. SB3341 states that a person who is in the business of purchasing precious metal shall obtain a proof of ownership, create a record of the sale, and verify the identity of the seller. Provides that a person who is in the business of purchasing precious metal shall not pay for the precious metal in cash and shall record the method of payment. (Emphasis added.)
In a CNBC video, Rick Santelli ties the floundering legislation to FDR’s 1933 Executive Order 6102 confiscating gold and setting the stage for Richard Nixon severing the connection between gold and the dollar in 1971.”

Afghanistan: Taliban Kill Six Americans

” Taliban militants have killed six Americans, including a young female diplomat, in the deadliest day in Afghanistan for the US in eight months.

Three members of the military, two US civilians and an Afghan doctor died after being hit by an explosion while travelling to donate books to a school in the south.

The Illinois woman is the first American diplomat to die on the job since last year’s attack on the US diplomatic mission in Benghazi, Libya.

It was the deadliest day for Americans since August 16 2012, when seven American service members were killed in two attacks in Kandahar province, the birthplace of the Taliban insurgency.”

Would-Be Handgun Banner’s Criminal Family Ties Explain A Lot

” When asked if the “assault weapon” ban was just the beginning, Schakowsky replied “Oh absolutely. I mean, I’m against handguns. We have, in Illinois, the Council Against Handgun… something …Yeah, I’m a member of that. So, absolutely.”

What should also be a hurdle is the fact that Schakowsky is married to convicted felon Robert Creamer, who “pleaded guilty to defrauding banks out of 2.3 million dollars in a check-kiting scheme along with violations of federal tax laws.” That would make him a person prohibited by law from owning a handgun, an “assault weapon” or any kind of gun at all.

As we’ve seen many times in the past with the criminal records compiled by Michael Bloomberg’s Mayors Against [Your] Guns, the character of those who presume to call ours into question makes one thing very clear. What we’re dealing with are criminals who are perverting the “law” to disarm the rest of us. So of course they don’t trust us, with guns or with anything else. It’s a projection thing. “

2nd Amendment Sunday – An Illinois Pastor Calls For Kids To Create ‘Assault Pop-Tarts’

” “Assault pop-tarts” and “combat cupcakes” was the call to action by Grace-Gospel Fellowship Church in Bensenville, Illinois.  This past Sunday Pastor Kirkwood held a contest for the children of his church where they were encouraged to come up with the best 2nd amendment themed pastries they could imagine.  Winners were given gift cards and toy assault rifles.  Pastor Kirkwood explained the event in a Facebook post:

2nd Amendment Sunday is here at Grace Gospel Fellowship, Bensenville. Join us as we lay out the Biblical doctrines of self-defense and Liberty. Our Jr. Church will respond to the latest absurdities in the news of “toy gun” buy back programs by eunuch preachers and suspending elementary children for assault fingers, pop-tarts and cupcakes.”

Court of Appeals: Illinois MUST Do Away With Concealed Carry Ban

” According to the WesternJournal.com, The 7th Circuit Court of Appeals has told Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan for the last time that she MUST honor the Constitution of the United States by doing away with her state’s ban on the concealed carry of firearms.”

Do You Live In A Death Spiral State

” Don’t buy a house in a state where private sector workers are outnumbered by folks dependent on government.

Thinking about buying a house? Or a municipal bond? Be careful where you put your capital. Don’t put it in a state at high risk of a fiscal tailspin.

Eleven states make our list of danger spots for investors. They can look forward to a rising tax burden, deteriorating state finances and an exodus of employers. The list includes California, New York, Illinois and Ohio, along with some smaller states like New Mexico and Hawaii.”

If your career takes you to Los Angeles or Chicago, don’t buy a house. Rent.

California Passes Sweeping New ‘Animal Abuse’ Laws That Give Government Massive New Powers Over Animal Ownership

   Animal rights run amok …

” (NaturalNews) If you live in California and own pets or livestock, you could soon be criminalized as an animal abuser for things like letting your livestock roam on pasture or transferring ownership of rare-breed animals in a parking lot. Two new laws recently passed under the auspices of animal protection actually threaten to eliminate animal ownership throughout the state, as they re-categorize normal animal rearing methods as acts of abuse worthy of criminal fines and unwarranted seizure of said animals.

The bills are AB 1117 and SB 917, and they were passed under a shroud of secrecy. Those who knew about the bills were told they would protect animals from abuse. But upon closer investigation, AB 1117 and SB 917 were clearly designed to incriminate animal ownership and discourage livestock farming. SB 917, as it turns out, makes it a crime to both sell and give away animals on any street, highway, public right-of-way, parking lot, carnival or boardwalk, while AB 1117 gives full authority to humane and peace officers to seize and destroy animals without a warrant. “

For once it seems that California is behind the curve in this headlong dash towards human extinction …

” Such lunacy is not reserved to California, sadly, as numerous other U.S. states are pushing their own laws that would essentially criminalize animal ownership. As we reported back in 2012, the state of Michigan passed a not-so-cleverly disguised “Invasive Species Order” (ISO) that reclassified most rare-breed pig breeds as “feral,” and thus illegal. Beginning last April, the state actually went around with SWAT teams raiding local farms and shooting these rare-breed species (http://www.naturalnews.com/035372_Michigan_pigs_farm_freedom.html).And back in 2011, Illinois lawmakers tried to push House Bill 1166, which would have required pet owners to actually get a state-issued permit if they wished to possess more than six animals as pets. Included in this pet category, as explained in a Pet Industry Joint Advisory Council (PIJAC) report, were the usual cats and dogs, as well as fish. Thousands of Illinois residents with even one fish tank of fish, in other words, would have become criminals overnight (http://www.pijac.org)”.

What State Buys The Most Guns?

NICS 95-12

” Four states exceeded one million Federal Bureau of Investigation NICS checks; Kentucky, Texas, California and Illinois. Kentucky is the only state to exceed two million background checks.

Background checks are only a proxy measure for gun sales. A buyer may purchase more than one gun through a gun dealer, depending on the local laws, once the background check comes back authorizing the purchase. ”

Law On Liability Insurance Eyed For Gun Owners

gun insurance

” Hoping to get beyond the debate over new gun-control laws, a group of economists and legal scholars is floating another plan they say could cut down on spree shootings: require all gun owners to carry liability insurance, similar to what automobile owners must have.

The plan, which was floated in Illinois’ legislature in 2009, draws the ire of gun-rights groups who say it infringes on Americans’ Second Amendment rights and unfairly targets law-abiding gun owners. But backers say it offers a way to ferret out potentially dangerous or unstable criminals from the ranks of gun owners without having the federal government enact outright bans.

The horrific shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. last month ignited a new national debate over gun law, but the liability insurance proposal may not have prevented that tragedy. Shooter Adam Lanza used firearms owned by his mother to kill her and then 26 children and administrators at the school before taking his own life.

“If you own a gun, you should expect some due diligence of all people who own guns,” said Tricia Dunlap, a Richmond-based lawyer. “We can stop debating about whether you can own a gun, because of course you can. Do we ban assault weapons? No, it doesn’t work. God, we’ve been having that debate for 20 years. Can we come at it from a fresh angle?” “

Report: 532 Murdered In Chicago In 2012

” The website also claims that, through December 25, 2012, there 2,670 people were shot in Chicago last year. That’s also an increase from the year before, when 2,217 people were shot in Chicago that year.

In all, it means that on average almost 1.5 people were murdered in Chicago each day last year, while on average 7.3 people were shot each day.

Official numbers from the city of Chicago appear to be a tad bit lower, however. ”

Federal Appeals Court Rules Illinois Cannot Maintain Its Flat Ban On Concealed-Carry

” There are certain constants to life in Illinois. Abraham Lincoln has always been revered. The Cubs always find a way to lose. Lake Michigan never goes dry. Letting citizens carrying concealed firearms is out of the question.

But one of those is no longer true. Tuesday, a federal appeals court said the state cannot maintain its flat ban on concealed-carry—a policy that makes it unique among the 50 states. In 2008, the Supreme Court ruled that the Second Amendment protects an individual right to have and use a gun for self-protection. Extending the logic of that decision, the appeals court said this freedom includes the right to carry a weapon outside the home.

“A Chicagoan is a good deal more likely to be attacked on a sidewalk in a rough neighborhood than in his apartment on the 35th floor of Park Tower,” wrote Judge Richard Posner. “To confine the right to be armed to the home is to divorce the Second Amendment from the right of self-defense…” ”

Illinois Senate Defeats Governor’s Sneaky Attempt to Ban Assault Weapons

” In Obama’s home state, Illinois, governor Pat Quinn attempted to circumvent the legislature and impose an assault weapons ban on Wednesday. State Sen. Dave Luechtefeld, a Republican from Okawville, led an override that defeated the governor.

“Today is a good day for the Second Amendment in Illinois. We have scored a victory against short-sighted Chicago anti-gun policies,” Luechtefeld said, the Illinois Reviewreported on Wednesday. “The Governor overstepped his reach when he decided to rewrite this Senate bill and impose an assault weapons ban without the measure first being heard by the legislature.”

Quinn had attempted to change Senate Bill 681. The legislation allows FOID card holders to mail-order ammunition purchases from in-state licensed firearm dealers. Quinn had tried to include language that would have banned so-called assault weapons and certain ammunition magazines ”

Illinois Works On Driver’s Licenses For Illegals

Because It’s Worked So Well In The Past

” The move represents the first major backtrack by a state since the aftermath of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks nearly a decade ago, when the hijackers used licenses, often obtained by fraud, to board the airplanes they used to target the World Trade Center towers, the Pentagon and, potentially, the U.S. Capitol or White House.

In the wake of those attacks, the national commission established to look into problems urged the federal government to set a national standard for identification cards such as driver’s licenses. In response, Congress wrote the Real ID Act, which included the requirement that federally compliant licenses be valid only while someone is in the country legally.

Many states moved to embrace that standard, and now only two states — New Mexico and Washington — issue driver’s licenses to illegal immigrants without any demarcation. Utah issues licenses to illegal immigrants, but those are marked as noncompliant. “

… and It Ain’t Good

image

” But these beautiful sentiments have less and less to do with the actual policies they pursue. Readers of Via Meadia can see a
pattern here. We have “peace movements” incapable of advancing the cause of peace;
environmentalists whose political ineptitude damages the causes they most hope to serve; and we have a form of blue state liberalism that blights the lives of exactly the people it wants to help most.

American liberalism today is in an advanced stage of intellectual decline. Cynical and short sighted interests wrap themselves in the increasingly tattered mantles of sacred ideas. Liberals are right to feel that social justice matters, that the poor should have greater opportunity and that government in
a democratic society cannot remain
indifferent to the existence of great social evils.

But where liberals in America have the freest hand—in states like New York, California and Illinois—we see incontrovertible evidence that the policies they choose don’t have the consequences they predict. California by now should surely be an educational, environmental
and social utopia. New York should be a wonder of glorious liberal governance. Illinois should be known far and wide as the
state that works.

What’s interesting about the governance failures of these states is how comprehensive they are. Other than politicians, union officials and Wall Street investment banks, nobody really benefits
from the choices Illinois has made. As the Volker-Ravitch report tells us, even the ppublic sector unions, the architects of many of the state’s most destructive policies, are
going to get shafted as a result of the bad policies they’ve supported. They’ve created a state that simply won’t be able to honor its promises to the workers the unions represent. “

A Violence Tax ?

If You Own a Gun You Must be Violent!

” Whether or not you are violent, if you live in Cook County, Illinois (Chicago) you are set to be the subject of a new “Violence Tax.” Cook County Board President, Toni Preckwinkle, recently floated the proposal for a Violence Tax. This new and unwarranted tax seeks to target the sale of guns and ammunition sold in the City of Chicago and its suburbs.

Preckwinkle refuses to deliver any details other than guns and ammo would cost more. The reported purpose of the tax is to help plug the county’s $115 million budget gap.

Preckwinkle’s chief of staff, Kurt Summers, reportedly stated that the aim of the proposal was to curb the number of guns in circulation citing a report from last summer, which stated nearly one-third of the guns recovered on the Chicago’s streets were purchased in suburban gun shops.”

Could Obama Lose Home State Of Illinois?

” When an incumbent Democratic president is virtually tied in a congressional district he carried by high double digits in 2008, and is losing in the suburbs of his hometown, there could be trouble brewing.

In August, a poll by the Joliet, Ill.-based polling firm of McKeon and Associates, found President Obama leading challenger Mitt Romney in Cook County, which includes Chicago and its suburbs, by a 12-point margin 49-37.

That would seem to be a comfortable edge, but it is significantly smaller than traditional margins needed to outweigh the more Republican downstate vote.

“He has to come out of Cook County with a big lead or he’s gonna have problems downstate,” explained McKeon, who said that based on the numbers he’s seen, Obama polled only in the 40s in downstate Illinois. “

If it’s not the EPA screwing us it’s OSHA .

” An Illinois gun range has been cited for “27 serious violations includ[ing] 13 for violating the lead standard” resulting inproposed fines of $111,000, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration announced in a news release earlier this week. Illinois Gun Works Ltd. was cited for “failing to implement engineering and work practice controls” following “a Jan. 21 inspection referred by the Illinois Department of Public Health.” “
