Birmingham 1 Of 6 Pilot Sites In Federal Effort To Restore Police, Community Relations

” Birmingham has been chosen as one of six cities nationwide to serve as a pilot site for a national initiative on restoring relationships between law enforcement and citizens.

Attorney General Eric Holder made the announcement today. The $4.7 million National Initiative for Building Community Trust and Justice was announced in April and is a partnership between federal officials and criminal justice experts focused on providing training, policy and research to address distrust between citizens and law enforcement.

The other pilot cities are: Ft. Worth, Gary, Indiana, Minneapolis, Pittsburgh and Stockton. The initiative comes after several high profile fatal police-involved shootings.”

This can only end badly . Considering that the Justice department does not exactly inspire faith in government how is it’s attempt to co-opt the police forces of numerous cities going to restore faith in law enforcement ? It’s just one more step towards the nationalization of police . Read more here

A message to the citizens of the FIRST six cities to fall under federal control; if you think your local PD is unresponsive to your pleas and that increasing the bureaucracy with a federal level of “supervision” will help , then you really have not been paying attention these last few years . You , and the rest of us , will rue the day that the Feds take over your law enforcement duties .

Boy Records Cops Smashing Car Window, Dragging Out Father, For Seat Belt Violation

” The division between police and citizens in this country continues to deepen with an incident out of Indiana caught on video showing a group of cops shattering a car window to pull out a passenger because he did not have identification.

Hammond police had pulled over the man’s girlfriend because she had not been wearing a seatbelt, which as we saw in South Carolina, can lead to a cop opening fire on a driver trying to comply with their orders.

They then asked her boyfriend, Jamal Jones, for his identification, which she should not have been under any legal obligation to provide considering he wasn’t driving.

Nevertheless, he explained that he did not have it because he was not driving, but offered to show them a ticket he had recently received, which would have given them the information they were looking for. He even reached for a backpack to show them the ticket.”

3 Columbus Churches Vandalized With Graffiti Overnight

” Columbus Police said they’ve never had anything like it – three churches vandalized in the same night.

Someone spray painted them on the outside. It’s the words used, though, that have some people asking if this was more than a prank.

“ It was just one word. It said ‘Infidels!’” Father Doug Marcotte said of what was spray painted on Saint Bartholomew’s Catholic Church in Columbus overnight Saturday.

Parishioners saw that, along with the word “Qur’an 3:151” on their way into mass Sunday morning.

“ It’s certainly not a warm and fuzzy verse. It talks about the infidels, their refuge being the fire,” explained Father Marcotte.

Specifically, that passage of the Qur’an reads: “We will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve for what they have associated with Allah of which He had not sent down [any] authority. And their refuge will be the Fire, and wretched is the residence of the wrongdoers.”

Saint Bartholomew’s wasn’t the only Columbus church vandalized.

“  It’s really bizarre and the fact that they hit two other Christian Churches. It’s not like we’re all in a line. So why did they pick the three of us,” asked Father Marcotte.

Outside East Columbus Christian Church and Lakeview Church of Christ, members there found the same kind of graffiti Sunday morning. ”

If Cops Treat Their Own Dogs Like This, It is No Wonder They Shoot Everyone Else’s

” A disturbing video was posted to youtube yesterday of a Hammond, Indiana police officer allegedly abusing his K-9 unit. In the short clip we can see the officer completely raise the dog off of the ground and beat him with a strap of some sort.”

Charges To Be Dropped In Clark County Jail Case; Lawsuit Moving Forward

” Charges against a Jeffersonville woman who spent five months in jail for a 48-hour sentence are expected to dropped while she moves ahead with filing a civil lawsuit against Clark County for her lengthy incarceration.

Destiny Hoffman, 34, was released from the Michael L. Becher Adult Correctional Complex on Thursday, a day after Clark County Deputy Prosecutor Michaelia Gilbert discovered her status as an inmate while reviewing old case files.

Hoffman was a participant in the Clark County Drug Court Treatment Program, and her 154-day incarceration resulted from Clark County Circuit Court No. 2 Judge Jerry Jacobi, who oversees the drug court, issuing a two-day sanction and never notifying jail staff to release her from the facility.

“ All charges will be dismissed against Ms. Hoffman. She will have no further requirements to attend drug court or probation. Her cases are, basically, finished,” said Nathan Masingo, Hoffman’s public defender.

Masingo said he expects Hoffman will file a civil complaint that could result in Clark County taxpayers paying for the blunder that kept her behind bars from Aug. 22 to Jan. 23.

“ She met with an attorney today,” Masingo said Monday. “She will be suing the [Clark] county civilly for violation of her constitutional rights.” “

Vietnam Vet Shoots, Kills Suspected Burglar Trying To Break Into His Home

Fort Wayne Intruder

” An attempted home invasion in Fort Wayne, Indiana late Sunday night had a deadly ending for the suspect, who was met at the door by an armed Vietnam vet.

It was just before midnight when the homeowner, who has not been identified, heard unfamiliar noises outside his front door. Spokesman for the Fort Wayne Police Department, Michael Joyner told reporters that whatever the noise was, it was enough for the homeowner to know that something wasn’t right.

The homeowner, who is in his 70s, grabbed his gun and went to see what the commotion was about. What he found was 33-year-old Ricardo M. Hood attempting to break into his home. At some point during the confrontation, the homeowner fired several shots at Hood.”

” The student debt crisis continues to grow larger and more dangerous with each passing school year. The skyrocketing price for a college degree is causing an epidemic with student loans as more people rack up unsustainable amounts of debt to further their education. Using debt to obtain a degree can be beneficial if done properly, but there are certainly some states worse off than others when comparing debt to earnings .

With lenders handing out loans like candy, the amount of student loan debt in America has nearly doubled in the past five years, from $550 billion in late 2007 to $986 billion in the first quarter of 2013. In fact, two-thirds of recent graduates have student loans, with an average balance of more than $27,000, according to a new report from the Joint Economic Committee.”

Muchas Gracias! Notre Dame Will Now Accept, Heavily Subsidize Illegal Immigrants

” The University of Notre has announced that it will now admit illegal immigrants and give them generous amounts of money from school coffers to ease the burden of the school’s annual cost for tuition, room and board of over $57,000.

Officials at the famous Catholic school in Indiana say the new illegal-immigrant friendly policy will “strengthen the student  body, reports The Washington Times.

Notre Dame had never officially prohibited admission to illegal immigrants before instituting the new measure. Under the previous rules, however, the school regarded illegal immigrants as international students  and insisted that they have visas.”

Indiana Man Shoots, Kills Suspected Burglar Armed With A Hatchet

” An Indiana resident shot and killed a man during an apparent home invasion Monday morning.

According to the La Porte County Sheriff’s Office, it was just after 9 o’clock when the resident was awakened by the sound of breaking glass in the rural New Carlisle home, just south of the Michigan border. The resident armed himself with a handgun and when he went to check out the noise was confronted by an intruder armed with a hatchet. The two became involved in a fight that eventually ended in the resident shooting the intruder. The man then immediately called 911 to report what had happened.

When police arrived they found 23-year-old Jason Rabe of Three Oaks Township, Michigan, deceased in the home from a single gunshot wound to the chest.”

Fatal shooting at West Packard at South Wayne

” An attempted robbery by two teens Saturday night in Fort Wayne, Indiana, left one teen dead, another in jail and both empty-handed. Their would-be victim was armed with a .40-caliber pistol and when his safety was threatened, he opened fire, shooting and killing one, while the other ran off, the Journal Gazette reports.

” 22-year-old Paul Lukac and 24-year-old Justin Henschen are accused of breaking into John and Matt Fugate’s home, but those two suspects had no idea what was waiting for them.

Matt was behind his bedroom door when out of nowhere, he says two men kicked in the front door of his Idlewild Drive home.

“I raced for the gun vault and had my gun in my hand in 5-seconds and then answered the door,” says Matt.

His brother John’s 911 call explains what happened next.

“I just had somebody kick down my door, and my brother has him at gunpoint on the floor,” John tells the 911-operator.”

Officials Found Guilty In Obama, Clinton Ballot Petition Fraud

” A jury in South Bend, Indiana has found that fraud put President Obama and Hillary Clinton on the presidential primary ballot in Indiana in the 2008 election. Two Democratic political operatives were convicted Thursday night in the illegal scheme after only three hours of deliberations. They were found guilty on all counts.

Former longtime St. Joseph County Democratic party Chairman Butch Morgan Jr.  was found guilty of felony conspiracy counts to commit petition fraud and forgery, and former county Board of Elections worker Dustin Blythe was found guilty of felony forgery counts and falsely making a petition, after being accused of faking petitions that enabled Obama, then an Illinois Senator, to get on the presidential primary ballot for his first run for the White House.

Morgan was accused of being the mastermind behind the plot.”

” Funded by Mark Westrom, owner of ArmaLite, a gun manufacturer, the video was filmed in Feb. Campbell, a police officer since 1979, made it a point to note that he wasn’t paid for the project and that he narrated the video out of love for the Second Amendment. He hopes that viewers will watch it and, based on the information, make an educated decision for themselves regarding the magazine capacity issue.”

” A video featuring Sheriff Ken Campbell of Boone County, Ind., is capturing the attention of gun enthusiasts who have consistently argued that capping magazine sizes will do very little to save American lives. In a 14-minute instructional and debunk clip, Campbell narrates why a ban on high-capacity magazine sizes is ineffective, showcasing — through examples — the idea’s purported deficiencies. In an interview with TheBlaze, he explained the video’s purpose and detailed his views on the current gun control debate.

When asked whether capping magazine sizes would saves lives, Campbell was forthright in sharing his views with TheBlaze.

“I think it’s a great fallacy to believe that it would,” he said candidly. “You’ve got a standard capacity versus a 10 round. From a citizen standpoint…all we’re doing is making it more difficult for [people] to defend themselves against bad guys.” “

Tonik, Dog With Human Face, Up For Adoption

” Tonik, an 11-pound, 1-year old dog available for adoption from the Homeward Bound Animal Welfare Group in Mishawka, Indiana, is looking for a loving and responsible household, preferably without children. He is part poodle, part Shih Tzu, and, if his photo is any indication, part human.

Yes, it’s true: Tonik’s face, at least in this photo, looks very much like that of a mildly peeved H. sapiens. Indeed, the resemblance is striking enough to prompt a writer for the Huffington Post to lead their story with,“It’s just one of those things that are like, ‘Whoa, dude.'”

But how, exactly, did Tonik’s face get so . . . dude-like? Well, it’s true that humans and dogs do share some genes: our two species likely have a common ancestor dating back to the Cretaceous era. And it’s also true that Shih Tzus have been bred for their flat faces (many Shih Tzus have trouble breathing because of this). But Tonik’s humanoid visage has much less to do with canine physiology than it does with human psychology.”

Homeowner Shoots At (And Hits) Men Who Break Into His Home

Indiana Home Invasion

” MICHIGAN CITY, Ind — A recent home invasion that led to two suspects getting shot is causing a buzz in Michigan City.

Today people are speaking out after a homeowner took matters into his own hands when coming face to face with a couple intruders.

According to police, a man was inside his home on Pontiac Drive Friday night when two people broke in.

He pulled out a gun, shot both of them, and kept one of them at gunpoint until police got there. ”

Clerk won’t face charges in shooting at Southside liquor store

This post also details 3 other successful ” Citizen Interventions ” in Indiana all within the past 10 months or so . Good for them … Good for US .

Robbery not allowed

” Prosecutors are reviewing the fatal weekend shooting of a man at an Eastside liquor store, but have determined charges will not be filed against another liquor store clerk who shot a would-be robber Sept. 30.

The incident Saturday is at least the fourth time in the last 11 months that an employee of a Marion County business has been involved in a fatal shooting. None of the workers involved in those shootings have faced criminal charges.”

Pizza Store Owner Fatally Shoots Would-be Robber

Robbery not allowed

” Who robs pizza joints? Normally, that’d be more of a rhetorical question, but one would-be thief in Indiana helped to shed some light on that for us. The answer to that question is: incompetent ski mask-wearing thieves.

According to local reports, 30-year-old Freddie McCoy of Richmond, Indiana, attempted to rob Mercurio’s Pizza. We’re a little bit rusty on our Italian, but we think that “Mercurio” roughly translates to “We’re packin’ heat!” The store owner at Mercurio’s, Terry Padgett, drew his gun and fired on the would-be robber.

The robber was hit a total of three times. McCoy fled and made it to the sidewalk before collapsing. The police showed up and hauled McCoy off to the hospital, but unfortunately he passed away as a result of his injuries.”

Wah , Wah , Wah

If you needed more evidence that a Senator who had to stay in a hotel at taxpayer expense when he visited his ‘home’ district because he doesn’t even own one , then how about this long winded , self-serving and very undignified concession speech from Dick ” Rinosaur ” Lugar . Gosh almighty , show some class for crying out loud . You surely sucked enough of a living off of the taxpayers teat .

Of course to my mind , if your chief emphasis is the need for ” bipartisanship ” then you really aren’t representing your constituents , are you ? Bipartisanship only seems to apply for Republicans and really means capitulation .

Enough already , Indiana please put this Rinosaur out to pasture . If a candidate needs to resort to pleas for voters on the other side of the aisle to aid him in gaining his own party’s nomination then said candidate certainly cannot be representative of his constituents .

And, via Politico, Dick Lugar plea for Dems, independents:

Lugar told CNN’s “Starting Point” on Tuesday that he believes he will emerge  as the winner after polls close, but he pushed for voters outside his party to  cast ballots on his behalf in the Republican primary.

“I believe in fact we’re going to win the campaign. As a matter  of fact, we’ve invited everybody in the state of Indiana who is a registered  voter to vote for me today,” he said.

Lugar said later in the interview he wanted to “emphasize” he was inviting  every single voter in Indiana to support his candidacy, no matter their  party.

“Those of us who are Republicans have to make certain that we enlarge our  party, that we have persons who may have been independent in the past who are  going to be independent Republicans or independents generally who are going to  favor our party. Because our party, at least in Indiana, is only about 35  percent of the electorate.

If you are in Indiana and eligible to vote in the Republican primary please help retire a Rinosaur non-resident of your fine state and cast a ballot for Operation Counterweight and Richard Mourdock .

“That being said, the conditions of 2012 – specifically, the now-certain nomination of Mitt Romney as the Republican candidate for president – call for conservatives to take a harder line than ever in supporting Operation Counterweight (William Jacobson’s term), in particular to seek in Senate races what David Freddoso has called “an un-bossable Senate.” Party insiders expect conservatives, Tea Party-style outsiders and single-issue social conservatives to show up to vote anyway for a party whose leader is a man many of us distrust on nearly every issue. Politics, they remind us, is compromise. And that’s precisely my point: it is exactly because one side of the party got Romney that the other can less afford to swallow Romney-like figures in the Senate. That doesn’t mean backing the most conservative candidate in every single race without considering any other factor – but it does mean giving more than usual preference to the more conservative and/or less establishment option in Senate races. It’s not about demanding absolute party purity – it’s about recognizing that Romney has sopped up most of our tolerance for impurity already. If you want a Senate that will hold Romney’s feet to the fire, you have to start by replacing men like Dick Lugar and, in Utah, 78-year old Orrin Hatch.”

Hopefully another incumbent sent into retirement . If we could do this with regularity we would not need term limits.

“Indiana Sen. Richard Lugar will face a steep uphill battle in the state’s Republican primaries next Tuesday, according to a new poll that shows the longtime incumbent down ten points against conservative State Treasurer Richard Mourdock.”

If the WashPost is calling you a liar and you sit on the left side of the aisle it must be a whopper . While stretching the truth is a time honored tradition in the world of the politician our present Dear Leader has managed to elevate  the art of calumny to heretofore unseen heights .

You must admit , he is master of something ….

HT/ Powerline

Kessler concluded:
“Calling out the Republicans at the Brent Spence bridge was bad enough, given the bipartisan support for its reconstruction. But pointing to the Sherman Milton Bridge, which already has been repaired without funding from the president’s jobs bill, is ridiculous.”

“So once again, Obama was simply lying. Sure, many politicians have been willing to stretch the truth to get re-elected. But for flat-out
misrepresentations, I can’t recall one who can equal Obama. “
