Science: Your Eye Color Reveals A Lot About You

” There are many things that your eye color reveals about you. Did you know that no two people have the ‘exact’ same eye color? Or what about he fact that every person with blue eyes can be traced back to the same ancestor that lived in the black sea region about 10,000 years ago? It’s true. Everyone alive today with blue eyes has a very specific DNA sequence. Some of you may already know that when babies are first born, they have no melanin in their eyes, thus giving them a ‘hazy blue’ eye color. This changes quickly, though, into whatever color will be the baby’s permanent eye color.

Brown eye color used to be considered dominant, but scientists have now revealed that eye color is actually a multi-gene trait, rather than a single gene one. It’s a little bit more complicated than to simply say that the brown eye color is the dominant one. It’s more of a gene combination. Did you know it’s genetically possible to have your iris divided into two colors, or even TWO different color irises?!

Did you now that eye color can change over time? Eyes don’t constantly produce pigment, thus becoming lighter or even darker as time goes on. This little info-graphic by Mezzmer illustrates all of these fun facts in an easy to understand way. Your eyes truly say a lot about your ancestry.”

Infographic by Joe Rusenko of The Heritage Foundation.

” With the midterm elections Tuesday, many may wonder if their vote will actually count. As an eligible citizen, you must be guaranteed the right to vote—and it must be guaranteed that your vote is not stolen or diluted by thieves and fraudsters. The infographic below(above) highlights different types of voter fraud and startling, real instances where fraud has imperiled the integrity of elections. Fortunately, steps like voter ID laws can be taken to ensure the integrity of elections. You can read the full informational booklet, “Does Your Vote Count?” here and a companion site that documents over 200 instances of voter fraud here. “

By The Numbers: Surging Immigrant Population Sets Record

Infographic by Nicole Rusenko

” Nearly four times as many legal and illegal immigrants live in the United States as did in 1970, according to a report issued by the Center for Immigration Studies.

According to the report, which is based on U.S. Census data, the number of immigrants coming from India, China, Latin America, and countries in the Caribbean and Middle East increased the most between 2010 and 2013. The number of immigrants coming to the United States from Europe steadily declined.

Between 2010 and 2013, 4 million new immigrants settled in the United States; and since 2007, when the Great Recession began, at least 7.5 million immigrants have settled in this country, according to the report.”

One Handy Animated Infographic Shows What The U.S. Spends Our Taxpayer Money On Every Second

” PolicyMic came up with a handy infographic that shows how the U.S. spends of American taxpayer’s money: $15,700 every second.

As you can see, there’s a lot of blinking going on, but not much ado about the U.S.’ burgeoning welfare state – and the over $17 trillion in national debt that comes with it (not to mention the roughly $100 trillion in debt liabilities). “

According to Mashable, eBay analyzed 2013-2014 shopping habits to find the top 500 brands purchased by residents of each state. The online retailer then condensed the data to general categories like “furniture,” “robotic vacuums,” and “batteries” among others.”

A Cop Stops You At A Festival: The “Know Your Rights” Infographic

Infographic-Festival Lawyer

A COP “STOPS YOU” AT A MUSIC FESTIVAL

” The 4th Amendment of the Constitution prohibits “unreasonable” searches and seizures. That means you are supposed to have a right as a citizen to freely go about your business without being randomly detained or investigated. In order to “stop” you, an officer first has to have a belief that you were engaged in criminal activity.

There are 3 levels of police “stops”. At each higher level of police encounter, the police officer has to show more justification as to why he stopped you.

Consensual Encounter – A police encounter where you are not the subject of a police investigation and are free to leave. Officers don’t have to legally justify a consensual encounter because you can leave at any time.

Detention – A police encounter where you are temporarily stopped while the police investigate you for a crime. Officers must have a “reasonable suspicion” that you were involved in criminal activity to detain you.

Arrest – Permanently stopped and on your way to jail. An officer must have “Probable Cause” to believe you committed a crime to arrest you.”

In 2010, police in Parker County, Texas received a call from a confidential informant (CI) who claimed that Fred Wehrenberg and a number of associates “were fixin’” to cook meth. Hours after the call–at 12:30 A.M the following day–police entered the Wehrenberg home without a warrant and against the wishes of Wehrenberg. Police handcuffed all of the occupants, held them in the front yard, and proceeded to perform what the officers described as a “protective sweep” of the residence. An hour and a half later, after finding no meth being made on the premises, police prepared a search warrant affidavit and secured the warrant.

Texas prosecutors are applauding a decision by the State Court of Criminal Appeals that provides police officers a second chance to present evidence which has been gathered contrary to Texas law and the 4th Amendment. The ruling literally offers law enforcement a “do-over,” an opportunity to secure a search warrant AFTER a home has been illegally searched, and AFTER evidence has been improperly obtained.

Farm Bill Replaces Conspicuous Subsidies With Inconspicuous Subsidies

The Farm Bill: A Lesson In Government Failure

” As a consumer and as a taxpayer, the farm bill is a monstrosity. But as someone who teaches public finance and public choice economics, it is a great teaching tool.

Want to explain the concept of dead-weight loss? The farm bill’s insurance subsidies are a perfect illustration of the concept. They transfer resources from taxpayers to farm producers; but taxpayers lose more than producers gain.

Want to illustrate the folly of price controls? Sugar supports which force Americans to pay twice what global consumers pay are a fine illustration.”

 The 124 States Of America

The west and middle America: Take a look at some of the proposals for new states that have popped up over the years. California would be split into five states. Texas would become five, as well

” Imagine if all the secessionist movements in the history of the United States were successful.

Imagine if all the proposals put forward for states to withdraw from the union of the Unites States actually went ahead, how would America look today?

Those questions have been answered by a map that predicts the alternate universe of the USA based on all the threats or aspirations to secede from the United States.

The map, created by Mansfield University geography professor Andrew Shears, breaks the country up into 124 states. “
