Middle School Girl With Braces Kicked Out Of School For Cutting Fruit With Butter Knife

” Just when public schools seemed about to stop going insane with their recent rash of zero tolerance policies, a Massachusetts school had to throw itself into the fray. The standards for insane zero tolerance policies are, admittedly quite high. In the past couple of months we’ve seen kids, some as young as five years old, suspended, expelled, or otherwise disciplined for throwing an imaginary grenade; discussing a pink,”Hello Kitty” bubble gun; assembling a Lego gunusing fingers as a gun; chewing a Pop Tart into a gun shape; or bringing in photos of guns.

Recognizing stiff competition when it saw it, Wamsutta Middle School, in Attleboro, Massachusetts, decided to skip the guns altogether and go after knives – butter knives. Yes, a Middle School student was suspended because she used a butter knife to slice fruit into small pieces to accommodate her braces.MyFoxBoston.com reports that “the vice principal happened to be walking by when he apparently saw Morgan with the butter knife, took her to his office, and issued her a suspension.” “

So Now They Come For The Knives

British Medical Journal: Ban Long Knives

” What writer Mark Steyn has rightly called the “stupid and contemptible” public discourse on gun control in this country is getting even “stupider and contemptibler” overseas. The U.K. has once again done America a solid by providing a glimpse of the country’s Oceanic future: British medical “experts” are calling for kitchen cutlery control.

That’s right, America’s transatlantic in-laws, twice removed, have taken to contemplating a long knife ban in order to reduce the number of fatal stabbings.

A team from West Middlesex University Hospital said violent crime is on the increase – and kitchen knives are used in as many as half of all stabbings.

They argued many assaults are committed impulsively, prompted by alcohol and drugs, and a kitchen knife often makes an all too available weapon. The research is published in the British Medical Journal. The researchers said there was no reason for long pointed knives to be publicly available at all. ”

3 Killed by a Knife-Wielding Attacker on a ‘Gun-Free’ Campus

“An attack on Friday at a college in Wyoming left three people dead, including the alleged attacker. The assailant used a bow and arrow and a knife and, despite the “gun-free campus” policy, was still, nonetheless, able to kill.

How many more people have to die before society can just accept that this world is filled with dangerous people and that guns, when placed in the proper hands of responsible citizens, can greatly aid in the decline of senseless mayhem?

The characters and a few details always change, but the story remains the same. A student goes crazy and kills people. People wonder why, though there is never an answer more explanative than, “Some people are just crazy.” ”

From Protective Concepts :

” Consider the 21 foot rule.  Originally presented by Dennis Tueller, a sergeant in the Salt Lake City, Utah Police Department in an article called “How Close is Too Close?” published in SWAT Magazine in 1983, the 21 foot rule posits that a police officer with his or her weapon holstered will not be able to respond in time to stop an attacker armed with a knife attacking from 21 feet or less distance.  In other words someone with a knife can cover 21 feet (7 meters) of ground and attack the officer before he or she can draw their weapon and shoot the attacker.

In the years since the idea was first introduced it has been debated and some have argued the distance is actually more than 21 feet – proposing 30 feet or some other number.  We don’t need to dwell on this – suffice to say that there is a very real concern that a motivated assailant could attack an armed citizen / law enforcement officer / protective agent, etc. before they have an opportunity to use their weapon to defend themselves.  Additionally, it’s important to realize the attacker doesn’t need to have a knife or some other edged weapon.  An impact weapon or even bare hands can constitute a very significant threat if the attacker can rapidly close with and engage the victim . “

There is no doubt that having a weapon can save your life , but at the same time we must remember that having a gun is not enough in and of itself . The weapon is useless without the will to use it as this video amply demonstrates . It is in the Spanish language so the beginning may be as elusive to some of our readers as it was to us but once you get to the heart of the video ( about the 6:30 mark )  you will see that guns alone aren’t any guarantee of your personal safety .

” As we see illustrated in the 21 foot rule – having a firearm is no assurance if it can’t be deployed in time in the face of an oncoming threat “

” Armed concealed carrier stops a stabbing in front of school “

“The attack happened around 10:00 a.m. Tuesday outside the Bonham Academy on St. Mary’s Street. Teresa Barron, 38, had just dropped off her child at the school when the child’s father showed up, and the two got into an argument. The child’s father, 38-year-old Roberto Barron allegedly then
stabbed the woman several times in
the upper body and neck area.”

” Police say a bystander who happened to be a concealed handgun license holder pulled his weapon and ordered Barron to drop the knife. Barron surrendered and was taken into custody by the bystander and a school district officer. “
