ISIS-Fighting Britons Held At Heathrow Airport

” Two British men who joined Kurdish forces fighting Islamic State in Syria have told how they were treated as terrorism suspects on their return to the UK.

Former soldiers Jamie Read, 24, and James Hughes, 26, say they were taken to separate interview rooms at Heathrow Airport and questioned about their trip for six hours.

Anti-terrorism officers took their laptops and equipment and went through their phones, they said.

Mr Read told The Sun: “I was raging. They kept asking why we went, who we were with and were we being paid? We weren’t, of course.”

The pair went to Syria and fought alongside Kurdish forces in Kobani after IS filmed the brutal killing of British and American aid workers.”

” They said on Facebook before they went that they could “not do nothing while innocent men, women and children are tortured and murdered by Islamic State while the international community stands by and observes from the luxury of their boardrooms or their tanks on the hill [sic].”

The men had been warned that they would face police interviews if they returned to Britain. Sir Edward Garnier QC, the former solicitor general told BBC Radio 4 in November: “We are in a terrible grey area, not least because we don’t know enough about what they are doing.”

“ The United Kingdom is trying to defeat ISIL. But freelancers are not acting on behalf of the United Kingdom. They may well be guilty of murder, or other sorts of crimes, or they might not be guilty of anything.

“ It goes to the general story who go abroad to fight in other people’s wars place themselves not only in physical danger, but in that legal limbo land where they could, if they get on the wrong side of this almost invisible line, into trouble when they get home,” he said.

The Britons had joined a legion of 20 foreign fighters known as the Lions of Rojava, where they could be seen on the group’s website with the motto: “Send terrorists to hell and save humanity.” They were allegedly recruited by an American called Jordan Matson. “

So much for the spirit that produced 40,000 volunteers to fight fascism in the Abraham Lincoln Brigade 80 odd years ago . My how the West has fallen … Political correctness will be the death of us all .

US Obama Strategy In Tatters As Militants March On

” America’s plans to fight Islamic State are in ruins as the militant group’s fighters come close to capturing Kobani and have inflicted a heavy defeat on the Iraqi army west of Baghdad.

The US-led air attacks launched against Islamic State (also known as Isis) on 8 August in Iraq and 23 September in Syria have not worked. President Obama’s plan to “degrade and destroy” Islamic State has not even begun to achieve success. In both Syria and Iraq, Isis is expanding its control rather than contracting.

Isis reinforcements have been rushing towards Kobani in the past few days to ensure that they win a decisive victory over the Syrian Kurdish town’s remaining defenders. The group is willing to take heavy casualties in street fighting and from air attacks in order to add to the string of victories it has won in the four months since its forces captured Mosul, the second-largest city in Iraq, on 10 June. Part of the strength of the fundamentalist movement is a sense that there is something inevitable and divinely inspired about its victories, whether it is against superior numbers in Mosul or US airpower at Kobani.

In the face of a likely Isis victory at Kobani, senior US officials have been trying to explain away the failure to save the Syrian Kurds in the town, probably Isis’s toughest opponents in Syria. “Our focus in Syria is in degrading the capacity of [Isis] at its core to project power, to command itself, to sustain itself, to resource itself,” said US Deputy National Security Adviser Tony Blinken, in a typical piece of waffle designed to mask defeat. “The tragic reality is that in the course of doing that there are going to be places like Kobani where we may or may not be able to fight effectively.” “

Heads We Lose

” As ISIS prepares to take the Turkish border city of Kobani, the new Caliphate’s use of social media as a promotional tool (which is rather more effective than, say, the Democrats’ or Justin Trudeau’s) has begun to inspire what Obama would presumably call the jihad’s junior “junior varsity” teams:

Boko Haram, the extremist Islamic group, reportedly beheaded seven people Monday in Nigeria in revenge attacks, which were described by one resident as the way butchers “slaughter goats.”

From the report, you might get the impression that that’s a figure of speech. But it’s literally true. At the end of my piece on the beheading by an infidel-hating Muslim Oklahoman of his female colleague Colleen Hufford, I wrote:

It is not a pleasant way to die, in part because it requires more expertise than you might think. A decade ago, a young lady in my employ emailed a backgrounder on the subject to me in my room at the Grand Hyatt in Amman the night before I set off on my motoring tour of Iraq. If you’re lucky, your killer will insert the knife from the side, the sharp edge pointing to your front. One skilled thrust forward will cut the jugular, the carotid artery, the esophagus – and it will all be over in seconds. On the evidence of their social media videos, the ISIS boys are not that good: They go in from the front, blade facing backward, sawing back and forth for minutes on end. “
