Child In Lung Transplant Controversy Gets Donor

” Sarah Murnaghan, the 10-year-old Pennsylvania girl with cystic fibrosis who has been at the center of national controversy over transplant policy, was receiving an adult lung transplant on Wednesday.

Family spokeswoman Maureen Garrity said the child is getting lungs from one adult donor, ending a campaign by the family in the highly publicized case, which involved pressure from lawmakers and more recently intervention by a federal judge, to allow their child to receive adult lungs.

Garrity said the family got a call about the donor Tuesday night and found out the organs were a match Wednesday morning. Sarah Murnaghan went into the operating room shortly before noon Wednesday.

“Sarah got THE CALL. She will be taken back to the OR in 30min. Please pray for Sarah’s donor, her HERO, who has given her the gift of life,” her mother, Janet Murnaghan, wrote on Facebook on Wednesday morning.”
