Facebook Mulling Policy Changes On Gun-Themed Pages

” Facebook may announce company policy changes for gun-related pages in the coming weeks, VentureBeat has learned.

The social network has been under pressure from the powerful Mayors Against Illegal Guns and the Moms Demand Action civic group to ban gun-themed fan pages on the site.

The two advocacy groups recently joined forces to pressure what they say is their stated objective of seeing “Facebook get out of the gun business.” Mayors Against Illegal Guns was co-founder by former NYC three-term mayor and billionaire Michael Bloomberg along with Boston’s then-mayor Thomas Menino in 2006. Mayors of more than 1,100 U.S. cities belong to the organization.

A Moms Demand Action petition on Change.org to prohibit gun sales on Facebook and Facebook-owned Instagram has over 94,000 signatures. Comedian Sarah Silverman recently tweeted about the campaign, which is getting massive exposure through U.S. media outlets.

The petition is addressed to Instagram chief executive Kevin Systrom and Facebook co-founder and chief executive Mark Zuckerberg:

To:
Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook CEO
Kevin Systrom, Instagram CEO
Your platforms unfortunately allow users to buy, sell, and trade firearms without requiring criminal background checks.Other online platforms including Craigslist, eBay, and Google+ have already prohibited these sales.I ask that you put an end to this completely unregulated social media gun show and prohibit gun sales from your platforms immediately.

Sincerely,
[Your name] “

Since nothing is actually bought or sold through Facebook how will they prevent people from using their website to conduct illegal activities ? The obvious answer would be to ban all references to guns on the pages . If that is in fact their chosen method to appease the Nanny Bloombergs among us then we are looking at a ban on gun-related pages which from our point of view will result in an end to our association with the social media giant .

Valley View: Mayoral Group’s Gun Agenda Is Wrong

Poughkeepsie mayor

” I’m the mayor of one of the largest cities in the Hudson Valley, just 90 minutes north of New York City. I’m a life member of the National Rifle Association and a former member of Mayors Against Illegal Guns, or MAIG, started by New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg in 2006.

I’m no longer a member of MAIG. Why? Just as Ronald Reagan said of the Democratic Party, it left me. And I’m not alone: Nearly 50 pro-Second Amendment mayors have left the organization. They left for the same reason I did. MAIG became a vehicle for Bloomberg to promote his personal gun-control agenda — violating the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens and taking resources away from initiatives that could actually work to protect our neighborhoods and save precious lives. Gun control will actually make a bad situation worse.

It did not take long to realize that MAIG’s agenda was much more than ridding felons of illegal guns; that under the guise of helping mayors facing a crime and drug epidemic, MAIG intended to promote confiscation of guns from law-abiding citizens. I don’t believe, never have believed and never will believe that public safety is enhanced by encroaching on our right to bear arms, and I will not be a part of any organization that does.”

Ex-Marcus Hook Mayor Sentenced To 10-20 Months

” Despite impassioned pleas from family and friends of former Marcus Hook Mayor James Schiliro, a Delaware County Court judge on Monday sent him to jail.”

” Schiliro was sentenced to 10 to 20 months for an alcohol-fueled episode last February in which he had a police car bring a former neighbor – a 20-year-old to whom he said he was attracted – to his home, made him drink wine, and refused to let him leave for 3 1/2 hours.

During the encounter, Schiliro threatened to kill himself and fired a gun into a stack of papers. The man eventually left and later called police.

In November, Schiliro was convicted of recklessly endangering another person, unlawful restraint, false imprisonment, official oppression, and furnishing liquor to a minor.”

Left unsaid in the above referenced article is the convicted mayor’s former membership in Nanny Bloomberg’s anti-gun group MAIG . You can read about the original event here .

Bloomberg Anti-Gun Group Loses 97 Percent Of Va. Delegate Races

” 2013 was a lousy year for Mayors Against Illegal Guns, a group co-founded by New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Boston Mayor Thomas Menino. Despite the millions of dollars the group and Bloomberg himself contributed to support gun control laws and candidates who support them, they had little success to show for it.

Although Mayors Against Illegal Guns’ efforts helped defeat GOP gubernatorial candidate Ken Cuccinelli, no one seriously expected him to win. However, of the 67 Virginia House of Delegates candidates endorsed by the National Rifle Association and targeted by Bloomberg’s group, 65 won, according to the Washington Examiner.”

MAIG Rally Shutdown By Gun Owners

” A rally organized by advocates of gun control was overrun by liberty minded gun owners who have had enough. The anti-gun rally held in front of the State House in Columbus by members of the infamousMayors Against Illegal Guns (MAIG) was intended to show support for expanded background checks, but things didn’t go as they had expected.

Only a handful of MAIG supporters attended the rally based upon news media reports, they numbered fewer than a dozen. When members of the Buckeye Firearms Foundation caught wind of the gathering of Bloomberg cronies, they turned out in force. Media reports place their numbers at 50 or more.”

Pro Gun Supporters Outnumber Anti Gunners 2-1 At Bloomberg Gun Event In Atlanta

” According to an article by Claude Werner, a firearms instructor and competitive shooter, the “event” held by anti gun New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg in Atlanta today was a bust.

Werner, who attended the event said that pro gun supporters from the grass roots pro gun organization GeorgiaCarry.org outnumbered the anti gun crowd at least 2-1. It also seems that many of those attending for the anti gun side of things were part of the Bloomberg bus tour.”

Bloomberg Using Taxpayer Resources To Publish And Maintain Anti Gun Websites

” The MAIG Action Fund (which is supposedly separate from the main MAIG organization) is registered as a 501c4 non-profit, you know, the same designation that the IRS refused to many conservative groups for being “political” in nature. The organization is largely funded by Bloomberg’s personal fortune and the mayor has spent over $14 million of his own funds on the group.

According to POLITICO, several domain names for the organization are registered with and maintained by New York City’s IT department and city employees. From the report,

Two domains – mayorsagainstillegalguns.com and mayorsagainstillegalguns.org – both list the New York City Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications as the registrants.”

Second Amendment Foundation Responds To Bloomberg With National Education Campaign

” In response to Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s national anti-gun ad campaign, the Second Amendment Foundation today launched a public education and awareness effort on more than 160 radio station websites and the Fox News Radio website.

The audio spots and banner advertisements will run in conjunction with streamed nationally-syndicated talk radio programs including Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Gov. Mike Huckabee and Michael Medved, among others to explain its legal and educational efforts and encourage public support.

Major radio stations and markets will include WABC, New York City; KABC, Los Angeles; WBBM, Chicago; WNTP, Philadelphia; KLIF, Dallas; KGO, San Francisco; WBZ, Boston; WWRC, Washington, D.C., and markets in Atlanta, Houston, Seattle, Phoenix, Tampa, Minneapolis and Detroit.”

Bloomberg: If You Sell A Gun To Your Son, ‘There’s Something Wrong In Your Family

” In a radio appearance on Friday, Bloomberg, a gun control activist and co-chair of Mayors Against Illegal Guns, praised the legislation that is now moving forward in the Senate.  The bill would require universal background checks for most sales of firearms, including those online and at gun shows.

“The only thing it would not cover is if you sold a gun to your son, for example,” Bloomberg told radio host John Gambling.  “Number one, I don’t know how we would ever enforce that if it were the law. So to make a big deal about that’s carved out, so what? It doesn’t change anything.”

“Number two, I would argue if you want to sell your gun to your son, maybe you have a problem in your family,” he said.  “Why don’t you just give—I don’t know if you should have a gun or not, but if you have a commercial transaction of $100 with your son, there’s something wrong in your family.”

We would just point out Mr Mayor , number one … That most guns cost a lot more than $100 , and , number two … that most families are not quite so moneyed as yours . We gun-owners are mostly not of the 1% like yourself and consequently may not be able to afford to just “give away” things , even to family members .

And that’s not to even mention the life lesson taught by parent to child about having to work for things that you want . Your ignorance of the common folk rivals that of the rest of the ruling class in Albany and DC .

Bloomberg Group Grades Lawmakers’ Gun Votes

” New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg‘s Mayors Against Illegal Guns coalition will now rate lawmakers on their gun records, the coalition’s director said.

The coalition of more than 900 mayors across the country was expected to announce a scoring system Tuesday, with grades of A through F, much like those of the National Rifle Association, Director Mark Glaze told The Washington Post.

“For decades, the NRA has done an admirable job of tracking to minute detail how members of Congress stand on gun bills. We’ve simply decided to do the same,” Glaze said.

NRA spokesman Andrew Arulanandam told the Post the Mayors Against Illegal Guns scoring system would likely not have the same effect as the NRA’s.”

A Pro-Gun Blogger Crashes MAIG’s Press Conference (VIDEO)

“Harry Reid’s bill, S649 includes an almost carbon copy of Senator Shumer’s ‘Fix Gun Checks Act.’ That bill would have criminalized something I did last year. My wife wanted to learn to shoot my Ruger 10/22. I took my rifle to a friend’s farm and gave it to him. My wife went up to his farm and he taught her to shoot it safely out on the ‘back forty.’ Then he put it in her truck and she brought it home. He had the rifle for about 4 months. S649 would put all three of us in Federal prison for 5 years each, minimum. I asked the mayors, ‘How would making me, my wife, and our friend Mike into federal felons keep criminals from selling guns to each other on the streets of Durham, Morrisville, or Chapel Hill?’”

‘Mayor Against Illegal Guns’ Arrested In Gun-Related Incident [Video]

” Marcus Hook, PA — A member of the Michael Bloomberg-sponsored gun control organization “Mayors Against Illegal Guns” has been arrested and charged in connection with a handgun incident at his home.

James Schiliro, a.k.a. Jay Schiliro, the mayor of Marcus Hook, a small town in Delaware County, Pennsylvania, faces charges of official oppression, reckless endangerment, unlawful restraint, false imprisonment, and furnishing a minor with alcohol. He surrendered to authorities on Thursday morning, and his attorney declared that “we intend to fight these charges.”

Schiliro, 38, allegedly ordered a local police officer to bring a 20-year-old male friend to his home, where the mayor plied him with alcohol, and made sexual advances which the man refused. Schiliro allegedly brandished several handguns and fired one of them into the floor in an apparent attempt to intimidate the young man, who reportedly was in fear of his life.”

Mayors Gone Wild

” Mayors Against Illegal Guns member and Democratic Gainesville, Fla., Mayor Craig Lowe was arrested on charges of driving under the influence and property damage after police found him asleep in his car at the scene of a crash last Thursday.

Police said Lowe appeared intoxicated and his Honda Civic was badly damaged, according to WKMG in Orlando.

Lowe was one of 30 mayors featured in a recent ad released by Mayors Against Illegal Guns, a gun-restriction lobbying group led by New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

Other members and former members of Mayors Against Illegal Guns have previously been charged with felony corruptionassault of a police officer, and child sex crimes.”

Guy In Bloomberg Gun-Control Ads Breaks All The Major Rules Of Gun Safety

” We’ve talked about this before. When it comes to gun safety, the physicians in the Democratic Party are not so into healing themselves.

In the latest example, we have Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s $12 million ads, which Emily Miller points out, break the three first rules of gun safety. The NRA isn’t just an association of those who treasure their Second Amendment rights. It’s also the biggest gun safety organization in the U.S., and it teaches these rules every day.

Mr. Bloomberg’s organization, Mayors Against Illegal Guns, produced two ads featuring a man holding a shotgun, wearing plaid flannel with a camouflage cap and sitting on the tailgate of a pickup truck. While a child swings on a tire in the background, the man says, “I support comprehensive background checks so criminals and the dangerously mentally ill can’t buy guns.”

The ad does not specify if the man is an actor, but the text accompanying it says he is a “gun owner.” Either way, the man violates all three gun safety rules taught by the National Rifle Association (NRA).”

Retired General Tells Biden: Military Can Help With Gun Control Agenda

Patriots , this kind of leadership is what should give us all cause for concern that the military has become just another tool of statism .

” Ahead of a Senate hearing on gun control today, Vice President Joe Biden met with retired military officials to thrash out a strategy to win over public approval for the implementation of strict anti-gun measures.

Retired general Stephen Xenakis told The Hill that he suggested to Biden that members of the military could help the White House move forward with its gun control agenda.

“The vice president understands that when it comes to communicating with credibility on guns, the two groups with the most credibility are law enforcement and military officials,” he said. “We have experience with both having weapons and using them responsibly, so we can get that message out.”

Xenakis said that military officials would be on hand to pitch gun control talking points to the public.

“He has a plan and he’s working with leaders in Congress to get it done.” Xenakis said of the Vice President.

Xenakis also appeared in a new “Demand a Plan” gun control advocating commercial this week, featuring several other retired army generals, put out by the Mayors Against Illegal Guns group, fronted by New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg.”

Mayors Against Illegal Guns Threaten Gun Buy Boycott Over Gun Control

” “If we find out they’re not partners, and if we find out they’re working against us, then we all ought to have a conversation as taxpayers about whether our dollars should be used for people who are not working to reduce gun violence.” That’s the threat issued by Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak (above) against gun and ammo makers who don’t tow the line laid down by The Mayors Against Illegal Guns. minnesota.publicradio.org reports that “Rybak told members of the City Council’s Public Safety and Civil Rights Committee that he and mayors from approximately 60 cities are taking a closer look at the companies that manufacture the guns and ammunition that cities buy for police officers . “

Typical statist scapegoating … blame the private sector for the failures of government policies .

We can’t keep the people safe so it must be … your fault .

” A recent CNN article confirms that this is in fact the strategy of anti-gun forces.  Mark Glaze, director of Mayors Against Illegal Guns, made the following comments in an interview with CNN.

“Look, when this kind of thing happens, we have to make the case in that very short window — what went wrong, why it went wrong, how you can fix it — in a way that motivates Congress to do what it should.  With something as terrible as this is, involving children, the window is open a little wider than it has been before.  I think my back of the envelope is usually about a month.  But after the series of mass shootings and the gravity of this one, I think we may have a little more time.”Anti-gun forces know that they must strike while emotions are high to capitalize on irrational thought driven by these emotions.  They know that once the hysteria subsides and cooler heads prevail, people aren’t as willing to surrender their Constitutional freedoms.  This is why you see people like Dianne Feinstein racing to the first camera she can find to promote her most recent gun grab proposal.”

Bloomberg U.S.A.

” It looks like Americans are in for a long campaign by Mayor Bloomberg to exploit the killings at Newtown, Connecticut, for his campaign against what he likes to call “illegal guns.” The children slain in Connecticut hadn’t even been identified when Mr. Bloomberg was issuing statements attacking President Obama for failing to take “immediate” action. The thing for the rest of America to keep in mind about Mr. Bloomberg is that in his hometown he has become known for playing a very slippery game.

This starts with the name of one of the organizations Mr. Bloomberg uses, known as Mayors Against Illegal Guns. In fact it plumps for prohibitions on guns that are currently legal. The organization likes to quote police chiefs who are for more gun control. This line of argument was demolished after the Aurora, Colorado, massacre, by the Wall Street Journal. It issued a piece by John Lott reporting that the overwhelming majority of police chiefs surveyed in America believe that “any law-abiding citizen [should] be able to purchase a firearm for sport or self-defense.”

That, Mr. Lott noted, was the finding of the National Association of Chiefs of Police. It covered more than 20,000 chiefs of police and sheriffs. Adds Mr. Lott: “Seventy-seven percent believed that concealed-handgun permits issued in one state should be honored by other states ‘in the way that drivers’ licenses are recognized through the country’—and that making citizens’ permits portable would ‘facilitate the violent crime-fighting potential of the professional law enforcement community.’”
