Three Middle School Students Arrested On Conspiracy Charges

” Three middle school students face serious charges after police say they were planning to cause “chaos” at their school.

Two have been arrested; one is in the hospital and has been served with a warrant, FOX 13’s Josh Cascio reported from a Lakeland Police Department news conference.

The student in the hospital is being held under Florida’s Baker Act, a law that allows someone to be involuntarily committed for psychiatric evaluation, and examined for up to three days.

The students are charged with conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit aggravated battery, and conspiracy to construct destructive devices. They are two girls and a boy, ages 12 and 13, police said.

The arrests may have averted a potential crisis at Sleepy Hill Middle School, the Lakeland Police Department said Friday.

Police say they were contacted by the school on April 2 about “disturbing” information in a student’s notebook. Investigators say the kids’ plans to build and set off explosives unraveled when a guidance counselor found writings in one of the girls’ notebooks. “

Shortly thereafter, the school wiped Wright’s name from the school website and unceremoniously fired her.”

Massachusetts Principal Calls Off Honors Night Because It Could Be ‘Devastating’ To Students Who Missed Mark

” MyFoxBoston.com reports that David Fabrizio, principal of Ipswich Middle School, notified parents last week of his plan to eliminate the event.

“The Honors Night, which can be a great sense of pride for the recipients’ families, can also be devastating to a child who has worked extremely hard in a difficult class but who, despite growth, has not been able to maintain a high grade-point average,” Fabrizio penned in his first letter to parents, the station reported.

Fabrizio also said he decided to make the change because academic success can be influenced by the amount of support a student  receives at home and not all students receive the same level of emotional and academic support at home.”

Armed Guard Disarmed Teen In Atlanta School Shooting

” Atlanta • A student opened fire at his middle school Thursday afternoon, wounding a 14-year-old in the neck before an armed officer working at the school was able to get the gun away, police said.

Multiple shots were fired in the courtyard of Price Middle School just south of downtown around 1:50 p.m. and the one boy was hit, Atlanta Police Chief George Turner said. In the aftermath, a teacher received minor cuts, he said.

Investigators believe the shooting was not random and that something occurred between the two students that may have led to it.”
