50 Facts That Show How Far America Has Fallen In This Generation

” What has happened to America?  Please show these numbers to anyone that does not believe that the United States is in decline.  It is time for all of us to humble ourselves and face the reality of what has happened to our once great nation.  For those of us that love America, it is heartbreaking to watch the foundations of our society rot and decay in thousands of different ways.  The following are 50 facts that show how far America has fallen in this generation, but the truth is that this list could have been far, far longer…

#1 According to a survey that was just conducted, only 36 percent of all Americans can name the three branches of government.

#2 Only 25 percent of all Americans know how long U.S. Senators are elected for (6 years), and only 20 percent of all Americans know how many U.S. senators there are.

#4 For the first time ever, single Americans make up more than half the U.S. population.

#3 Even if you include same-sex couples in the numbers, the marriage rate in the United States is at a 93 year low.

#5 31.1 percent of American young adults in the 18 to 34-year-old age bracket are currently living with their parents.

#6 One out of every ten teen girls in America engages in “self-harm”.  Cutting and burning are the most common forms that this “self-harm” takes.

#12 An astounding 30 percent of all Internet traffic now goes to adult websites.

#13 Right now, 30 million Americans are on antidepressants.

#14 Americans account for about five percent of the global population, but we buy more than 50 percent of the pharmaceutical drugs.

#15 Americans consume a whopping 80 percent of all prescription painkillers.

#16 According to a study conducted by the Mayo Clinic, nearly 70 percent of all Americans are on at least one prescription drug, and 20 percent of all Americans are on at least five prescription drugs.

#17 Approximately 60 million Americans have a problem with alcohol addiction.

#18 Heroin traffic in New York City is at a 20 year high. “

If You Are Concerned About The Decline Of Morals In America, You Should Cheer On This Mom

” In the eyes of many Americans, our culture has devolved to the point that even a trip to the mall is sullied by suggestive ads and inappropriate images. For one mother in Utah, a recent shopping excursion was the final straw.”

” As Judy Cox walked through a mall in Orem with her son, she noticed one particular storefront that immediately caught her attention.”

“ We were on our way to another store, we passed the PacSun store and I stopped dead in my tracks,” she recalled. A selection of four T-shirts depicting women in various stages of undress were prominently being displayed in the display window for all passersby to see.”

“ The bottom of one woman is completely exposed,” she explained, “uncovered, and it’s a very provocative pose she’s in.”

” While some may consider her outrage an overreaction, photos of the shirts in question were ruled too risqué to be shown on television. They were not, however, deemed inappropriate enough to warrant a less visible location in the popular store.”

So the offending shirts were deemed inappropriate for viewing on the news broadcast yet were fine for all the world to see in the Pac-Sun window ? … Incredible … Good for you Ms Cox .

Seven Moral Arguments For Free Trade

” Daniel Griswold argues that free trade is not only more efficient than protectionism but also more moral.”

” One: Free Trade Respects Individual Dignity and Sovereignty

A man or woman engaged in honest work has a basic right to enjoy the fruits of his or her labor. It is a violation of my right to property for the government to forbid me to exchange what I produce for something produced by a fellow human being, whether the person I’m trading with lives across town or across the ocean.

Protectionism is a form of stealing, a violation of the Eighth Commandment and other prohibitions against theft. It takes from one group of people, usually a broad cross section of consumers, and gives the spoils to a small group of producers whose only claim to the money is that they would be worse off under open competition.

Free trade meets the most elementary test of justice, giving to each person sovereign control over that which is his own. As Frederic Bastiat wrote in his 1849 essay, “Protectionism and Communism”:

Every citizen who has produced or acquired a product should have the option of applying it immediately to his own use or of transferring it to whoever on the face of the earth agrees to give him in exchange the object of his desires. To deprive him of this option when he has committed no act contrary to public order and good morals, and solely to satisfy the convenience of another citizen, is to legitimize an act of plunder and to violate the law of justice.”

Read the whole thing . The essay dates from 2001 but that does nothing to diminish the validity of Mr Griswold’s argument . On the contrary , the intervening years of State growth and the corresponding inflation , depression and recession demonstrate more than words how the morality of the free market far surpasses that of the coercive State .

Scandals May No Longer End Political Careers

” Sex. Drugs. Cheating on a spouse.

Those words used to add up to shame. Put them in the same sentence as a politician’s name, and they ended careers.

Not anymore. The latest batch of unlikely back-from-the-swamp hopefuls are Anthony Weiner and Eliot Spitzer. Weiner resigned his New York City congressional seat two years ago after revelations that he’d tweeted a sexually suggestive picture of himself to a woman who was following him on Twitter. Spitzer left the state’s governorship in 2008 after reports surfaced that federal investigators had tagged him as “Client 9,” soliciting high-end prostitutes.

Each now has a decent shot at a big prize, Weiner New York’s Democratic mayoral nomination, Spitzer the city’s comptroller job. Spitzer led his closest rival by 9 percentage points in a Wall Street Journal-NBC 4-Marist poll released Thursday.

They join the growing roster of comebacks, or at least serious attempts, by scandal-tarred politicians:”
