Marcus Luttrell Talks ‘Lone Survivor’

Marcus Luttrell

” There’s no way a whirlwind of movie screenings, press conferences and interviews in Manhattan five-star hotels ever entered Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell’s mind during the five days he struggled to survive during Operation Redwing in 2005. He wrote a memoir in tribute to his fallen comrades (Lone Survivor: The Eyewitness Account of Operation Redwing and the Lost Heroes of SEAL Team 10that became a bestseller and that book is now a movie (Lone Survivor) that stars Mark Wahlberg as Luttrell.

Luttrell seems like he’s treating this entire process as a continuation of Operation Redwing, that getting the story out about the men who died is a necessary step to completing the mission. He spent a lot of time on set during filming of the movie and now he’s traveling around the world to promote the film. We had a chance to speak with him one-on-one and he talked about his decision to write a book, the experience of working with director Peter Berg and how realistic they tried to be in portraying the mission.”

Scott Cooper Replacing Ben Affleck As Director Of Stephen King’s ‘The Stand’

” Warner Bros has set Scott Cooper to re-write and direct The Stand, the seminal post-apocalyptic Stephen King novel. That means that while the studio has Ben Affleck as its new Caped Crusader for Batman Vs. Superman, Affleck has withdrawn from The Stand. He had been set in late 2011 to write the script and direct. Affleck is busy directing and starring in his scripted adaptation of Dennis Lehane’s Live By Night for Warner Bros.”

Mad Max: Fury Road Moves Forward

” Early this year, they found one (new location) in South Africa, and filming began this summer. Now the studio has announced that principal photography is finished. Director George Miller offered up a brief, unofficial synopsis in the press release:

“Mad Max is caught up with a group of people fleeing across the Wasteland in a War Rig driven by the Imperator Furiosa. This movie is an account of the Road War which follows. It is based on the Word Burgers of the History Men and eyewitness accounts of those who survived.” “

The 100 Best Sci-Fi Movies of All Time

” Cinema exists to project our dreams. Science-fiction cinema exists to project our most creative dreams—time-travel, alternate worlds, expanded consciousness, and more. That’s why we’re science-fiction maniacs and why we gathered up our top 100 movies. And if your favorite isn’t on here, we want to hear about it. (Warning: Here be spoilers.) ”

” 31. Mad Max (1979)

It’s a classic Western seen through the lens of post-apocalyptic Australia. The gonzo cinematography still gets your blood pumping, yet the film is just impressionistic enough to rev up your imagination’s engine. And it’s hard to overemphasize the effect of Mad Max‘s style on other genre films, rock videos, and advertising.

There’s been talk of a fourth installment for years. I, for one, would really like to see it happen.”

Review: Director Peter Jackson Takes ‘An Unexpected Journey’ With Untested Technology

” The first entry of Peter Jackson’s Hobbit trilogy is a well paced, exciting piece of work, a welcome return to the world of Middle Earth Jackson so vividly brought to life between 2001 and 2003 in his massive, and massively profitable, Lord of the Rings films.

But then, I could be wrong. The film, as viewed in the director’s preferred format of “high frame rate” 3D, veers wildly from a stately demonstration of 3D’s potential, to a cheap-looking mess better suited for a local PBS affiliate, to a pan-and-scanned-to-death feature on basic cable. Such incongruities occasionally leave the audience wondering what, exactly, it has just seen. “

”  ‘Argo’ Blurs Truth About Iran “

” Ben Affleck’s new movie boasts great photography and acting, but runs the risk of leaving viewers with an incomplete and at times inaccurate impression, says the American hiker who was held hostage in Iran for 410 days.

Anyone who’s ever been captured knows the punishing fantasy of rescue. During the 410 days that I was held hostage in Iran, the most common escape scenario I played in my head involved the door of my cell bursting open in the dead of night to reveal a group of heavily armed men who, with my now-husband Shane Bauer and friend Josh Fattal in tow, would lead us to a helicopter waiting nearby to fly us to safety. “

Runaway Slave

“Rev. C.L. Bryant is making waves with his new documentary,Runaway Slave. I had the
opportunity to preview the film in Bossier City, Louisiana, and I found the documentary thoroughly compelling.

Runaway Slave was conceived by Rev. Bryant and supported by private donations and
FreedomWorks. It has been well-received in private screenings so far, often receiving standing ovations, and is poised to open in select theaters across the country next week. While at Regal Cinema 9 in Bossier City, it was the highest grossing film there.”

   “Obama’s Stolen Valor”

” It may or may not be a coincidence that film director Kathryn Bigelow and screenwriter Mark Boal have an October 2012 release date for a movie about the killing of Osama bin Laden.

There is little doubt, however, that the Obama campaign will use it to remind voters that the perpetrator of 9/11 died on Barack Obama’s watch. Those who oppose this self-serving exploitation of the valor of our Navy SEALs can turn it against the Obama campaign with a short and simple response “Obama’s Stolen Valor.” It is in fact short enough to fit on a bumper sticker. ”
