Gun Crisis? What Gun Crisis? Part II

” It’s not just Pew. This Department of Justice report makes embarrassing reading for those who spend their time trying to make it appear as if America is in the middle of a gun-crime wave. The headlines:

  • Firearm-related homicides declined 39%, from 18,253 in 1993 to 11,101 in 2011.
  • Nonfatal firearm crimes declined 69%, from 1.5 million victimizations in 1993 to 467,300 victimizations in 2011.
  • For both fatal and nonfatal firearm victimizations, the majority of the decline occurred during the 10-year period from 1993 to 2002.

Visually, the decline is particularly striking:

Lest you think that category an anomaly : Controlled by race , sex , region , and even non-fatalities doesn’t matter . The trend is the same . Down , down , down . Even school shooting deaths are down 33% since 1993 , despite what the media would have you believe .

Gun Deaths In The USA

” In a story titled “Gun deaths shaped by race in America”, the Washington Post cites statistics showing how race ties into gun-related deaths in the USA.

The statistical difference is dramatic, according to a Washington Post analysis of data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. A white person is five times as likely to commit suicide with a gun than to be shot with a gun; for each African American who uses a gun to commit suicide, five are killed by other people with guns.”

” Out of the 165,068 murders that took place between the years 2000 and 2010, 1,172 were committed by American Indians, and 2,156 were committed by people of Asian or Pacific Island descent.  15,843 of the murders were committed by Hispanics, 49,936 by non-Hispanic Whites and 68,531 by Blacks.

Despite the fact that the USA has the world’s highest rate of gun ownership, the gun homicide rate in the USA is roughly 3 per 1,000 people (as reported by Richard Florida of The Atlantic Cities andby Simon Rogers of The Guardian). Yet, the gun homicide rate isn’t uniform through the nation. Instead, it is highest in particular urban areas, as seen in the image below.”

” Now, compare the gun murder rate in the USA to the rate of gun ownership in the USA.”

” Apparently, there is no correlation between the percentage of legal gun ownership and the gun murder rate.

As for the significantly-high black-on-black murder rate that Barbara Reynolds cites (and that the Washington Post dances around), that rate could simply be the result of where the perpetrators live. Densely-populated urban areas have been known as areas of violence as long as there have been densely-populated urban areas, even when there were no guns to control.  The high black-on-black murder rate in the USA could simply be the result of the USA’s African-American population being heavily concentrated in urban areas.”

Hugo Chavez Outlaws Gun Ownership, Murder Rate Hits 21,692

” While the US murder total for 2012 isn’t in yet, the Venezuelan murder total has hit 21,692, up from 18,000 last year, despite a ban on private ownership of guns enacted by the Chavez regime this year.

Hugo Chavez’s government says the ultimate aim is to disarm all civilians, but his opponents say the police and government may not have the capacity or the will to enforce the new law.

Or enough bulletproof vests, from the looks of things.

Venezuela’s glorious Socialist murder rate still lags behind Mexico at 25,000 and Brazil at 40,000 or Obama’s Indonesian homeland at 19,000, but with dedication and commitment from all the workers and peasants, Venezuela will not only surpass the Yanquis, but utterly vanquish them in the number of people murdered each year. ”
