Paris Drones: New Wave Of Alerts

Ten more drones have been spotted flying over Paris and reports say police are searching for four men after a chase in the east of the city.

The latest drones were seen hovering near the Eiffel Tower and several other areas further away from the centre.

Some 60 drones have been sighted since October, over nuclear installations and central Paris, the government says.”

” The most recent have all been over Paris, prompting security fears after the murders of 17 people last month.

Security at key sites in Paris was tightened last month after the killings by Islamist gunmen at Charlie Hebdo magazine, in Montrouge and a kosher supermarket.

Flying drones over the capital is banned without a license and no night flights are allowed over the city at all. The heightened security presence was thought to be one of the reasons why the unmanned aerial vehicles were spotted.”

10 Hours Of Fear And Loathing In Paris

” One month after the terrorist attack on a kosher supermarket in Paris, NRG’s correspondent, wearing a tzitzit and a kippa, took what proved to be an intimidating walk across the French capital. “What is he doing here Mommy? Doesn’t he know he will be killed?” one little boy asked, saying it all .

” Go f*** from the front and the back,” “Viva Palestine,” “Hey you, with the kippa, what are you doing here?” these were only a few of the remarks sent my way as I was walking through the streets of Paris wearing a tzitzit and a kippa.

Welcome to Paris 2015, where soldiers are walking every street that houses a Jewish institution, and where keffiyeh-wearing men and veiled women speak Arabic on every street corner. Walking down one Parisian suburb, I was asked what I doing there. In modern-day Paris, you see, Jews are barred from entering certain areas.

For 10 hours I quietly walked down the streets and suburbs of Paris, with photographer Dov Belhassen documenting the day using a GoPro camera hidden in his backpack. Given the tensions in Paris, which is still reeling from a wave of terrorist attacks (including the murder of Charlie Hebdo magazine journalists), I was assigned a bodyguard.

Areas known as tourist attractions were relatively calm, but the further from them we walked, the more anxious I became over the hateful stares, the belligerent remarks, and the hostile body language.”

BBC Mocks Admin’s James Taylor Outreach To France: ‘No Better Definition Of Soft Power’

This statement from the comments on the video sums things up nicely:

” In the kind of response that sounds like a joke — even to liberal journalists — Secretary of State John Kerry brought Seventies pop star James Taylor (now almost 67) to sing his old chestnut “You’ve Got a Friend’ to the French as a show of support after President Obama blew off the “historic” rally of world leaders last Sunday.

Charlie Hebdo’s First Post-Terrorism Cover Earns Widespread Praise

Source: www.liberation.fr

” Undeterred after previous depictions of Muhammad garnered threats from Islamic extremists, French satire magazine Charlie Hebdo was the site of a terrorist attack last week that left 12 dead. Despite the violent incident and worldwide attention it received, the outlet’s surviving staff members proved this week that even such a calculated attack will not cause them to retreat from their mission.

Attorney Richard Malka spoke on behalf of the magazine ahead of the release of its first edition after the deadly incident.

“ We will not give in,” he said, “otherwise all this won’t have meant anything.”

Monday’s edition supported Malka’s assertion and included a cover image depicting Muhammad shedding a tear while holding a ‘Je Suis Charlie’ banner

The phrase , meaning “I am Charlie” in English, has been the rallying cry of free speech supporters around the world. Venerable American cartoon series The Simpsons included a scene featuring Maggie Simpson holding such a sign in its latest episode.

Hollande Asked Netanyahu Not To Attend Paris Memorial March

” French President Francois Hollande conveyed a message to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over the weekend asking him not to come to Paris to take part in the march against terror on Sunday, according to an Israeli source who was privy to the contacts between the Elysees Palace and the Prime Minister’s Office in Jerusalem. The fact that this message had been conveyed was first reported by Channel 2.

After the French government began to send invitations to world leaders to participate in the rally against terror, Hollande’s national security adviser, Jacques Audibert, contacted his Israeli counterpart, Yossi Cohen, and said that Hollande would prefer that Netanyahu not attend, the source said.

Audibert explained that Hollande wanted the event to focus on demonstrating solidarity with France, and to avoid anything liable to divert attention to other controversial issues, like Jewish-Muslim relations or the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Audibert said that Hollande hoped that Netanyahu would understand the difficulties his arrival might pose and would announce that he would not be attending.”

Sarah Palin Hammers Obama For His Snub Of The Paris Anti-Terror Rally

” President Barack Obama is coming under increasing criticism for his no-show at the massive anti-terrorism, pro-free speech rally in Paris that took place on Sunday. While virtually every other world leader was in attendance including those of France, Germany, the Ukraine, Israel, Jordan, and the Palestinian Authority, not one major American official, not even Attorney General Eric Holder who flew out of Paris over the weekend, choose to show up. Sunday, Sarah Palin, the former Alaska governor, former vice presidential candidate, and current most powerful female politician on the planet, took to Facebook pm Sunday to demand why.

She started her post by praising the unprecedented rally, which placed over a million people in the streets of Paris, as a powerful answer to the evil inflicted by the Islamist terrorists last week. Then she noted the one man who was conspicuous by his absence. Palin’s condemnation was damning.”

#JeSuisCharlie – But You’re Not

” So much for national unity:

Just a day after the Charlie Hebdo shooting left 12 dead and had politicians calling for the country to unite, a row between politicians broke out after the National Front were not invited to take part in Sunday’s rally for “national unity” in Paris.

In the most recent national election in France, Marine Le Pen’s National Front won. So the national unity rally excludes the most popular national party. That seems likely to work.

~The French establishment is co-opting these brave men’s deaths for their own purposes, and for the most part the world’s media are helping them get away with it. I spent much of Thursday on TV and radio, and my irritation with the dismal #JeSuisCharlie campaign increased as the day wore on. The self-flattering evasiveness of all those cartoonists around the world offering lame variations of “the pen is mightier than the sword” was especially feeble. The cartoon at right, by Chimulus (Michel Faizant) of Le Nouvel Observateur, at least confronts the ugly truth of Wednesday morning, rather than tippy-toeing around it:

Mohammed publishes a comic strip on the death of Charb.

With plenty of boxes.

The only problem? Chimulus drew that two years ago – December 31st 2012. This week, when his remarkably prescient cartoon came true, his courage deserted him.

~As to those TV and radio appearances, first up was with Joyce Kaufman at 850 WFTL in Florida, which you can hear by clicking here. It was a lively ride: as Scaramouche says, “Made my day.” “

Read it all and treat yourself to a second helping of Mr Steyn’s blistering attacks on Western hypocrisy  , the opening of which is here:

” The French authorities killed three murderous savages yesterday. That was the only good news on a day in which a third hostage siege began in Montpellier. The bad news started at the top, with President Hollande’s statement after the Charlie Hebdo slaughter and the Kosher grocery siege:

Those who committed these acts have nothing to do with the Muslim religion.

Yeah, right. I would use my standard line on these occasions – “Allahu Akbar” is Arabic for “Nothing to see here” – but it’s not quite as funny when the streets are full of cowards, phonies and opportunists waving candles and pencils and chanting “Je suis Charlie.” Because if you really were Charlie, if you really were one of the 17 Frenchmen and women slaughtered in the name of Allah in little more than 48 hours, you’d utterly despise a man who could stand up in public and utter those words.”

Charlie Hebdo: Fresh Shootings Near Paris, Hostages Taken In Manhunt, Reports Say

” Two suspects in Charlie Hebdo killing have been identified in French town of Dammartin-en-Goele, north of Paris. There are reports of shooting and hostages taken in.

A French security official said two suspects in the storming of satirical French newspaper Charlie Hebdo that left 12 people dead have stolen a car and are on the move again.

The two, brothers with al-Qaida sympathies, stole a Peugeot on Friday morning in the town of Montagny Sainte Felicite, about 50 kilometers (30 miles) northeast of Paris. Shots were fired.

Thousands of French security forces have mobilized to find the brothers after the attack on the Charlie Hebdo offices on Wednesday.

Investigators were scrutinizing the recent past of two brothers with al-Qaida sympathies and a place on the US no-fly list as a manhunt for the suspects in the newsroom massacre at a satirical French weekly entered its third day Friday.

Police SWAT teams swarmed a region north of Paris, fearing a second strike by the suspects, who are described in a nationwide notice as “armed and dangerous.”

One brother was convicted of terrorism charges in 2008, and survivors of the bloody assault on Charlie Hebdo said the attackers claimed allegiance to al-Qaida in Yemen. The weekly newspaper had been repeatedly threatened – and its offices were firebombed in 2011 – after spoofing Islam and depicting the Prophet Muhammad in caricature.

Heavily armed security forces with air cover moved along country roads and among old stone buildings. The country’s maximum terror alert was extended from Paris to the northern Picardie region, focusing on towns that might be safe havens for Cherif Kouachi, 32, and Said Kouachi, 34.”

Unsurprisingly it has come to light that these brothers are well known to police and are actually on the US “no-fly” list while one has already been convicted of terrorism and the other has recently traveled to Yemen … Political correctness kills …

” A senior US official said on Thursday the elder Kouachi had traveled to Yemen, although it was unclear whether he was there to join extremist groups like al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula, which is based there.

The younger brother, Cherif, was convicted of terrorism charges in 2008 for his links to a network sending jihadis to fight American forces in Iraq.

Both were also on the US no-fly list, a senior US counterterrorism official said. The American officials also spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss foreign intelligence publicly.

French President Francois Hollande called for tolerance after the country’s worst terrorist attack in decades.”

By all means Hollande , tolerance will save the day … I would say that your over-emphasis on “tolerance” is what brought on the deaths of twelve of the citizens your are sworn to protect .

Two Brothers Named In Paris Charlie Hebdo Terror Attack Team As Police Raid Reims, Paris Apartments

” The two armed gunmen in hiding after the Paris magazine terror attack are reportedly “located” in north France, as the country reels from losing 12 people in their brutal slaughter.

The manager of a petrol station near Villers-Cotteret in the northern Aisne region “recognised the two men suspected of having participated in the attack against Charlie Hebdo”, a source close to the investigation said.

The latest reports on their location comes after Parisians paused with the world to remember the victims of the terror attack tonight during a minute’s silence.

It also comes as a female police officer died in a second shootout and a street sweeper was gravely wounded at the southern edge of Paris.

The second incident raised tensions a day after the gunmen stormed the offices of Charlies Hebdo.

French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve cautioned against jumping to any conclusions about the second shooting, which has not been linked to the assault on the newspaper Charlie Hebdo, which left two police officers among the dead.

In the second shooting, he said the officer had stopped to investigate a traffic accident when the firing started. Paris police said the second victim was a street sweeper.”

12 Dead In Attack On Paris Newspaper; France Goes On Alert

Masked gunmen stormed the Paris offices of a satirical newspaper Wednesday, killing 12 people before escaping, in France’s deadliest terror attack in at least two decades.

” France raised its alert to the highest level, and reinforced security at houses of worship, stores, media offices and transportation. Top government officials were holding an emergency meeting.

The extremist Islamic State group has threatened to attack France, and minutes before the attack Charlie Hebdo had tweeted a satirical cartoon of that extremist group’s leader giving New Year’s wishes. Charlie Hebdo has been repeatedly threatened for publishing caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad, among other controversial sketches, and its offices were firebombed in 2011.”

Voting for Palestinian statehood didn’t buy much goodwill for the French now , did it ?  But then again , appeasement has a proven track record of failure .

The First Photograph Of A Human Being

” This picture, the earliest known photograph to include a recognizable human form, was taken in Paris, France, in 1838 by Louis Daguerre. The human in question is standing in the bottom-left of the photograph, on the pavement by the curve in the road.  He is having his boots shined.

The exposure time for the image was around seven minutes, and although the street would have been busy with traffic and pedestrians, it appears deserted. Everything moving was too fast to register on the plate.

The exception is the man at the lower-left who sat still long enough to appear in the photograph. The person cleaning his boots is also visible, although not as distinctly.

It has been speculated that instead of a shoeshine boy, the man stood at a a pump. However, comparison with another image taken by Daguerre of the same spot at noon reveals boxes used to hold brushes and polishes.

Like every Daguerreotype — the first publicly announced photographic process, and named after Daguerre — the photograph was a mirror image.  Here is the image reversed back to show the view as Daguerre saw it: “

IMF Chief Charged With ‘Negligence’ Over Graft Case

” IMF chief Christine Lagarde, one of the world’s most powerful women, announced Wednesday she had been charged with “negligence” over a multi-million-euro graft case relating to her time as French finance minister.

The shock announcement came a day after she was grilled for more than 15 hours by a special court in Paris that probes ministerial misconduct, the fourth time she has been questioned in a case that has long weighed upon her position as managing director of the International Monetary Fund.”

Drunk British Businessman Died After Falling Into French Moat While Urinating

https://i2.wp.com/traveltoeat.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/wpid-Photo-Jun-16-2013-442-AM.jpg

” A British man died after plunging 10ft into a moat after taking a leak in Paris, an inquest heard.

Simon Bartlett, who worked for a firm of architectural engineers, stopped to urinate during some late-night sight-seeing when he fell to his death.

After finishing dinner with colleagues Mr Bartlett visited Les Invalides, a historic complex of Army museums, in the early hours of June 28 last year.

Detective Constable Christopher Dinenage told the Portsmouth inquest that the 49-year-old father-of-three was found lying face down at the bottom of the dry moat surrounding the building with his trousers undone.

Mr Dinenage said that French police had viewed CCTV footage which showed Mr Bartlett had been unsteady on his feet and they had concluded he had fallen while stopping to urinate into the moat.”

Police: French Soldier Stabbed In Neck While On Patrol

” A French soldier who was stabbed Saturday on the western outskirts of Paris was targeted because of his military service, France’s defense minister said.

“The aim was to kill the soldier because he was a soldier,” Defense Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian told CNN affiliate BFMTV. The attacker wanted “to kill a soldier who is in charge of French security,” he said.

The soldier was stabbed in the neck from behind with either a knife or a box cutter, a Hauts-de-Seine police spokesman said.

The attacker was wearing a robe and appeared to be North African, said Laurent Lefebvre, a spokesman for Syndicat Alliance Police Nationale, a French police union.”

How Much Did It Cost To Send VPOTUS Biden To Paris For A Day?

” The U.S. Department of State spent $585,000 on hotel rooms and racked up $322,000 on intra-country transporation costs for Vice President Joe Biden’s recent trip to Paris, according to contracting documents that U.S. Trade & Aid Monitor located through routine database research.

Despite the availability of contracting awards granted to Hotel Intercontinental Paris Le Grand and Biribin Limousines, respectively, no other procurement documents currently are available. Consequently, it remains unknown just how much State spent on Biden’s European mission, which also included stops in Berlin and London.”

The black hole in this compact pairing discovered by the European Space Agency’s XMM-Newton space telescope is at least three times more massive than the Sun while its red dwarf companion star has a mass only 20 percent that of the Sun, and the pair is separated by only around 600,00 miles, a release from ESA’s Paris headquarters reported Tuesday.”
