What Instagram, Twitter, and Jelly Indicate About The Future Of Ello

” Two weeks ago almost no one had heard of Ello. But that was two weeks ago. September 24th, BetaBeat referred to Ello as the mysterious social network. September 25th, TechCrunch declared that Ello was blowing up. September 26th, The Daily Beast said the service’s problems far outweigh the benefits. September 28th, Ello experienced its first DDoS attack. September 29th, The Washington Post called Ello hopelessly, irredeemably naive.

We were curious how much truth lay in all the hype. But other than claims that Ello was adding 3,000-4,000 new users per hour , there wasn’t much data about the rising star. So we decided to get our own. To conduct this research, we pulled Ello directly from the site — all post, follower, and following data is publicly available to all users — and collected a sample size of nearly 160,000 Ello users. Next, we loaded the raw data into RJMetrics for analysis. “

Popularity Of ‘Don’t Tread On Me’ Plates In Virginia Suggests Tea Party Still Strong

” A Virginia license plate with the Tea Party-embraced “Don’t Tread on Me” logo is a big seller, suggesting the movement remains popular, at least in the state, even after a tough loss in this year’s gubernatorial election.

At least five other states also sell the specialty plates: Arizona, Missouri, Oklahoma, South Carolina and Texas. But in Virginia, the tag ranks No. 2 among such plates approved in the past five years and ninth among more than 200 total.

The tag was issued to roughly 21,800 Virginia-registered vehicles in just the first 20 months of sales, according to state figures reported by The Virginian-Pilot newspaper.

The sales figures for the “Don’t Tread on Me” plates indicate more than just Tea Party members are buying them, which Dwyer suggests is an indication the movement’s mantra of less-government and no new taxes resonates with many Americans.”

Why Is Hillary Clinton’s Popularity Sliding?

” Hillary Clinton left the State Department with a sky-high approval rating. With her broad appeal and presumed White House ambitions, the conventional wisdom, supported by early polls, suggested she would roll to the Democratic nomination in 2016 and then trounce whomever Republicans trotted out to face her.

Yet less than a year removed from her old job, Clinton’s popularity has fallen from its once-lofty heights, according to an NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll out this week.

In the poll, 46 percent of adults expressed a favorable opinion of Clinton, while 33 percent viewed her unfavorably. That’s not too shabby — Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) came in with a 17/43 favorable to unfavorable split — but it’s well down from January, when 56 percent liked Clinton versus 25 percent who did not.

All told, that means Clinton’s net favorability had fallen an astounding 18 points since the start of the year.”

One-Time ‘Superstar’ Obama Returns To Berlin As A Mere President

Yes_We_Scan

” President Barack Obama may still have the kind of popularity ratings that any politician would envy, but some Germans say the president’s ‘superstar’ status has been slightly tarnished.

His arrival last night in Berlin on a 24-hour trip culminates in a speech at the city’s iconic Brandenburg Gate.

Last time he was in Berlin, in 2008 as a presidential candidate, expectations were high.

But Obama is now well into his second term and German critics claim he has failed to deliver.

Most recently, an issue to rile a country which holds individual privacy dear is the PRISM programme scandal which has revealed that Obama has expanded Bush-era surveillance of phone calls and emails. Chancellor Angela Merkel had promised to raise the subject when they meet for private talks.

At a news conference after the meeting Obama said he was confident that the US has struck an appropriate balance between intelligence gathering and civil liberties.

Obama’s escalation of drone warfare has also provoked protests in Berlin.”

Election Bump Over, Obama Approval drops To 43 Percent: Reuters/IPSOS Poll

” Less than two months into his second term, President Barack Obama’s approval rating has dropped and Americans blame him and his fellow Democrats almost as much as his Republican opponents for a fiscal mess.

A Reuters/Ipsos online poll released on Wednesday showed 43 percent of people approve of Obama’s handling of his job, down 7 percentage points from February 19.

Most of that steep drop came in the week to February 26 when it was becoming clear that Washingtonwas going to be unable to put aside partisan differences and agree to halt automatic budget cuts which started last Friday.

Confounding the White House’s efforts to blame Republicans for the cuts, most respondents in the online survey hold both Democrats and Republicans responsible.”

Change We Can Believe In

WaPo/ABC poll: Obama’s favorable rating now underwater — including with women

” B-b-b-but Madeleine Albright says she can’t understand why any woman would vote for Mitt Romney.

Seriously, guys, I want to believe. I do. But … I don’t.

Yet.

Just 47 percent of registered voters in the latest ABC News/Washington Post poll see Obama favorably overall, down 7 percentage points from his recent peak in April, while 49 percent rate him unfavorably. He’s numerically underwater in this group for the first time since February.”
