” Everybody should own a .22 pistol.  They are incredibly valuable as a training tool, can be used to shoot competitively and can bag small game for dinner.  Add to the mix that they are just plain fun to shoot, and you’ve got a winner of a platform.  But the question becomes what is the best .22 pistol?

While there is no single best pistol for every person and situation, there are several exceptionally good guns on the market.  This is a look at currently produced .22 LR pistols, and not a look at every rimfire handgun ever made.  If I expanded the scope of the article to that level, I would have to include pistols like the old Hi Standard and Colt Woodsman.  Likewise, there are some exceptional revolver and .22 Magnum options on the market.

In no particular order, here are some of the best 22 pistols currently being sold. “

A “New” Sport Arrives In Underground Suburbia

” Some like the open sea. Some like fishing the flats.

Not everyone — some like fishing under the manhole covers. And no, it’s not C.H.U.D. that’s biting the hook. Anything from bass to catfish has been pulled up on these Youtube videos.

Sewer fishing in the suburbs might be considered a new trend, although, there are quite a few comments on the web that say otherwise. Whether it’s a new trend or a reinvention, fishing in the gutter is catching on.

For the Win reported that according to Kyle Naegeli, a 15-year-old Texas resident who believes he is the pioneer of sewer fishing, to sewer fish you need some line, some bait and some patience.”

Ten Tips To Make Docking Easy And Safe

” Docking a boat can be a dreaded task for any boater. No matter the size of the boat, the current or the wind, it’s close-quarters maneuvering that takes the most gelcoat from boats. But it doesn’t have to be that way if you follow these simple rules.

1. Never approach a dock any faster than you want to hit it. Some captains like to hot-dog around, showing how efficiently they can shift and throttle, but even the best of them can be tripped up — either by misjudging distance, drift and vector, or by stalling their engines at shifting points, rendering the boat a helpless victim of its undirected momentum. A slow, steady approach is the sign of an experienced, steady skipper.

2. Never approach a docking situation without a plan. Perfect planning makes for perfect performance. It’s as simple as that.”

” The U.S. Coast Guard is asking all boat owners and operators to help reduce fatalities, injuries, property damage, and associated healthcare costs related to recreational boating accidents by taking personal responsibility for their own safety and the safety of their passengers. Essential steps include: wearing a life jacket at all times and requiring passengers to do the same; never boating under the influence (BUI); successfully completing a boating safety course; and getting a Vessel Safety Check (VSC) annually from local U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, United States Power Squadrons(r), or your state boating agency’s Vessel Examiners. The U.S. Coast Guard reminds all boaters to “Boat Responsibly!” For more tips on boating safety, visit www.uscgboating.org. “

… In His Own Yard

” A suspended seventh-grade student in Virginia Beach, Va., could be expelled for the rest of the school year for shooting an airsoft gun with a friend in his yard as they waited for the bus to come.

Khalid Caraballo, 12, and his friend, Aidan, were suspended for “possession, handling and use of a firearm” because they “shot two other friends who were with them while playing” with the airsoft guns, WAVY-TV reported.

“We were in our yard. This had nothing to do with school,” the student said.”

It Is Consumer Demand That Keeps Supplies Of Ammo Nationwide Low

” The NRA is regularly inundated with letters from members requesting an explanation of the nationwide ammo shortage. Some folks merely vent their frustration over the amount of ammo they are able to acquire for range sessions. Some complain about the jump in prices; they insist it can’t all be explained by supply and demand. Others are sure the government is buying up all the ammo so average Americans can’t get their hands on it. Everyone wants to know if we have any inside information.

Whatever you believe to be the cause for the shortage, the fact is ammo continues to be difficult to find. Store shelves are empty. If you’re lucky enough to find a few boxes, chances are either you or the person behind you in line will buy all that either of you can carry and stash it away like Private Pyle hides a jelly doughnut. So, is this the future of ammunition, or is there an end to the madness? I did my homework, and while my conclusions may not be the answers you’re looking for, they are at least based on fact.

Government Purchases
Let’s start at the rumor mill. The Internet is awash with reports of large acquisitions of ammunition by government agencies, and the pot-stirrers ran with it: They insist “the government took it all.” “

5 Big Game Rifle Rounds… For Beginners (Videos)

.30-30 Win

” Though in our minds big game season seems so close that we can taste it, the truth is there is still ample time for would-be sportsmen to dust off their deer rifles and get into the hunt so to speak. This invitation is especially directed towards the younger or beginning hunters, who I’m sure are filled with hunting questions, the most obvious being, what caliber rifle do I get?

While hard, long and flat rounds like the .30-06 and .308 appear to dominate the North American hunting rifle scene and even the popular .223 is making a name for itself as a surprisingly capable deer round, these cartridges are not really the best choice for someone who has never stalked whitetails before, let alone shot a gun. So what do you get the fledgling deer hunter who is looking for a rifle to start off with? A caliber that will get the job done with ‘minute of deer’ accuracy but also won’t send the shooter running back to the cabin with a sore shoulder once the gun goes off.

Well, there are actually quite a few choices out there with such a proven history:”

Great White Scares Spear Fisherman

SA Spearfish

“In an area known as Pinnacles, south of Thunderbolt (which is on the
wildside), what started as a fishing trip for a coupla yellowtail
quickly turned into a heart-stopping moment for the guys.

Eugene had just speared two nice yellowtail, and then noticed that there
were no ragged tooth sharks around. Something which is unusual for this
area. He started was thinking “wonder why, maybe a big white around?”
And as the saying goes, careful what you wish for.

Minutes later after surfacing from his dive, a great white passed right
underneath him. A big female at least 5m long. She turned and came in
very close, on then on her second approach Eugene had to push her away
with his speargun! And get his legs out the way pretty pronto.

Whilst this was all happening Kyle had hightailed it the 30m swim back
to the boat, jumped in, cut the anchor line and then reversed the boat
back towards Eugene. Once they were both safely in the boat, the shark
still circled them another 3 times.”

How To Introduce New Shooters To Guns

“Introducing new shooters to the act of actually firing a gun. Bringing new people into the world of firearms, shooting and gun ownership is one of the most important things you can do to help preserve your Second Amendment rights.”

7 Rifles Enter ‘The Ugly Gun’ Club

” If you want to get technical about it, a rifle is just about any shoulder fired long arm used to hit targets accurately at long distances. Nothing in there says anything about being easy on the eyes and indeed never once did aesthetics alone make one shooter better than another. But it does hurt sales, and with that in mind, we take a look at a number of rifles that no one ever would consider gun porn.”

6.  SIG 510

” The Swiss have a firearms legacy that nobody really wants to poke a stick at. After all, they haven’t had to kick out an invader in 500 years even though they were geographically in the middle of both World Wars. But, have you ever looked at the SIG 510? Known in Alps as the Sturmgewehr 57, it was Switzerland’s main battle rifle for most of the Cold War. When most of the world still used wooden stocks, the Swiss went with rubber coated fore and buttstocks that were ribbed for your shooting pleasure. A very long rifle, it tipped the scales at nearly 13-pounds. Still, despite looking like stretched out taffy it shoots like a laser.”

Yes or no – would you sleep beneath the sea in an underwater hotel?

” What could be more inviting than indulging oneself underwater – drinking fine wine, enjoying haute cuisine or simply relaxing in the lap of luxury – while fish swim past and air bubbles float serenely to the surface? Short of restaurants, bars and hotels ensconced on the surface of the moon, entertainment spaces don’t come much more breathtaking. The magic of architectural brilliance and design ingenuity are certainly on the menu for anyone lucky enough to patronize one of these places. Here are seven spaces where vistas of submarine environments open up before the eyes of visitors in the ocean’s depths.”

The AR-15 Is More Than A Gun. It’s A Gadget

” In the past two decades, the AR-15 has evolved into an open, modular gun platform that’s infinitely hackable and accessorizable. With only a few simple tools and no gunsmithing expertise, an AR-15 can be heavily modified, or even assembled from scratch, from widely available parts to suit the fancy and fantasy of each individual user. In this respect, the AR-15 is the world’s first “maker” gun, and this is why its appeal extends well beyond the military enthusiasts that many anti-gun types presume make up its core demographic.”

” This is the gun-as-gadget, a relatively new consumer phenomenon born from the unholy union of the post-9/11 national security state and America’s decades-old obsession with hackable, high-performance hardware. From muscle cars to motorbikes to ultra-high-wattage stereo systems, Americans love to take their toys way over the top, and for all its deadliness and terrifying power, the AR-15 is a terrifically fun toy. “‘

Jetpack Rocket Science

” Jetpacking was awesome fun! Despite the fat lip I had a great time. I think knowing a bit about physics actually helps fly the jetpack. It works on the same principle as a rocket (Newton’s 3rd law) but unlike the shuttle, you don’t carry your own propellant with you. Instead, water is pumped out of the lake by the jetski at up to 60 litres a second. It is then fired out of the nozzles at around 15 m/s creating 1800 N of force, the equivalent of about 150 fire extinguishers. On me this can produce acceleration of about 1.5g’s “

CNN Article Admits Gun Accidents Among Children Are Literally 1 In A Million

” CNN ran an article on the front page of its website today in which the topic of parents asking about guns prior to playdates and sleepovers.

The article said more parents are asking the question about gun ownership and storage before letting children go to a friend’s home.

What is surprising is that CNN actually admitted the following in the article.

Despite incidents such as the recent death of a 6-year-old New Jersey boy shot in the head by a 4-year-old playmate, as well as the accidental shooting of a Tennessee sheriff’s deputy’s wife by a 4-year-old boy, accidental firearms deaths are rare among children.

According to the CDC’s National Center for Injury Prevention and Control, 703 children under the age of 15 died in accidental firearms deaths between 2001 and 2010, the latest year for which the agency’s statistics on fatalities are available. During the same period, 7,766 children under the age of 14 suffered accidental firearms injuries — about one injury for every million children.

Injuries (note, that is injuries, not deaths) occur at a rate of around 1 in 1,000,000.”

How Five Skippers Pulled Off Major Tourney Wins

” What does it take to win a fishing tournament? Perhaps a better question is, what doesn’t it take? The dirty little secret about tournament fishing is that winning requires a lot of everything. While intense preparation usually figures as a major component of any successful team, that doesn’t preclude plain dumb luck as accounting for a winner’s check. Similarly, playing it safe on the water is often the key to success — but then again, the risk-taker is sometimes the one who prevails in the end. And that’s the beauty of tournament fishing: You never know what lies in wait.

Here are a few thoughts from some recent winners of big events and their accounts of just how they did it.”

High End Cars Need Luxury Garages 21 Pictures

” When a car looks as good as these, chances are you also want the garage to look the part. Most of these cars are worth more then a large-sized home for an average person. Take a look at how these high end cars get stored.

If the cars are worth this much, it makes one wonder, how much one of these garages costs to engineer and build?”

Eagle Scout to BSA: Are You Nuts?

” As a 14 year-old, and a freshly-minted Eagle Scout, I had a terrible crush on my 11 year-old cousin Mary, and she on me.

So intense was my desire just to reach out and touch her that it kept me awake at night.  That is the way 14 year-old boys are.  As it happens, a variety of restraints, some internal, many external, kept me from doing so, but I can still remember the frustrated passion of it all.

I suspect that 14 year-old boys who are attracted to other boys feel that passion just as intensely.  If the leadership of the Boy Scouts of America has its way, though, these boys will be able to indulge their passions in ways I could not even have dreamed of.  They will get to shower with their 11 year-old crushes, skinny-dip with them, maybe even share a two-man pup tent.  Even though I was more self-disciplined at 14 than most, these are temptations I could never have resisted.

Those parents who would willingly expose their 11 year-old sons to these scenarios are flirting with criminality.”
