DC Gun Carry Ban On The Line In Supreme Court Drake Case

” Washington, D.C. has never allowed residents to carry guns outside the home in modern history, but that may be about to change. The Supreme Court is primed to take on the controversial issue of what, if any, limits are allowed to the Second Amendment right to bear arms in the Drake v. Jerejian case.

On Monday, the court could announce whether it will hear the petition of John Drake, an ATM owner who carries large amounts of cash but was denied a carry permit by New Jersey because it does not consider self-defense a “justifiable need.”

The case challenges whether the seven “may issue” states can force citizens to show a special need to carry a firearm for self-defense. The District of Columbia denies all carry rights. If the court overturns Drake, it would force the nation’s capital to come up with some procedure for residents to legally take their guns outside the home.”

HIGH COURT REJECTS CHALLENGE TO NY GUN LAW

” The Supreme Court is staying out of the gun debate for now.

The justices on Monday declined to hear a challenge to a strict New York law that makes it difficult for residents to get a license to carry a concealed handgun in public.

The court did not comment in turning away an appeal from five state residents and the Second Amendment Foundation. Their lawsuit also drew support from the National Rifle Association and 20 states.”

GUN RIGHTS AND THE REBIRTH OF CONSERVATISM

” Now, just three short years later, a grassroots movement has been awakened again. But this time it’s not the Tea Party reacting to healthcare. Rather, it is a collection of the approx. 80 million gun owning Americans reacting to the federal government’s insistence on taking guns away.

It is the more than four million NRA members, and the hundreds upon hundreds of thousands of members of the Second Amendment Foundation and Gun Owners of America.

This movement is broad–encompassing Republicans for sure, but also Democrats, Independents, and Progressives like “Warren” who called into the Wilkow Majority on March 5 to talk about how sacrosanct guns are in this country. He talked of how his support for much of the progressive agenda does not include support for more gun control.”

Rights ? What Rights ?

Good for SAF , good for US . This kind of bureaucratic nonsense has to stop . Support the Gun Rights organization of your choice . Please , even if you don’t own a gun . No organizations work harder at preserving our freedom and liberties than the 2nd amendment groups . If the 2nd goes the 1st is sure to follow .

” Last month, the Second Amendment Foundation filed a suit in federal court against the police departments of San Francisco and Oakland. The suit was over the police departments’ refusal to return firearms confiscated from individuals during the course of investigations in which those individuals were later cleared of wrongdoing.

The filing, which came just days before the similar story of wounded Afghan war veteran Lt. Augustine Kim surfaced, where, after stop for a medical appointment at Walter Reed during a trip from New Jersey to South Carolina, Kim was arrested and his firearms confiscated by DC police.”
