Thanks To Bureaucracy, 91-Year-Old Man Who Shot Home Invader Can’t Get His Guns Back

” Jay Leone is a 91-year-old World War II veteran and former member of the sheriff’s air patrol who used his guns to level the playing field when Samuel Joseph Cutrufelli, a 30-year-old career criminal and meth user, broke into his house. Now that the trial is over, and Cutrufelli has been sentenced to 86 years in prison, Leone wants his guns back – but the Marin County authorities are dragging their feet.

Leone has been without his weapons for a year now. In early January 2012, Cutrufelli broke into Leone’s home, detained him at gunpoint, tied up his hands, and went looking for valuables. Leone managed to grab one of several valuable guns he owned. When Cutrufelli saw this, he shot Leone in the face. Leone, in turn, got off three shots, hitting Cutrufelli, who then fled. Both Leone and Cutrufelli called 911, with Leone reporting the burglary and Cutrufelli claiming he’d shot himself.”
