Women Who Love Fishing, Tackle and Boats

Meet Christina …

” Christina tapped the plentiful offshore waters of Marathon, Florida Keys, to haul in this dolphin. Even though Key Largo, Islamorada, Marathon and Key West tend to be the most popular fishing destinations, don’t forget about the Forgotten Keys in the lower Keys, including Big Pine Key. These less-pressured keys offer exceptional fishing both inshore and offshore. “

And this here is Catherine …

” Catherine, a University of Georgia gymnast, went fishing in Key West and landed this permit. Key West Harbor is one of the most dependable spots to catch permit, especially during the spring. This fishery is a great option for those who lack the time or patience to pursue these fish on the flats. “

25 Great Center-Console Boats Over 30 Feet

” This is the age of the super-sized center console. Based on big, beamy hulls and boasting plenty of power – usually in the form of multiple V-6 or V-8 outboards – these offshore fishing machines are suitable for a wide range of angling pursuits – from sailfish to swordfish, kingfish to cobia, tuna to tarpon and more.

What defines a big center-console fishing boat? We think 30-something-plus feet LOA (length overall) serves as the benchmark, though today you’ll certainly find multiple boats over 40 feet in this genre. And there are some spectacular models – not just because of their size, but also because of their great designs, features and style.

We’ve scoured the market to find today’s top models, great center-console boats that have earned the respect of serious offshore anglers. So if you are looking for a new blue-water boat, start your search here with 25 Great Center-Console Boats Over 30 Feet. (Listed alphabetically by manufacturer.)

Check out our other galleries on great saltwater fishing boats, including 25 of the Top Inshore Center Consoles, 25 of the Decade’s Top Boats, and 25 Dream Boats. “

” The EdgeWater 318CC continues to be a favorite among saltwater anglers. This center-console boat’s 10-foot, 2-inch beam offers plenty of fishing space for you and your crew without feeling crowded. The unsinkable design of EdgeWater’s SPI (Single Piece Infusion) all-composite construction enables a safer, stronger and well-performing hull.

The outboard-powered 318CC features a 28-gallon livewell and two fish lockers – one forward and one aft that can double as a livewell. It also offers tackle storage in the leaning post and rod holders aplenty. Rated for 700 hp and boasting 300-gallon fuel capacity, the 318CC has the power and range to fish far offshore and return you safely.”

Ten Tips To Make Docking Easy And Safe

” Docking a boat can be a dreaded task for any boater. No matter the size of the boat, the current or the wind, it’s close-quarters maneuvering that takes the most gelcoat from boats. But it doesn’t have to be that way if you follow these simple rules.

1. Never approach a dock any faster than you want to hit it. Some captains like to hot-dog around, showing how efficiently they can shift and throttle, but even the best of them can be tripped up — either by misjudging distance, drift and vector, or by stalling their engines at shifting points, rendering the boat a helpless victim of its undirected momentum. A slow, steady approach is the sign of an experienced, steady skipper.

2. Never approach a docking situation without a plan. Perfect planning makes for perfect performance. It’s as simple as that.”

” The U.S. Coast Guard is asking all boat owners and operators to help reduce fatalities, injuries, property damage, and associated healthcare costs related to recreational boating accidents by taking personal responsibility for their own safety and the safety of their passengers. Essential steps include: wearing a life jacket at all times and requiring passengers to do the same; never boating under the influence (BUI); successfully completing a boating safety course; and getting a Vessel Safety Check (VSC) annually from local U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, United States Power Squadrons(r), or your state boating agency’s Vessel Examiners. The U.S. Coast Guard reminds all boaters to “Boat Responsibly!” For more tips on boating safety, visit www.uscgboating.org. “

Best of the Boat Show

Scenes from the 2012 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show

” We got a chance to shoot down to the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show last week. In the beginning Hurricane Sandy blew us around a bit but it wasn’t too overwhelming. We managed to sneak out and grab a few pictures of the sport fishing outboard boats. Most of the outboards could be found inside the convention center and a few at the docks of the Bahia Mar.”

Video: 600-Pound Black Marlin Leaps Into Cockpit, Injures Two

” It’s hard to imagine fishing more exciting than fighting a 600-pound black marlin while backing down hard into the rugged seas off Cairns, Australia. But for the crew of the Little Audrey, things got crazy quickly when that behemoth tried to join them in the cockpit and, for a few frightening moments, succeeded — long enough to tear up some of the boat while, amazingly, causing only minor injuries. The fish was released soon after. Watch the chaos unfold in this great video. with footage from several different cameras,  first appearing on the site of our friends Down Under, Fishing World. ”
