Meet The New Serfs: You

” The New Haven SWAT team must have been pretty amped up: It was midnight, and they were getting ready to bust down the door of a man wanted on charges involving weapons violations, robbery — and murder. They were not sure how many people were in the house, or how they’d react. After a volley of flash grenades that set fire to the carpet and a sofa, they moved in, guns drawn. A minute later, they had their man zip-tied on the floor.

If only they’d double-checked the address first.

Bobby Griffin Jr. was wanted on murder charges. His next-door neighbor on Peck Street, Joseph Adams, wasn’t. But that didn’t stop the SWAT team from knocking down his door, setting his home on fire, roughing him up, keeping him tied up in his underwear for nearly three hours, and treating the New Haven man, who is gay, to a nance show as officers taunted him with flamboyantly effeminate mannerisms. If the events detailed in Mr. Adams’s recently filed lawsuit are even remotely accurate, the episode was a moral violation and, arguably, a crime.

And when Mr. Adams showed up at the New Haven police department the next day to fill out paperwork requesting that the authorities reimburse him for the wanton destruction of his property — never mind the gross violation of his rights — the story turned Kafkaesque, as interactions with American government agencies at all levels tend to do. The police — who that same night had managed to take in the murder suspect next door without the use of flash grenades or other theatrics after his mother suggested that they were probably there for her son — denied having any record of the incident at Mr. Adams’s home ever having happened.

This sort of thing happens with disturbing regularity. The New York Police Department killed an older woman in Harlem when they mistakenly raided her home in 2003. In that case, too, “flash-bang” grenades were deployed, and the concussions sent 57-year-old Alberta Spruiell into cardiac arrest, killing her. The NYPD was acting on information given to them by a local lowlife drug dealer they were leaning on. It was the first information he’d given them as an informant, and based on nothing more than that they went in hard — no-knock raid, grenades, the whole circus. As it turns out, New York dope-slingers turned rat are not entirely trustworthy. “

Commentary From John Whitehead At The Rutherford Institute

” By John W. Whitehead
June 16, 2014

A standing military force, with an overgrown Executive will not long be safe companions to liberty.”—James Madison

“ Here [in New Mexico], we are moving more toward a national police force. Homeland Security is involved with a lot of little things around town. Somebody in Washington needs to call a timeout.”—Dan Klein, retired Albuquerque Police Department sergeant.

If the United States is a police state, then the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is its national police force, with all the brutality, ineptitude and corruption such a role implies. In fact, although the DHS’ governmental bureaucracy may at times appear to be inept and bungling, it is ruthlessly efficient when it comes to building what the Founders feared most—a standing army on American soil.

The third largest federal agency behind the Departments of Veterans Affairs and Defense, the DHS—with its 240,000 full-time workers, $61 billion budget and sub-agencies that include the Coast Guard, Customs and Border Protection, Secret Service, Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)—has been aptly dubbed a “runaway train.”

In the 12 years since it was established to “prevent terrorist attacks within the United States,” the DHS has grown from a post-9/11 knee-jerk reaction to a leviathan with tentacles in every aspect of American life. With good reason, a bipartisan bill to provide greater oversight and accountability into the DHS’ purchasing process has been making its way through Congress.

A better plan would be to abolish the DHS altogether. In making the case for shutting down the de facto national police agency, analyst Charles Kenny offers the following six reasons: one, the agency lacks leadership; two, terrorism is far less of a threat than it is made out to be; three, the FBI has actually stopped more alleged terrorist attacks than DHS; four, the agency wastes exorbitant amounts of money with little to show for it; five, “An overweight DHS gets a free pass to infringe civil liberties without a shred of economic justification”; and six, the agency is just plain bloated.

To Kenny’s list, I will add the following: The menace of a national police force, a.k.a. a standing army, vested with so much power cannot be overstated, nor can its danger be ignored. Indeed, as the following list shows, just about every nefarious deed, tactic or thuggish policy advanced by the government today can be traced back to the DHS, its police state mindset, and the billions of dollars it distributes to police agencies in the form of grants.

Militarizing police and SWAT teams. The DHS routinely hands out six-figure grants to enable local municipalities to purchase military-style vehicles, as well as a veritable war chest of weaponry, ranging from tactical vests, bomb-disarming robots, assault weapons and combat uniforms. This rise in military equipment purchases funded by the DHS has, according to analysts Andrew Becker and G.W. Schulz, “paralleled an apparent increase in local SWAT teams.” The end result? An explosive growth in the use of SWAT teams for otherwise routine police matters, an increased tendency on the part of police to shoot first and ask questions later, and an overall mindset within police forces that they are at war—and the citizenry are the enemy combatants.”

Below are a list of other ways in which the State is busy eroding our Constitutional rights , all explored in greater depth at the Rutherford Institute .

” Spying on activists, dissidents and veterans.

Stockpiling ammunition.

Distributing license plate readers.

Contracting to build detention camps.

Tracking cell-phones with Stingray devices.

Carrying out military drills and lockdowns in American cities.

Using the TSA as an advance guard.

Conducting virtual strip searches with full-body scanners.

Carrying out soft target checkpoints.

Directing government workers to spy on Americans.

Conducting widespread spying networks using fusion centers.

Carrying out Constitution-free border control searches.

Funding city-wide surveillance cameras.

Utilizing drones and other spybots.

It’s not difficult to see why the DHS has been described as a “wasteful, growing, fear-mongering beast.” If it is a beast, however, it is a beast that is accelerating our nation’s transformation into a police state through its establishment of a standing army, a.k.a. national police force.

This, too, is nothing new. Historically, as I show in my book A Government of Wolves: The Emerging American Police State, the establishment of a national police force has served as a fundamental and final building block for every totalitarian regime that has ever wreaked havoc on humanity, from Hitler’s all-too-real Nazi Germany to George Orwell’s fictional Oceania. Whether fictional or historical, however, the calling cards of these national police agencies remain the same: brutality, inhumanity, corruption, intolerance, rigidity, and bureaucracy—in other words, evil. “

” I write often about the paramilitarization of American law enforcement, while always vaguely assuming it will never get too near my own corner of rural New Hampshire. But who knows? Reid Smith writes today about his particular hometown in Pennsylvania:

Haverford straddles the border between Delaware and Montgomery Counties, some ten miles west of Philadelphia. According to Wikipedia, it’s most notable for being home to the renowned Haverford College and the Merion Cricket Club. The former is best known for its intellectual rigor and Quaker antecedents; the latter for its beautiful grass tennis courts.

The local geography gets a little tricky, but a portion of the unincorporated town of Haverford is part of greater Haverford Township in Delaware County (affectionately known as “Delco”).

Today a friend sent me an article from a local webzine. This is the sort of digital publication that usually leads with headlines about “Cast-Iron Cookware Restoration with Apple Cider and Elbow Grease” and heartfelt features on do-gooding business leaders.

But not today. Instead The Haverford-Havertown Patch’s editor Alison Smith is enthusing over the local constabulary’s purchase of a 2014 Lenco “BearCat” ballistic-engineered, armored-response vehicle (see picture). Everyone’s happy. The County Council:

” As businesses continue to expand here in Delaware County, we are continually committed to making sure that our police have the ability to address new threats,” said Delaware County Council Chairman Thomas McGarrigle.

Who knew a thriving business community presented such a threat to the security environment? Hey, it’s not just businesses, it’s also the local grade-school:

” We now have the ability to protect our police officers as they approach homes, businesses and schools while taking direct fire,” said District Attorney Jack Whelan.

The SWAT ONE can “carry up to ten people, and has night-vision optics, a gas-injection system and a battering ram. It can withstand hits from a .50-caliber projectile”. Why would anyone buy anything so superfluous? Ah, well:

The vehicle, a 2014 Lenco “BearCat” ballistic-engineered, armored-response vehicle, was purchased with Homeland Security grants under FEMA’s Urban Area Security Initiative program.”

Oh, right. Maybe the Afghan war only makes sense if you look on it as a dry run for Pennsylvania… As Laura Rosen Cohen says:

“This is not a police force, it’s a bloody army and the guns are being turned against you.”

FBI Drops Law Enforcement As ‘Primary’ Mission

” The FBI’s creeping advance into the world of counterterrorism is nothing new. But quietly and without notice, the agency has finally decided to make it official in one of its organizational fact sheets. Instead of declaring “law enforcement” as its “primary function,” as it has for years, the FBI fact sheet now lists “national security” as its chief mission. The changes largely reflect the FBI reforms put in place after September 11, 2001, which some have criticized for de-prioritizing law enforcement activities. Regardless, with the 9/11 attacks more than a decade in the past, the timing of the edits is baffling some FBI-watchers.”

Just another Statist tool to be used in forcing mass compliance on the citizenry . At least we are now getting truth in labeling . With this self-admission the FBI becomes just another arm of the DHS-TSA police state . Now , instead of upholding the rule of law , the FBI can join the law-breaking ranks of the NSA in spying on Americans and preparing “enemies lists” … something it has long experience with .

Ukraine Protests: Outrage As Police Attack Kiev Barricades

” Thousands of riot police carried out a co-ordinated attack on barricades in Kiev during the dead of night on Wednesday – a determined and unexpected crackdown on protesters who have occupied the centre ofUkraine‘s capital for the past fortnight.

As temperatures fell to -13C (-55F) during the coldest night of the winter to date, columns of riot police closed in on Independence Square, hub of the protests that erupted after President Viktor Yanukovych pulled out of an association pact with the EU that had been due for signing at a summit in Vilnius last month. Shortly after 1am battalions of police approached the vast square from all sides and began to dismantle the makeshift barricades that have been erected in recent days.

Ukraine’s prime minister, Mykola Azarov, said later on Wednesday the operation by police was a question of clearing the roads. “No force will be applied against peaceful protesters. Do you understand this? Calm down!” he said as he opened a government meeting.

Police pulled out of the square on Wednesday morning, even as more protesters arrived. “

A road clearing operation ? Sure … once again we witness Statist violence in the name of “public safety” .

Taiwanese Government Introduces Terrifying Special Forces Clone Army

” Taiwanese Special Forces and a select few other military units recently received updated bulletproof armor that includes a ballistic face mask that serves to protect operators from lethal headshots and to reduce fighting effectiveness of opposing forces, seemingly by causing them to immediately curl into the fetal position and cry for their mothers. Check out one of the scariest-looking armies ever after the jump.”

An Update On Obama’s Personal Army…

” Because the American military swears an allegiance to the U.S. Constitution, and not to the President, could Obama’s strategy be to strip our Armed Services and shift their dollars into an all powerful civilian Army under his command?  Two tips coming into CiR this week surprisingly connect just these dots and link these machinations to Obamacare funding.

An article from the Marine Corps Times this week states: “The Marine Corps faces a difficult period of transition that will include shedding thousands of personnel per year, sharpening its role as a crisis-response force. . .”  This means our U.S. Marine Corps is being cut by 8,000 personnel fewer “than previously planned, and 12,800 fewer than the 186,800 end strength” recommended by senior Marine analysts!  This severe reduction in the Marine Corps force is the “minimum acceptable force” according to the warning given Congress by Commandant Gen. Jim Amos.  “Eleven combat arms battalions and 14 aviation squadrons will be cut,” he added.  This very important article, sent to CiR, details a severe force reduction in “Manpower and Force Structure,” plus procurements and even Aviation.  As many as 25,000 airmen and 550 planes “would go if sequester continues.”  But how come sequester isn’t affecting Obama’s Army?

A long time FEMA source cites this sentence in the Obama Army speech:  “We cannot continue to rely only on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we’ve set.”  This tipster told CiR that when Obama took office, older, long time FEMA employees and/or individual assistance personnel were in the process of being replaced by “18 to 24 year olds who knew next to nothing” about homeland security or emergency response.  These young people and FEMA operations were pulled into Washington, D.C. under the executive branch’s prerogative.”

Lyons: Police Raid Felt Like Home Invasion

” After leaving her operating room scrub nurse duties at Sarasota’s Doctors Hospital on Wednesday, Louise Goldsberry went to her Hidden Lake Village apartment.

Her boyfriend came over, and after dinner — about 8 p.m. — Goldsberry went to her kitchen sink to wash some dishes.

That’s when her boyfriend, Craig Dorris — a manager for a security alarm company — heard her scream and saw her drop to the floor.

Goldsberry, 59, said she had looked up from the sink to see a man “wearing a hunting vest.”

He was aiming a gun at her face, with a red light pinpointing her.

“I screamed and screamed,” she said.

But she also scrambled across the floor to her bedroom and grabbed her gun, a five-shot .38-caliber revolver. Goldsberry has a concealed weapons permit and says the gun has made her feel safer living alone. But she felt anything but safe when she heard a man yelling to open the door.”

Adam Kokesh Raided By “Storm Trooper” Cops

” Days after Adam Kokesh staged an open carry protest by loading a shotgun in Washington DC, “storm trooper” police raided the former Marine’s home last night, smashing in his door and deploying a flash bang grenade before arresting Kokesh.

According to a press release issued by Kokesh’s Adam vs the Man media team, “Numerous police vehicles, including a light armored vehicle and two low-flying helicopters barricaded Adam’s street. More than 20 armored SWAT team members surrounded the house, as well as a number of detectives, and plainclothes officers. Assault rifles were aimed on all members of the team as they were handcuffed without being told why they were detained. Masked and armored police in full “Storm Trooper” gear flooded in and ransacked the residence. The team was cordoned in a front room, while Adam was pulled aside for questioning.”

Roads around Kokesh’s home, which also contains his broadcast studio, were blocked off and other residents were told to stay indoors. The raid was conducted by Herndon police as well as US Parks Police, an arm of Homeland Security.”

” The image above shows that media trucks were in place to broadcast news of the raid almost instantly. “How nice of the police to tell the media before we got raided,” states Kokesh’s Facebook page.”

” This documentary exposes the blatant trampling of the Constitutional rights of Americans during white collar crime investigations by the Department of Justice and the Criminal Investigation Division of the Internal Revenue Service .

Our Protectors at Work

We are indeed living in the age of thuggery . While the crime rates continue to fall we are left to worry about the typo by an tired clerk or the false testimony of a petty crook trying to save his bacon . Thanks to the “War on Drugs” and government growth in general the police state is upon us . No knock raids , police departments nationwide arming themselves as if for war and the ever present threat of the president’s Kill List should provide ample proof of the authorities intentions .

Add to these most physical of threats the endless attempts on the State’s part to take over the internet , control our speech , taking over our freedom to choose regarding our healthcare , dictating what and how much we eat and you have the foundation being laid for an authoritarian regime far worse than the rule of King George III .

The fact that the court ultimately ruled against the DEA in this case is small consolation for the terror those innocent girls have been made to live with . And they are some of the lucky ones . At least they weren’t killed by mistake as has happened and continues to happen to innocent citizens regularly .

” The agents entered the 14-year-old girl’s room first, shouting “Get down on the fucking ground.” The girl, who was lying on her bed, rolled onto the floor, where the agents handcuffed her. Next they went to the 11-year-old’s room. The girl was sleeping. Agents woke her up by shouting “Get down on the fucking ground.” The girl’s eyes shot open, but she was, according to her own testimony, “frozen in fear.” So the agents dragged her onto the floor. While one agent handcuffed her, another held a gun to her head.

Moments later the two daughters were carried into the living room and placed next to their parents on the floor while DEA agents ransacked their home. After 30 minutes, the agents removed the children’s handcuffs. After two hours, the agents realized they had the wrong house—the product of a sloppy license plate transcription—and left. “
