One Boston Bombing Suspect Is Dead

” One of two suspects wanted in Monday’s deadly Boston marathon bombing was killed early Friday in a violent standoff with the police in a quiet residential neighborhood just west of Boston. The second suspect remained at large following what authorities described as a deadly crime spree that left one police officer dead and another seriously wounded.

A Watertown resident, Andrew Kitzenberg, 29, said he looked out his third-floor window to see two young men of slight build in jackets engaged in “constant gunfire” with police officers. A police SUV “drove towards the shooters,” he said, and was shot at until it was severely damaged. It rolled out of control, Mr. Kitzenberg said, and crashed into two cars in his driveway.

The two shooters, he said, had a large, unwieldy bomb that he said looked “like a pressure cooker.”

“They lit it, still in the middle of the gunfire, and threw it. But it went 20 yards at most.” It exploded, he said, and one of the two men ran toward the gathered police officers. He was tackled, but it was not clear if he was shot, Mr. Kitzenberg said.

Meanwhile, the other young man, said Mr. Kitzenberg, got back into the SUV, turned it toward officers and “put the pedal to the metal.” The car “went right through the cops, broke right through and continued west.” “

Man Dragged By South Africa Police Vehicle Dies In Detention

” Independent police investigators are looking into the claims after video footage emerged showing a man being dragged along a road behind a police van.

The man, a 27-year-old from Mozambique, was later found dead in a police cell in Daveyton, Johannesburg, on Tuesday.

Officers have claimed they put the taxi driver in a police van in order to take him to a police station on the East Rand, and cannot explain how he later died.

But the video, obtained by South Africa’s Daily Sun newspaper, shows officers struggling to overpower a man – believed to be the taxi driver – before attaching him to a point at the rear of their vehicle and then driving off leaving him hanging outside. Less..”

” Set against the backdrop of a national debate over gun control, a shooting early Tuesday in a Stone Oak-area subdivision that left one burglary suspect dead and another critically injured didn’t just spark talk about the incident itself but about the best way to keep from becoming a victim.

Life on Lightstone Drive had returned to normal Tuesday afternoon for the neighbors of Roger Bond Pemberton, who shot at the two men he believed were trying to take his SUV, police said.

The crime scene tape no longer blocked access to his neighbors’ homes. The detectives, evidence technicians and patrol officers all were long gone. But the 1:50 a.m. shooting still was the talk of the street.

“If it was a legitimate theft I support what he did,” neighbor Michelle Harms said.
