SWAT Team Sent To Lil Wayne’s Miami Home In Apparent Hoax

” A SWAT team arrived at Lil Wayne‘s Miami home Wednesday afternoon after reports of gunshots and injuries. But despite a scan of Wayne’s property, the team found no signs of foul play following the hour-plus search. Miami police representative Ernesto Rodriguez has confirmed that the event was a hoax.

Whether the hoax was a straightforward prank call or an intentional ploy to send over a SWAT team remains unclear. The practice is increasingly common between online gamers, but if this was an intentional “swatting,” Lil Wayne is the highest-profile celebrity to fall victim to the practice. “

New York’s Registry Of Mentally Ill People Barred From Having Firearms Draws Heavy Criticism

” A newly created database of New Yorkers deemed too mentally unstable to carry firearms has grown to roughly 34,500 names, a previously undisclosed figure that has raised concerns among some mental health advocates that too many people have been categorized as dangerous.

The database, established in the aftermath of the mass shooting in 2012 at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, and maintained by the state Division of Criminal Justice Services, is the result of the Safe Act. It is an expansive package of gun control measures pushed through by the administration of Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo. The law, better known for its ban on assault weapons, compels licensed mental health professionals in New York to report to the authorities any patient “likely to engage in conduct that would result in serious harm to self or others.

But the number of entries in the database highlights the difficulty of America’s complicated balancing act between public safety and the right to bear arms when it comes to people with mental health issues.

“ That seems extraordinarily high to me,” said Sam Tsemberis, a former director of New York City’s involuntary hospitalization program for homeless and dangerous people, now the chief executive of Pathways to Housing, which provides housing to the mentally ill. “Assumed dangerousness is a far cry from actual dangerousness.” “

Moms Demand SWATting

” You see a GunFilth waving its penis substitute, exit, call police. Armed robbery in progress.” So wrote Twitter user “Little Black Dog” on September 13 of this year.

The injunction was a particularly colorful one, but the idea behind it, alas, is not as uncommon as one might wish. “I see you #opencarry with a gun in public,” a man named “joe villa” threatened earlier this week, “i’m calling the cops. psycho behaving erratic. make your day.” A translation for the more literate among us: “The law be damned; exercise your rights under the law and I’ll threaten your life.”

“ Take a look through the comments threads on Moms Demand Action’s Facebook page,” Bearing Arms’s Bob Owens tells me, “and you’ll see a lot of this.” “Not,” he clarifies,

from the leaders of the group. But it is a mindset popular among the followers. On there, on the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence — ironically — and on GunFreeZone.net, you’ll notice commenters advocating that people call the police and exaggerate what is going on, hoping to get the cops to come in.

A cursory trawl through those sites reveals that Owens is correct in his assessment. The lion’s share of the commenters are innocuous and cordial — nothing more than law-abiding Americans participating in civil society. There are peaceful promises not to shop at Target or Kroger or Chili’s unless those businesses explicitly prohibit customers from bringing their firearms in with them; there are vehement-but-idle suggestions that anybody who wishes to carry a gun in public must have something seriously wrong with him; and there are the usual ignorant claims that shootings in America are on the increase (in fact, the opposite is true). But, every 20 comments or so, one sees exactly what Owens describes. Reacting to a photograph of a man standing at a checkout with a handgun holstered upon his hip, mom-who-demands-action Joyce Ward asks, “Why weren’t the police called immediately?” And “why,” Ward continues, “wasn’t he shot by the police for having a weapon”? ”

For those of you who may be unfamiliar with the term , SWATting is:

” Swatting is the tricking of any emergency service (via such means as hoaxing a 9-1-1 dispatcher) into dispatching an emergency response based on the false report of an on-going critical incident. Episodes range from large to small, from the deployment of bomb squads, SWAT units and other police units and the concurrent evacuations of schools and businesses to a single fabricated police report meant to discredit an individual as a prank or personal vendetta. While it is a misdemeanor or a felony in the USA in and of itself to report any untruth to law enforcement, swatting can cause massive disruption to the civil order and the public peace by the hoaxed deployment of police and other civic resources such as ambulances and fire departments. The term derives from SWAT (Special Weapons and Tactics), a highly specialized type of police unit.”

We guess that the irony of those who demand an end to gun violence calling on police to gun down law-abiding citizens is lost on these cretinous trolls . Read Charles Cooke’s entire piece at NRO

Reported Shooting A Hoax By Online Gamer

Long Beach SWAT Raid

” The action became very real for a 17-year-old Long Beach resident who was playing the video game Call of Duty on Tuesday, after a bitter online opponent called police and falsely claimed that the teen had fatally shot his mother and brother in his Laurelton Boulevard home.

Long Beach Police Commissioner Michael Tangney said that the teenager had just won a round of the popular online multi-player shooter game. But when a losing rival claiming to be the teen called police to report the bogus incident, it prompted a massive responseincluding a fully armed Nassau County SWAT team with an armored vehicle and a helicopter unit — to what was initially believed to be a multiple shooting and hostage situation.

Tangney said that when police arrived at the house at around 3 p.m., 17-year-old Long Beach High School student Rafael Castillo was still playing the game on Xbox while wearing a headset and had no idea what was happening outside.”

It was one mighty expensive hoax phone call …

” “He was quite stunned — he was very shaken up by it,” Tangney said, adding that the police response could cost roughly $100,000.

More than 50 county, Long Beach and MTA police officers, and firefighters responded to the home. Nearby streets were blocked off as numerous police vehicles rushed to scene. The standoff lasted more than an hour and attracted crowds of onlookers who milled about, saying that they learned about the incident on social media.”

Brett Kimberlin’s Stalkerish Behavior Towards Aaron Walker and His Wife

” Several days ago, the Web site “Breitbart Unmasked” published pictures of Aaron Walker and his wife taken outside a Maryland courthouse. I have blurred out the faces from the photographs, but want to otherwise reproduce them here for you:

Pictures at the link

The site attributed the grainy, stalkerish photos to a “witness” that the site refused to name.

Today, Aaron Walker names the “witness”: Brett Kimberlin.

In a post that describes an apparent escalation of Kimberlin’s obsessive behavior towards Aaron and his wife, Aaron describes how Kimberlin has shown up twice at a courthouse at times when Aaron was there.

The first time, Aaron says, Kimberlin took pictures or video footage of Aaron’s wife while she was waiting in the car outside the courthouse. Aaron had seen Kimberlin inside the courthouse and asked his wife to wait in the car, where he thought she would be safer. But Kimberlin slipped outside without Aaron noticing. According to Aaron’s post, Kimberlin parked his car behind Aaron’s, circled the car, saw Aaron’s wife, pulled his car around to face her, and took footage or pictures of her as she sat inside the car. Aaron says Kimberlin smiled as he did this, which is extraordinarily creepy.”

SWATting

“85 MEMBERS OF CONGRESS DEMAND HOLDER INVESTIGATE SWATTING CASES

The Honorable Eric Holder
U.S. Attorney General
U.S. Department of Justice
950 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, Suite 5111
Washington, D.C. 20530-0009

Dear Attorney General Holder:

We write you concerning the growing threat of “SWAT-ting” and its costly ramifications. These crimes occur when individuals call emergency dispatchers under the guise of another person’s name with fraudulent claims, causing local law enforcement to swarm the home of innocent Americans. SWAT-ting first arose in 2002, but as technology and the Internet has expanded, the dangers of SWAT-ting are also on the rise.”

Check the list for your congressman . Note there is not a Dem to be seen . So much for the Left’s live of “free speech “

Rumor Confirmed

Breitbart confirms John Hawkins’ Tweet of last evening

“Later, on his own radio show, Erickson played a recording of the 911 call that triggered the visit from law enforcement to his home.  He went on to describe the series of events that occurred on the evening of May 27th.  As he discussed the recent letters sent by Georgia Senator Saxby Chambliss and Texas Congressman Kenny Marchant calling on the Department of Justice to investigate the SWATting incidents, Erickson announced a breaking development regarding Congressional actions:

I have been told that Monday, the House of Representatives will engage on this and seventy or more members will formally be sending a letter to Eric Holder, asking him on behalf of these members of the house to also get the FBI involved.”

Rumor Mongering

Can’t give any details yet, but @RepKenMarchant and@SaxbyChambliss are soon going to have A LOT of company. Remember where you heard that.

A link filled history of the Kimberlin affair from Stacy McCain

Be sure and read it all for a complete understanding of what is going on .

“Somewhere between the time in October 2010 he threatened to sue Patrick Frey and the decision last week to make a similar threat
toward Ali Akbar, Brett Kimberlin crossed a Rubicon of desperation and burned the bridge behind him. In the past three weeks, Kimberlin
and his allies have escalated their deceitful war against conservative bloggers to the point that it
cannot be ignored, and must now be fought to a conclusion with the entire political world watching. “

Finally , some official notice of the despicable act of SWATting . Not that I would expect Holder and his brown shirts to do anything , but the exposure is welcome .

WASHINGTON –
“Today, U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss, R-Ga., sent a letter to Attorney
General Eric Holder regarding recent reports that several conservative political
commentators have been targeted with harassing and frightening actions.
Chambliss demanded that Holder examine these cases to determine if federal laws have been violated. “

American Power is all over Brett Kimberlin and has advanced the notion that Brett’s Charitable corp . may not be all that it seems .

HT/Instapundit

Update : Earlier Today I posted about the Brett Kimberlin story “Gaining Traction” . Now it seems that Fox News has broadcast on the SWATtings of Erick Erickson and Patterico .

The SWATting Continues

Erick Erickson of RedState becomes the latest SWATting victim of the Left’s ( Brett Kimberlin ) campaign of intimidation .

“Last week I wrote about the Speedway Bomber and current left-wing activist Brett Kimberlin. In 2011, after writing about Kimberlin, LA County Prosecutor Patrick Frey was rousted out of bed after midnight by the LA County SWAT Team. Someone had called 911 claiming to be Frey saying he’d just murdered his wife.

Sunday night as my family and sister’s family were around the dinner table and playing outside, sheriff’s deputies pulled into my driveway responding to an accidental shooting at my home.

One deputy was in the driveway. Another blocked the end of the driveway with his car. A neighbor tells me another was up the hill from the house.

There was no shooting at my home. Someone called 911, claimed to be at my home, and claimed to witness a shooting at my home “

From Michelle Malkin :

“Remember what I wrote on Wednesday and what more than 150 blogs and thousands of Twitter activists united behind on Friday?

This is literally a matter of life and death, freedom vs. terrorism. We side with life and freedom.

The massive blogburst about convicted bomber and online terrorist ringleader Brett Kimberlin ended on Friday, but this is an ongoing legal, financial, and emotional morass for the targets. And it has now entangled new victims. It is precisely because each and every blogger, Twitter users, activist, talk show host, and podcaster is potential new prey for sicko Kimberlin and his cabal that we must all stand together.

And it is imperative that we turn awareness-raising into action.

1. Tweet @CNN and ask if the cable news network will be covering the reported SWATting of RedState blogger and CNN contributor Erick Erickson today in the aftermath of the Everyone Blog About Brett Kimberlinevent. For more on how Erickson and his family were subjected to the same terror tactic used against blogger Patterico, who exposed his plight on Friday on his blog and on the Glenn Beck show, see hereherehere, here, and Twitchy round-up here.”
