Afghan Civilian Deaths Hit Record High

This graphic only covers the first 6 months of 2014

” Last year was the deadliest on record for civilians in Afghanistan, the UN said in a report on Wednesday, with more civilians killed in 2014 than since the agency began compiling figures in 2009. While Nato has ended its combat mission, and Barack Obama has declared that America’s longest war is ending responsibly, fighting in the country is intensifying.

“ In communities across Afghanistan, increased ground fighting among parties to the conflict and more IED attacks exacted a heavy toll on Afghan civilians,” said the top UN envoy, Nicholas Haysom.

The report (pdf) documented 3,699 civilian deaths in 2014, the highest death toll since the UN began keeping systematic record in 2009. Another 6,849 people were injured, bringing the number of civilian casualties to 10,548, a 22% jump from last year. The total civilian death toll after more than a decade of war is now almost 18,000.

Children were the hardest hit: 714 were killed and 1,760 wounded, an increase in of 40% on 2013. In addition, 298 women were killed and 611 injured. “

Platoon Knows The Truth About His Desertion. The Public Should Know As Well.

” On June 30, 2009, in Mest Malak, Afghanistan, Bowe Bergdahl left his unit and deserted the U.S. Army. We know he deserted because we were there when he did it.

We are confident that the overdue report from political and military leaders on Bergdahl’s actions, sitting on a general’s desk since October, comes to the same conclusion. It has to because the facts are clear.

Whatever the reason is for the late report and confused reporting about whether Bergdahl is set to be charged with desertion, justice is being denied to those of us who were abandoned by a fellow soldier.

The White House ceremony in May to announce the exchange of five senior Taliban detainees from the Guantanamo Bay prison for our former platoon member sparked a national debate on a variety of controversial issues: executive power, mental health care, the War on Terror, prisoners of war, due process and legal justice. It is troubling to us that President Obama and his political team are silencing this needed public debate by not making the release of this report a priority.”

World’s Deadliest Sniper: Royal Marine Has 173 Confirmed Kills

” The world’s deadliest military sniper is a Royal Marine with 173 confirmed kills, including 90 members of the Taliban in just one day, it has been reported.

The Briton, who has not been named, had served in the Royal Navy’s elite unit for more than a decade and recorded most of his kills during a six-month tour of Afghanistan in 2006/7, having also served in Iraq.

The figure puts the corporal, reportedly married with two children and from southern England, ahead of US Navy SEAL commando Chris Kyle, who had 160 confirmed kills to make him the most lethal US sniper.

Kyle’s exploits are the subject of a new film called American Sniper, starring Bradley Cooper.

According to The Sun, the British sniper is said to have hit 90 Taliban fighters in a stronghold in just one day. It is thought his total number of ‘kills’ could be even higher than 173 if unconfirmed strikes were taken into account.

A source told The Sun: ‘He is not interested in scores or kill counts. He took no satisfaction in the job he had to do.

‘ Because he saw the enemy as humans he has not struggled emotionally or psychologically with what has happened.

‘ He had a unique job at a unique time. He must be the most lethal sniper in the world. But that is not a title he would seek out or revel in.’ “

While both Kyle and the unnamed Royal Marine are/were extremely good at their jobs , no one can surpass the king of all snipers , “The White Death” , Finnish soldier Simo Hayha , who logged over 500 kills during the “Winter War” against the Soviet Union in WW II .

Bergdahl 5-for-1 Deal Stunk From The Git-Go!

Published on Jan 31, 2015
” Judge Jeanine Pirro reprises the astonishing Bergdahl 5-for-1 swap that released 5 top-level radical Islamists for one alleged deserter. In three months the radicals will be freed entirely, and one has already been making contact with his radical buddies.

In the meantime, Obama spokespersons are desperately defending the indefensible with word games about picayune differences between “terrorists” and “armed insurgents”. “

Detainee Swapped For Bergdahl Suspected Of Militant Activities

” The U.S. military and intelligence community now suspect that one of the five Taliban detainees released from Guantanamo Bay in return for Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl in May of last year has attempted to return to militant activity from his current location in Qatar by making contact with suspected Taliban associates in Afghanistan, multiple officials tell CNN.

The development has led to an ongoing debate inside the administration about whether there is a new threat from this man, and potentially the other four.

This is the first known suggestion that any of the detainees involved in the exchange may be trying to engage again in militant activity. It comes at a politically sensitive time as the administration has quickened the pace of prisoner release in an effort to encourage the closure of the Guantanamo, and the Army must decide in the coming weeks whether and how to punish Bergdahl for leaving his post .

Several U.S. officials across different agencies and branches of the U.S. government have confirmed key details to CNN. The White House referred CNN to the Pentagon. (Typical buck passing)

The officials would not say which of the five men is suspected. But an ongoing U.S. intelligence program to secretly intercept and monitor all of their communications in Qatar turned up evidence in recent months that one of them has “reached out” to try to encourage militant activity, one official said. The official would offer no further details.”

‘Bird Bomb’ Explodes When It’s Shot By Afghanistan Police

” Why did the brown and white bird walk down the road? Apparently to blow somebody up. That’s what Afghanistan police surmised when they spotted the large, non-native bird walking along a highway with an antenna, explosives and an electronic device strapped to its body.

When police shot the bird, it exploded, scattering “suspicious metal stuff,” provincial police chief Maj. Gen. Abdul Nabi Ilham told NBC News.

Police are still examining the various remains, but have identified what appears to be a GPS device and a small camera. The bird was first spotted close to a police checkpoint in Faryab province in the north where the Taliban are active.

Investigators speculated that the bird may have been “deployed” on a surveillance mission.

It’s the first time ever security forces have encountered such a “bird bomb,” though Hamas militants rigged a donkey with explosives and set it on a path heading toward Israeli soldiers during fighting in Gaza last summer. No humans were injured, but the donkey exploded. “

GAO: Pentagon Broke Law In Bergdahl Case

” The Defense Department violated the law when it didn’t tell Congress before transferring five Taliban detainees from Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, to Qatar in return for the Taliban’s release of captured Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, the Government Accountability Office said in a legal decision made public Thursday.

Pentagon officials “did not notify the relevant congressional committees at least 30 days in advance of the transfer,” as required by law, GAO General Counsel Susan A. Poling said in a letter to nine Republican senators who had sought the analysis.

What’s more, Poling said, “because DOD used appropriated funds to carry out the transfer when no money was available for that purpose, DOD violated the Antideficiency Act,” which “prohibits federal agencies from incurring obligations exceeding an amount available in an appropriation.”

The GAO ruling provides legal backing for the position that the administration flouted the notification requirement — a view held by most Republicans and more than a few Democrats. The GAO does not address other issues that many lawmakers have raised about the merits of the exchange. “

Taliban Want To Kill Afghan Who Saved “Lone Survivor” Marcus Luttrell

” The movie “Lone Survivor” just came out on DVD two weeks ago and its blockbuster status continues. For those of you who’ve been living under a rock, it’s the story of Operation Red Wings in Afghanistan. In 2005, a four-man U.S. Navy SEAL recon team had its mission compromised by Afghan goat herders who, when released, informed the Taliban of their location. The four team members, Michael Murphy, Danny Deitz, Matt Axelson, and Marcus Luttrell fought valiantly but three of the four were killed, leaving Luttrell as the “lone survivor.”

Luttrell survived only because of a centuries-old tribal code of honor called “Pashtunwali” which mandates Pashtuns afford protection to anyone in need. And so it was that Luttrell was found by a Pashtun village leader by the name of Mohammad Gulab and taken in – risking his own life in doing so.

Gulab considered it his sacred duty under that tribal code and when the Taliban came to demand that he hand over Luttrell, Gulab refused. The Taliban persisted, alternating between promises of money and threats to murder him and the rest of the village. None of it changed Gulab’s mind. He and his neighbors remained steadfast.

However, in a twist of fate, it seems Gulab is now the “lone survivor.” “

We’ve witnessed this scene played out time and time again , from the Kurds in 1991 to the Pakistanis that turned in Osama and AQ Khan to the Iraqi judge that convicted Saddam and now Muhammad Gulab . Throw in the Poles , Czechs and missile defense  , the Montagnards in Viet Nam , the Cubans at The Bay Of Pigs and a host of other examples and it doesn’t pay to help Uncle Sam unless you harbor a death wish .

The Bodies Keep Piling Up: From Kenya To Iraq Shocking New Images Show How A Wave Of Islamist Carnage Has Signaled A New Era Of Barbaric Terror Across The World

” Somali militants have shot dead at least 48 people after attacking two hotels and a police station in a small Kenyan coastal town hall as locals were watching the World Cup.

The attack in Mpeketoni, which is about 30-miles southwest of the tourist centre of Lamu, came at the end of a weekend of bloodshed that has exposed the world to the shocking depravity of terrorists who appear emboldened by each other’s acts.

Taliban: We Found Bergdahl Alone, Cursing Americans

” The Taliban were just as confused by Bowe Bergdahl as the Afghan villagers who first encountered him after he allegedly wandered off his base, two former commanders say. Fighters rushed to capture Bergdahl after villagers informed them of his presence, and he was found walking alone, acting strangely, and cursing his fellow Americans, one commander tells NBC. He said “he wasn’t happy with his countrymen, but he didn’t intend to convert to Islam” or become a jihadi, the commander says. Both say that they at first believed it was some kind of trick, and they wondered how and why he had left the base alone—which he may have done more than once. They say he described his departure as a “personal issue.” “

Col. David Hunt: US Lost 14 SOLDIERS Searching For Deserter Bowe Bergdahl

Colonel David Hunt told Bill O’Reilly tonight that Bowe Bergdahl was a deserter.

“ Bowe Bergdahl was a deserter. Bergdahl on June 20, 2009 crawled underneath a wire at his fire base with water, food, a change of clothes, a knife and a cell phone. He called his unit the day after he deserted to tell his unit he deserted… Bill, we lost 14 soldiers, killed, searching for a deserter. He left his unit in combat. It’s non-arguable… We don’t know yet if he joined the Taliban or not. But, there’s no question he deserted.”

Objective Military Assessment: Bowe Bergdahl Case

” I am writing this because last night I heard Fox News’ Harris Faulkner refer to Army SGT Bowe Bergdahl as a local hero. I just listened to Bergdahl’s father refer to his son’s character.

So, we must have a discussion of the truth here. Army SGT Bergdahl was not “captured” by the enemy in 2009. He abandoned his assigned post on his Forward Operating Base (FOB), leaving his weapon. Several U.S. Army Soldiers lost their lives in search for Bergdahl. His disappearance can only be classified as desertion and the media must not be so giddy about a good news story that they don’t tell the truth — which is apparent to many. The allegation of desertion is serious. It is grave because it occurred during a war, during combat operations.”

” The U.S. Army must uphold proper order and discipline and this allegation must be investigated — but the truth is already known. I believe the liberal media will attempt to elevate him to some type of status that will cause the Army not to pursue the right direction under the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ). We who have served in Iraq, Afghanistan, and other combat areas of operation against radical Islamists know they don’t hold our troops — they are savagely and brutally murdered. They exist to kill Americans.

Are we glad that Bergdahl is home? After five years, yes, but there are many unanswered questions that cannot be dismissed because of emotions.”

Bergdahl Release Arrangement Could Threaten The Safety Of Americans, Republicans Say

” Amid jubilation Saturday over the release of U.S. Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl from captivity by the Taliban, senior Republicans on Capitol Hill said they were troubled by the means by which it was accomplished, which was a deal to release five Afghan detainees from the military prison in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

Top Republicans on the Senate and House armed services committees went so far as to accuse President Obama of having broken the law, which requires the administration to notify Congress before any transfers from Guantanamo are carried out.

“ Trading five senior Taliban leaders from detention in Guantanamo Bay for Bergdahl’s release may have consequences for the rest of our forces and all Americans. Our terrorist adversaries now have a strong incentive to capture Americans. That incentive will put our forces in Afghanistan and around the world at even greater risk,” House Armed Services Committee Chairman Howard P. McKeon (R-Calif.) and the ranking Republican on the Senate Armed Services Committee, James M. Inhofe (Okla.), said in a joint statement.

Lawmakers were not notified of the Guantanamo detainees’ transfer until after it occurred.

The law requires the defense secretary to notify relevant congressional committees at least 30 days before making any transfers of prisoners, to explain the reason and to provide assurances that those released would not be in a position to reengage in activities that could threaten the United States or its interests.”

Bowe Bergdahl, American Soldier, Freed By Taliban In Prisoner Trade

” The lone American prisoner of war from the Afghan conflict, captured by insurgents nearly five years ago, has been released to American forces in exchange for five Taliban prisoners held at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, Obama administration officials said Saturday.”

The soldier, Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, 28, was handed over to American Special Operations troops inside Afghanistan near the Pakistan border about 10:30 a.m. Saturday in a tense but uneventful exchange with 18 Taliban officials, American officials said. Moments later, Sergeant Bergdahl was whisked away by the helicopter-borne commandos, American officials said. He was found in good condition and able to walk.”

” The five Taliban detainees at Guantánamo, including two senior militant commanders said to be implicated in murdering thousands of Shiites in Afghanistan, were being transferred to the custody of officials from Qatar, who will accompany them back to that Persian Gulf state, where they will be subject to security restrictions, including a one-year travel ban.”

As happy as we are that Sgt Bergdahl is coming home , the precedent set by releasing Gitmo prisoners and in effect negotiating with terrorists , in a break from long-standing US policy , bodes ill for all soldiers in the future .

This will no doubt be a much needed shot in the arm for our beleaguered “commander-in-chief” but may very well open the flood-gates to the kidnapping of American GI’s and thus will be viewed by our enemies as just another sign of weakness , especially after last week’s announcement of the impending 2016 troop withdrawal

From the Taliban point of view they must believe , rightfully so , that they have the US on the ropes and all the insurgents need do is sit tight for a few more months and victory will be theirs .

Fewer Americans Think Obama Respected On World Stage

Trend: Americans' Perceptions of President Obama's World Standing

” For the first time, more Americans think President Barack Obama is not respected by other world leaders than believe he is. Americans’ opinions have shifted dramatically in the past year, after being relatively stable from 2010 to 2013.

The results are based on Gallup’s annual World Affairs poll, conducted Feb. 6-9. Although opinions about a president’s perceived world standing often track with his job approval rating, a majority of Americans still thought world leaders respected Obama in 2010 and 2011, when his job approval was similar to what it is now. Thus, the recent decline may be more tied to specific international matters from the past year, such as the revelation the U.S. was listening in on foreign leaders’ phone calls, the situation in Syria, increased tensions with Russia, and an uneasy relationship between Obama and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.”

All we can say is “What took so long?” The MSM has lost it’s mojo and can no longer keep the present administration’s incompetence under wraps . It’s about effing time . People are finally starting to pay attention . Too bad he gets another three years to continue the destruction of America .

Onboard Footage Of An RAF Drone Unleashing Hell On Taliban

Drone's Eye View

” RAF Pilot Unleashes Hell on Taliban From The Comfort in Lincolnshire First Glimpse Inside Drone HQ

Sitting before a bank of flickering computer screens and controls, the RAF pilot flies a drone in the skies above Afghanistan.

But the airman is not operating the £10million Reaper unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) from the warzone — or even the US.

Instead, he is 8,000 miles away in a hi-tech control hub in a remote part of East Anglia — poised to order the controversial robot to carry out airstrikes using its fearsome array of Hellfire missiles and laser-guided bombs.”

Shades Of Vietnam: Spike In U.S. Troop Deaths Tied To Stricter Rules Of Engagement

” The number of U.S. battlefield fatalities exceeded the rate at which troop strength surged in 2009 and 2010, prompting national security analysts to assert that coinciding stricter rules of engagement led to more deaths.

A connection between the sharp increase in American deaths and restrictive rules of engagement is difficult to confirm. More deaths surely stemmed from ramped-up counterterrorism raids and the Taliban’s response with more homemade bombs, the No. 1 killer of NATO forces in Afghanistan.

But it is clear that the rules of engagement, which restrain troops from firing in order to spare civilian casualties, cut back on airstrikes and artillery strikes — the types of support that protect troops during raids and ambushes.

In Afghanistan, the [rules of engagement] that were put in place in 2009 and 2010 have created hesitation and confusion for our war fighters,” said Wayne Simmons, a retired U.S. intelligence officer who worked in NATO headquarters in Kabul as the rules took effect, first under Army Gen. Stanley M. McChrystal, then Army Gen. David H. Petraeus.

It is no accident nor a coincidence that from January 2009 to August of 2010, coinciding with the Obama/McChrystal radical change of the [rules of engagement], casualties more than doubled,” Mr. Simmons said. “The carnage will certainly continue as the already fragile and ineffective [rules] have been further weakened by the Obama administration as if they were playground rules.” “

The two graphs below offer a stark picture of the Obama administration’s record in Afghanistan . While President “Peace Prize” immediately instituted a troop surge and over the course of his first two years in office more than doubled the amount of boots on the ground , he simultaneously tied the troops hands with prohibitive rules of engagement thus insuring a huge increase in troop deaths

It’s the same old Democratic story that we witnessed with the Clinton presidency … the desire to seem tough and responsive in the defense of our country without taking the political risk of losing troops . Think Mogadishu ROE and the cruise missile strikes against aspirin factories in Sudan and empty mountaintops in Afghanistan .

After doubling the troop deployment from 2008 to 2010 and then instituting the very restrictive ROE for the coalition troops it is no wonder that troop fatalities rose dramatically .

The above graph shows that while US troop deaths are finally declining that is more a result of less aggressive soldiering and less patrolling than it is due to more effective rules of engagement .

While the Obama administration makes a great showing of being sensitive to “collateral damage” in Afghanistan as a reason for the more dangerous , to our troops anyway , rules of engagement it shows no such concern for the deaths of innocents when it comes to the use of drones to do it’s killing

While increasing amounts of American soldiers were dying in order to spare the lives of non-combatants in Afghanistan Obama had no problem with the killing in indiscriminate fashion of civilians across Africa and the near east through it’s use of drones as the below table ably demonstrates .

Peace loving” Obama has taken the strikes and targeted killings to astronomical heights as compared to that “war mongering” ex-president Bush killing nearly five times as many victims in less time .

US Marine Generals Removed Over Taliban Attack

” In a rare move, the highest-ranking Marine forced two generals into retirement Monday after concluding they should be held to account for failing to secure a base in Afghanistan against a Taliban attack that killed two U.S. soldiers.

Gen. James Amos, the commandant of the Marine Corps, said in announcing his decision that Maj. Gen. Charles M. Gurganus and Maj. Gen. Gregg A. Sturdevant “did not take adequate force protection measures” at Camp Bastion, an airfield in southwestern Afghanistan that was the Taliban target.

The Sept. 14, 2012 attack caught the Marines by surprise and resulted in the deaths of Lt. Col. Christopher K. Raible and Sgt. Bradley W. Atwell. Six Marine Harrier fighter jets were destroyed by the attackers and others were badly damaged.”

US Drone Strikes Guided From Outback

Former personnel at the Australian-American base have described the facility’s success in locating and tracking al-Qaeda and Taliban leaders – and other insurgent activity in Afghanistan and Pakistan – as ”outstanding”.

A Fairfax Media investigation has now confirmed a primary function of the top-secret signals intelligence base near Alice Springs is to track the precise ”geolocation” of radio signals, including those of hand-held radios and mobile phones, in the eastern hemisphere, from the Middle East across Asia to China, North Korea and the Russian far east.”

The offer follows this week’s official opening of a Taliban political office in Doha, the capital of the Gulf state of Qatar.

The only known American soldier held captive from the Afghan war is U.S. Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl of Hailey, Idaho. He disappeared from his base in southeastern Afghanistan on June 30, 2009, and is believed held in Pakistan.”

Taliban Behead Boy, 10, And His Friend, 16, ‘For Spying’ After Catching Them Scavenging For Food For Their Families

” The Taliban was accused of beheading two boys for spying in southern Afghanistan yesterday. (M) Afghan officials said the boys, aged 10 and 16, were kidnapped by Taliban fighters while scavenging for food in rubbish bins near the police headquarters in Kandahar, Afghanistan’s second largest city and a key base for Western forces.

News first emerged of the 10-year-old’s death and later yesterday the Kandahar provincial government office confirmed that a second boy had also been beheaded. Both bodies were recovered in Kandahar’s Zhari district.

Kandahar governor Dr Toryalay Wessa instructed Afghan security forces and police to hunt down and catch the militants responsible for the killing ‘with whatever casualties it takes and at whatever price.’ In 2012 the Taliban were accused of beheading a 12-year-old boy and a seven-year-old girl in south and east Afghanistan – the group denied responsibility in both those cases.”

After Nidal Hasan Admitted Helping The Taliban, Can We Treat The Fort Hood Massacre As A Terrorist Attack?

” Hasan’s defense now makes it clear that this is how he considers his actions. Despite the best attempts to cover up his actions, he stated in open court that he had acted to aid the Taliban.

The judge read from his request for a continuance, seeking to confirm Hasan’s defense: that he acted “because death or grievous harm was about to be inflicted on the members of the Taliban and Mullah [Mohammed] Omar specifically by the people against whom you used deadly force.”

“That is correct,” Hasan said.

There is no longer any dispute about Hasan’s motives or affiliations. He was acting to aid the Taliban after corresponding with an Al Qaeda leader.”

When do we cease this charade that is “political correctness” and start acknowledging the truth ? This cult of multiculturalism gets exposed for the fraud that it is at every turn by the perpetrator’s own words and yet we are to believe that religion has nothing to do with it … they are “disturbed individuals” , “disenfranchised youth” or “enraged employees” but never terrorists .

At what point to we recognize the cultural and societal mass suicide that is the Left’s moral relativism and realize that the proponents of radical Islam will stop at  nothing to achieve their plainly stated goal of a world-wide Caliphate ?

Afghan Benghazi: Extortion 17, Betraying Seal Team 6

Extortion 17 - Remember Our Brothers

” As in Benghazi, we still don’t know the full story of the greatest single loss in Afghanistan and the largest SEAL loss ever — members of a renowned group outed by a loose-lipped vice president.

It’s not officially on the growing list of Obama administration scandals, but earlier this month families of Navy SEAL Team 6 members killed in a disastrous August 2011 shoot-down of a Chinook helicopter in Afghanistan gathered at the National Press Club asking for answers, calling for a congressional investigation and blaming their government for the tragedy, the indifference and the secrecy that followed.

Extortion 17 was the call sign of a special operations mission in Afghanistan on Aug. 6, 2011, that responded to an Army Ranger unit engaged in a firefight with the Taliban and in need of backup.

The Chinook helicopter carrying the rescue team was shot down by a Taliban-owned rocket-propelled grenade over the Wardak Province on Aug. 6, 2011, killing 38, including 30 Americans and 15 members of Navy SEAL Team 6, the unit that killed Osama bin Laden just three months prior.

The shoot-down was described at the time as a “lucky shot,” but the families of the dead SEALs believe that, like Benghazi, it was a pre-planned operation of revenge facilitated by a government that put them in harm’s way without adequate support and with a bull’s-eye painted on their backs.”

” The 31 Americans were not the only ones that died as heroes that day. We cannot forget the sacrifice of our Afghan comrades. Seven Afghan commandos and one Afghan interpreter were also killed in action and we cannot look past their sacrifice. They too are heroes and we thank them and honor them and their families.”
